This is the second time I visited this Italian restaurant for dinner within a year. The quality of service has always been excellent, and the quality of food is always at a high standard. They don't have a big menu ( it's bigger than what you found online ) but it's comprehensive to cover a good selection of food ( and wine as well ). I particularly love their antipasti menu as there are lots of choice such as beef carpaccio, bruschetta with artichoke, Mozzarella Caprese, steamed mixed seafood ( shrimps, clams and mussels ), etc.. They were all delicious, particularly the bruschetta, steamed seafood and caprese. The sauce of the steamed seafood was so saturated we asked for a few rounds of bread just to eat it with the sauce! The beef carpaccio could be better if it comes with arugula, olive oil and Parmesan cheese, which is the way how it's being served in Italy. While pasta is always a good choice there, the Costata Alla Florentina and grilled sea brass are also yummy. The grilled rib-eye steak comes in 16oz that can be shared by 2 people. It's served with white beans that were very delicious. The sea brass, which was a special of the day, was grilled just right, and big enough to be shared. I hope we can visit this restaurant again in the near future whenever I pass by Santa Barbara. I've loved this place since the first time I visited. I was told about their ravioli and despite what I previously thought about ravioli, theirs is magnificent. I think about it all the time. Their salmon is usually top notch as well. Whenever I plan a trip to Santa Barbara DV8 Wines and Ca'Dario are must visits. The last time I visited, I brought my girlfriend and her father who had been listening to all of my ravioli stories all weekend. Since her dad is a salmon lover too, we got a couple raviolis and a salmon to share. The service was way off last time and was pretty embarrassing for me since I was talking the place up so much. The salmon came out with the skin burned black. The skin is usually my favorite part here since they usually serve it up nice and crispy but it was like ash. It smelled burnt and that scent and flavor permeated the salmon all the way through. Being a 14 year restaurant veteran myself, I hate sending food back to the kitchen but this was bad. . I apologized to our server and asked for another one. The replacement hit the table 5 minutes later. As you can imagine, salmon takes a lot longer than that to be consumed unless you're a grizzly bear. It was raw throughout. Now I was getting extremely uncomfortable but had to address it with the server. When she re fired it, it came out a mess but we ate as much as we could. She continued to treat me different and we could tell she was now agitated, misdirecting her disappointment from the kitchen to us. She was rude and rushed us to free up her table. I paid and we left. I called up and spoke to the GM and told him how as a respectful customer, I wanted to address all the issues from the night directly with him and not leave a nasty Yelp review like so many cowards do these days. He was very receptive, thanked me, took my name and address and offered me a gift card to come back so he could make it up to me. It's been 7 months and after repeatedly trying to get in touch with him, with calls and Emails, the GM still hasn't contacted me back. I even spoke to the manager, Fernando about 2 weeks ago before my last visit to SB to see what was going on. They are a great spot that had a bad night but they should have comped our meal that night or sent the gift card as promised. read more

Absolutely love this place!. Very intimate, great for romantic candlelight dinners :-) They have a lovely wine selection, and the 2 best entrees I have had so far are the rack of Lamb (melts in your mouth) and the Spinach Ravioli. The ravioli has such delicate flavors infused in it that it makes you enjoy every single bite of it. And the best part is, it's not heavy like most of the other ravioli entrees served in Italian restaurants. Overall, really good food. read more

I freaking love this place!!! The salmon dish is the bomb-cooked perfectly and comes with yummy sautéed spinach with shaved garlic, perfectly roasted potatoes and my favorite roasted beets...yummy in my tummy!!! Where to begin... how about the beginning. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Immediately I could tell we'd be well taken care of here. Everything was delicious-- even the waters that were offered to us right off the bat tasted delicious and we are very picky about water. The caprese was fresh and authentic. The aromatic basil was so pungent that it was obvious it was freshly sliced, but it was also almost as though they just pulled it off the plant. I recommend the bolognese. I thought I could smell them cooking the meat and that definitely whet my appetite. The sauce didn't taste like the meat was JUST cooked-- no-- it tasted like it had been simmering slowly to perfection for hours. It made me reminisce of old world dishes like priest stranglers. My girlfriend had some salmon in penne pasta dish. I didn't taste it but she did remark that she had wished the salmon would have come in one piece because having it broken up into to bite size pieces made the dish almost feel like a tuna casserole of sorts. Overall she said it was delicious and that she would order it again. I noticed that a lot of the people coming in were obviously regulars. It was pleasant to see the warm interactions between staff and guests. With the feel of a small villa Italian eatery- and deliciously authentic food- it is easy to see how they could have so many repeat customers. read more

This was my grandfather's favorite Italian restaurant so we decided to honor him and go to Ca'Dario for Christmas Eve. I was very disappointed in the service. We had a reservation for 7:30pm. At 8:15pm we were still standing around waiting to be seated. They kept telling us that it would be 15 more minutes. There was nowhere to wait and people were standing around the tables crowding the restaurant. Even if they had been able to seat us, we would not want to pay such a high price to dine next to people standing around practically on top of us. At this point, we decided to leave. Who knows how much longer it would have been. For such a nice restaurant, I am surprised they did not handle the situation better. Ca'Dario should have known that Christmas Eve would be a busy night and planned accordingly. We talked with 3 other parties who were waiting and they were also very unhappy. read more

Wonderful, romantic Italian dinner with the hubby! This restaurant was recommended to us and I'm so happy we tried it! We were able to snag last minute reservations on a Friday night. We got in at 6:30pm, and by 7pm, every seat in the place was taken! The place was packed, and a crowd was already out front waiting!! We started off with salads; I ordered the house salad, and my husband got a Caesar. He wasn't crazy about his, and said it was a basic Caesar salad. Mine however, was awesome! I highly recommend the house! I already knew I was going to order the well known Brown butter sage ravioli. Holy smokes!!!! This dish is no joke - it was everything I hoped - It was down right dreamy! I savored every bite....I even dipped the bread they give you in the left over butter at the end. I will absolutely be going back here just for this dish! Service was on point! Drinks were refilled before we had a chance to finish them, bread was always on the table, and dishes were removed at the appropriate time. A fantastic Italian trattoria. To start off we had CARCIOFO RIPIENO - Cold steamed artichoke, stuffed with artichoke hearts and bread, topped with chopped tomatoes, garlic and basil. Yummy! Our wine selection was Pinot Noir, Laetitia, Arroyo Grande Valley. I had the shrimp and scallop risotto special which was amazing! Chad and Pete both had the SPAGHETTINI CON FASOLARI - Thin spaghetti with fresh clams, garlic, chili flakes, parsley and white wine. Then Tiramisu for dessert. I love Italian food and have tried many restaurants in the area and this is definitely one of the best. First off, service is great. The ambience is perfect for date night, lighting is quite dim. The restaurant is a little crowded but cozy (not really suitable for big crowds). The food is spectacular. It was so great that I ordered two entrees! I had the Ravioli Al Burro E Salvia and the Tagliatelle Verdi Alla Bolognese. I love love love pasta and I would say I'm pretty picky about how it's cooked and prepped properly but both dishes were amazing. The ravioli were fluffy and each bite was heavenly. The bolognese was creamy and rich. For dessert, I had an assortment of gelato: hazelnut, chocolate, pistachio. You couldn't really taste the hazelnut, very faint. My favorite was the pistachio but it did taste a little artificial. Overall, I would definitely come back here. Prices are on the higher side but that's typical in SB. read more

REPOST CAUSE THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO GET MY ORIGINAL REVIEW REMOVED BY YELP WOW HAHAHA don't try me. DON was our server and he was rude and non-attentive. Our group of 16 came and they originally split us in two tables. We asked specifically for split check and he said yes but then gave us all one check at the end and acted like he forgot. I said it twice to split check and watched him write our order on a different page. Why combine it after??? But that's not why the review is one star. My steak was ordered Medium rare but arrived completely well done. There was no pink in it AT ALL. When I told him it was too well done he made me cut into the middle again cause he didn't believe me. Then I had to use my phone light to shine it onto the steak because it was so dim for his eyes to see. How embarrassing and degrading that I had to draw attention to myself for their kitchen's mistake. After he took it back he came back within like 5 minutes and the steak was still moo-ing. It was blue/rare... seemed to be only seared. Another server noticed I wasn't eating and asked if I wanted it sent back. I said I was letting it rest and showed him how rare it was (without the light this time because he had some human decency). He took it back and promised he won't forget it because I was hungry and I didn't want it done wrong a third time. After all this we didn't receive any apologies or offered any kind of compensation. Never even saw a manager table touch. Was there one there that night? While passing to help his other tables he hit two of our friends in the back of their heads with plates. And he even SPILLED A GLASS OF WINE while clearing the table. His response? "At least it wasn't you, birthday girl". Ok so he managed to treat the birthday girl well but no one else. He never table checked after food arrived so everyone sat with empty water glasses for the entirety of the meal. Not sure how he's still a server here. Pretty sure he didn't care about us since we were a large party and he was getting an automatic twenty percent gratuity. That doesn't mean you can just punch in our orders and forget about customer service. P.S. all the food is pretty salty. Why are their water glasses so tiny? read more

While the overall food and atmosphere are very good, once dish stands out and is a must order. , the ravioli al burro e salvia are pillows filled with spinach and ricotta topped with crispy sage, brown butter, and drizzled with a little marinara. You can and should order it as an appetizer or main course. If disappointed, there is something seriously wrong with you. We selected this restaurant because it had an interesting menu with vegetarian options and many positive reviews. In many ways, it offered a solid choice for our party of 10. That said, the overall impression we had was that the food was fairly ordinary. Pasta dishes were served with overcooked pasta and sauces that were unspectacular. Salads were copious, but almost entirely lettuce with lots of shredded cheese. Bread was uninspiring. Only bottled water (not tap) was offered. The one exception was a pork chop that was reportedly quite substantial and cooked exactly right. Wine choices were good, but overpriced compared to other restaurants nearby. Perhaps it was the size of our party, but our overall impression was that the restaurant isn't really trying. At the end of the meal, we had a mixup with the credit cards. Instead of splitting the bill evenly, several of us got credit card receipts for the entire party of 10! This was quickly remedied, but honestly, at this price point, we expected more. read more

The best Gnocchi I've ever had was here at Ca' Dario. And it continues to be, every time I have it. Of course it's handmade and you know it is when those fluffy pillows melt in your mouth. They only serve it on Thursdays, which seems to make it even more special. Every week they serve it with a different special sauce. My favorite is the bolognese, and you can order it with your gnocchi if you prefer to skip the weekly special. We always start with the Ciotola Di Mare. A delicious dish of clams, mussels and shrimp in a tomato and saffron broth. Dipping your bread in the sauce is the perfect way to be sure avoid wasting a drop of this heavenly treat. We always request to sit in Claudia's section. She's simply wonderful and makes you feel like your at home or being taken care of at a friend's house. Had the most amazing dinner tonight at Ca Dario on Victoria Street! Wow, class act service by Louis and asst waiter, Cade. These guys gave 10 star service and made the night special. The food was as great as the service: ceaser salad, asparagus appetizer, sage and butter raviolis and incredible risotto with crab, leaks and the sweetest scallops from Alaska I have ever had! YUM!!
