When traveling, I generally follow the rule of never going to the same place twice. BUT I BROKE IT FOR THIS BREWERY. ALL their beers were so good. We were at the eastern market shopping around and saw this cute elephant mural. Turns out the EMBC mascot is this elephant. I ordered a flight the first time because I thought I wanted to try out alot of their beers. I had the butterfly seltzer, the cranberry cosmo, Peppermint Mocha White Coffee, and the eggnogged. The seltzer was nice and extremely light drink that was SO PRETTY! It was light purple and I would order it just to look at it!! The second time, I got the DIPA, which I am a sucker for. It was so good. My partner really liked the elephant juice and the hair of the dog. He thought it was one of the best IPAs he had this year! Loved the vibes of this place. There are seats inside, outside, and inside their brewing dungeon! The wall of windows brought in so much natural light and I loved their plant wall, it gave it the kiss of perfection. Overall, if you had to go anywhere in Detroit, you should come here! read more

A solid brewery in the heart of Eastern Market. A solid spot to stop in for a beer. Riopelle St. is closed to traffic at least in the summer, which creates a great outdoor area to enjoy your drink. They don't have food, but you can bring in food from other places to enjoy (Supino's is a great option). read more

I really loved this place. While I knew there was an Eastern Market Brewing Company, because I would order their beer at Supino's when it was open for dine-in, I did not realize it was around the corner and open for tastings. I also had not realized until my recent visit they were open with outdoor seating and that you could carry around drinks at the entire market. So, once I realized there was a party going on at the market, I did an impromptu pub crawl. This was my last stop. They have seating inside and outside. The individuals who work here were very friendly and informative. You are able to sample as well before you purchase either cans to go or a pint to drink there. I liked their selection. I think I counted 30 on the menu board. The prices were very reasonable. I was in the mood for a shandy but they convinced me to order the lemon-lime kolsch, which was very drinkable. We also tried the white coffee blonde stout which was quite amazing. That was something to get every time it is available! We were very impressed. While we did not stay, we left to roam the market, this is a place I would love to return to with friends and another pub crawl. They have so many great choices. Plus, coincidentally, I actually received a can of their margarita flavor can as a gift which I look forward to trying soon. Side note, they did have a small donut case which looked enticing. Not sure if that is always there or provided by a local baker, but I am not sure if there is any other food. But there are restaurants, a small grocery store, and the market with food trucks when they are open. For anyone who enjoys craft beer, this is a must visit spot on any beer tour around the state. read more

I was super excited to get the opportunity to try some beer at Eastern Market Brewing Co. We parked on the side and I saw no meters. We then walked past this yellow blocked area and saw cute seating. The buildings had awesome grafitti on them as well. It was not too busy at first because we walked in at 4 when they opened. The woman at the counter was super sweet and let us try a few flavors to see which cans we wanted to take home. As my husband was tasting some of the gose, suddenly a line was forming. They get pretty busy in here, and I was surprised. It was worth it though because the beer tasted amazing. I came here for an event, but I'd definitely like to come back to grab a drink and update my review. I'm not a huge fan of breweries, but this place was pretty cool! I came about mid-day on a Saturday and it was packed, but I was still able to get a drink quickly. I tried their purple seltzers (I think it was Butterfly Tears) and really liked it. It was very light and refreshing and still a bit sweet. If you're not into beer, I would go with that. The price was reasonable as well. I was actually a bit surprised about how cheap it was. Although, I was not able to use the gift card I had and the staff was not very helpful even though it was a brand new gift card. The event space was a bit awkward and it felt dusty which wasn't great considering it was a clothing swap (the actual main seating area did not feel this way). read more

My tastes preferred the Sweater Weather, but taste away until you find something you like. We stopped here on a very hot Sunday afternoon. Their outdoor tables were mostly in the shade and spaced far apart (and far from the areas where people walk). You enter the building at the side entrance to order at the bar, pick up your drink in a plastic cup at a table, and then exit out the front door. Everyone was wearing masks and it was easy to keep your distance. The beer was good. My only two criticisms are the really loud music inside made it difficult to be heard when ordering and wearing a mask and I never saw anyone cleaning the tables. So, if you're concerned, bring your own wipes. Update: I heard from them and they have turned down the music and have a dedicated table washer. I added an additional star for being responsive to and correcting problems! read more

I am re-reviewing to dock a star and just can't bring myself to do it. My old review still holds true, and I love this place! However, the food I mentioned in the past isn't stocked anymore (do appreciate the food trucks, though). Neither are the non-alcoholic options...I miss their root beer! As I mentioned, this is such a community space, even moreso than a brewery IMO. The events they put on are amazing. I love having EMBC closeby, but it is no longer as appealing because I have no options as somebody who doesn't really drink. I have brought my own non-alcoholic beverage to attend trivia, as they recommended, and occasionally stop by for the food trucks, but I feel guilty and awkward not buying anything directly from EMBC when there. We had plans this evening at the Whiskey factory so came here for a beer first. We didn't realize the walk was as far as it was (in heels and pouring rain) but I can be a good sport especially when beer is involved! I really like the atmosphere of this little spot. It's warm and cozy. I haven't been back here in quite a while so it was fun to experience it again. They brew on site and have beautiful murals painted on the walls. We ordered beers and of course tagabrews. They had a special going so we could not use our hop passport but that's ok. We were cutting it close for our 6:30 reservations so we didn't stay too long. Just a quick pop in for a beer between activities. VERY good hazy IPA, wish there was a way for me to bring some home without them having to get warm in my hotel room for several days. The neighborhood is cool - lots of murals everywhere (that seems to be a Detroit thing) and the space is welcoming - very traditional tap-room vibe, but also friendlier feeling than most. Amazing place. Came here for the first time for a great Yelp Event. And we have been coming back ever since. Great guys who own the place and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Most of the seating is communal, only downside... I'm not a huge fan. But there is bar seating as well. The beers are great. One of my favorites is the White Chocolate Stout! They change frequently so there's always something new to try as well as favorites that stick around thankfully. The back room is going to be a kitchen in the future we hear. So they will be offering food which is great. There is a large selection of games. So you can kick back with great beer and play a game. I've been here before for a Yelp event. They walked about their concept, why, which, where, when and how. Plus their plans for a food option. Since my cousin, nephew and I were biking around Detroit. I think it's just a proper to stop here to consume some carby beverage and food food. I gravitate mostly towards the easier drinking beer. Like a blonde or a pilsner. My Nephews are more of the IPA and Porter types. Also, I was hella glad for them having food options now. Just so that we can further drink some more while smashing of some good stuff. Yuca Fries: Definitely a super strong plate. I do adore the perfect texture. I have had some Yuca fries before and whoever made these really knew what they were doing. Perfect pair to any of their beers. Arepas: These little sandwich treats are super good as well. This is the first time I've ever had arepas and I can tell you that these guys do not disappoint. Would order this again next time I'm here for some beverages. I still adore this place. Nice open layout. People working are super cool and super nice too. They've made a little make shift patio on the alley next to the spot. It was a bit cold when we came, so we just saddled up on a high top and enjoyed our little break from biking around the city. Oh yeah EMBC has a nice little setup over at Eastern market, they have tables in front the whole way down the alley. Connecting two the Detroit distillery, creating the ultimate front patio. You can get a beer or go next door for something stronger, order takeout get a pizza (from Supinos) eat it at your table, hang out. This is a really cool spot. On Friday, Nov 29th, I visited Eastern Market Brewing with a friend and was thrilled to see the Grumpy Grandpa Bourbon Barrel-Aged beer. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to purchase a four-pack. However, upon returning home and placing the four-pack in my refrigerator, I discovered that two of the cans were Grumpy Grandpa, while the other two cans were different beers entirely: one Woke Aunt (a white coffee) and one Rich Uncle(a chocolate stout). Both of these beers are significantly lower in price than the Bourbon Barrel-Aged. I was very upset since I paid $22 for beer that I didn't even receive what I purchased. Obviously the employee cashing me out didn't see the 2 different cans either. I immediately called them by phone but had to leave a voicemail and when I didn't hear back 48 hours later I sent an email, still have not heard anything. I am very disappointed since I've been a loyal customer for many years. I expected more from this brewery. read more

Update: Adding a star. Owner reached out. Said the passion fruit double IPA is meant to be sour and asked me to stop back thru some time. I think if it wasn't so busy the bartender who I did ask about their IPAs probably would have mentioned that it was sour being that IPAs are typically not. Thats their take on it. Might work for you. First, I came in on a Saturday afternoon to a packed house so I was anticipating great beer.. They had 1 double IPA and I checked my untapped app. Most reviews over 3.0. So I'm tired of BS ing with bad beer after 1 day in Detroit. Just give me 1. Oh my. After few sips, hmm it tastes almost like a damn sour beer which if you know beer styles is not what an IPA tastes like. Now there's 1 other black lady there. I saw her the night before at Founders. Drinks stouts n porters only look like. I was gonna leave it but can't be beat! When do u see multiple black women drinking craft beer?? So I stick it out. Not good at all but I finished it and definitely needed something else. My double IPA was $7. No way in five hells I was gonna spend anymore here. Had not been to this spot but had heard about it. It wasn't exactly where I expected, just a block off the bigger part of the ever expanding Eastern Market. Beer is the order of the day and you order at the counter, then sit family style at large picnic type tables. Staff is friendly and helpful. They will offer you a taste if you're not sure. They have a variety of beers that are a variety of ABVs. When picking up my beer I noticed some pasties advertised- one meat, one vegan. Think some food trucks do some things here - but I am not sure how you find out before. Enjoyed my afternoon here and was able to get beer to go- they have cans of everything available. read more

Came here yesterday (8/23) to enjoy some Detroit beers on a hot sunday afternoon. The process was simple and everyone seemed to be following the rules. We got there right before noon and only lasted a little over an hour since there was no shade in nearly 90 degree heat. Looking forward to return, especially in cooler weather!
