Review for brunch: Came here for brunch and was pleasantly happy with the food and vibe. The brunch menu had a variety of options suitable for various moods. I opted for the fried chicken and biscuits, which was okay. If I had to do it again I would've ordered the gravy on the side. I was really hoping for a nice crispy piece of chicken, but instead it's crispiness was smothered by the thick gravy. The real winner at our table was the Monte cristo sandwich! It had atleast 3 layers of meat and cheese, separated in between the two other slices of bread with another slice of egg battered sourdough. It was so large that it fed me and my husband for brunch and then lunch the next day. It came with a side of fries and homemade ketchup (fyi- not your normal ketchup). Another winner had to be the PB&J croissant! I never knew a croissant could taste this good. The pastry was crisp and soft with a nice warm filling of pb&j. this new spot is such a vibe. located underneath the Pro Bike + Run in the Strip District, this speakeasy, bar and restaurant offers a dark and chill experience as if you were living during the prohibition era (obvi!). we went here for a late lunch to celebrate my birthday. The cocktail, wine and beer list are extensive, so there is something for everyone. I had the skirt steak salad, which is a large portion with a delicious vinaigrette dressing and seasonal vegetables. Alex had the Cellars Burger which came with a side of fries and there very own homemade ranch and ketchup! The waitress surprised me with a delicious birthday desert - Port Wine Brownie (Pistachio gelato, Salted oats, Port syrup) - highly recommended. After we ate we began to explore the cellars when I met the GM, Kevin who was SO WELCOMING and excited to show us the space and explain the history of the location. Love this place! It's a place I continuously go back to. I always bring guests out of town here and they are always wanting to go back. The ambiance is unmatched. I love a good speakeasy! The bar has a good amount of seating. The staff here is always so nice and extremely helpful! They have a nice happy hour and they even have a late night happy hour!! Their kitchen is opened later which is always nice when you're out and need a snack. The French dip here has so much flavor and plenty of beef! I also had the sea bass special that had one night it was incredible. I heard about this place on Instagram and had to come check it out. I'm a sucker for a good speakeasy. My husband and I visited on a Thursday night and it was pretty crowded, but fortunately we didn't have to wait for a table. I called earlier in the day inquiring about reservations - they only take them for parties of 6 or more. We lucked out and there was music and it was happy hour (4:30-6:30 on weekdays). $2 off appetizers and house wine, $1 off beers. The atmosphere is great. It's larger than your average speakeasy, but I liked the vibe. The drinks are average priced at about $10-$12. The sazerac was small, but packed a punch. Overall, I would say the drinks were decent. I have high expectations for drinks when a place refers to themselves as a speakeasy though. The food was kind of pricey for the overall quality, but the portions were fairly large. I got the salmon with sweet corn risotto and broccolini. The salmon was a little overcooked, but the skin was crispy and the flavor was good. My husband got the pork chop, which was also a bit overcooked, but still good. Overall, the atmosphere was fun and I loved that they had music, which is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 3. So first time here. So many mixed reviews held me off. The restaurant is very cool. I loved the basement, speakeasy feel. Our service was amazing, I wish I could remember his name. Very attentive without being intrusive. We had the carrots, homemade onion dip/chips and the Wellington stuffed egg rolls. I would get them all again. Where it went donwhill was my husbands 20oz ribeye. He ordered medium rare and the temp was near medium well. The waitress apologized and took the steak back. The manager who walked by our table a total of 5 times, looked at our table with only one meal did nothing. Ignored our table the entire night. He gave drinks to a table, wine service, delivered food to a table and took groups for a tour. It took 30 additional minutes to finally get his steak. Awesome spot, I highly recommend checking this place out. We sat at the bar and ordered a few cocktails while we were here. The drinks were excellent - lots of unique flavor combinations. You have to go through a bike shop to the basement to find this place, which looks like a massive cave. The bartender was really friendly, and definitely talented. We ordered the ricotta toast as an appetizer, which was delicious and very filling - four pieces of toast with ricotta, and arugula salad on top with a slight lemon flavor. The food and drink menus looked very legit, it's a bummer we didn't get to spend as much time here as I would have liked - but hopefully we'll get a chance to come back. We stopped in here for dinner on a Wednesday evening around 7:30 pm. We did not make a reservation but was able to walk in and be seated upon arrival. The space was pretty busy for a week day, which was good. We were seated at a booth that faced the bar/tvs. They had a fireplace setting on the TVs which gave it an intimate vibe. This place is underground and I love that. The space has exposed brick to give it an underground feel. Okay onto drinks! We tried the cadence collins and an old fashioned. I'm not a big fan of gin, but you legit could not taste it in the cadence collins. It was so good! For dinner we had the crispy skin salmon and the filet mignon. Our service was great as well. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because of some minor food issues. We asked for the steak to be medium rare, but the steak was burnt on the outside. Also, the menu said the salmon came with a corn risotto and broccolini. Except there was no broccolini. It was broccoli instead. My sister and I came to Cadence on a Saturday night and we had reservations. Our table was ready right when we got there. The restaurant is in a basement to give it that cellar/speakeasy vibe which I liked. When we sat down our server came over right away. She was very attentive and great. Their wine menu was not as big as I thought it would be, but they still had a lot of good options. The bottle of wine we ordered was really good but took a while to come out (about 20 mins or so). It actually came out after the fries that we ordered but that was not a problem. The bread and butter was pretty good. The chicken caesar salad was really good. I first seen this place posted on Instagram as I learned about a place that I didn't know existed. I was just talking about the place and boom as we were headed somewhere else and ended up here. It is confusing which I love because it's a speakeasy and they throw you off by seeing Pro Bike and you're like is this where it's at. It is but in the basement. The place is spacious and has a lot of cool vibes from the bartender to the staff to the location. I wish they had a tour of the area that is secluded off, makes you think that there is much more to the tunnels and mean something for sure. We had some wine which it's a wine bar somewhat. I was only disappointed that I didn't see more wines from local areas. The strip district has several wineries such as Pittsburgh Winery, Engine House 25 Winery and R Wine Cellars. But they did have a winery from the Finger Lakes. I did see a couple of spirits locally from Liberty Pole Spirits and Maggies Farm Rum. We weren't hungry but the bartender recommended a brunch item that had french toast, syrup and other stuff in it. I wish I remember the name of it but it was delicious. We made it to brunch!! So this restaurant was underground in the cellar under the bike shop. It used to be a tunnel that they dug out and resurfaced. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and the service was superb. We made a reservation and arrived on time, so we were greeted and sat immediately. The hostess/waitress was very kind and thoughtful throughout the afternoon. They had a musician (ED Powers) play live Jazz music with his guitar and the melody was smooth. I have not come across many brunch reviews, so I had to check it out. We started with a mimosa and it was really good. The drink had more prosecco than orange juice so it was pretty strong. Let me first point out...everyone loved their dish. I had the chicken and biscuits, and others had the french toast, salmon and eggs, and grilled chicken sandwich. Not a complaint at the table. My chicken was hot and juicy with a crispy, seasoned coating. The honey sauce on top was heaven. It topped the dish off and I believe the arulaga on top was...seasoned?! Double Yum! It was my birthday, but they didn't do anything special like send a plate with " happy birthday" or sing, but that was ok. We still got to check out the tunnel and the manager gave us the history of the place, and it was cool to hear about the history of it all. I attended the ribbon cutting event last night and got the history lesson of a lifetime! This restaurant sits in the former Otto Milk Company building and the new decor and vibe will make you think you've traveled back in time to a local "juice joint" in the Prohibition era. The decor features art of real people from the Prohibition era, historic Pittsburgh images, and that telltale industrial touch that Pittsburgh is known and loved for. I started with my meal with the Snack Attack grazing board (pictured) and then devoured my Lil Ribeye French Dip open faced sandwiches before I could take a pic LOL This place is so freaking cool! There is a lot of rich history with this new speakeasy, which makes it even more exciting to visit. We did not have a wait for a table for 2, but larger walk in groups had waits of 1 hr+, so reserve a table if you can. The cocktail menu was very fun, I had the southside and it was very good. We ordered the French fries, and I'm pretty sure they were frozen fries you'd pick up at the grocery store. That was a bummer. My husband had the bolognese and it was a big portion and very good (on special)! My sweet corn risotto was pretty good but a little underdone. Entrees come with salads and bread service according to the menu. My salad came out dressed but my husbands had dressing on the side. Since neither of us specified, this was a little strange. We didn't get any bread. The service was good, but they are still getting on their feet because they tried to bring us steak salads we didn't order and overall seemed a little chaotic. Great place to do a few drinks and dinner. We had a reservation that we arrived early for and they were easily able to seat us a head of time which was greatly appreciated! They really have so many tables and it's a large space (would be really great for a private event). The menu is seasonal and we all enjoyed great cuts of meat and two drinks. I was able to give this place a try thanks to a small social that included about 12 people. Cadence Cellars is located in the basement of a historic Pittsburgh building in the Strip District. The place has been beautifully decorated and has a lot of space. I didn't tour the whole restaurant this trip but will definitely do this on my next visit. The restaurant provided some pre-dinner apps and drinks which were delicious. The mains that I saw looked incredible but I remained quite thrilled with my choice. I hosted a group event at the Cellars a few weeks ago. The space is really cool, being in the basement really gave the speakeasy vibes. For food, I had the Cellars Fries and the French dip bites, both delicious. I loved the Bees Knees cocktail. The espresso martini was good as well, your standard espresso martini. I was a little let down with the service/flow of our meal. We had a group of 14, reserved weeks in advance. Our orders were all out in separately, with "appetizers" coming out first even though the entire group ordered off of the small plates menu and no one got entrees. Leaving half of our guests without food for over 30 minutes after everyone else received there's. We got a lot of excuses for the delay, but unfortunately it was one thing after another leaving some guests with a less than desirable experience. Overall- I'd go back to sit at the bar and have some drinks, maybe a snack. read more
