I should have searched here first before I brought in my well loved, beloved, well worn hiking boots. The heel had started to disintegrate and the sole stitching somewhat broken. An internet search wielded this place as a master boot repairer (NOT!). The boots were womens and what he did was repurpose a man's replacement on to them. Not only are they SO much heavier now (if any of you are hikers you will understand) and the heel is off center and higher to than it was. Admire the crappy workmanship handiwork repair in the pictures. Like others here I went in the following week when he said they would be ready and he had not even started on them. He made me pay upfront and in hindsight I believe he knew that he was not going to repair them accordingly. Loss of time and money and ruined my beloved boots. No stars if I could but needed 1 to post. Don't go here, it's really not worth it. Now I have to find new hiking boots and break them in after spending $70 here for nothing. read more

I just wasted $171 on this fraudster. This "cobbler" is a fraudster. His E-Commerce website advertises they specialize in Ecco, Mephisto and Birkenstock shoe repairs. When I called to dispute the quality of repair, he was very defensive and said "Ecco shoes are very bad shoes". Then why did he have me photograph them and email the pictures to him to decide whether he could effect repair ahead of time? Steer clear of this jokester. He takes no pride in his work! read more

Don't get me wrong: This is America, so you have the right to be gratuitously rude to a customer from the first moment he enters your store, even though he has treated you with nothing but politeness and respect. You have the right to charge high prices; you even have the right to *raise* those high prices well after the customer has left the shoes in your care and it is too late for that customer to take them to anyone else. And of course, you have the right to be grumpy and contemptuous when that customer returns to collect his shoes and pay his bill without complaint, or even comment. I brought in a pair of shoes and a pair of boots to be re-soled. Both Timberlands, great shoes that I loved but we're no longer wearable. Both pairs came out almost better than new, in durability and aesthetics. He went out of his way to find the perfect soles for my shoes. Done in just a few days, $50 and $65 to add another 10-15 years to shoes that I love. Maybe he comes off as a little brusque, but you don't find many old school cobblers anywhere, and this guy loves his work. read more

This was the worst customer service experience of my life. Lowlight: the owner literally getting on his knees and sardonically "begging" for my forgiveness, after i asked him to remove the wrong colored shoe polish, which had dramatically altered the color, he had used on my boots. Furthermore, I had to ask him to please stop shouting at me, noting that i wasn't raising my voice. I took two pairs of shoes here to be resoled. One was a pair of timberland chelsea boots, and the other a pair of italian loafers. Pretty much everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. The quality of the work was poor, they changed the color of the boots by using the wrong color polish, the soles they chose for the boots had no tread, the owner was unbelievably rude, and the older man behind the counter can't speak a single word of English. Best Resole ever. I live in Oakland CA and needed my Teva sandals resoled. Most places won't do a Resole on them. Took a chance and sent them to Cabot Resole. Also had new Velcro put on. The Teva's are now better than new. Way better. The Resole will last years, where the Teva's soles were becoming unglued, I think this is a recurring problem with Teva's, the resole is quite solid. Used them during a photo shoot out here on some farms and they worked out just fine. Will be sending Viktor some dress shoes for resole. read more

Viktor at Cabot Resole and Repair is a master at his trade. He breathes life back into your favorite shoes. I brought in a pair of leather boots for new heels. Viktor repaired the heels and also replaced the soles for no more than his original estimate!! Shoe repair is a rare and dying skill and Viktor takes great pride is the work he does. Very polite man. Do NOT go here. I brought several pairs of shoes, a bag and several belts here. When I went to go pick them up, they had lost one of my belts and were very unapologetic. They did not offer any sort of refund or even seem like they were making an effort to look for the belt. I will reiterate the other reviews on here- I'd give a 0 star review if I could. I brought in $300 leather boots to be polished, painted, and the zipper fixed and was told to pick them up in a week. When I returned the week later, the owner had forgotten about them and told me to come back the following week. This was frustrating as I had needed them for that weekend, but ok- I'm an understanding person and didn't make any big deal about this. Then, when I returned the following week, the owner couldn't find my boots and had me pick them out of his collection. When he was ringing my card up for payment I was inspecting the boots as the color seemed off and what had previously been smooth leather, was now bumpy. I asked questions about aftercare when the man started yelling at me telling me he does the best work and that he repaired the boots at a cheap price and it usually costs a lot more. I explained I was simply asking questions about aftercare when he proceeded to yell at me. I have never been so poorly treated at any place of business. And my boots look horrible- I am so angry! Do not go here and tell your family and friends to stay away from here if you want your shoes back in decent condition. read more

I went here for a very simple thing; to get shoe polish for a pair of blue Cole Haan shoes and by the time it was over I was nearly in a fist fight with this guy. I'm no doctor, but he may be psychotic. He wouldn't work on my shoes until I identified the exact manufacturer's color (Peacoat Blue);he told me to pick them up Wednesday and when I showed at 10:00, he said pick ups could not take place until after 1:00 even though they done and on the counter. When I told him he had a lot of rules for a shoe repair place, he threw my money back at me while screaming how tough Russians are. Entirely entertaining but highly questionable customer service. I have tried to look past the proprietor's rudeness, as I like to support small businesses and like the "old" feel of the shop. When I dropped off my shoes last week to be repaired he told me that I walk funny and I had to beg him to resole one pair of boots, as he told me that they were cheap and not worth wearing. After this latest experience, I will not give him my business again. Today this guy refused to sell me shoelaces and ended up yelling at me. As I was looking at his shoelace rack (I keep forgetting to buy a simple pair of laces for some Converse tennis shoes when I am in places like Target), he yelled that I needed to tell him the size of the shoe before he would let me purchase the laces. I tried to explain it to him, and he began shouting that I didn't know what I was talking about. I told him that I would get the shoelaces elsewhere and he told me not to bother if I didn't know what I needed as it wouldn't fit anyway. I attempted to explain again, and he began huffing then stomped around the counter and grabbed a pair of laces specifically meant for men's black dress shoes (I had already told him that they were for a women's size 9) and yelled "give me $3." I told him that I would get the laces elsewhere, and he yelled at me again, saying, "finally you and I agree on something. Now go." I literally thought I might start crying. I have never thought this guy did outstanding work, but it was good enough in the past. The rudeness combined with semi-shoddy work is definitely not worth it. read more

I also agree. Do not go here! I made the mistake of going back after they messed up a pair of very nice boots I had. They guy assured me when I brought them back to have them fix that he's been in the biz for 35 years and that he never makes mistakes like that. So, I brought him two pairs of heels. Firstly, they weren't done on the day he had promised. Secondly, he lost BOTH pairs and made me scour the store looking for them and accused me of not knowing what my own shoes looked like. Thirdly, he assumed I wanted one pair stretched instead of repairing the heal. I think part of the problem may be due to the fact that the guy speaks very little English, but honestly, if you're going to own a run a business, you'd better be able to communicate with your clients. read more

This guy is nuts. He forgets what work he has done. And above all will charge you extra for work he feels deserves more after he has been paid. I gave him a bag to fix the handle. He charged me $28 dollars , for simple stitches. Stated it was a demanding work given the leather material. He asked to be paid up front which i obliged. On return to pick up, he first couldn't remember what work he did, reminded him and pointed out the job. He now states he polished d bag and was finding things to justify an additional $15 dollar! I simply asked him please tell me what happened and he went ballistic that i don't want to pay him, saying usually people just pay him without questions if he states so. I told him i have no issues if u would please tell me exactly what happened its only principle and lets me appreciate your extra effort. But he was so convinced i don't want to pay him cos i asked and became abusive! what a jerk. I will never see this place again. Advice if u have no other place, don't pay him up front cos u will run the risk of additional charges later. Terrible, TERRIBLE service. The manager was extremely unapologetic and couldn't find my boots for a solid 15 minutes. Upon finding them, I saw that despite my specific request for them not to be polished, he did polish them. When I commented on this, he began to use profanity and slurs that went unchecked by his co-workers. He told me to go somewhere else to get my boots repaired next time. I didn't need him to tell me that. I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE who wants to keep their boots/shoes in good condition and would like to receive nice treatment by the staff. read more

Bad craft practices combined with a bad attitude resulted in him destroying a great pair of shoes. New sole on one shoe lasted 1 1/2 day before sole covering parted. This guy is color blind. I brought in an expensive pair of Fly London boots to be polished and cleaned up. Black leather uppers and tan soles. He spray painted the soles an awful red color and when I complained he showed me a can of spray polish called "London Tan". And he obviously sprayed this on AFTER he had polished the black so you can see where he missed! He said I was trouble from the beginning when he seems not to know what the color tan means! If I could give 0 stars or negative I would. I brought in two pairs of sandals to be repaired, one for my mother and one for me. Mine were Chloe leather sandals, which are not cheap. More than $500. The vendor had glued the leather straps together and the adhesive had come off and now the straps were in two pieces. I showed the owner and he said 'for a little more money I can make this nice for you.' He planned to sew the straps together rather than glue them. He charged me $40 which is pricey, I have quite the shoe collection and get shoes repaired all the time, but usually in Seattle, WA through nordstrom, as that is where I have been living for the past 3 years. I gave him a $20 deposit and agreed to come pick them up Friday. He wrote on the ticket that I had paid him $20 and owed him another $26 ($6 for my mother's shoes and $20 for the rest of mine). I came Friday and first he couldn't find shoes. I found them for him. Then when I took out cash to pay the $26 he said I owed him $20. I wasn't about to argue with him, as I am about to be a poor graduate student moving to italy. He rudely said 'you rich people don't even know how much money you are paying.' I wasn't about to point out to him that he couldn't even read his own handwriting. Then, when he showed me my sandals, he pointed out that he had used a different piece of leather for the strap, a totally different color, as I had 'not given him the strap.' I said, 'sir, I would prefer the shoes to be the same color. I gave you the leather strap.' He then proceeded to SCREAM at me and call me the 'worst girl ever.' He also THREW my money at me and told me to get out of his shop. I said, 'sir, I know I gave you the other strap,' and he said 'prove it!' He then put on a cd so he couldn't hear me. I have never experienced such terrible behavior and customer service before. I told my mother, as she is the one who lives in Beverly, and we will not be giving him any service. First off, I don't even want to give this man a star but nonetheless I have to pick something. When I walked in with a pair of boots I asked him if he could repair the heel. He took one look at the boots and practically threw them back over the counter at me. He scoffed at me and then proceeded to tell me the boots were trash. He finished by saying "do you even respect yourself?" Yes, the boots were kind of worn and I understand what he was trying to say but he came about it totally wrong. I really wanted to like this place--seemed very old world. But I really should have taken a hint when the customer before me was involved in a heated argument with the owner about the quality of repair. I actually felt uncomfortable and left the store only to return when the store was empty. Well, needless to say, unfortunately, I had a repeat situation. We had discussed two options for fixing my boots and when I came in to pick them up and started to say that option one didn't work, the owner immediately yelled at me and told me to take my boots and leave. I tried to point out that I was agreeing with him and wanted to proceed with option 2, but he never let me. Too bad, because I wanted to work with him, but I don't need to pay someone for verbal abuse. I'm now taking my boots elsewhere. NEVER step foot in this place! The owner has no class, and I was insulted several times. I was told my shoe repair was going to take 5 days, and it ended up taking 2.5 weeks. When I tried calling a couple of times to get the status, the owner yelled at me both times saying he was SO busy, and proceeded to hang up on me before I was done talking to him each time. Upon picking up my boot, he showed me about 8 different shoes, none of which matched the description I gave him. Even when he finally found it he felt the need to talk down to me some more before I paid. I would give a 0 but the site doesn't allow it. I brought in an almost new boot that I had scraped on a cement step. The woman said her husband would call me when it was done (never got a call). Two weeks later, I go to get the boot and he has trouble finding it. Finally finds it and it hasn't been touched. He argued with me about what was to be done. There was only one scrape. He tried a few things - mostly looking unhappy that he had to do anything. He took out a spray can and sprayed the whole back of the boot. Then buffed it, then sprayed again. The spray stuff is shiny and my boot is a matte shine. I asked him about it and started to yell at me. I asked why and he said that he had a hundred shoes in his shop and that everyone loves him and that I was the worst because I questioned him. I just wanted to know if the "paint" would rub off on clothes. He continued to berate me and told me to take my boot and no charge. The man is crazy and rude AND he ruined my boot. Cabot shoe repair is terrible. I had a pair of boots resoled and they are falling apart. After wearing them 10-12 times the soles are peeling off. I have had 3 pairs of boot and 1 pair of shoes repaired here. The shoes where done very well, two of the boots have held up so far with limeted wear. One pair of boots has needed to be reglued 3 times, the first two times he did for free, the third cost me $10. this has all been within a year with limited wear. When I asked if there was a way to fix it better he told me about his "guarantee" and told me if i wasnt happy I could go somewhere else. read more
