Goodness gracious great balls of gristle and fat. Obviously not high quality meat. The black beans had no flavor. No corn tortillas so the only real option for gluten sensitive is not to eat the tortillas. We have been coming here for years, but not consistently. However each time, the food has been consistently good. Crazy enough our family had never tried their tacos (typically we order the bowl or burritos). Our most recent visit our family of 4 all ordered a variety of tacos. And OMG! Insanely delicious and loaded with protein! I ordered the salmon and the lemon grilled shrimp with corn tortilla shell. The salmon was absolutely my favorite. The flavor was amazing and the salmon cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the tuna taco and allowed me to try it. Wow! The tuna blew my mind as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside around 4:30, and were very comfortable with the outdoor fans going along with the umbrellas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And our server was excellent. Cabo is always a pretty easy, casual option for us. Being right near Ballantyne Backyard is nice so we can grab a bite to eat before or after exploring the attraction going on in BB at the time. I am more of a traditional Mexican food fan but my husband and daughter are so-so and Cabo has more options that satisfy them :) Service is good but not fast so keep that in mind. Here's what we tried: A Little bit of Spice cocktail and the mango jalapeno margarita - both were delicious. Spice one was very light and refreshing and the margarita was on the sweeter side. Queso is always a must here for us. Kids meal was solid - huge portion of quesadillas and fries with a big cup of milk. And crayons with coloring page - always a win. We tried the blackened mahi, steak and fried shrimp tacos - all extremely delicious and filling. We got the plantains and jalapeno cheddar mashers for the sides - OMG. Both so good. Plenty of parking and outside seating - a nice option when in the area! read more

Not impressed! Salsa had more corn than anything else, plus not very flavorful. Queso dip didn't taste like it was made from real cheese, and again, no flavor. I ordered the Diablo Shrimp which was ok until I started to pour the dressing which I think was supposed to be balsamic vinegar. It seemed to have been watered down. I had never seen balsamic vinegar dressing pour like water! My husband ordered a bowl with steak. The steak had no flavor at all. I don't think it had been seasoned with anything. Cabo Fish Taco is our go-to spot for tacos and margaritas. I just love their fun, fresh flavors of the land and sea. I never venture outside of my usual Honey Soy Glazed Salmon taco but this time I did and WOW. The shrimp & chicken burrito had so much flavor and I really enjoyed the guac they throw in there. I got the sauce on the side for drizzling onto each bite and it was fantastic. Very filling, too! Also enjoyed were the lemon grilled shrimp taco and tavarua tuna taco. We loved it all! I also highly recommend the shrimp/crab dip with those toasted pita pockets. YUM. The el cheapo margarita is good for only $8 but I usually go for the skinny margarita. First time here and front staff was nice but took a little while to seat us, it seem like they were busy. It's pretty spacious inside and outside. The food I would say is a little pricey. I am a longtime fan of Cabo's. I frequent the NODA Location a lot and found myself in Ballantine around lunchtime. I remembered that Cabo had a location here so we made our way over. I am happy to say that this location is a great addition to the family. Same quality product that you get in the other locations and we really enjoyed our experience. Quite selfishly we asked the manager if there were plans to open a location at Lake Norman. Funny as one of the owners was actually there and came over to chat with us. I would recommend this location and would visit it again when I am in the area. read more

Tried Cabo Fish Taco right before we went to see the lights in Ballantyne's Backyard. We had some time to kill and our waiter, Caleb, was cool with us sitting for a while. We ordered Baja Shrimp and Crab dip to start. Wow, was that good! The pita toast points were a bit much with it, but the chips that came with the salsa were great with it. For the mains I had the BBQ mahi tacos and my husband had the carne asada tacos and we both had Baja rice as our side. It was a lot of food, but so good! read more

Ballantyne location has been the third Cabo I've dined at and the service, portions, and timeliness blew us away. Two of us went on a Monday night and were in and out within 30 minutes. Our server was so attentive, helpful with recommendations, and quick quick quick. All 4 tacos we got were amazing - honey soy glazed salmon, soy ginger shrimp, bbq mahi, and the Tavarua tuna. DONT SKIP THE JALAPEÑO CHEDDAR MASHERS IF THEYRE IN SEASON (plantains we're also delish). Atmosphere wasn't anything out of the ordinary but location is pretty big. Cabos fish taco is a winner. This is a great location in Ballantyne right off the exit of 485, decent sized patio and indoor space, with a cool to-go window you can order and pick-up from. I made this a pit stop before going to the Charlotte Arts Festival in "Ballantyne's Back Yard". So again, great location. I parked in the free parking deck and walked over, they also have spots available directly in front as well. I ordered the chicken and shrimp burrito with my girlfriend, we actually split it. The sever had it cut and half which was really nice, you also get one side with your entree. Our side of fries that comes with the burrito, was evenly portioned out (it's the little things). The food is really fresh and has great flavor. I like the chips and "salsa" but my girlfriend likes a little more sauce in the salsa and less pico style, which is mostly corn and diced tomatoes. The fries were also outstanding, they are similar to McDonald's fries but less starchy and processed. Overall I had a very pleasant experience, the 20 min wait on a Saturday ended up being 15 min, and they text your phone when your table is ready. In the meantime you can walk around the "Ballantynes Back Yard" which is just a nice open space with a green way. Pro tip: Take the walk in the backyard after you stuff yourself, you'll feel much better for it. :) read more

This was our third time here and they were absolutely packed! Even so, we had reserved a table and we had zero wait to be seated. Our server was Sierra who was phenomenal! She had a lot of tables with kids running everywhere, everyone asking for something. Somehow though, she made us feel that we were the only table she was taking care of. Our drinks never got close to the bottom before she showed up with a refill. Our food was brought out quickly and was delicious as usual. I ordered 2 steak tacos for pickup. These were easily some of the worst tacos I've ever had in my life. Tortillas were so wet that tacos basically fell apart. So wet and mushy that it was almost more of a wet burrito vs taco. Also got the French fries that were not even cooked and soggy. I won't be back. Delicious as always.. the shrimp is perfectly crunchy and the salmon has that nice zing of wasabi to it. The actually had the tavaroo tuna tacos back on the menu so my coworker ordered it and LOVED it! Service: 5/5 - I cannot remember our server's name but she has worked there for awhile now. Super attentive and so sweet with a great attitude. The hostess up front was very helpful and nice too! Vibes: 5/5 - Nice "Caribbean" music if you want to call it. Definitely cabo vibes and fits the restaurant. Went during a weekday lunch and many other business professionals came by to have lunch to Other: parking is easy and out front. One word: FLAVORFUL! Definitely check this spot out and don't trust your GPS to get you there; ours dropped us off at a parking deck but just as we were about to give up on finding it, we realized this dive is in a more corporate setting. We wanted to sit outside due to COVID cautiousness and that was not a problem. It's basically open seating once you let the hostess know you're there. Be warned: some people do bring their furry friends which is often a turn off for me. But, we secured a cute, tucked away picnic table and felt secluded. Jael was our waitress and she was super sweet, responsive and cracked a few jokes with us. I'm the type of chick that plans what I want to eat before arriving at a restaurant. Today I wanted the shrimp and crab dip but decided against it at the last minute. And, I'm glad I did because I would not have had room for my awesome lunch. I ordered the "nectar of the gods" for my drink purely based on the name. Well, it didn't quite measure up to the name but it was just a good margarita. Very decent size, I might add. I got the shrimp and chicken burrito without the peppers with a side of black beans and rice. Whenever there are black beans on the menu, bet $100 that I'm getting them. My lunch was AMAZING! My burrito was stuffed with goodness and I could barely finish it but I was determined not to leave a bite. The beans and rice had an amazing flavor. Hubby got the mahi mahi tacos with fries. Looked good, too, and he said it was. Oh, I forgot that you get chips and salsa, too. The chips may have been a tad close to stale but the salsa had a wonderful flavor! Mouth watering honey salmon tacos!! Seriously these tacos are the perfect blend of savory and sweet. The salmon is cubed, has a wonderful flavor of honey and crispy coating. The crema is an avocado crema and they give generous portions. I loved these tacos!! The sides are a choice and I tried the fried plantains, which were heavenly savory salty goodness. Yummy!! Was in town for a business trip and came here for a solo dinner and talked my team into returning the next day. The first time had an ahi taco and mahi taco. Was told the sushi is sashimi grade and I have to agree as it was amazing! The margaritas were also amazing. Had ahi tacos again for lunch the next time and while it was still good, it was as good as the time before. I think the ahi was a bit older. The best Salmon salad I've ever had is not in a fancy seafood restaurant, not in an upscale steakhouse, it is here at Cabo Fish Taco. They cooked the salmon at a perfect medium and included a very tasty scoop of guacamole on a bed of greens that brought the whole salad together. It came with some tasty, glazed vinaigrette on the side that I did not end up even using because I was afraid to ruin the deliciousness I was already tasting. I don't live in NC but when I go back to visit my parents, I will make this the first stop . The service is also exceptional with all employees going out of their way to make us comfortable and make sure we had everything we needed. They have a few different flavors of margaritas and other cocktails. I tried the skinny margarita and it was actually very refreshing, albeit strong. The chips and corn salsa that comes before your food was also delicious. Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed (and devoured) their tacos, which came with a side of grilled vegetables that really complemented the meal. A friend tipped me about this Ballantyne location of Cabo Fish Taco... and how it had a great patio, so decided to check it out. Well, she was right...the patio was great, and very spacious at that! Surprisingly, even at 3 pm, there was a good number of people...but again, very spacious patio, so no problems there. And Yay...all staff members were wearing masks. Now, the food! Well, I used to absolutely LOVE their Baja Shrimp and Crab Dip from their original Noda location. In fact, we always ordered this, along with the Fish Tacos...and I remember liking it more than the meal itself. SO...I decided to just order this old favorite, and skip the Tacos. Sadly, the Dip just didn't taste as good as I remembered it. Not sure why, but think the crab dip wasn't as shrimp and crabby, but maybe too much mayo? Also, the pita was a bit too thick...but then I always wished they were lighter, not so thick and heavy. I bet the calories are off the charts! Thank God I ate only a small portion of this app dish. Another thing about this place that I always loved was their complimentary Corn Succotash (and free Nachos, but not a fan of Nachos in general). The service was good, but again, my pet peeve. This young (30-something?) waitress kept calling me a "Sweetie", "Sweetheart" and "Dear". Maybe I'm being too Asian, but I found this really rude and condescending...especially given that I'm over 10 years her senior. BTW, that doesn't mean I want her to call me a "Ma'am" either lol! Just never understood why there's this need to address total strangers with nicknames or these southern terms of endearments?? Just a huge pet peeve! Anyway, I'm glad there's this second location in South Charlotte...though I must admit that I'm partial to the original location (just amazing that I never once wrote a review for the older location...as many a times I've been over the years!). I've been wanting to check this restaurant out but didn't want to drive all the way to NoDa, surprise, there is one in Ballantyne, much closer to me. I went for a late lunch on Sunday and had a very good first time experience. They have a great menu with lots of choices but I opted for one each of the Mahi Mahi & Salmon, both grilled. I really like that they grill the flour tortilla to give it extra flavor. The fish is cute up into bitesize pieces and it's a lot of food! I didn't have a Margarita, but their Marg menu looks great and there are 12 choices! I had fantastic service from Katie, who kept the cold Arnold Palmers coming. She even offered me a go cup and one for the road! They have a nice outdoor patio and the the restaurant seemed very clean. All the Staff is providing Covid Safety measures. Plenty of free parking in an easy to access location. I would def recommend this place. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! (If you like fish) This place has a great selection of fish. Always fresh and perfectly seasoned. Name your flavor and they've got it. I'm particularly fond of the salmon and the chunked tuna - my wife loves the shrimp. We've never been disappointed. When you arrive they bring out some chips right off the press (or out of the fryer ) and some house made salsa. It's full of flavor and you can easily fill up on it . Don't ! The portions are very generous and you can split any meal easily between two people (especially the bowl, just double the protein ). The kids meals don't have a large selection, but they do have the staples that most picky kids would eat - cheese quesadilla, fries, rice, fruit medley (plus the fish stuff). If your kid is a picky eater feed them before hand or reserve this for date night. The atmosphere is good, but the best part is the outdoor seating, especially during great weather. As a bonus the "Ballantyne backyard" large green park is just around the corner, a two minute walk. Great to enjoy before you head there or to take a walk after if you haven't stuffed your belly too much. Servers are usually great! Lunch was decently busy, so I recommend placing the order and checking out right away if you're on a time limit for work. The staff are friendly and you didn't need a reservation to be seated. The place was not as clean as a cooking and they sent me a table to had a chair full of water and sticky table. I got the salmon taco and the Ginger shrimp taco. I have enjoyed these before At the Noda location, but the taste was different here. My margarita served in a beer glass I may return if desperate or out of options, but it was okay. There were so areas for improvement. read more

We sat outside at the table right outside the front entrance. Staff was nice, but busy. Complimentary chips and corn salsa. Chips are very salty but very good. Didn't care for the corn salsa but asked for something different and was brought out a small saucer of their mango pineapple salsa. The texture reminded me of applesauce but it was very delicious. We split a chicken and shrimp burrito with French fries for the side item. They were nice enough to pre-split the burrito and it was brought out on separate plates. Fries were good, they reminded me of McDonald's fries. Burrito was ok. It wasn't hot, not even warm. The sauce brought the heat and was a little too spicy for my liking. Overall, decent experience.
