Very good Mexican restaurant on South Blvd. It is family owned and they are always happy to see me when I go. They bring you fresh house made salsas and tortilla chips when you first sit down. They handle all of the basic Mexican dishes very well. They also have authentic tacos and specials as well. They have beer and a full bar to boot and even put Margaritas on special some days. I'm from California and grew up on street tacos, so my standards are high. La Preferida blew me away. On Thursdays, I grab 5 al pastor and 5 carnitas tacos for $1.75 each, unreal deal. Nicest staff ever! The flavor hits just like home. Juicy meat, perfect tortillas, salsa that makes you sweat in a good way. The Thursday deal is elite, but I go multiple times a week. It's that good. Came for dinner Wednesday night, only two people dining. The server was very nice, spoke little English. They have 3 different salsas which were very good. I ordered Pollo Asado thinking it was chicken breast but it was actually a thigh and leg. I should have read the menu more carefully. However the chicken was cold inside. Not ice but cold. The server offered to heat it up but I was over it at that point. I may return just for the salsas and might try something else that has to be cooked to order. read more

I've had delivery from this restaurant before, but dining in is an incredible experience. The bright colors and charming interior make you feel right at home. Well... sometimes South Blvd can be a pain! Good news , if you find yourself on the end of a hit and run accident near La Preferida they will quickly serve you to-go so you can at least have a dinner in your car waiting for Charlotte's finest to come out to give you a police report! Seriously though, I am so appreciative of the amazing friendly service and warm reception of the host as well as super delicious tacos, quesadillas, guacamole and cold bottled soda. This made the perfect solution to a tough night and I can't wait to come back to try more! I came in for the one dollar tacos on a Thursday. They have fast service I was approached as soon as I walked in everything seems fresh and authentic. I see families in here and groups of friends so you can pretty much bring anyone. It is very reasonably priced and the margarita was OK. My only issue was that you did not get the opportunity to see what you pay for, they do not have proper receipts. I paid cash and card. The receipt comes out if you pay with a credit card, but doesn't show what you actually had on your tab. I had three shrimp tacos, which was only a dollar and a margarita which was 1150 total came out to be 18 so were the tacos now $1.50 and you had a tax, I don't know either way. I was craving some Mexicana so I stopped at the first place I found . Yes it looked a little divey from outside. Yes it looked a lot old inside but I was giving the place a shot. I ordered taquitos . It came with lettuce beans rice and a tomato with a dollop of a avocado on top. I have to say kindly none of it was great. The meat ( beef) in the taquito was salty and not great. The chicken taquito was just okay. The rice was orange. It didn't taste great - so I passed on eating it. The beans were just salty and not good. The tea was half & half and I remember thinking maybe I was having an off day to be this dissatisfied with the entire experience - even the tea. We were in from out of town and met some friends here. Food was so good and loved the $1.50 taco night! I had the shrimp burrito and it was great! They didn't skimp on the shrimp! BEST LITTLE " hole in the wall restaurant " so cute on the side decorated so cute ! Looks like a little fiesta going on ! They bring chips to you dine in only for complimentary chips and salsa , they are always so nice in here and very quick with food literally but usually I only get the Lengua tacos which is cow tongue to each it's own . Anyways very authentic tacos but they do have an option to dress them up more if you want sour cream or etc , corn tortillas are fresh and homemade not those store brought craps ! I know when I was pregnant I took a chance and ordered them on DoorDash and everything was still hot when it came to me . I've pretty much had everything on there menu and desserts , everything is made to order and it's a real BANG for your buck especially when I ordered on DoorDash I would spend maybe $15 or less and using DoorDash that's a steal ! Great food! Fast service! And very friendly atmosphere! This is my go to for a great Taco salad and steak fajitas!

Servers were all wearing masks which is a good thing of course, and we were seated reasonably distanced from other tables. Solid place to go if you are looking for authentic Mexican food at a decent value, but nothing really stood out as memorable, as the service was average to slow while the food was pretty good but definitely nothing head and shoulders above what you can get at numerous places along the South Blvd corridor. read more

The food is really good, the majority of the time. On Thursday it's $1 tacos. The service sucks though, I would have gave them a lower star if the food wasn't so good. Take a close look at your receipt because they will charger more than it says on the menu. They have done it at least 4 times and just called them out last time. This is my first time leaving a review and I can honestly say that this is the worst service I have ever received. First of all, the waiters were not wearing mask or gloves. I sat in here for 2 hours and no one washed their hands in between taking dirty dishes to the back and bringing food out, on top of that they all were playing in their noses. I ordered Steak Fajitas and after watching customers come in behind me ordering food we waited and asked where our food was, then the waiter came out a hour later and said that the rice was gone. Why not tell us that an hour ago when we ordered so we could order something else?! On top of that the cook went in the bathroom and took a huge dookie and came back out to work. $1 Taco Thursdays! Need I say more? The staff is very serviceable and polite. We go nearly every Thursday and gorge on tacos and horchata (well, I have my Negra Modelo, the kids have horchata). I would strongly suggest you try to make it no later than 7pm on Thursday or the house will be packed. They automatically bring you fresh chips and 3 types of salsas to your table right after you order your drinks. They gro from tomatoey, to burn your butt, to your soul is on fire hot! But all three are incredibly delicious. Here's a free tip, for your tacos ALWAYS use the green sauce, it the only way to go (with chunks of avocado in it!). The food comes out almost immediately after you place your order. I mean, I've never seen service this fast. Which makes sense, the meat is being made and they just have to throw it together, which is how it works in most food trucks and taco stands. La Unica has become La Preferida. Not much has changed, as far as I can tell--the food is still muy autentico, delicious, fast, and inexpensive. Everything on the menu looks to be the same and so are the recipes. The service is as fast and pleasant as ever. You still get three kinds of salsa and a bowl of lime wedges with the free tortilla chips. It's not a fancy place, but that doesn't matter one bit. I go here for lunch at least once every couple of weeks. The place is always well-populated with Latinx and non-Latinx customers alike, from laborers to families to office workers. There are two TVs always playing Spanish-language programming when I go, but there's also a jukebox. I can personally recommend the tortas (especially al pastor), the chicken quesadilla, and my usual order, the chicken enchiladas en salsa roja. read more

We miss being able to go in and eat and drink but they hav been outstanding with their to go food. Same great quality of service and food. We have been ordering out alot during this virus outbreak and some places have cut corners on quality of food as well as quantity but not them it has been just as good if not better. First time going here-we love Mexican and stopped bc of the ratings. Well all I can say is that it must of been family or friends bc I generally get a margarita and two tacos-mess that up and my m not going any further. So we got seated and 3 sauces served so we asked for chips and got a half basket as if they were leftovers from another table. The margaritas were so syrupy sweet and didn't taste like any tequila in it asked how much just for a shot of tequila and quoted $10.50 on top of $8.50 for the 'syrup'. The chicken taco was extremely dry-one bite of the steak taco and it was so salty you could not eat anymore.
