Cactus Cafe definitely has that small town restaurant/Cafe feel to it. The place is much larger than it appears on the outside. The noise level is very low. I really enjoyed going some place that wasnt just obscenely loud. Chips and Salsa are house made and the salsa has just the right amount of kick. I ordered the M&M bbq plate, it came with a couple of ribs, brisket and sausage as well as 2 sides. Opted for the coleslaw and onion rings. Sausage was really good, the brisket was super tender. Plenty of flavor, had one piece that was a little dry, but not complaining it was still good. I'm not a super big fan of ribs, but they were good as well. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and given the option to sit anywhere. The benefits of being the first one in for the evening apparently. Initially I thought I was going to have the entire dining room to myself but alas no luck Couple of families came in shortly after. If I am back in Deming for work again, I will have to stop by and try some of their other menu items. Probably tacos because that salsa was great. Delicious food decent service, although the waitress seemed to be a little distracted by a young gentleman sitting at the bar. She did take care of us, though. Restrooms were fairly clean given that this is a very old and dated building. Was not expecting the food to be as delicious as it was. The photo shows my ground beef tacos with a $1.50 charge for a side of sour cream. So delicious and plentiful. Had enough to take home with me. Hubby had the carne Asada taco plate and they ended up giving him four instead of the advertised three! The chips and salsa were fresh. I think the salsa was hatch as I think that's the thing around here. Got a little of that to take home with me as well. All in all we would definitely come back here again. One thing I might add is it was a Friday night at 6 PM and there was not a single person eating in the restaurant. Amazing red chile enchiladas, has that famous New Mexican red chile taste that you can't get anywhere else. The freshness and richness of the chile is unique and so so good! We stopped in on our drive to AZ. Cynthia was our waitress she was so welcoming and told us some of the local favorites. The highlight was when our son asked about enchiladas and she said they are too spicy for you. Texans can't do heat. We all had tacos plates and they were amazing. We have been coming through Deming for years on our travels and have never found a place we really wanted to go back to again to eat until now. The Cactus Café was wonderful. Based on the reviews I was hoping to have some good food. Sad to say our experience wasn't the same as others. We sat ourselves and got drinks quickly, very good iced tea. Our waitress came back to take our order, I ordered the green chili burger medium with cheddar cheese and Bobbie ordered the mushroom swiss burger also medium. I paired mine with onion rings and she asked for seasoned fries. I guess what you order isn't important to the cook as both our burgers were overcooked to the point of well done. Bobbie got regular fries with her meal instead of seasoned fries and my burger came with no cheese at all. So don't expect to necessarily get what you order. I will say my onion rings were good and service was better then I expected based on some of the reviews that mentioned bad service. Oh well, at least it filled a hole while on the road. read more

I could only eat one. I originally wanted ribs. That is off the menu. The have mainly brisket and chicken. Fish items. Don't think I'd get fish items this far inland. You sit down, you get good chips and hatch salsa. Love to see it. I wanted to try two things, so I got the smoked queso dip and asado plate. I think they keep the queso warm like places keep soups. It came out QUICK and I scraped the dish clean. The asado pork was incredibly tender and I kinda wanna hug whoever made it. The flour tortilla was perfect, as I am now expecting from New Mexican places. They're just the best. Refritos and rice were what you'd expect. I came in the last hour they were open and the service was great anyway. The asado sauce was nuclear orange and I really want to know what that's about. We visited here on a Friday, February 4, 2022, at approximately 7:30 PM. No patrons were in the restaurant. We were greeted by a man, behind the counter watching television, and a waitress who told us to sit anywhere. The menu is a mish mash of American bbq and Mexican food. It's a very expansive menu featuring "Tenacious Tacos", "Smoked Sensations" and "Booming Burgers". With those adjectives in the menu, you'd figure it'd have to be good. Unfortunately, my salad still had icicles clinging to the lettuce. Like they literally took it out of the freezer and threw it on a plate. The ribs were old, they fell off the bone, but they weren't fresh. The rub had some hard particles in it that felt like sand in my mouth. The onion rings were hot and definitely the best thing on my plate, which was sad because I really like good ribs. My wife liked her brisket tacos and said they were passable. We waited a while for a refill of water because the waitress was talking to the man for a long time. As I mentioned before, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Overall, for me, this wasn't a very pleasant experience and we paid $30.19 for a less than appetizing dinner. read more

The dry rub was so delicious you didn't need the barbecue sauce but the barbecue sauce was a plus. It was very spicy and not too sweet.. The French fries were just as I like them,cut potatoes fried to perfection. The Onion rings were also fried to perfection in a fluffy flower breading. I've been coming to Deming frequently for years, yet somehow missed ever eating at this venerable establishment before. Both DW and I were intrigued by the "Big Bambino Burrito." Both of us ordered one with queso sauce. When they came out, my first thought was that if you sewed them together, they would make a decent throw pillow. These babies were huge! Full of tasty breakfasty goodness: bacon, sausage bits, hash browns, chile relleno bits, rice, cheese... yum! I hadn't eaten all day, so I was just able to finish mine; DW got two meals out of hers.
