Look at the images of these crabs. DISGUSTING!! I called in notifying a worker at this location that I just purchased the crabs but they are absolutely rotten. The worker informs me that she spoke with her manager and all I need to do is take a picture. I get there with my original receipt and the picture and look for the manager. As soon as the manager meets me she is yelling at me saying, "NO PICTURE! bring the items!" So I inform her and tell her that the worker said she only needed images. The manager was very adamant about bringing the rotten crabs. I go back and bring it back and once they saw the absolute horror, would they refund me. My question is, why is the worker telling me she spoke to her manager and only needed a picture. But once I arrive, now it's bring the item? AND WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME??? I came here as part of the Dragon Boat Festival celebration. It was an interesting contrast. All the workers giving out the samples and promotions were quite nice. They were informative, answered questions and patient. Contrast that to the workers inside. I had multiple staff telling me various things that did not make sense. The most annoying was that I was not supposed to use the rolling basket carts. I tried to explain to them that I would return the cart after using it but they would not listen, saying I shoild take a shopping cart instead. Well, this isn't the first grocery store with a similar rule but def9nitely the first to go out of their way to inconvenience me and refuse to listen. I have to say that this soured what was a completely positive experience otherwise. My guess is that they put all the friendly and helpful staff in the samples and celebration areas. I come here to always get some affordable sushi! I love it so much I cannot stress it enough. So easy to just grab and go right? I take it to work or if I'm going on a little trip but I don't wanna cook the night prior or meal prep a full week in advance. The service here though in the separate cafe they have is awful. I paid for my sushi and I go in line again cause I wanted a few hot dog buns they had available in their café I believe. While I'm in line again I asked this much older woman if they have any chop sticks she literally screams at me and says "NO HAVE." Meanwhile I took note that they have a plentiful amount right behind her, I don't know what her name is but she looked a bit important. She had a blue samue on which looked a bit different from everyone else's uniform in that Cafe. It was super upsetting. I looked forward to eating a nice meal on the go and get yelled at for asking for some chopsticks. I'm not saying don't go! Haven't been here in a while. Lobby looks so different. Big planters gone. So spacious and clean. Used restrooms and it's a lot cleaner compared to what it use to be. Market itself is one my favorite place to shop. Pretty much everything you would need is here. Fresh vegetables, fruits, poultry, meat, and seafood even live ones. Got a Hawaiian papaya. A little pricey for a tiny fruit but I know flavor is the best in its variety. Competitive price and I would say you get what you paid for. Place even have cooked food fast food style and bakery too. Service is nothing special but you'll get what you need. Got Hainan chicken box. Chicken cold dish style but good and even better with sauce (can't figure out what's in it?). Liked the pickled radish/carrot that came with it. Will surely try BBQ pork and tofu next time. read more

This place isn't the same as the other 99 ranch markets I've been to. It's new and has several other store inside (not just its outer surroundings like an indoor mall). Upon entering, you can smell the fish and meat market right away, and then a mask of freshly baked goods near the entrance (which you have to pay at the cashier first THEN you can pick some up from the stall). We walked starting left to right, they had lots of sample stations out, mostly noodles and dumplings. The staff are very nice, they will give you freebies and advice on how to cook them properly or make it better for your taste. Their selection of goods are very diverse, they do seem bigger once you stroll a bit more. The key differences are the bbq station with roasted ducks. I have seen some 99 ranch markets with to go food stations but not roasted ducks. They still have the usual bakery, but this one also had a sushi station to buy boxed freshly made sushi rolls. After walking a bit more, the issue I had was the cashier lines, it's pretty much all across the entrance but the long lines can also block incoming and passing by customers. This market has virtually no customer service. They never bag your purchases after checkout, which is a pretty basic expectation these days. To make matters worse, security guards are often seen smoking and tossing cigarette butts right in front of the main entrance, which leaves a poor first impression. With so many competitors--like Weee, Yami, H Mart, etc etc. (Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's etc etc ) --you'd think they would step it up. Atleast these places, items are bagged for you or even delivered to your door. Unfortunately, this level of service falls short, and I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

I went here on a normal weekday around the lunch hour. They seemed well stocked and the seafood looked fresh with tons available. I soon learned why so much was available. There was at least 7-10 people waiting in line for their seafood number to be called for service. But only one extremely slow Hispanic guy behind the counter. Meanwhile, I see at least 2-3 Asian manager ladies walking around like they own the place and do nothing about the situation. They even pass by all the people waiting with no care. As an operations leader, this a a terrible combination of poor hires and poor management. I slowly see people leaving because of the poor service and easily observe a loss of ten sales every 10 minutes of expensive live seafood. Now I understand why there is so much iced unalive seafood left over. Absolutely zero awareness of management handling live seafood service. I'm sad on the revenue loss and waste of food because it's so easy to fix. Pretty good. This supermarket looks a lot bigger on the outside than it is on the inside. They have a lot of items, but not the specific ones we were looking for which was a disappointment. There are also a couple of shops one the sides before you get to the actual market which is fun. We also noticed that the workers were all pretty old and didn't speak English which made it difficult to ask for help. 3/23/24 Not my favorite 99 Ranch branch. Maybe my very least one. At first I thought, hey, this looks organized & neat but as I went further, it's not worth the visit. Maybe I was immediately put off when I went to the meat dept to get some meats sliced. It's about 2 pm snd the staff told me, "no more slicing". No apologies, no reason, just "no more slicing". It's the main reason I visited this store. I would understand if it was near closing time but, really? It's 2 pm!!! My daughters and I happened to be in the Rowland Heights (RH) area for lunch and dessert last weekend. We're normally not out in this area... we mostly go to the San Gabriel Valley area like Rosemead, San Gabriel, Alhambra, Monterey Park. Anyway, my daughters wanted BBQ pork so we headed over to 99 Ranch Market on Nogales Street. I think BBQ pork came out to be $17+ (a tad pricey compared to 888 BBQ deli in Rosemead)... don't remember how many lbs, but it couldn't have been more than 2 lbs by the looks of it. Also picked up some Chinese sausages $6.99 each (NUTS!, but we still bought them... maybe we're nuts LOL... gotta support the food industry... so we may be okay after all! LOL). We use it in a simple dish called lap cheong fan (English spelling of the Cantonese words per Google). Just the sausage and white rice... it's really good! This 99 Ranch is pretty clean. Staff is usually okay... not the most smiliest, but that's pretty normal... like the infamous quote, "It's not personal, it's strictly business." LOL. I remember the fountain area being filled with water, the kiosks that had all these toys and neat trinkets, and those machines where you could buy those bootleg sticker Yu-Gi-Oh! and Poke'mon cards. I also remember before all of this, ages ago, there would be sample festivals here. Good, fun stuff. This review is for my trip during the pandemic. Although many of the stores have been closed within the establishment, the market itself is nicely stocked, clean, brightly lit and welcoming. Carts were already sanitized, ready, and lined up for customers while entering and sanitizer is available at the entrance into the market. Lots of the produce has been pre-packaged in bags. Speeds up the weighing, sorting, and selecting process and also I assume it'd be more clean doing it this way. Liked the little deli and bakery section inside the market. Got some mango roll cake for $3 and they had several milk teas for only $1. They also had sushi here too. Lots of variety. I'd say do some price comparison with the weekly ads, but it's a decent Asian market to go to. read more

COVID-19 edition Great selection of well stocked Asian groceries at a good price. At the height of the pandemic it was one of the only places where you could find eggs and other rare goods. Good safety precautions, one of the first places to have plexiglass up, their staff in masks, gloves and shields. They have stopped letting you bring in your own bags, to limit contact spread, so leave them in the car. Previously they use to give out gloves but they stopped doing that a few months ago. They have good traffic control and the lines move very fast, compared to other markets. Lines do get long so coming early is your best bet. Suggested to get there about 2 to 3 hours after opening to allow for the staff to do adequate restocking of all the items, otherwise you might miss out on items like rice rolls which tend to be restocked later in the day. My not so good market day experience at 99 ranch market in Rowland Heights. Don't get me wrong!!! One thing I love this market because they have wide array of fresh fish selections especially on weekends. Hear me out, this issue is particularly and specifically fish department area only wherein this happened today between the hours of 8am-9am. Normally this area is busy esp around noon time but I got lucky since I started my to do list early. I was there as far as I know I waited to be served!! I was in front of this Chinese tall guy i saw him attending a customer after him attending he saw me so I presumed I was next plus I was literally holding my ticket number which he saw me coz no was there my #51 he just literally left the counter without saying anything, I could understand if he's busy but I was alone in-front of him or better yet if he needs to do 1 or 2 , I would consider this encounter as refusal to serve because I am "Filipino there is no doubt imo. Take note "no customer atm but me" check it out. So I waited patiently for someone to help me up until an Hispanic fish staff who was then busy restocking helped me (roll your cctv please) After he handed over my "Lingcod head fish" which is by the way $9/lb with total of $32.00. my next stop was to check another fish it's like orange-reddish-color really fresh fish. I asked this attending fish guy in the other side of the counter he is "hispanic" I guess it is his area he sounded with "big time attitude"judging by his tone of his voice I asked him the name of the fish I'm pointing to him since there is no label, he goes"that is pompano can't you not see the label???? On some GPS systems it says Industry, CA while others would say the RH. When in Southern California my mum's cousin and her neighbors would often frequent this 99 ranch market. It's one of those Canadian style Asian markets that is inside a shopping center. I know something like this is lurking around the 604 but before 2022 such things are a true gem. I really like how there is a wide selection of everything I need is here. I need a cake for chinese new year, they got it. Need fruits and veggies? They got it. I found some of the staff speak English, but the customers are super nice and they've always been willing to help me find answers to my questions. The prices are fair. We went here for ice cream and ended up getting a few other groceries as well. There's another 99 Ranch Market nearby but this was closer to where we were coming from. They have a big parking lot so it's easy to find parking. It's in an indoor shopping complex and it's located at the end of the walkway through the entrance. So as you walk in, you'll see shopping carts and a bench that reminds you to keep 6 ft apart, and if you keep walking past the little shops on both sides you come to the entrance of the shopping area. And at that entrance there's a man cleaning more shopping carts. This location seemed to have less variety than the other one nearby. Although they do have many isles to go through. Since we went specifically for ice cream that's what we notice the most in what was lacking. They did have a variety of brands but they didn't have many of the flavors within each brand, especially of the flavors that I wanted. The checkout line has blue stickers on the floor to indicate 6 ft apart. The check out lady had a face mask, face shield and gloves on. When we exited we saw a sign that said Do not enter Exit only. This 99 Ranch is located in a mini mall. Stepping in, it was hot, and the smells are stronger than at other locations. I'm not sure if their A/C was not on full blast or what. This location is a little smaller than other ones with the aisles pretty narrow. They have most of what you're looking for, but I didn't see a couple of items I needed. I purchased some plates, and I was surprised that they were just going to bag my fragile items without wrapping them until I asked if they had paper to wrap the plates. The nice thing about this location is that parking is easier to find, even on a weekend. Overall, still a decent place to grab your Asian groceries. Not only is the parking lot spacious, the store itself has wider aisles and a pretty good selection of stuff. We came here to pickup groceries before making the 5.5-hour drive back to the Bay Area. It helps to have a really good cooler! I found two cool items here that I don't recall being available in 99 Ranches in the Easy Bay: 1. Lao Gan Ma Chili Bean Paste: Watch the video blog of WWE wrestler/movie star John Cena extolling the virtues of this sauce in near-perfect Mandarin. You can mix this with anything - fish, noodles, boiled veggies for instant flavor. 2. Mantou: Also known as plain Chinese steam buns that are popular in Northern China (wheat tends to grow North while rice is to the South). Surprisingly lots of flavor varieties here - we got walnut and red date. They should be stored cold, but steam for a few minutes in a covered pot for best results. Boy do I love this place, I even got a membership card. Grocery stores to me are true joy. The bigger the better, and a specially with products that are hard to find in the average store.
