Beer selection and taste was great! Food was delicious! Pretty much the only reason for only 3 stars is that the food portions are tiny when compared to the price they are charging. $14 for 2 scallops? Pretty steep. At least label them as small plates so people have a heads-up. I will go back for sure, but probably just for beers before dinner elsewhere. It's a shame because again, everything was really good! I came here mainly for the food and thought I would try the beer while I was at it. The beer is priced very well and it's a huge plus that you don't have to pay for the growler! I got the "zoo" and thought it was decent, an extremely light beer with slight tang and wheat after taste. The chicken pot pie was by far the most disgusting chicken pot pie I've ever had! I don't like them sweet and this one wasn't, but it was just foul. I wasn't expecting the potato soup to be anything like I got, it had such a strange smell and taste to it, almost like fuel. Strangely I kept eating it, but I wouldn't get it again. It was my first time eating brussels sprouts and it had the perfect flavor combination! I really enjoyed the charred flavor combined with the feta and sweet golden raisins. MAC N CHEESE...This was the highlight, by far the best mac n cheese I've had besides my mom's! It wasn't super creamy, it wasn't lacking cheese, and the cheese flavor shined through and wasn't overpowering, but spot on. The sourdough crumbles on top made it perfect! First, I think to call this place a "brewing company" is a misnomer. It's a terrific american-style tapas restaurant that just also happens to brew good beer. My wife and started with a butcher board and sampled a few different things, and enjoyed everything. I'm struck by just how inventive the menu is and imagine we could go back several times without repeating ourselves. Parking is a bit difficult, but other than that, it's a true gem. The key here is to know what to expect. 1. Atmosphere. Brewerie vibe, but slightly higher end. Lots of cyclists coming off the trail which runs nearby. Good views of trail. 2. Beer. Solid, not the best, not the worst. Prices as expected. 3. Food. Here is what's different -- better or worse depends on your preference. Small plate concept, meaning small potions in exchange for higher quality. The quality is higher than typical, but there ain't much food, so plan accordingly with your order. 4. Service. As noted, there have been issues, but you can just as easily get good service as bad. Front of the house does need to up the game given the food concept and price. Final thoughts. It's a nice place to get a few beers, maybe coming off trail, and the food is good. Different than almost every other place in the area and that makes it worth supporting. read more

This is obviously a trendy place. We took a group of six, with reservations. Were seated immediately, server was promptly there. The problem arose when it became obvious that he was eager, friendly, but less than competent. Entrees were brought out cold, but over cooked. My husband and I ordered small plates as entrees, but they were delivered as appetizers. A side salad that was ordered never came. Maybe we hit this place on a bad night, but I see no reason to return. read more

I may be somewhat picky but I have been to 50-60 breweries and many have 4 or 5oz individual tasters priced between $1.50 and $2. I recently went to Caboose for lrunch with my family and was elated to find a table with our name on it -- literally, my name was written on a little chalkboard on the table, just waiting for us. The food was incredible -- I still dream about the buffalo chicken sandwich -- and the beer was good and diverse enough to make even finicky beer drinkers happy. The place was very kid-friendly, with coloring menus and not-your-average-kids-meals -- including hand-made chicken tenders with rosemary. I continue to wish that the restaurant and brewery had more outdoor seating, but cannot complain about the fantastic experience we had inside at lunch. read more

I really like this tucked away gem but my most recent visit during the dinner time, the food was not quite up to the normal standards, especially for the price. The rice in the risotto was not cooked properly but the wait staff was great and overall enjoyed my experience. Parking is always a little dicey but you can normally park in other business spots without getting towed if after work hours. Still love the character and atmosphere of Caboose but just wish it had more lunch time hours so I could share with my co- workers. read more

Great place. Portions are small but very flavorful and tasty. They also have good outdoor space that's dog friendly with a lot of potential. This is one of the newer and trendier watering holes in Vienna. I'm Vienna born and raised, so I'm hard wired to love the Vienna Inn - the town's de facto watering hole. But if you are looking for a bit more flavor in both your beer and food, try Caboose. The beer was pretty good. I tried the Berliner Weise (good), the Ghost Train Pale Ale (good), and the Vanilla Bean Hobo Imperial Stout (very good). Also, they have some decent food accompaniments, some of which are much better versions of the typical beer food you get served at places like these - meat and cheese. Admittedly, I only tried a few bites from a couple platters, The Millwood Springs Organic Blue & The Firefly Farms Cabra La Mancha, but they were all good. If you're going on a Friday or Saturday and planning to eat, get a reservation. There aren't many tables, and it's mainly standing room. There's also cool outdoor picnic table seating area. Good beer, great food, fun place to spend a nice afternoon, but the service was lacking when we were there a couple Sundays ago. Most of the servers kept their heads down and it was impossible to get their attention, not the friendliest bunch except for one guy who we encountered late in our visit who was great. (i.e.: Bartender didn't know if they were serving appetizers at the bar because the kitchen hadn't decided as of yet) The beers were middle of the road and extremely heavy in after taste. My son got food poisoning here. Decided to give it one more try. We were told it might be a 30 minute wait and no more than 45 minutes. We checked back with the hostess at 50 minutes and again when it went over an hour. There has been a reserved table sitting open during the whole time. 2 tables finally opened. A 6 person table and a 4 person table. They wanted to sit us at the 6 people table with another couple. So we left. Go somewhere else read more

Great beer, nice space, love that they have embraced their W&OD proximity. Caboose is local, friendly, and they do an excellent job with their beer. The food is where they fall a bit short. Here's my suggestion to the Caboose folks - drop the fancy menu items and stick to pub food. You're a brewery. You're not the Spotted Pig. Nobody is expecting you to compete for a James Beard Award. I don't want wild mushrooms and arctic char with my beer. I want pub food--greasy, heavy pub food--and I want it done really well. Yes, you've got a burger, great, but let's expand on that a bit. The alternative, I guess, is to get your current offerings sorted. For lack of a better description, they're just not that good, especially at $20+ a plate. I want to keep coming back for the beer, but I'll look elsewhere for dinner unless Caboose figures out exactly what it wants to be. read more

Sorry, doesn't live up to the hype. Granted, we had a large group (9), and it is a brewery, but based on the prices and reviews I expected much more. Three servings of eggs Benedict came under cooked and cold. The cob salid was rediculously small, a wedge of head lettuse and token dabs of toppings. Plates came to the table sporadically with one coming after everyone's entrees had been cleared leaving the guest rushing to eat while everyone else watched. Beer was good though. $7 for a 12 IPA??? Bottomline, go for the beer! read more

Everything about this place is quality. The beers are diverse with some unique selections. The food is farm to table and so delicious. And the staff is friendly and helpful. I was talking with my kids, telling them I had to hop off because my battery was almost dead, when all of a sudden a charger appeared, Cade if the bartender! I came for brunch with my family on the weekend. Almost everything we had was very tasty--especially the sweet potato hash. We did not enjoy the egg Benedict as the IPA hollandaise was altogether too strongly flavored and took over the whole dish. We mentioned this to our server who unfortunately did not offer to remedy the problem. While the other dishes were tasty, the brunch menu is served as (very) small plates yet priced as main plates. For the price especially the small plates were too small and not so conducive to sharing (it's difficult to split a tiny plate that has only one poached egg on it, for example). Some of the dish descriptions could be improved (a "bok choy salad" does not two thin pieces of bok choy stem artfully-stacked make). read more

So excited for the opening of Caboose! Went there tonight for dinner and drinks. The official opening is next week, but we were lucky enough to participate in the test run. We had the pork belly, a cheeseburger, the beer sampler, and the cider. Everything was great! We especially liked the pork belly. We love this brew pub and it is just what Vienna needed. It is located in the industrial section of Mill Street, just down the street from the caboose that it is named after. It is decorated in a rustic industrial fashion and it looks like they continue to add items to the wall. I noticed a large mural on the wall the last time we were there. The beer is great and they have a wide selection to choose from. They brew all the beer on site and you can see the brewing equipment in the back through the large windows. I always seem to order the Citra Wheat because I love the grapefruit notes. My husband is always trying new beers and really likes them all. I also love the food - it is really good quality and is locally sourced and organic when available. We have tried the butcher board with cheese and pate. The crackers are made from spent grains from the brewing process - yummy and clever! The kale salad is delicious! The cauliflower is amazing! We always order some fries and they do not disappoint. The fries are served with mustard and homemade ketchup. I have also ordered the shrimp and grits and it was so good. Do not expect giant portions of food. They focus on the quality of the food and the preparation, not huge quantities of mass-produced food. It is worth it. We love and have become regulars. read more

I got shrimp and grits and it had 2 shrimps for $13, the short ribs should be called short rib because that's all the meat you got for $12. Located right off of the WO&D trail and in the industrial part of Vienna, this place has a solid beer selection (try the citra wheat, saison or the Russian imperial stout). The quality of the food is high but it's served tapas style and the entrees seemed more like snacks or side dishes (mac and cheese, kale salad, brussels sprouts and a chicken pot pie that reminded me of the microwavable single-server variety). I'll be back. Seems like a nice spot to stop for after a bike ride or a run. read more

Great beer and food. This will definitely be one of my go to breweries. However, we took 2 growlers and they failed to fill them properly. Both of them were not filled to the top with perhaps 4 - 6 oz. Short. Kinda kills the purpose of taking a growler since the air starts oxidizing the beer and makes taste flat.
