My son wanted to spend some time with dad today at the office so I had an hour to kill. I decided to go to this salon to get a blow out since I was going on a date night with my husband later on. I have platinum blonde hair on top and dark brown hair on the bottom (like Dua Lipa's old hair style). I paid a lot of money to get my hair like that before hand from my stylist. I asked for a purple shampoo/conditioner toner just to freshen up my color along with my blowout. Well I had no idea what was being put on my hair until I got to the chair and my hair looked brown. I was so upset. The woman said no no it's because your hair is wet. I was super upset because my hair was now medium ash blonde on the top. I couldn't believe going to a salon to pamper myself with a blow out could have had these results. I was so upset I called my colorist. She let me come right away and she used a clarifying shampoo and washed my hair like ten times in between putting me under the heat to try to get this (glaze?) out of my hair. It's still not out and she said it will take a while if me washing it every day. So upsetting. I never asked for a glaze. I never asked for my hair to be a different shade or color. This woman put a level 9 glaze on my level 10 platinum blonde hair and after that did a purple toner. My hair looked gray and purple. It was horrifying. I gave two stars instead of one because everyone else at this place was wonderful. The people at the front were super kind and took me as a walk in. They were lovely. The situation was so awkward because I felt really upset but the woman who did my hair was very defensive even putting down my original color as "orange" which it wasn't. Lesson learned. If I need a blow out and purple shampoo/conditioner - don't go just anywhere where people don't know me or my hair. The woman thought she was doing me a favor but she ruined my two week old foil hi-lift highlight. So upset! **Edit** After going to my colorist a second time - we believe she actually put hair dye in my hair - NOT glaze (I only asked for purple shampoo and conditioner). My roots lightened- and my colorist said the only way that would have happened is if she actually put hair dye in my hair. I am so incredibly upset. My hair is so dry from trying to get the color out that I'm going to have to get it cut. read more

I went to Cactus Salon and Spa in January for a haircut and conditioning treatment that I purchased through Groupon. Making an appointment was easy, and the location is on Main Street in East Islip, so it wasn't difficult to find. The set up is a little strange when you first go in because there is more than one front door. I was one of the first appointments for the day so I didn't have to sit and wait. The salon seems a little run down, maybe not the cleanest in the sense of style (I didn't see any dirt or anything like that to call it unclean). The girl who washed my hair was very nice and friendly. She also put the conditioning treatment in my hair. The conversation was very easygoing and if I'm honest, I felt that she was much better than the place and I had only been there a couple of minutes. The woman who cut my hair was quiet, which was okay with me, but if you like to chit chat don't waste your time here. The receptionists and other stylists are too busy gathering around the receptionist desk discussing their drinking schedules. Unfortunately for me, my chair was RIGHT next to the desk so I got to hear all about how they couldn't wait for summer to head over to Fire Island. My stylist made sure to comment that not everyone in the salon likes to drink like they do. All in all, the haircut was great, but it was too uncomfortable and too expensive for me to come back without a discount like Groupon. If I'm going to pay that much for a haircut, I'm not going to listen to grown women discuss their night life...loudly. read more

I am LIVID absolutely LIVID!!!!!!! I bought a Groupon for a full 1 hour facial. Michelle was fantastic in her service and the facial itself was great. When I left my skin was glowing and I spent $120 on products. Why this review is negative is because when I got home to wash my face, I noticed there was something like foundation on my face. When I called the spa, I was advised that Michelle had put a BB cream on my face. Now this isn't my first rodeo folks. A bb cream provides light coverage. Why on earth would an aesthetician use a BB cream, after removing gunk from my skin and moisturizing it??? To me, a BB cream would be used to falsify the effects of a shitty facial, and to convince me on how great my skin looks. NEVER have I EVER had an aesthetician put makeup on my face after a facial. I'm extremely disheartened by this service and will be reporting this to Groupon as well. Shame on you guys. read more

I found out they closed that location and I needed to find her. due to her expertise and wonderful work she does with highlights and color Dawn Taylor's name needs to be out there. I had visited this "salon & spa" and was very disappointed. I first visited the salon for a massage and the massuese was exceptional. The problem is, it's in the back of a hair salon -- so there is constant chatter and walking back and forth thru the massage area -- not relaxing in the least. None of the hair dressers seem to have any regard for the "spa" portion of the business. They should not be allowed in that area -- at all. They are loud, and it's completely the opposite of relaxing. This is my pet peeve with "salons" hoping to rake in extra $$ by using rooms for massages and now calling themselves "spas." News flash: you're not a spa. Focus on your core business: hair and nails or invest in soundproofing. The second problem I had from this salon -- was that I got a horrific infection as the result of a facial. Although I could not "prove" that it came from here -- this was the only change in my routine, so no other explanation. I called to warn the manager and she apoligized profusely -- and swore that their utensils are steril and they are NYS certifed (really, what else was she gong to say??). I ended up have to be on anti biotics for an extended period and wound up with a terrible scar. HORRIBLE!!! read more

They couldn't book me for a month in between, when The woman had to cancel due to her becoming sick I was understanding and accepted a reschedule. I received a phone call from the receptionist named Fran who was very rude and gave me an attitude because I missed the appointment and Asked if I could reschedule. I didn't want to reschedule with such a nasty employee and I will not be going to cactus in bayshore. She rushed me off the phone, I couldn't believe it. I bought a groupon for a balayage back in march of 2018. I went in, showed her the picture of a very light blonde balayage and she said okay. She put BROWN dye on my hair, left it on for around 20 minutes, she then said I needed a toner and a glaze. I'm pretty sure the toner and glaze was never done on my hair. I've gotten my hair bleached and toned enough times to know how long the entire process should have taken. Then I asked for a hair trim as well. She cut me a weird side bang that i didn't ask for and that is still growing out over a year later. I ended up cutting all my hair to shoulder length because of how much it bothered me. After I paid around $100 for the groupon, she then said it was $110 EXTRA dollars for everything that she did. not only that, I was in and out within around an hour for a service that usually takes around two hours when done correctly. I was embarrassed to wear my hair down from the cut and the color of my hair looked exactly the same from when I stepped foot in the salon. This place is a scam. read more

How can someone mess up a wash and blow dry. I should have listened to the previous review. PRICEY AND NOT WORTH REVISITING. Clean and somewhat courteous but I wouldn't even bring my pet there to be groomed. I looked over my shoulder to see if maybe the next stylist knew what she was doing. I went to this location because I used to go to the one in Babylon Village that has since closed. Never. Again. Pros: 1. Easy to make an appointment, even right before Christmas (should have been a clue) 2. The cut was ... fine. Not the best, not the worst. 3. Gave me the opportunity to learn how to remove hair dye from my face - I learned something new! Cons (in chronological order): 1. Stylist Amanda left me waiting in the chair for 20 minutes for my 10:00 am appointment because she "just had to do a blow out." How are you 20 minutes behind schedule by 10 am? 2. My goal was to donate my hair, but the way it was handled made the hair unusable. After Amanda assured me that "this how I always do it," she proceeded to hack handfuls of hair off the back of my head and lay them on the tray. She then grabbed fistfuls of the cut hair and stuffed it into the bag. To donate hair, it needs to be at least 10 inches long and neatly secured in a ponytail or braid - not all different lengths (some pieces were only about 4 inches) and stuffed into a bag by the messy fistful. I was crushed that I had to throw away all that now-useless hair. 3. My secondary goal was to have a "professional" color consultation and find the most flattering tone for my skin. Amanda spoke with me briefly, then brought out a single sample card and pointed to one color that she wanted to use - NOT the dark color that I was looking for. She responded that "that's what color your hair is now" (it was not) and when I told her that I wanted another color, she responded "trust me - I do this all day, every day." I had to fight with her to get the color that was closer to what I was looking for of the two options on the card. 4. As she applied the dye, she got it all over my face and neck. She tried scrubbing the resulting dyed skin off as she was rinsing, but I walked out of there with big, brown, sweeping brush marks across my forehead, down the sides of my face (sideburns - so sexy...) and down the back of my neck. Plus sore/tender skin from all the scrubbing. 5. When I had made the appointment, the woman on the phone (same woman who rang me up) said that they were giving a 25% discount to customers from the Babylon location. I do not believe that this discount was actually applied, as I paid about $115 for the cut and color at the end of it all. She had said that a cut and single-process color each "start at" $50, but that I would be told how much it would be during my "consultation." To be fair, I did not think to ask about it until after I left because I was so upset about how the whole appointment had gone, I had been there for hours, and I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Never going back! The place can't even give an even trim, and I wanted my hair colored .About $200 later, the color was not what I wanted and my hair was completely destroyed. I had a bit of breakage before going there, but nothing even close to the damage I got from the "professional" It's been months since I went there, and every time I'm trying to style my hair I want to cry, it is just so bad! One side more uneven than the other. I was able to schedule a same day appointment which was lovely, all of the employees are easy going and helpful, but Helena, who cut my hair got too scissor happy. I was only looking for a trim, and she cut off more than an inch. A trim is the most basic request. I didn't want layers or any texture, just a blunt cut is that too much to ask for?? Apparently so. How is this salon still opened? This is by far THE worst salon I have EVER been to. The conversations between the staff that I overheard were truly disturbing. They were talking about drinking and drugs, mind you I had my 11 year old daughter with me. David "tried" to highlight my hair and absolutely DESTROYED it! Had my hair styled for a wedding I was in.. I couldn't be more disappointed in how my hair looked when I was a bridesmaid. I have curly/wavy hair so I came with most of the texture flattened out as requested.. when I looked close in the mirror after my hair was styled the stylist didn't even run the iron over my roots. She left me with frizzy loose curls and my natural texture at the root when I asked for sleek curls. It looked nothing close to the photos I had shown her. What totally sucked is that the bride still needed to be styled and we had to take photos so there was no time to re do my hair. I could've and *have* curled my hair way better using a basic flat iron. The bride's hair of course came out beautifully... Maybe the girls were rushing to get us all done but if you're given the number you're styling for don't only send 2 people if it's not enough... Especially for a wedding party! read more

Have been going here for a few years. The past two times I went I had to go back to get fixed. I got highlighted the first time a few months ago..and a balyage this last time. The highlights came out too light the first time and the balyage was just a horrid hot mess. My hair wasn't blended, went back so she could fix it and only made it worse. My hair broke off as I brushed it and I paid 200.00 for garbage. Never again! Be warned!!! Make the right choice! Ps my colorist was Jess.
