Average food, wayyy overpriced. With all the great reviews, we expected better! We ordered two crab cakes ($14 each!!!). They weren't crispy, and they didn't have enough crab meat. Furthermore, it wasn't good lump crab meat. We ordered a pound of shrimp. Completely average; we got takeout at a similar little seafood market in Cherry Grove two years ago that served 50% bigger shrimp with a fresher flavor. They also didn't bother to devein the shrimp...yuck. We ordered key lime pie, but they were out (probably a good thing). We ordered hush puppies. We don't know how they would have been because they forgot them. Pretty sure we got charged, though, as our bill was almost $60! read more

I found this place by accident when looking for places to get seafood in Myrtle Beach. When I saw the reviews and pictures of a quaint no-frills seafood market, I knew it would be good. They did not disappoint! We were so impressed, we went back the next day for lunch before leaving town. They sell fresh seafood and also will prepare anything to your liking. EVERYTHING is fresh and homemade. Things we tried: hush puppies, crab cake, fried flounder, fried oysters, blackened sea bass, blackened snapper, fried green tomatoes, fried okra (just like I make it at home!), and the best tea I've had in a restaurant. I promise you won't find better tasting or fresher food. The prices are fair, portions are generous, and the owner and employees are friendly. The coleslaw and hushpuppies are some of the best I've tasted at the beach. Everything was very good and I highly recommend anyone looking for a good seafood plate to try them. Absolutely amazing food!!! And the staff and the owner made it an even better experience. I had the fried catfish dinner with home fries, fried okra and fried green tomatoes... everything tasted fabulous; in fact, it was the best fried green tomatoes and okra I have had since living in Myrtle Beach. The prices were very fair and reasonable, especially since the food was cooked to perfection. Likewise. we set outside near the mural so we could allow our dogs to sit outside with us while we ate. Our waitress gave us a little history about the mural but the owner provided more detail. Likewise, the waitress showed my friend what a blue crab looked like, so she could make an informed decision on what to order. First off, the service is fantastic. You can tell they actually care about what they're serving and you as the customer. The murals are great to look at and love supporting a small local business. We were in town for a softball tournament and this you buy we fry establishment was highly recommended. The people that told us about it weren't aware of the you buy we fry business. The restaurant was clean and didn't smell fishy. We were greeted by a pleasant male that took our order. We ordered a platter that had white fish, oysters, shrimp, fish balls, scallops, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies and collard greens. Everything was tasty. The fried green tomatoes could have been fried a little longer. For the amount of items, we were only given one small tarter sauce and shrimp sauce. We were vacationing in the area and did a Maps search for seafood restaurants nearby. We chose this place based on the high level reviews. When we pulled in, we weren't so sure we wanted to eat here. The place looked a little run down and in need of repair. We finally decided to go in and see what they had. The options were amazing, so we thought we'd just try it. Each of use ordered different entrees. One had Peel & Eat Shrimp, one had fried halibut, and I had blackened Mahi Mahi. While it took a bit to get our food, it was well worth the wait. The food was outstanding. We all shared a bit and each was equally good. The baby red potatoes are amazing!! While I haven't ever really had sweet hush puppies, I actually kind of like them that way! The portions were good sized. Some of us went home with leftovers. The owner and staff were both very pleasant and helpful as well! We would definitely go back, if ever in the area again. I usually don't write bad reviews but since I forced myself to overlook the dirt and smell because of all the great reviews I felt that I needed to save another soul from eating there and wasting their evening and money in this dive. Boy am I sorry I didn't trust my first impression. I hope we don't get food poisoning. Mom and I had the fried snapper. They merely dipped in flour and threw it in the fryer. No taste and very oily. I wish I would have taken a photo of the low country boil that we ordered, but even that photo would not have done justice to the delectable qualities of that meal. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, the sausage had just the right amount of spice, the corn was crisp and flavorful, the shrimp was sweet and tender and don't even get me started on the oysters (especially with the white sauce). On vacation here in MB, we chose Cackalacky for lunch because of the numerous 5-star reviews. We almost left because the building exterior is in disrepair, which makes it not particularly inviting. When we went inside, we quickly figured out this is a fish market that also has some seating for diners. Wife had a flounder sandwich...I had an oyster po'boy. The food was really tasty...both sandwiches were good portioned and served hot, fries were good and cole slaw creamy, but not overly saucy. Service was good. IMO, nobody wants to look at display cases in pieces, torn furniture seating, dirty doorways...with a little attention both in and out the place would be much more appealing.
