Given the long wait and the herds of people packed like sardines, I felt like the food didn't quite live up to the hype. It's really a hit or a miss. After being told that there would be a 45 minute wait, I ordered drinks at the bar and 10 minutes later, I had to quickly close out as our table was ready. Curious by the diverse menu, my fiancee and I ordered our usual feast sampling a variety of dishes. Most of the dishes missed the mark and doused in oil. While I appreciated the uniqueness of the Singaporean noodles, they were quite oily. The mac and cheese was hands down the WORST mac and cheese I've ordered. The "oven-baked" mac and cheese was so bad that a film of cheese started separating from the pasta. I honestly was ready to send it back when my fiancee had to stop me. The roasted beet salad was a sad sad salad. The ingredients were poorly thrown together without much flavor. I don't expect a 5 star salad at a brewery, but it was quite underwhelming. I enjoyed the crispy brussell sprouts and hand-cut fries. The sriracha aioli dipping sauce was heavenly and perfectly complemented the fries. I enjoyed the Bramblin' Man cocktail with vodka, lemon, and blackberry and lavender syrup. It was a well-balanced with a hint of sweetness. I wasn't a fan of the House Red and a Spanish wine that I ordered. As I always save room for dessert (with this meal, it wasn't an issue), the Bourbon Apple Cinnamon Gelato was the highlight of the meal. I'm not a fan of gelato, but the flavor was so rich and complex that I savored every bite. My fiancee enjoyed the root beer float. Nice to see a throwback dessert on the menu. Glad the meal ended on a high note. Next time, I'm going to skip dinner here. I would come back for some fries, drinks, and let's not forget...dessert! read more

Who knew a brewery could be so family and kid friendly? I love Caboose Commons so much that I had to give this place another try. The place is filled with infants, toddlers and kids at 5 pm. Our little one wasn't the only little one dining there. She loved how the neighboring tables also had little people, just like her. The menu changes throughout the seasons. And I can say the food is a hit or miss. I've had delicious and some not so good dishes. This time around, I am in love with their pumpkin fettuccine. The house made pasta is al dente with a creamy sauce that is better with pumpkin purée and pumpkin seeds. Our little one could not stop eating it too! The duck quarter confit had meaty duck with crispy skin. But the wheat berry salad was way too salty. I appreciate a kids menu and our little one's mac & cheese was good. We all shared the zucchini fries, which were fried lightly crispy and an excellent way to convince our little one to eat more vegetables/fruits (culinary vs botanical)? Everything about this place is rustic, hipster and gives off all the good vibes. They are known for their beer which did not disappoint. I have moved from a wine drinker to more of a beer drinker, thanks to my hubby. We had the butter beer and it was sweet, tangy, refreshing, minty, and creamy at the same time. It's tucked away in a business plaza off the main drag, with a decent amount of parking on site. This is absolutely the greatest brewery I have ever been to!!! It's very decorative and will lighten up your day the second you walk in. They have quite fast service, and for fresh food. I feel like they just have everything out, and make it in a matter of minutes! Let alone their amazing customer service. If you don't want to come here, you're crazy. read more

We had a reservation for brunch and were seated earlier than our reservation time, which was awesome. Once we were seated that was the extent of it. We weren't greeted and explained the process. I had to stop a gentleman to ask how everything worked. He explained that we scan the QR code, we can order from the app, or receive service from him. I understand the concept is to create a simple and fast ordering experience, however; no one asked us if we had any questions about the menu, nor did we get water for the water glasses we started with. The food came out shortly after ordering it through the app. As the food came out, we weren't asked if we needed anything, therefore I had to get up from the table and ask a gentleman if we could get water and I also needed hot sauce. I ordered a Latte with Almond Milk and added Vanilla, it was delicious! For brunch my husband and I ordered the Mac n cheese, Caboose Hash, Chicken Sandwich, and the Bourbon French Toast to share. The portion size on the Mac n Cheese and Caboose Hash is rather small, so I suggest ordering something else with it. The Mac n Cheese had a white cheddar taste, I was not a fan of this dish. I ended up adding hot sauce to it which made it taste a bit better. The Caboose Hash was good, the potatoes weren't too crispy and perfectly cooked. The Chicken Sandwich is packed with flavor and somewhat spicy, I enjoyed this. The Bourbon French Toast was sweet, crunchy on the outside, and gooey on the inside. It was delicious! I do recommend the food, but the initial experience with figuring out the ordering process was not good. This brewery is right off the W&OD bike trail and was the perfect spot to stop and fuel up! We biked here from the trailhead on a chilly fall day and had a delicious brunch in the outdoor area under the heaters. I had the hash and an IPA and both were fantastic. This is a review of their breakfast service and not a reflection of the entire brewery. The croissant sandwich was a 5 out of 5. The biscuit, sausage gravy with added chicken was 3 out of 5 due to the biscuit being over baked and extra sausage gravy needed to be ordered to cover the chicken. The pancakes were a 2 out of 5 as they had a flavor that didn't jive. The bacon was nice and crisp. The made to order eggs, sausage and biscuit (again over baked) was average for a 3 out of 5. The side order of potato hash and sausage was spicy & tasty and well deserving of a 4 out of 5. Our waiter was super nice and on point for a 5 out of 5. As we were presented the handheld payment device our waiter advised we were already charged a 15% tip. Furthermore, he stated that 15% is added to all checks. Something we didn't know yesterday night when we were there for just drinks. I would have liked to have given a 20% but was flustered by the automatic added tip and annoyed that I tipped twice last night. Happened upon this place after grocery shopping when we were looking for a place for brunch. The parking can be a bit of a pain, but it's worth it! Don't try and park behind the building as there isn't much, but if you come to the front side, there is ample parking. And you just walk back to the back of the building. Inside is very cute, rustic. Tables and Artwork on the walls. Everything they make is made in house from the beer, food, down to the ketchup and locally printed paper. The food was delicious! I only tried a couple of the half pints of beer, which were good, but didn't get a chance to try the others. Will for sure be coming back when the weather warms up! read more

Caboose Brewing Co. is one of the few VA breweries open late on a Sunday. We got here right before their kitchen closes at 9pm. Their food menu consists of small plates made from ingredients that are locally sourced. I went with the House Smoked Salmon Rillete, which is kind of like a smoked salmon cream cheese blend with some chips. It was pretty good, but we needed more chips. I also had the grass fed strip loin. They didn't ask how we wanted the steak cooked, but it came out perfect and tender. It came with some type of veggie sauce, but it didn't really taste like anything, but the steak didn't need it. The potatoes were really delicious too. They have a good selection of brews. The ones I tried were pretty decent. I like the layout of the brewery. It's very open. There is also outdoor seating. Brewery closes at 11pm. read more

I went to Caboose for lunch for the first time today. My friend and I each ordered a breakfast sandwich & split some fries (yum!) I also got a Cucumber Mojito beer, which was refreshing and delicious! The outdoor seating was nice, clean, and dog friendly. Really my only complaint is the parking situation here. I know many people bike/walk in (because Caboose is off a trail), but it was hard/confusing to find parking. Definitely will be back! read more

I love this place, and think it's a great dining experience in general. Just chiming in that the service fee is a confusing and unwelcome addition. To the owners comment it's in response to the "broken tipping system" - by adding a service fee, but suggesting customers should still tip in addition because of "lower rates" it's just perpetuating the system and making customers feel uncomfortable trying to guess what that additional tip should be. Don't ask customers to tip if you add a service fee, or go European and just raise prices and do away with tipping, period. read more

Also love how dog friendly it is. The prices are a little steep but we're definitely willing to shell put for the chill ambiance, great food, and tasty beer. The only thing I'm not a fan of is their app to order food. Going back will cancel out your entire order so you have to be sure to click on the main menu to go back. Really wonderful service. Great beer. A-OK food. My favorite beer here is their Citra Session IPA. Refreshing and not too hoppy! I also really enjoy their Fog IPA and Pilsner. I feel like the quality of their food has gone down a bit in the last few years. I used to love their pork belly appetizer, but instead of cubes now they're cut in thick slices and less flavorful and crisp on the top. Their burger, spicy chicken sandwich, and mac and cheese are all alright but nothing out of the ordinary. I'd definitely come back for the awesome service and beer but might stick with just their fries or charcuterie for finger foods. Came here for a drink, really cool concept. A warehouse turned brewery, tucked away in the middle of a bike bath. The shop was very reminiscent of back home for me. Oddly enough, I had a bit of a difficult picking a drink. While it wasn't very busy, I felt a little pressured as I took about 2 minutes asking questions about their beers. It seemed, from asking the bartender, that a majority of their beers are hoppy, which I am not particular to. I settled on the Hefeweizen, which was crisp and refreshing. When we went back to our seats, we saw that a few bikers had laid down their things while stopping by. We shared the awkward moment of letting them know that we had put our things down to go order drinks, and they obliged. Overall, a cool concept, with what seemed like a good beer selection (if you are a fan of IPAs/hoppy beers) and a great place to people watch or stop by during bike ride/dog walk. read more

Caboose is one of those establishments that is so much more than a brewpub or restaurant. It's an integral part of the Vienna community! Its wholesome appeal is built on a wonderful variety of home-grown ales, lagers and IPAs, innovative comfort food, community-oriented ambience and socially responsible management & staff. The original location right off the W&OD trail is a goto watering hole for runners, bikers, walkers and just about everyone in Vienna, including four-legged furries (!) especially on the weekends. The second location at Mosaic is a larger, industrial-style bar with an outdoor biergarten. The restaurant is very spacious, but the actual seating is more limited so I would call ahead if it was a weekend evening. Yelp says this is a tapas place but it's really just a normal tavern in my opinion. The food option are pretty interesting, and range from burgers to street noodles. We got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich- it was pretty good but if I got it again I probably would choose the buffalo sauce or plain. The sauce was kind of grainy/thick, but the chicken was fried well. Fries were a bit cold but did taste good. We also got the burger, which was seasoned really well. The pancakes (a brunch item, not on menu but written on the chalkboard) were just plain but if that's what you're looking for it's a standard option. The street noodles were really good but the portion is very small for its price. The pork belly is crispy and would recommend it for people who like the really soft fat part. read more

I liked the beer and the chicken sandwich. My wife thought the steak was bad due to how much fat the sirloin had on it. The charcuterie board was bad. Not sure why anyone would want anise flavored crackers, but if you like black jelly beans then I guess you'd like these crackers. I was quite shocked by the required 15% tip (call it whatever you want it's a tip and if you choose to pay your employees more, then raise your prices to make the economics of your business work, don't tax your customers to cover it) on top of an automatically suggested 22% tip. I regularly tip 20% for normal service, so I was not happy being suggested to tip 37%. This is aggravating considering dishes piled up after eating, water ran dry, and the only service provided was when you orders something else. Definitely won't be back. read more

Wow great place! My first visit...Visited on 21 April 2017 at 1839. Packed restaurant with a 1 hour seating wait. So my friend and I ended up seating at the bar which was fine. If it weren't for my allergies we would have been outside. Outside reminded me of a German beer garden which was cool. Super cool area being that it was a converted industrial complex and by an old railroad line now converted to a bike trail. Enjoyed all the dishes I posted but didn't enjoy the service. Space another wow! Really inviting and open space... The female bar tender was a bit rude and annoyed being there that day. The male bar tenders were about the same. I mentioned it was our first time visiting and each time asked if they had any recommendations on drinks and food, and all she said, "what will you have?" Mind you it was busy dinner service. As we sat and waited for our drinks and food I noticed people asking for samples, would have been nice that was offered while we sat there deciding what to drink. Not very consistent with the service or attentive... Mix the service and food proportions its hard for me to justify revisiting. I had a less than satisfactory experience here. My friend and I came in for breakfast, it was pretty busy. We let the host know that we did not have a reservation. He said they had no tables available, but could seat us at the "railing". No worries. We didn't have a reservation, totally understand that. The railing was right next to the host stand so we watched a family of 6 come in immediately after us and say that they did not have a reservation. They were immediately seated at a table in the upstairs part of the restaurant. I expressed to the host that I was upset, and he said "a table just opened up." Upsetting to say the least. A large group of us came in late on a rainy Saturday evening - about 10:00 pm. There was a decent crowd present enjoying brews. I ordered two flights so I could taste all of their beers. Each flight of four was $10.00. Was not a fan of most of their beers, but I did enjoy the Citra Wheat Ale and most of all - the Ghost Train Pale Ale! The Citra was hoppier than most wheat ales I've had - due to the hops they used in the beer. It verged on the border with an IPA. With the Ghost Train Pale Ale, you start to develop a warm, peppery, spicy feel in the back of your throat - about 10 seconds after taking a drink. But it's not hot. Very nice pint on a cold, rainy evening! The decor of the brewery is inviting - with a decent amount of seating. read more

Beer is OK, about average for a brewery. However that is not the reason for the low rating. I have been there a handful of times and twice to sit down with my wife and child. The first time we tried to order a certain dish and was told we couldn't order that at the time, that it wasn't available until 5pm, it was 4:45pm. I mean come on, it was mac n cheese, how hard would it have been to put the order in. We attempted to go back yesterday for beers and appetizers and was told that the tables were reservation only and the next opening wasn't for 3 hours. First of all, you are a brewpub, not a restaurant. Secondly if you are going to have reserve seating you better be big enough to have ample seating at the bar are, not just standing room. The ONLY brewpub that does reserve seating in the area other than Caboose is Mad Fox, but they have ample bar room seating that is first come first serve and the place is three times the size. There are so many other good brewpubs that aren't full of themselves in the area that I would recommend over Caboose. Here is a list: - Port City - Mad Fox - Ocelot - Old Ox - Lost Rhino - Crooked Run - Loudoun County Brewing - Heritage Brewing This not to mention the 5 ore 6 out in Purcelville.as well as the many new ones coming out each day. Bottom line is Caboose needs to get over itself and be what a brewpub is supposed to be about. Laid back environment with good beer and good conversation with local beer people. So sad that this is the only brewery in Vienna. If you are looking for something down the street instead I recommend the bar at Whole Foods. read more

So this place has an excellent location especially if you are cycling down the Washington and Old Dominion Trail. It's a nice place to stop and get brunch or even grab dinner while burning some calories. They even sell cycling jerseys unfortunately they haven't had my size any of the times I have been there. The staff is friendly though most of the ordering was done via their web application. The prices can be a bit higher than you might expect; however, the quality of the product does mean that you will pay a higher premium. I have eaten both brunch and dinner here and both times left full. Free water on the table was very refreshing and I certainly wouldn't mind hanging out here and drinking some beers with friends. So if you are riding with a group or solo definitely consider stopping here even if it's just for a pint. read more

Our new favorite spot in Vienna. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Excellent service, tasty food, cool set up. We stopped for branch mid week. You have to order ever through the web & pay first. Food arrived very quickly and is very good. We had a burger , opted out of cheese and added bacon ( 5 out of 5), French fries that came with it was so so ( not crispy enough to my taste). An extra order of sweet potato fries with aioli was excellent - crispy on outside, soft inside, right amounting salt/spices (5/5). Chicken wings with my option of Buffalo dressing were fresh and tasty. Coffee ( we tried cold brew and Americano) was excellent. We sat on the side patio but inside is also a safe option - very distanced tables in a huge space. Cool bathrooms with graffiti painted walls. Like the fair wages approach (15% tip is already included in the price of food & staff gets paid $15/hr wage instead of $2 industry standard that relies on tips). What I didn't like is that an extra tip for service that you have an option to add is asked for upfront , at the time of placing an order and before experiencing the service. It is not unique to this place, Unfortunately many places in DMV area are switching to this practice & payment methods.
