Soleado Beach & Spa Resort - Surf board rentals

    Soleado Beach & Spa Resort

We have been fortunate to stay at the Soleado Resort and Spa. It is beautiful right on the beach…read moreand a key location for water activities. They rent surf boards, paddle boards etc. at a very reasonable price. Israel took my husband out surfing and they had a great time. We also had lunch at the restaurant (fish and shrimp tacos) they were so delicious I got so excited to dig in I forgot to snap a picture to share. These things were all great but the property is so special! They only have about 30 units so no problems getting a spot around the infinity pool with an umbrella or the beach.

I wanted to love this place. Here is what to love.....Intimate building with only 30 units. We rented the only 6th floor unit available with a plunge pool, sunning areas, bar top table and grill upstairs. Loved that space and privacy! People here were very friendly, from the staff (when they were here, more on that later) to the residents (they throw a pretty good owners party here) to the other guests. We loved having a kitchen in our unit (as does every unit) and had different groups of folks come cook for us in the unit and then also had some great dining around Cabo as well. Beds were good, pillows were plentiful as were towels for bath and beach. Bathroom was good size and we had 4 of us in a place that could comfortably handle six guests (3 bedrooms and 2 baths). So what took my love down to just a like? The property is only 2.5 years old. It is looking a bit more tired than that, surprisingly. Things broken around the building, the bartender and cook (same guy) not showing up for breakfast on multiple days, no one at the front desk (they say someone is there from 9-5). Asking where the gym was on day one and being shown to a totally unfinished concrete room on the 2nd floor. I am going to write this off to COVID and say not much was happening the last two years and given the number of resident owners, I would expect them to fix this as things improve. Would I return to San Jose del Cabo? Absolutely! Would I return to Soleado? A definite maybe.....This place is a gem that needs some polish.

They have a pool upstairs and a bartender. The view from the roof is a mound of dirt where someone is building a new hotel or something and on the other side you get to see a highway which has another hill or something next to it. The people who work here are very nice Unfortunately that was the best part of it. They are bilingual, which isn't an issue for me, but it may be for some. And they have a free breakfast like most Hampton Inns. The bad...We got a free trip. That's why we came here. This place isn't near anything except for a food court next door. we weren't near a beach. The promised beach was a bus ride away. The bartender wasn't available for a drink at 4:30 pm, she was supposed to be there until 6:30-7:00. The ugly...We got a free trip? Oh dear. We tried to walk to a store and along the high way because I didn't realize that it was an actual highway. There were others walking and on bikes too. It was miserably hot outside, even on the roof by the water. And the coldness of the rooms was such that I got a lung infection caused by supremely cold air. I couldn't use my C-PAP because it was so cold. Meaning that I spent my husband's birthday in the emergency room because I couldn't breathe without a lot of effort. I left with two inhalers. We couldn't turn the heat down in the room because the only options were very cold and off, which because too warm. Never again. This wasn't a free trip. It was a nightmare of an experience. I'm glad that it lasted only four days, a week would have been torture!
