It's a lovely quaint coffeeshop in Westmount that I have been following on Instagram. So finally, I was catching up with a friend and this place came to my mind. It's a tiny place with bright lights everywhere. The service was amiable and helpful but slow due to one staff working by herself, and the coffeeshop was packed. I had a green salad with a chai latte and light pistachio cake. Every dish was excellent. The salad was perfectly tossed with vinaigrette. The latte was heavenly and the cake was tasty, fluff and light. Definitely, a place for everyone to check out. read more

I've never heard about Café Bazin until I read about them on Montreal Eater. I was meeting up with Cbear in the NDG area so this was a perfect spot to check out. It's located right beside Park. We dropped in on a Monday afternoon (around 1:30pm). Couldn't believe how consistently busy it was in here! There's 6 counter seats and 6 small tables. The menu is small but there's a pastry/dessert and small plate/drink menu. Service was quite good although I would like them to leave a jug of water for the table. - 2016 Vins de pays de Gascogne ($7.50) - Cbear wanted a glass of white. She went with this one, which she said wasn't bad. - Latte ($4.25) - she also got a coffee at the end of our meal. - Croque-monsieur ($15.00) - this came with a delicious green salad. The lemon acidity of the sauce was delightful and refreshing. The sandwich was lightly toasted. Good but simple. - Fish of the day ($21.00) - pan seared sea bream with potatoes, green beans and pine nuts. This was excellent. The sea bream was full of flavour and oh so tender. The pine nuts added a crunchy element. - Tout choco ($7.00) - all chocolate for this dessert; rich (but not over the top), nutty (almonds) and decadent. Perfect way to end our meal. Café Bazin is pricier but the quality is there. Need to come back to try their pastries. read more

This place makes wonderful desserts! The hot chocolate was deliciously creamy and I was amazed by the Tout Choco. I love the crispy chocolate shell with almonds, the mousse inside and the frosting! Every bite was heavenly! I would love to come again and try their other desserts as well. Please save a table for me! read more

My folks live near this little bistro/restaurant and we pass it at least twice a day when we walk to Sherbrooke Street, just a hop skip and jump north of here. I've always wanted to try it out and today, we did. Wow, what a special place! I must make note how tiny the interior is, with but 5 or 6 tables for two, one table by the front window for 3-4 people, and a counter bar that could probably accommodate 6 or 7 people. So.... not a lot of eat-in space (although I hear there's a nice outdoor eating area in the summertime). My mom and I got a table for lunch here but when we left, every table were occupied. Our server was lovely. I ordered the ratatouille (I see someone posted a photo of the dish. It was gorgeously plated, with thin layers of yellow and green zucchini atop a layer of tomato sauce). I had never before had ratatouille so beautiful; usually it's simply thrown in a bowl, real peasant-food-like. Comfort food. Here it looked like a totally different dish. Gorgeous. Appearance aside, while it was obviously fresh, it was rather bland and devoid of seasonings. My mother had half of it and she agreed. Bland. I would not order this again. This ratatouille came with some bread slices. I hear they bake all breads (and croissants, which looked devine) in-house. The bread was insanely good: rustic, chewy, a bit gummy in the center, just amazingly good in every way. My mom ordered a quiche that was a special du jour. The server said it had mushrooms and bacon in it. Mom and I shared it and it was delicious, with the best crust ever, lots of fluffy eggs inside and mushrooms. Didn't detect any bacon in it. The eggs were somewhat loose in the quiche, almost like scrambled eggs were just put it in a quiche crust. We didn't mind this, as we like a custard-y texture, but if you'd be expecting a firm egg-based quiche, you'd be disappointed. It was very flavorful and we'd definitely get their quiche again. It also came with a small side salad that was quite good. The croissants and pastries in the displays looked shockingly good. Like, to die for! If I lived nearby, I'd take out pastries from here regularly. It looked like they had a nice selection of coffees, too. read more

What an awesome experience! I was in the area for work and was looking for a place to lunch so I randomly ended at Café Bazin and it didn't disappoint. Café Bazin is very warm and welcoming despite being a mostly white space. I ordered the Parisian gnocchi mixed with bacon, onions, zucchini, pine nuts and mushrooms it tasted amazingly good, and are probably the best gnocchi I had in a while, they were just perfect, ultra light and soft. I then ordered a coffee, and of course a dessert, my favorite sugar treat being lime tart well, I ordered their lime tart and basil, I liked the fact that it wasn't too sweet and thought that the blend of improbable flavors worked well. I will definitely be back to try the rest of their delicious pastries. read more

Confession time: I occasionally have moments of gastronomic Tourette's syndrome, when I eat something so good I involuntarily start swearing. I had such a food moment in Café Bazin (apologies to those sitting at the counter next to me). This is a small cafe near where I live, and I've walked past several times but never saw an open seat. Tried my luck yesterday and there was an open spot at the counter. I had the soup of the day, acorn squash, which triggered a few quiet f-bombs. Amazing, rich, incredible depth of flavour. Essence of squashiness. Super happy fun time. Also had the spinach quiche, which was almost as equally delicious. Silky texture with wonderful crisp crust. Portions are not large but the food is very rich so they are just right for lunch. I was too full to try one of the beautiful desserts I saw on display but they looked amazing. Service was slow, not in a bad way, but in a "this is a nice French cafe so sit there and savour your experience" kind of way. Not a place to grab a quick bite but rather a place for a proper leisurely lunch. Prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. Best lunch I've had in Montreal in a long time. GET THE HOT CHOCOLATE. Now that i have your attention let's proceed, this cute cafe is nested in westmount near vicpark. The decor is amazing (if you k ow me you k ow i love plants). The interior is nice and neat they also have a small terrace with maybe 5-7 tables. Okay now back to the hot chocolate, it was rich,thick and creamy. This cafe has the very literal best cup of coffee in Montreal. The beans, the way the staff froth the milk, the way the shots are pulled, has been boiled down to an artform. Americano, latte, oat milk, whatever your drink of choice is, it is an exquisite cup. It is one of Chef Antonio's restaurants in Westmount, and unlike Lavanderia which is just next door, Cafe Bazin is offering lighter meals and have a café vibes. It's a really chic cafe and everything they offer looks so delicate. The cuisine is French style but the menu is quite unique and innovative. We tried their lemon pistachio étagé and tout choco, both were excellent, giving me a feeling that I am back to France again. Then we took Paris-Brest au foie gras (normally Paris-Brest is supposed to be sweet) and Boeuf Bourguignon with homemade pasta, which is very typically French, I love both dishes, but not the vegetable soup that my friend ordered, which tasted like Campbell mushroom cream. Having been open a few weeks I decided to make the trek to try this bakery. Arrived at 3pm on a Saturday and almost all the deserts were sold out so the selection wasn't great, but what we did try was divine. The pistachio cream puff with a raspberry in the middle was amazing and a $1.50 is a steal. We then tried a strawberry summer roll. A thin layer of cake with strawberry compote rolled into a sushi like presenatation with a fresh strawberry on top. So light and summery I loved it. We also tried the crème brûlée. This was standard, good but nothing different about it. We also had cappuccinos, but they seemed heavy on milk and was more of a small latté. Coffee was no strong either. The pastries look amazing and tasted even better; I had the choco cafe pastry and it was so good, I devoured it in seconds, it was so perfect. The cappuccino was delicious as well. 4.5 stars! A place discovered by a friend.. and oh my gosh, the food is really good! I cannot help it and have to come to this place for lunch two times in a row while I am in Montreal for a short vacation... Fish of the day is seabass - crunchy skin with soft fish meat perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The combination of the ingredient used ( like grape tomatos, grapes ...I think) gives this dish a light but flavourful taste.. very very good dish.. and for $20, wow!!!! The dish has a very well presentation too! Check out the pic. Also tried the dish with tuna - tasted very light and goes quite well with the soft boil eggs. Dessert, in total, tried 3 from their offer selections. boy oh joy , they are yummmmmmy!! Must try!! Not only they look great, but tasted really really good. Out of the three cakes I tried (from my pic), the best one in my opinion would be the one with strawberry with a thin layer cake wrapped into a roll! So many flavour in that cake, it also has a hinted flavour that taste like earl grey( not exactly sure , just my guess )... They are ALL good, but if I have to rank them, it would pick this one as first, then the coffee flavour tart thingie (just so well balanced between the coffee flavour and some chocolate), and then the round strawberry mousse (this one looks really cool in terms of presentation). Boy for sure I will visit this place again next time I am in Montreal! I really love this place! Oh forgot to mention, the service are excellent and decor are clean and modern! read more

Cafe Bazin is quickly becoming my go-to cafe on sunny summer days. They have it all: non dairy "milk", glutenfree goodies, bright and perfectly air conditioned sitting room inside, and flowers and tables outside where you can enjoy the sun. Café Bazin is a delicious coffee shop where you get to enjoy the pastries of chef Bertrand Bazin. Their lunch menu is delicious although a bit on the pricey side. The niçoise salad, the croque-monsieur and the gnocchis are very good. For dessert you can even get one of the desserts offered on the Park menu. This place is just perfect. The food is delicious, the pastries are divine and the service is exceptional. My parents are regulars and the servers are so caring and friendly with their requests.
