Wait staff was very nice (4 stars) and the wait time for our group wasn't very long....considering the fact that it was the day before Thanksgiving and a lot of people eat out that day for dinner. However, our group (of 8) was seated at a table appropriate for 4 average adults.....making me wonder what the fire code standards are for the restaurant. On to the food... Chips and Salsa: Salsa was good, but out of the bag Tostitos! Chimichanga: Presentation gets "4 stars"; however it was filled with gelatinous goop called chicken. Tortilla Soup: Good taste, but it had more of the whole Tostitos chips mixed in...which isn't close to being authentic Mexican. read more

The first thing I always try when dining at a new Mexican restaurant is their chimichanga. I'm from California and I have had no luck finding that taste or matching the size around here, but the Cactus Flower nailed it!! I had the pork chimichanga, black beans, and rice; it was all very delicious! We also had an appetizer of guacamole to go with our free chips. Very well made and fresh! The restaurant was clean, the ladies were super nice, and the food was fast! You're going to spend some money, so bring at least $30. The prices were a little higher than I was used to, but they were very generous with their chips and salsa. That makes up for the price. However, that is my only small complaint, the chips. They have all this great food, but the chips tasted like they came from a bag. Homemade chips are the best, but who knows, maybe they cost more or something, I don't know.... I came here with my family, a large part of about 10 people. The food was good. The service was a bit slow considering the dining room was only about half full. A cute California style Mexican restaurant that we enjoyed. It is in a small strip mall, but the interior is clean and with a slight Mexican flair in the decor without going too far. Also they display a local artist's work for sale that, although not our style, was fun to look at. The food was good and definitely better than your typical chain Mexican restaurant. I am NOT a drinker, but decided to try the Sangria. It was perfect for me (which is to say very fruity, refreshing but not strong on the alcohol front). Only regret is that we didn't ask about the level of queso spice. We got the mild which was extremely bland. My husband doesn't like really spicy food, but we could have gone up to the medium and it would likely have been better. Having said that, the BEST dish hands down was the flan for dessert. Nothing like the original on 12th Avenue Pensacola. Still better than the average Mexican food with a much better menu. Their chips have always disappointed me though. We are an older couple snowbirding at Santa Rosa RV park. We went here for dinner and had their burritos. Delicious and huge. We had enough for dinner and took leftovers home for lunch next day. Rule 574 of Yelping: Never trust highly reviewed chain restaurant reviews in "touristy" locations. The fact that Cactus Flower has 4.5 stars is astonishing. Cactus Flower's claim to fame is to being "authentic" California style Mexican food. Their menu is extremely small/ limited to a seemingly, very "Americanized" style of Mexican food; we are talking "basics" here.. like quesadilla, tacos, and one type of burrito. Right on the front side of the menu it says everything is made IN HOUSE; but my common sense says other wise. The chips don't even pretend to dress up as flat rolled, hand fried IN HOUSE Mexican style chip; rather, they are a $3.49 bag of Tostitos purchased from the nearest wholesale store; no salt, dry, white washed, and dead just like Cactus Flowers "cuisine". California must have changed since the last time I visited, because apparently there is no tequila or other types of liquor there now? Or at least, at Cactus Flower where they don't have a liquor license you won't get a margarita/ any other liquor based beverage. Now, as for the main event, the actual meal! Out of the 10 or so options on the menu, I decided to order the.. drum roll... burrito. I asked for it to have shredded beef, as ground beef in a burrito seems Taco Bell style in my opinion. The waitress seemed to be in such a rush even though hardly anyone was there at the time; she didn't write down our order and quickly walked off after we finished ordering. The burrito came out and as soon as I cut into it I saw it had ground beef (shocker). The ground beef was mushy and had no flavor. I hesitantly asked for it to be changed for the shredded beef like I had ordered and the waitress then argued with me and said I ordered ground beef. My wife confirmed that I ordered shredded because even the waitress had agreed that it was the better option. She frustratingly walked off into the kitchen and (I'm assuming she thought the kitchen door had already completely shut) shook her head and yelled for the cooks to make another with a little tantrum. Even after the correct burrito came out it was extremely average, with nothing special inside, mainly just rice and lightly seasoned beef. Everything tasted like Mexican food the average person would make in their house with basic ingredients. Overall very disappointing; have still yet to find a good Mexican restaurant in the area. Absolutely our best meal in Navarre. While here on vacation, my husband and I tried out the Cactus Flower on a date night, and it was perfection. He had a ground beef burrito and I had the ground beef tostada, which was on a crispy corn tortilla made in-house. We both noticed that even the veggies on top of our dishes were beautifully fresh and flavorful. Worth savoring every bite. The sangria was delightful and we finished the whole carafe and still had the banana gooey cake for dessert. It was just the right size to share without being over-full and was simply scrumptious. Pretty good California-style Mexican food, especially for a small town like Navarre. The grilled pork tenderloin wrap from their lunch menu is my favorite! I only wish they would let you order it for dinner (and although they have a similar menu item for dinner, they refuse to make the lunch version). Home made salsa and smashed pinto beans are very good. Prices are reasonable for portion size. We often have them cater for our work functions as well and they always do a good job. And to reviewer Loren C - wow you are ignorant. Most AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurants have MEXICAN staff. Have been here several times and each time the food has not been disappointing. Sometimes the wait can be a bit long, but that is a good thing. The dining area is small though so this is one reason for long waits. The wait staff has always been friendly and during out last visit (6/8/18) we never had to ask for drink or chip refills. I have had the mahi tacos and let me tell you the two you get are all you need. My other go to is the chicken quesadilla. The thing almost hangs over the plate and is stuffed full of cheese and chicken. Bottom line. Decent pricing and excellent food!! Would recommend as a regular go-to. read more

We are here on recommendation from my co-workers back home. It is a nice place- pretty on the inside and the service was excellent! The salsa was good- very fresh tasting but the chips were very disappointing- obviously from a bag. The guacamole was so good, as was our dinners- I had mango shrimp app with a side salad and my husband had shredded beef Santa Fe enchiladas. Not your standard Mexican restaurant. They have taken common Mexican dishes and given them a Californian twist. They have awesome chips and salsa which are free with your meal. Their shredded chicken is the best; very tender and flavorful. Their menu is somewhat limited, but they do those items well. My biggest gripe is that sour cream and guacamole is extra with your meal and very overpriced. read more

Ate there with my Daughter and my mom and some of her friends. Its not that the food tasted horrible because I thought it was ok. HOWEVER... I got there chicken enchiladas and the Chicken is definitely CANNED CHICKEN.Which is disappointing since they boast fresh ingredients and I think Taco Bell across the road has fresher chicken lol. When we arrived back to my parents home my dad had talked about going there before and getting chicken quesadillas and he also said that it was made with Canned chicken. So if you want to spend $9 for some canned chicken this place is for you. read more
