This is a cute location and more cozy than Caboose Commons at Mosaic. It's located conveniently off of the W&OD trail in Vienna, which means a lot of bikers and families frequent this cafe. It's vibrant and fun, and I have plans to try biking there myself this summer! This location has more of a sit-down vibe than Caboose Commons, and the service is very fast and friendly. Their menu is perhaps less expansive but is focused more on entrees and cocktails than snacks/ light bites and beer. The vibes are very different, and I think there are positives about both locations. However, the staff here is far more friendly and the vibes are, on the whole, better. I wouldn't come here to work (like I would at Commons) or play a board game, but I enjoy their sit-down brunch more. I've had the chance to sample several of the hot cocktails at this location, and they've all been excellent. I oddly haven't ordered beer here, but my wife has and says it's the same fresh quality as at Commons. Both locations (to my knowledge) charge a fair wage tax, which is great, but make sure you know that before tacking on an additional huge tip, as it is (I think) around 18-20%. I've only been for brunch on weekends, but it's always been a nice experience. This business sits right on the trail and makes me wish I was more active on my bike. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and a nice loft space upstairs for bigger parties. Brunch is usual fare but with their take on it. I am particularly in love with the salmon eggs benedict... yum. Their cafe drinks are above and beyond, offering unique types and a lot of different combinations of sweeteners. Just a warning, if you don't select a sweetener then it comes with no sugar at all. Looking for brunch, we decided to give this place a shot since we loved Caboose Commons in Merrifield. They only had a few available parking spots but we got lucky and grabbed one of the last ones. They had a bunch of seating and counter space outside but we opted to sit inside to avoid the sweat. We were able to get a table one the spot. They do GoTab ordering so it made things super simple. Wish all places did this. Got the crab hush puppies to share, their goat cheese omelette, a sausage egg and cheese bagel, a blueberry thyme kooler, and an orange ginger fizz. Food and drinks came out really quickly after ordering. Crab hush puppies were so soft and had a nice sauce on the side. Good amount of crab. The omelette had a little too much goat cheese for me but was cooked perfectly. Sandwich was pretty decent, standard bagel sandwich but satisfying enough. The blueberry thyme kooler wasn't really for me, a little too sour but the orange ginger fizz was refreshing and a great compliment. This is a tavern and brewery that has fine dining options! It's a brunch spot, lunch spot, telework spot, meet up on the bike path spot, and even a dinner spot. Caboose is versatile in its beers, food and coffee! I was so suprised to see they have so many brunch options and can be a spot to grab a coffee an do some work (.... before it's 5 o'clock somewhere!). This is the best "all around spot" to grab a drink, whether it be coffee or a beer, and meet up! I ordered the Autumn Salad with fried chicken and literally exclaimed "there's chocolate on my salad!" I may or may not have picked a lot off and ate it first haha! Honestly, I didn't want this salad to end. It was perfect. The flavor combinations are not typically something you would see at a brewery and I was over the moon happy! COVID modifications were outstanding. You can order from your table and the beers come out almost immediately. The servers were friendly and funny. I was able to see some wildlife from the table and there's ample outdoor seating. Whether you roll up on a bike or in a car this place is worth spending some time at. This place used to be great a few months ago, but it appears to have replaced the kitchen staff with amateurs. The eggs Benedict now come with a strange jarred hollandaise sauce that literally looks like nacho cheese. It was disgusting. It's clear they are implementing cost cutting measures based on the sudden decline of food quality and also shift to a la carte everything. Menu accessible by QR code states it charges mandatory 15% surcharge on all orders. I have no idea what is supposed to be the "tipping" protocol under these rules. Was service so bad, or customers so shady, that it became necessary to transfer the restaurant's problems onto all customers? Supposedly some server eventually brings your food whenever they get around to it. I was going to go along with it that one time since we were already there. But could not find any beverages on menu except coffee and alcoholic drinks. Never was greeted or saw any staff in large outdoor dining area. Nobody else there had any food. If all they are offering now is essentially on-site carry-out, I'm never going back. I suppose I could have gone inside and complained. But that's not how I ever want to have to begin a restaurant dining experience. What an absolutely horrible business model. Maybe they are having trouble keeping server staff. What does that say about their ability to keep kitchen staff? With this, they will also have trouble keeping customers. I left angry and hungry. read more

An upscale brew pub (actually Tavern) located at the end of a warehouse district in Vienna with decent craft beers and surprisingly great food. A bunch of us wanted to get together for some beer and fellowship during the week so we decided to visit and based on the experience, I would visit again. The selection of beer is good and tasty, and the food selection and cuisine is awesome. The kitchen (yes kitchen) and not food truck produces some awesome food. From pork belly, chicken wings...delicious. The presentation (yes presentation) is one that you would find in a restaurant and not expect in a brewery. Not a typical brewery/pub as it seems a bit "upscale" from the typical warehouse brewery with more than utilitarian décor. Located right off a bike trail (W&OD Trail) in addition to the inside of the brewery, there is also tables and chairs outside where folks with bicycles can enjoy the beer, food, and relax. I don't know I would be able to continue biking after imbibing some great beer and food. As you drive through the houses of the upscale houses in Vienna, you are wondering if you are going to the right place...you end up in a warehouse district and at the end is Caboose. This place is great! Most of the beers tried were good and true to the styles. The ambiance is cool and the staff is friendly. The food and drinks are all ordered through their website electronically which is both good and bad. It's nice to limit contact and makes it easy to pay and leave. However if you have any questions or special requests you have to find someone to ask. There is a patio outside with tables but they are a bit closer together. The inside has tall ceilings and tables are spread out. They have a nice menu and much better than any brewery I have been to. We ate some delicious food such as the pork belly. My only complaint is there were items in the food that is not mentioned in the menu. I ordered the gnocchi with pulled chicken but it had a bunch of mushrooms in it. My husband got the pub burger which had mustard. The crab hush puppies had some spicy heat to it and I didn't taste any crab. The croissant was delicious and unfortunately was too full for dessert but they had some gelatos and such. This is a really cool place for beer and food. It is off the w&od trail. Parking is a bit annoying. However it is kid-friendly with a family bathroom which has a changing table. They also have high chairs and booster seats available. Well we tried to get service on site at this place. Barry was told to take a seat and snaps a photo for the QR code and they would be right with us. I struggled with my phone and started to order. I turned around and noticed that there were many customers attempting to do what I was doing and shaking their heads. No food on the tables, even the the menu asked if the table wanted water. Barry approached the counter, they told him to go back to his seat and order from the QR code which I still was attempting to do. I came here for breakfast. They open at 8 AM and close 12 AM almost every day. I was surprised to see so many people eating breakfast at 8:30 AM on a Saturday morning. The inside is very nice with cute lighting. We were able to sit wherever we wanted with a nice view of the W&OD trail. We ordered through the QR codes on the table and the food and drinks were delivered directly to us. We got the cold brew and latte. The cold brew was good and fresh. I really like the sour taste in coffee. I wish I added some vanilla or caramel flavoring to give it more taste. The latte had enough milk that it did not need any flavoring. We got the chicken biscuit which was amazing for $7. The chicken was crispy and fresh. It was a large chicken breast. The biscuit was also homemade and super fresh. The egg was a nice touch but in my opinion not worth the extra $3. We also got the kids pancakes which were gigantic for $6. I added chocolate chunks which were nice for a small fee. The sausage was not worth the additional $3. You are probably better off ordering a side of sausage which I believe comes with 2 patties for the same price. The service here was truly above and beyond, phenomenal. Let's get into the drinks and food though! Apart from fabulous service, they also serve up amazing food! My boyfriend and I ordered a side of fries, mac and cheese, and the pretzel to share. Everything came out piping hot and delicious! The mac and cheese had a crispy crust with lots of gooey cheese and it wasn't too sharp either, just perfect. The fries were perfectly crispy and the ketchup was actually my favorite part because I could tell it was fresh not from a bottle! Now the pretzel. That baby was dense, but in a good way! The person who waited on us seems like the manager and he did not smile, did not engage and was a bit curt when dealing with us but he might have been having a bad day. We sat outdoors on the patio on the high tops, which was decorated like nicely with lights. The tavern is literally right off of the W&D trail - great pit stop for those who may be running/biking. Ordering and paying was all done via the QR code. They had many choices of beer, I got a flight of their witbier, blackberry gose, Pilsner, and hazy IPA. All were delicious and flavorful. We ordered small bites to eat including the OG Mac & cheese side, and the pretzel. The pretzel was actually a huge portion, definitely a good size app to share. I came here for breakfast/brunch with 2 friends on a Saturday morning in August 2021. We had been walking 2 dogs along the bike trail and all of us (including the dogs) were pretty hungry and thirsty when we got to Caboose. It wasn't too busy when we arrived around 9:15 AM, and we were able to grab a table in the outdoor seating area. It had stormed the night before so the outdoor furniture was a bit damp, but the friendly server who welcomed us kindly wiped everything down before we settled in, and anyways it was already a hot morning. The server also immediately got the dogs a big bowl of water, which was very much appreciated. One of my friends got a bacon + egg + cheese biscuit while the other got the yogurt parfait, the latter of which I also ordered. I also got an unsweetened cold brew with oat milk. Due to Covid-19 safety measures, the menu was accessible via QR code and orders were taken directly through the same code / menu site. The granola came with a generous amount of berries and the granola was really tasty. My friend and I thought it could benefit from the addition of chia seeds but were nevertheless happy with our order. My other friend loved his biscuit, which was served with a side salad. The biscuit was aptly served with cutlery since it could get messy (but I think that's a sign of a good biscuit). The cold brew was really good and the oat milk was served on the side, which was handy for controlling how much you wanted in the drink. My granola + coffee came out to around $12 after service, tax & tip, which was for me pretty much expected in the Vienna area. Stopped by with friends after paintball. This was my first time at this Caboose location (and first time having food at either). Hot damn, the food impressed everyone. My burger with sweet potato fries was amazing -- they had a venison option that I'll have to try next time. My girlfriend had the fried chicken sandwich with one of their hot sauces -- it was fantastic, albeit prob too hot for me to enjoy. What a pleasant surprise! I wasn't expecting to have a good food experience at a brewery. I don't drink beer so I didn't come here for that reason, but met up with a friend who had previously raved about this place. I will say the experience didn't start out great because I drove around for 15 minutes trying to find a parking spot. They have a limited amount of reserved spots so you have to either get lucky or stake out for when a spot opens up (...or take a chance and tour car may or may not get towed). We finally got our spot and was seated upstairs. The place is really cute, clean, and modern. Their menu has a lot of small plate options to share. We went with the pork belly, gnocchi, shrimp and grits, and chicken liver. My favorite was the gnocchi, but I would definitely recommend all of the dishes. Besides the parking situation, the other thing that slightly annoyed me was when we asked for a few more crackers for our chicken liver, and they charged us for it. I made a reservation using their Yelp Reservations! The place is super cute! The parking is limited though. They sit off the W&OD Trail, most of their clientele were within walking/biking distances. I liked the rustic, industrial expression of design, fixtures and serving plates. There is a patio that was puppy friendly with a lot of bikers, runners and walkers filling it. Inside, we waited to check-in for our reservation. Side-Note, this is a brewery; there isn't really a "separate dinning" area that is set aside from the normal brewery feel of tall ceilings and loud echoing, single open shared space, that you get from going to a brewery. We were seated and given menus. Our server was very cherry and welcoming! She brought us water that was room temp, poured from a refilled wine shaped bottle. While we had her, we asked for a sampler of beers so we could decide on what food to have. We also asked if one of the small plates could be made without an ingredient. When the beer flight was delivered by her, she had forgotten to ask about the small plate; placed the beers down, apologized and ran back to the kitchen. We were thirsty at this point and had already decided on another dish during the wait, so we started drinking our flight. When she returned, we thanked her for checking, however we had already decided on our dish during the wait of the beer flight. We ordered the chef choice board ($22), where the chef chooses two cheeses for you and one of the meats for you. Out of the three choices of meat they had, you automatically get the Ham as one and have once choice between the salmon and the pate. Since we were originally going to order the salmon and pate, we ordered a side order of the pate ($7) and choose the salmon for the board. When the dishes came out, we received 2 orders of pate, ham and two cheeses. We were delicate with drinking our samplers so that we could reserve it to meld with our dish. Meanwhile, I couldn't hear my date talk. I simply stared at him attempting to read his lips, meanwhile my eyes wandering over to the joggers that were sitting on the table tops on the patio and a child to the left of our table banging, constantly, on the huge glass window that over looked the patio. We found our server and exclaimed how we didn't get the salmon we had ordered. She was very apologetic and said that she would go to the kitchen to clear it up. She checked on us when the salmon came out and we each ordered a beer. The beer took a very long time to come to the table. When it arrived, I was close to being finished with our food, and my date had already called it quits. Also, by the time she came back with my beer, she exclaimed that they didn't have the beer he had ordered. Not sure why it took that long to determine they didn't have it. We put the credit card out right after his new beer was delivered. Another 10 minutes or so went by and we grabbed our waitress who as she was walking to the table to the left of us to hand her the card for the check we had not received yet. Overall our dinner was an hour and half, with most of it waiting. I think the concept of the brewery is really cool and even mentioned to my date that we should bike/jog here for a pint. I really enjoyed the cheeses, pate and salmon; but I DID NOT enjoy it in an environment where I couldn't even hear my date talk to me or myself think. If the restaurant part of this brewery was secluded and quieter, without LARGE distractions, I could see us paying those prices again. I was on a lunch break from my 12 hour shift, and left this "date-night" feeling drained, when I had come here to relax. If you enjoy specially crafted Beers, they have a wide variety to choose from. The cider, I really enjoyed, as it is not you're typically over sweetened "mead-like" cider. It was very refreshing, crisp and apple-puck like. I also really enjoyed the Darkened Heart beer! Throwing another review in the hat for Caboose. Here goes. Well, this place lives up to the hype. What hype? The hype of being a legit parlor for the beverage connoisseur. The hype of being a delicious food joint. The hype of being dog-friendly and bike-friendly and even kid-friendly for all the hikers who made the trek from the W&OD trail. The hype of being hipster. And the hype of being expensive. So here goes my nitty gritty criticism: the brunch prices are outrageous for what it is. The breakfast potatoes (pic is deceiving. It's actually served in a mini skillet smaller than your hand) really consist of one total chopped potato and a quarter green pepper. You tell me if this is worth the $7 price tag. I found myself wanting more sauce on my fried chicken sandwich; it was a tad on the dry side. Hollandaise sauce was sparse on the benedict. The mixed drinks were way way more than we wanted to spend. And the concept of sharing small plates gets lost on me when the portions are this small. Seriously. But it was all delicious. Nothing compares to a crisp Bramblin Man drank on a sunny day. The salmon on the benedict melted in your mouth. The panko crusted fried chicken was outstanding. Grits were to die for good. Service was good and the bike racks were convenient for us to stow away while we stopped in. Bottom line: the real estate of this spot is amazing. After being told that there would be a 45 minute wait, I ordered drinks at the bar and 10 minutes later, I had to quickly close out as our table was ready. Curious by the diverse menu, my fiancee and I ordered our usual feast sampling a variety of dishes. Most of the dishes missed the mark and doused in oil. While I appreciated the uniqueness of the Singaporean noodles, they were quite oily. The mac and cheese was hands down the WORST mac and cheese I've ordered. The "oven-baked" mac and cheese was so bad that a film of cheese started separating from the pasta. I honestly was ready to send it back when my fiancee had to stop me. The roasted beet salad was a sad sad salad. The ingredients were poorly thrown together without much flavor. I don't expect a 5 star salad at a brewery, but it was quite underwhelming. I enjoyed the crispy brussell sprouts and hand-cut fries. The sriracha aioli dipping sauce was heavenly and perfectly complemented the fries. I enjoyed the Bramblin' Man cocktail with vodka, lemon, and blackberry and lavender syrup. It was a well-balanced with a hint of sweetness. I wasn't a fan of the House Red and a Spanish wine that I ordered. As I always save room for dessert (with this meal, it wasn't an issue), the Bourbon Apple Cinnamon Gelato was the highlight of the meal. I'm not a fan of gelato, but the flavor was so rich and complex that I savored every bite. My fiancee enjoyed the root beer float. Nice to see a throwback dessert on the menu. Glad the meal ended on a high note. Next time, I'm going to skip dinner here. I would come back for some fries, drinks, and let's not forget...dessert! read more

Grabbed a quick bite and a beer while visiting friends in Vienna. I don't think we would have found this place without their knowing about it. It's tucked away in a business plaza off the main drag, with a decent amount of parking on site. We opted to sit outside, but the inside looked fun as well - pretty classic brewpub feeling throughout. We received friendly service - though you order via your phone on an app and they bring everything out to you. The menu had some vegetarian options, and the beer was good too. After you can walk it off right from the restaurant on the walking & biking trail. read more
