In a nutshell, don't bother. A good number of items on their menu have been removed (mozz sticks, dorito salad, to name a couple) and can't be ordered anymore. We ended up getting the House Smoked Queso dip, Bang-n-Brisket and the Cheese Enchilada platter. Waste of money. The dip was only slightly thicker than water, but tasted alright. The brisket was chewy, flavorless and I would bet it was microwaved, but still wasn't hot enough to steam. No way it was "fresh". Enchiladas were tepid and overpowered by the super-spicy red sauce. My family & I love this restaurant. My wife normally gets the rack of ribs because the meat just falls right off the bone but today we tried the buffet for the first time. We got there about 30 minutes before the buffet ended & there was more than enough food for us to eat. The red & green enchiladas were my favorite. My wife loved the meat & potato soup. After we had our fill of food, the kind waitress asked if we wanted to try a piece of their Homemade cheesecake pie. Wow what an amazing experience Macka and I had! We will be coming back to New Mexico just for Cactus Cafe!! Not only the food was spectacular the service was so welcoming and warming. We got into Deming around 8:30 pm aware that most local restaurants close at 8 pm. After reading through comments online, we decided to go to the Cactus Cafe because there were generally good strong reviews, and because in addition to a full Mexican food menu coupled with American standards, there was mention of dry rubbed smoked bbq choices. We are so glad that we did select the Cactus Cafe an are writing to post an enthusiastic positive review. Husband had The Great Bambino Burrito and it was indeed great both in size and taste. He got 3/4 through it while enjoying the homemade chips and spirited salsa; he boxed the leftovers for lunch the next day. I had the half rack of ribs which were truly delicious---so much flavor and while the meat did fall off the bone when prompted, it still maintained its structure as ribs on the bone. It was dinner time and we decided to stop here. There were not that many reviews and not a lot of cars. We decided we venture in because on the kids menu they have bacon mac-n-cheese and my daughter wanted this. My son really wanted an enchilada and they made a special order for him since it wasn't on the kids menu. My husband got the cactus special steak and enchiladas and he really liked it. I was disappointed after seeing all the great reviews that the food here was only ok. My Chili Relleno had no flavor at all which was disappointing because it was fried nice and toasty. We are sorry to say that our return visit just a few days ago was not so good. We think like a lot of business this restaurant has suffered from the affects of the covid epidemic economically. My wife ordered the Chili Releno's and I ordered the half rack of ribs. Here food was not very good and heavily breaded. The green chili was not much to speak of either. My ribs were ok, they did have a smoked taste and a fair portion for today's prices...We had stopped in this restaurant Feb 2020 just prior to the covid outbreak and our experience was totally different. Had an outstanding lunch here on our way from Tucson home to Albuquerque. Friendly and excellent waitress served us gorgeously thick & crispy homemade chips and tasty salsa.
