I'm not a big rice and beans guy so I got a side a mixed vegetables and a Cesar salad as a side and for 15 bucks this lunch was more than what I needed! The staff were really nice when I was picking it up and the restaurant was spacious and clean! I recommend Cacique to anyone in the downtown area looking for some authentic Hispanic cuisine...even if rice and beans aren't your thing. read more

We had lunch here today. I enjoy this place. It is very Miamian. The service is good and quick. The ambiance is old school Miamian with the locals, mostly Cubans. There is an energy that you don't experience everywhere in downtown Miami. Plus the food is good too. I also wanted to add a unique photo of the Pipi rooms to my review. Hi everyone! So I am not going to do one of typical reviews as Cacique has been serving customers right across from the Miami Dade County courthouse for quite some time. Will simply say that the staff here are super nice, attentive and the food is overall very, very good. Everything is fresh as this business has a constant flow of customers. Prices are also very affordable and they have all the typical Cuban comfort food so no need to worry about that! If you are in this neck of the woods you know what the parking situation is in the court house area as well but if you can you may want park in the public parking areas as the non public businesses can get expensive. Everything is super causal and laid back, the perfect down home Cuban food experience. On this occasion, I had the Grilled Chicken with rice, beans and of course sweet plantains! It was awesome! Place is a little rough around the edges and I think they were also confused to see me there cause they thought I was there for some business but I just wanted to eat haha. I got the skirt steak and it was solid but could definitely use a lot more seasoning. read more

Stopped in to get some breakfast. I ordered the Western Omelet, it came with fries. Their fries are so good! I also ordered a small lemonade which was fresh. They have a decent size menu for breakfast and separate for lunch, the ladies there are so welcoming. The inside of the restaurant is nice and clean with plenty of seating. read more

Breakfast review. Ambiance same as before very dated but I couldn't imagine it any other way. If you are staying on the downtown area it's worth the trip. Take the free People Mover train to Government Center and it's a 500' ft walk. It's with it. Breakfast was great eggs cook to order perfectly. The Cubano bread was warm tasty, almost addicting. I've eaten here a few times for breakfast and lunch with my fellow employees since we work nearby. The food is okay. Lunch ain't that great and just mediocre. We all had different lunch meals and all us felt the same way that the food was bland and mediocre especially the steak. Now, we have gone a few for breakfast and it's pretty good but you can't mess up breakfast. BTW the staff was okay. One time, I had given the waitress a $20 bill for a $9 meal but she never came back with my change and we waited for awhile. The place wasn't busy at all, so I had to flag her down and ask her about my change. She thought I told her to keep the change. Otherwise, they do sell lottery tickets and have a window service for pastries and coffee. (NOTE: There are a number of homeless hanging out or sleeping on the sidewalk outside the restaurant so be aware of that.) read more

If you like authentic Cuban Cuisine, it is definitely For you. Cost if fair in toda's economy. Loved their fried fish and how can you go wrong, Nice salad and fried plantains. All my Cuban Cuisine aficionados should try it. Close to Miami downtown. read more

If your by the court house and hungry for some delicious food this should be your first choice. Good prices, lots of seating and super fast service. I recommend the "Vaca Frita" super good. with a side of rice and black beans you can't go wrong. The menu is huge and has lots of variety. They have daily specials. read more

I went back for lunch before flying out. The Cuban Sandwich was great, very authentic. Great price, under $10 and had a colado which is a slightly larger version of an espresso. Powerful, strong stuff. The waitress was great, attentive. Great place for cheap and authentic eats. read more

Nice lunch spot downtown. Came here with two others for a casual business lunch and it fit the bill of quick service and quality food. I had the fish sandwich which tasted fresh. I still prefer the fish sandwich at Garcia's but this one hit the spot. It was a nice portion at a reasonable price. I walked here from the nearby library but I could see parking being an issue if I had driven. I would return here if I were already in the area looking for a quick, casual and cozy lunch spot. read more

Ordered a mango smoothie ($3) and a Cuban sandwich ($6) during peak lunch rush. The ladies at the counter were polite, despite how busy they were filling orders from the restaurant, counter, AND the window. That being said, it did take a bit to microwave a pre-wrapped Cuban sandwich before pressing it. Smoothies are made from frozen, concentrated fruit slabs, a spoonful of sugar, a splash of milk, and ice. Altogether average, but conveniently located. read more

Preferred it to Versailles overall (less bland)...Not the fanciest place in the world, but want to come back on some of the other days more towards lunchtime and to get some of the lunch food. read more

So I come here all the time just because it's really close to my office and they have really good specials. I have been coming here about 3 times a week for about two months now. I usually come for breakfast and sometimes for lunch. I usually get the breakfast special which is two eggs Cuban toast bacon and a colada for 5 dollars! You can't go wrong with that here in downtown. For their lunch menu I've had plenty of things like the pollo a la plancha which is grilled chicken. They usually have about 8 or 10 things as specials of the day and they are anywhere from 8 to 12 dollars. Sometimes the service is a little slow during lunch time simply because the place is packed. Located in downtown area and open at all times. If are looking for Cuban food and decent price, this is the place. I always order for take out and the price, quantity and service is great. I highly recommend some upgrades. The take out service needs to be remodeled and more fans installed. The homeless standing by the counter do not make it pleasant when ordering food. read more

Years ago when I worked at Burdines (yes, THAT long ago), I recall walking over to have a Cuban lunch at this long standing place. Unfortunately, today was one of the WORST dining experiences I've ever had. Looks can be deceiving so although it looked old & kinda dirty upon walking in, I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. What I can say is that the waitress was very sweet & welcoming. Besides that, the fresh limeade & the fried yuca, everything else was terrible! I should have known it was all downhill once we got our order of french fries which were cold & dripping grease. Considering we were the ONLY people there, how exactly did they get cold unless they had been sitting around since before we got there? My camarones al ajillo were pale & mushy & also super greasy. My nieces pancakes with strawberry topping had strawberries that looked like they were out of a very old can & my dads spaghetti was inedible. To make matters worse, the bill came out to $60!!! If anyone knows Cuban restaurants, you know that generally speaking, you dont pay more than $30 even when the food is great. This was SUCH a terrible experience that no one even came close to finishing their food & both my dad & I were sick to our stomachs once we got home. SO bad that even thinking about it now is making me nauseous. YUCK! read more

This is our go-to coffee break spot! As there are not a lot of options in downtown, let alone affordable options, Cacique is a great place to visit. Coming from New Orleans and moving to a larger city was a little overwhelming for somebody like me. Cacique randomly reminds me of home. The staff knows my coworkers and I, and they also know exactly what we order. One time our card was having issues and we were going to go back to work and grab cash, and the owner said to take the food and pay him later. This is not the norm in Miami, and it's very refreshing to see. Simply put, Cacique has good food and even better people. Stop by and ask for the cafe con leche! read more

Food is amazing but I've been ordering from this restaurant for over six years now and they always seem to have -some-employees- that are extremely rude and seem to give you an attitude. Only two of the waitress are wonderful, and there are two women in the front that take fast orders that I appreciate like no other however there are other two or three that are absolutely horrifying. Moreover, there is a gentleman that works on the cashiers and sometimes taking care of the inside and he seems to be a stalker ... He locates who you are on Facebook somehow by where you work and he has done it to another coworker of mine and we're astounded as to why he does that :/ ... In the end, some are amazing but some are just down right sketchy! Not professional at all. I would recommend you go to try the food but don't expect to get an ideal service. ... If you are looking for cheap Cuban/Latin meal downtown Miami, stop at this place. It is the local diner for office workers around. Their daily soups are very tasty. I tried the fish soup and a white bean/ham soup. Their Cuban sandwiches are delicious too. And of course they will make you an excellent cordadito or café con leche. Simple home made grandmother style food done well. Would recommend it to anyone. Parking is a bitch though... read more

Seems like the cuban/latino cafes in Miami always have a deli/coffee shop front and a restaurant tucked in the back. If I was just walking past I wouldn't have noticed. The few restaurants on Flagler seem to cater to the courthouse or other government offices nearby. They have sandwiches with names like the Baliff and so on haha I thought that was very creative and a good sense of humor. I tried the chicken and shrimp platter. These platters come with three choices of sides except there was no moro rice or yuca because it was saturday. Obviously the main pleasing crowd are the day time office workers around there. Anyhow the food was really good- the chicken was flattened real thin and well seared leaving it really juicy inside. The shrimps were juicy as well. The plaintains were a little charred but they were sweet! I like this low key place because there are quite a number of locals who come to eat. Everyone is so friendly and nice.The restaurant only opens during lunch time it closed around 3 PM. read more

Good stick to your ribs Cuban/Latin food. If you're hankering for some moro and maduros and whatnot and you're in the downtown area, for the price, this is your spot. They have specials every day of the week and I've yet to be disappointed by any of the food after working in the area and ordering at least once a week in the past five years. Consistency, reasonable prices and good portions -- it's what keeps you in business! read more

Like in the name of "chino" this is an Asian inspired dish with fried rice, maduros, pineapple confit and crispy pork. A very delicious dish. It could have don't without the little salad on top, but at least it ads color to the dish. The crispy pork tasted so amazing and the fried had so much flavor. Mix in some of the maduros and you get a sweet and savory dish. Would definitely be returning to try this dish again.

I had the signature roasted chicken ($28) and my husband the Cuban churrasco steak ($42) and both included sides. We also had a glass of wine each and again, wine prices were reasonable. While we don't tend to eat in this general area often as it is so touristy which usually equals lackluster food and service at high prices, Havana 1957 was just fine. I'd happily return here.
