This was my second attempt at Mexican food in Navarre, and I must say this is the better of the two. I overheard the hostess tell someone that the owners are a local couple from Pensacola. So I don't think that it's a franchise. The chips and salsa were awesome! I'm pretty sure the salsa was fresh and homemade. I decided to order the Mexican Salad... I chose shrimp as my meat option. It ended up being $2 extra for shrimp, which the waitress didn't mention. I guess that's to be expected though. For some reason it's common in vacation cities. I guess they figure that people are on vacation and they don't mind. But to me, it's annoying whether I'm on vacation or not. I will say that overall the salad was excellent and fresh. My husband ordered fish tacos. They come fried, but he paid an extra $2 to have them grilled. And before the waitress was able to confirm that they were available grilled, she had to check with the kitchen. I assume that the fried fish is either premade or frozen. She asked if he wanted sour cream and guacamole with it, he did... but beware, there's a charge that they don't mention. read more

The quest for my favorite burrito continues. Tonight I got a "El Jefe" (the Boss). Ordered ahead so it would be ready after work. Meat option (beef) bean option (pinto). Busy place... but straight to the burrito review. This "El Jefe" was huge, corner to corner in a to-go box, wrapped in foil. Side of tortilla chips, salsa, and a warm creamy ranch type (unsure I couldn't remember the name). Now, this burrito is not a tightly wrapped meal to which you can eat driving down the road and eat (to many of your surprises... I had read the reviews and did not try). It is a sit-down at the table and enjoy type of burrito. Some may and some may not like the yummy struggle - to each their own. As you can see, it's packed full of flavor and goodness... including the meat flavor. I cut mine in half, as I do for presentation the reviewers. Eating it was hard... holding back, to not just "wolf it down" (because of the great smell and looks). Lots of droppings on my cutting board; which inspired me to use all those tasty chips. I'm not a chip guy... until now. Those are great! Huge unbroken fresh chips. The salsa was fresh and tasty as was the creamy side sauce. I wouldn't have given it the time, if it had not been for the scooping up of run-a-way meat that fellout. Omg this place was so so so so good!! I ordered a shrimp chimichanga and it was to die for!! Lots of cheese and lots of shrimp and it was one of the best I've ever had! My kids both got the hot dogs and it was like a hot dog chimichanga. It had lots of cheese melted inside of it. It was so good!! The employees were super nice and helpful. Coming from California, I wouldn't call the Cactus Flower Cafe 'authentic' Mexican food, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. The food was flavorful and so tasty. I ordered the chicken tacos. They did not disappoint. The lettuce was fresh and the sauce on top was good (though not traditional by any means). Don't come here if you want traditional Mexican fare, but do come if you want a good meal. I'm back in California, now months later, and I regret not going back to that place at least one more time before I left. read more

This is not an authentic Mexican place, more like Cal-Mex or American fusion Mex, so don't expect to have a legitimate Mexican dish here. Overall however, the ambiance, staff, customer service and food was very good and a welcome change from the usual stuff you see in the area. There is no liquor license for this place so you'll get wine and beer. They have a red sangria which is good but has no fruit in it! The point of sangria is to have cut up fruit pieces in it (mainly apples, oranges and pineapple) not just bare. If I wanted a glass of cold, sweet wine I would have added some ice and sugar to my Pinot. Chips were not made in house but were good and the Salsa and Guacamole especially were above expectations! Had the chicken tacos which were ok, shredded chicken, salty cheese, lettuce and wanna-be pico de gallo, nothing crazy, the rice and beans were very good however. The other dish ordered was a chicken quesadilla which was good but gigantic! Check the pictures attached. Few tips for the owners: dim the lights, you already have awesome candles on the tables, the lighting ruins it, way too bright for dinner. Put some music, it's a Mexican place for a reason, there should be music and a happy, fiesta vibe. PLEASE increase your hot sauce variety! It's unacceptable that all you have is Cholula!! You need to have some salsa Verde (not talking about the hot mole you have-which was a bit bland) get some tomatillo sauce, ají Sauce etc.. Trust me, I know what I'm saying! Put Fajitas on the menu! Initially I thought it was going to be kind of run down just by how small it looked from the outside but inside it was very nice. Light music in the background, staff dressed REALLY professional. Cactus Flower was a nice surprise as we drove back to Texas from Disney World, via the scenic route. We found this restaurant while searching on Yelp and the four of us were completely satisfied. Our first visit here about 3 years ago, the food was eh. Decided to go back 3 years later and give it another try and it was still no bueno. My chicken enchiladas were mush and the refried beans were so salty I couldn't eat them. They claim to be "California style" Mexican food. Moving here 3 years ago after being born and raised in Southern California, their food is not so-called California style. What is their definition of "California style"? Not sure if I was so famished that I imagined this place was awesome or if it truly was. I'm gonna say it was pretty great. Beginning with the service...our server Scotti was wonderful. Truly helpful, friendly and very efficient. The food was delicious, hot and fresh. The portions are massive and you will not have room for dessert nor is there a need to order an app. I do highly recommend the Queso though, it was mouth watering delicious. You can pick mild, medium or hot. We chose medium but I'm betting the hot would be the best choice if you like spice. Bonus for you vegans/vegetarians, they use no animal fat in their beans! Also, any menu item can be adjusted for you, quite a rarity in this area. I'm knocking off one star for not having in house made chips and for charging extra for sides of sour cream and guacamole. All Mexican style restaurants should offer these staples as far as I'm concerned. I also was charged for sautéed onion/peppers and beans for my vegetarian burrito, would have thought these items belonged in there not that I would be charged extra. My fiancé has always raved about cactus flower, he grew up in the area so I trust his options. When in the area, I decided to give try them out and they certainly did not disappoint! I wish I had pictures of my meal but I was in the hangry zone. So when I got my food I devoured it. I was simple and got the chicken tacos but man where they tasty! The thing about tacos is they can either be really bad or really good and these babies were really good. They were packed with flavor, the chicken itself was juicy I also tried the pork medallions and they were phenomenal! They were flavorful as well and soooo tender! So I'm pretty picky when it comes to Tex Mex and this place after living less than 2 miles away for over a year, I finally have it a try. My wife and I went and had the chimichanga and it was AMAZING! There's a restaurant in Shalimar called Peppers that I would normally go to for this meal, but now, I have a new place. The refried beans were very creamy and delicious as well. The price wasn't too bad and the staff was very friendly. Please give it at least one shot and you won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped by for lunch after reading the reviews. The atmosphere is happy and the restaurant clean and cozy. Ordered the queso and guac to start and they were outstanding. The service was incredible- we had a party of 10 and the staff didn't miss a beat keeping the drinks filled. Two at our table ordered the Special ( soup/ salad/ quesadilla for11.99), two others ordered the chicken chimichanga and one order of fish tacos. When I cut into the chimichanga, cheese oozed out and was it ever delicious. We all shared a bit odd our dishes, as we were eager to have others taste how great everything was. We had four teenagers who can be picky- and they ALL cleaned their plates. Johnny, our server, was right on top of everything and made sure we were taken care of.i will be back here for sure and am so glad we found such a great local place work delicious food and great staff. read more

I've been here twice. My first experience, the food wasn't great I believe I had ordered a chimichanga and it was very greasy and just not good. The second time I came here I was pregnant and my taste buds were at ultimate critiquing level and I was so surprised that my food was delicious. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was the best thing ever. The quesadilla was huge so if you don't want to feel miserable after eating then save the other half for tomorrow lol. The food was SO bland. I ordered the shredded beef tacos (they don't have steak/Asada) and my husband ordered the shredded chicken tacos. We were expecting street tacos from the menu description, but were sadly disappointed when we opened our to-go boxes. There was no difference in taste of the chicken and beef-- both were just bland and soggy. Nothing special about the rice and beans-- they lacked flavor as well. The children's chicken quesadilla tasted like they took rotisserie chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, and sprinkled a little Tajin on it. I placed an order for pickup yesterday and was a little disappointed. I had about a 2 hour wait for my pickup time and then my food wasn't as good as I used to get when I ate there on other occasions. Maybe it was just what I had, but I didn't get what I ordered either. I had ordered the nachos and the Santa Fe Enchiladas. The box indicated it was enchiladas, but to my surprise it was tamales. I like tamales, but these were not good in comparison to what I've had. I don't order tamales from any restaurant because I'm picky about how they should taste and be. I didn't care much for my queso sauce for the nachos either. Oh well. Portion sizes were great though. read more
