    Breakfast splurge

The mother in law had a gift card and I am so glad we took advantage! The service was fast and frequent. I got the chicken and waffle. A nice rendition and I would order it again. the hubby liked his eggs and sausage. The coffee cup was never empty (or half empty) and the servers were friendly. Highly recommend for groups! Will be back for more!!!

Having done that, we all agreed, we were a bit underwhelmed, and would probably stick to Vim in the future. I will say, start to finish, their service was great. It's easy to have great service when the place is so small, but that doesn't mean everyone does. Service was great. I was rather less impressed, though, given how relatively small the menu already was, and how early in the evening we were there, that they were already out of several things, including the only appetizer I had personally been particularly interested in trying, so we just ordered entrees. The booth table we were sitting at also felt a bit cramped - the tables by the window looked a bit nicer. They did bring complimentary bread - but we also all agreed that their complimentary bread was almost, though not quite, inedibly salty. I definitely did appreciate, at least, given that obviously all their wine is going to be expensive, at a place like this, that they did have a fairly substantial selection of local craft beer, including multiple local craft ciders. If I had been more impressed by the food, I would definitely have been super happy about that. Cider is so versatile, and not on nearly enough menus.) Anyway, I tried their braised short rib dish - it was... good. I think that's really the best way to describe it - I enjoyed eating it, but I still have random memories occasionally how great a short rib dish I had several years ago at Vim was, and I really don't even remember exactly what this one was garnished with or anything. I had no complaints, but there wasn't anything about it that would make me specifically want to come back, nor to have that amount of money spent, even if it was my parents', when they could spend it elsewhere. (My mom made similar comments about the fish entree she ordered.) That said, since we didn't order any appetizers, we did have room to share a dessert, their panna cotta with fruit, and we all agreed, the dessert was definitely the highlight. Excellent panna cotta.

I had the spicy Devil's Ginger vodka martini with the calamari appetizer and with dinner, the Lava Top Sauvignon Blanc ($13), a perfect complement to the swordfish. My swordfish was perfectly sautéed in a tapenade beurre blanc sauce ($40) with deliciously creamy and decadent polenta and buttery chopped bok choy. The way they served the bok choy was perfect- never change it. It was artsy, buttery and didn't look wilted. My son had the grilled boneless pork chops (two boneless chops) with fries and smoky beans ($28), loved. He devoured the berry fruit crisp à la mode for dessert ($12) and I had two small bites: It was like granola over compote with ice cream. I didn't complain. The best part was the incredibly flawless service. We could have felt rushed dining since it was towards the end of service. Instead, Genevieve paced the meal perfectly so we felt spoiled and unrushed. Next visit I would love to dine in their "secret garden" courtyard; it was beautiful. Their 'secret garden' would be beautiful for a private party like a birthday or wedding anniversary, bridal or baby shower.

But their Neapolitan pizza has a very soft crust; it's very pillowy, with very little char on the bottom. There is not enough contrast between the crust and the toppings; you can't tell where the crust ends and where the toppings begin. I prefer Neapolitan pizza with more chew on the crust and char on the bottom, like at Pizzeria Delfina, Che Fico, and Doppio Zero. 5/5: Eggplant appetizer $20. Perfectly seared/caramelized eggplant, with just enough chili to give it a boost. 2/5: Lemon curd dessert $12, with fior di latte gelato and pistachio praline. This dessert doesn't work. The super intense lemon curd obliterates the subtle flavors of the fior di latte gelato; they should never be served together. Don't get this dessert; instead, just get a single scoop of the fior di latte gelato, which is 5/5 excellent $9 Random points: - My table was wobbling like a tilt-a-whirl because the weld connecting the base to the post failed. - When they deliver the bill, they stick it to a small metal tray using a magnet. That risks de-magnetizing the stripe on my credit card.

My daughters each had the ravioli and it looked like a toddler portion-literally 7 very small raviolis. My lamb was tough and exactly three bites with lentils that were terribly salty. The menu options are pretty limited-only a lamb and a fish (overpriced cod) for entrees other than pasta or a pizza-no beef or chicken. The chef's curated salame appetizer most definitely came out of packages from the grocery store and slapped onto a wooden serving tray. It's like they're not even trying. I'm super bummed because even after our appetizers, salad, and "entrees" we were still hungry and literally ordered food from another restaurant to be delivered to our house so we had a meal when we got there. $340 bucks to order another meal is insane. One star for the very nice hostess.

We waited in line to place our food order. They were out of some meats including Beef Ribs. Even the pork ribs, we had to negotiate with the cashier. We asked for a full rack, they countered with 4 ribs, and then we finally landed on a half rack. By the time we ordered, the band was wrapping up since their set ended at 8 PM. The food: Pork ribs - tender, but not fall of the bone Brisket - medium slices from the flat - nice flavor and texture Mac & Cheese - my favorite of the sides - good cheese flavor with al dente pasta The other items were fine - coleslaw, potato salad, garlic bread, corn bread. Worth noting, the corn bread is a sliced of corn bread (not a muffin). We also got some pulled pork, but that was a bit too dry for my liking. My advice - definitely get there earlier in the day so you don't miss out on the meat that you want. Everything is self-serve including ordering, getting food, and bussing your table.
