Really cute place! Definitely has a cozy atmosphere, but it is a little cramped. I would probably only come for to-go coffee. We tried two of the seasonal fall lattes. The Chaider (chai and apple cider) was amazing. The apple cider donut latte was good, it could have had more flavor. Service was fast, I imagine if it were crowded inside the waiting area would get pretty cramped. read more

Got caffeinated at Cafe Domestique on a Saturday morning. Had heard good things about the coffee they were making. The shop has a homey feel to it with a bike shop in the back that's connected (really cool!). There's not much seating indoors so definitely come earlier if you're looking for a spot to sit indoors. I got a classic iced oatmilk latte that was very solid. There's expresso was strong (which I like) and the oatmilk was a great ratio. Overall, would recommend their coffee! read more

Got an iced maple sea salt oat milk latte and it was just fabulous! The sweetest service and drink came out almost immediately. It is a bit small with just 3 tables which were all full when I arrived, so if you are trying to come have a spot to work beware you may not get one! read more

Very cute, small coffee shop. There are a handful of tables and bar seating. It's cool because it's connected to a local bike shop. Overall an awesome vibe. I just grabbed a chai latte to go. It wasn't the best chai latte but it was pretty good. The temperature was perfect. The staff was super friendly and efficient. I want to go back and have a latte there. It seems like a great spot to meet a friend or get some work done. Especially cozy on a rainy or snowy day! read more

Madison has some cafes that focus on style, and some others that focus on coffee aka substance aka subsistence. Domestique is consistently in the ladder camp. The coffee is always great, and they have a wonderful set of rotating roasters. There are fun baked goods. The seating area is a little small and awkward (just given the space) but it is usually not that crowded. The coffee is worth it though. And they have wifi now! read more

A coffee gem! They use Ruby & Intelligentsia beans. Syrups in the seasonal drinks are all house made. We were welcomed by a very friendly barista. He gave us a sample of the Ube syrup after we asked what it is. We liked it and ordered a Ube latte as well as a lavender latte. The drinks were rich & flavorful with a nice kick of espresso taste. The Ube latte tasted a bit like taro milk (if you have taro milk tea or ice-cream before) with coffee. The lavender latte has a strong lavender flavor and tasted very natural and balanced. The milk temperature was right and the foam was blended well with the espresso. We were pleasantly impressed! Street parking is easy nearby. read more

I can certainly see the appeal to this place. The menu is fun and the bike theme is really pretty cool. My biggest critique is that this place is REALLY small. Even if every chair at every table was filled, I'm guessing you could only fit about 12 people. I honestly felt guilty for taking up one of their few spots. To make matters worse, when accessing the wifi, guest are instructed to not use it longer than a half hour. So essentially, this place is designed to grab your coffee and leave--ideally within 30 minutes. This design might be more tolerable if I didn't pay almost $6 for a small latte. On top of all that, the staff were pretty average. They did their jobs, but I didn't feel like they were especially welcoming or helpful. read more

To me, Cafe Domestique embodies the essence of Madison when people who don't live in Madison think of Madison. It's quaint, small, and attached to a bike shop, located primely along Willy St. I think it is an ideal place if you are wanting to grab a local cup of coffee on the way to work or have a brief face-to-face meeting with a friend (but I really wouldn't suggest more than one friend, because frankly, there isn't space). There isn't much seating, and wi-fi is limited to one hour - I know some people wouldn't love that, but I enjoy the intentionality of what a coffee shop is at its core! When I went, I had an ube latte, and it was superb - that, alone, would keep me coming back, as a lover of all things ube (and hater of things that are *too* sweet). I loved the detail of the stamping of their cups. So head on over, sip your coffee while you read a book or answer an email or two, and enjoy the vibes! read more

The baristas are so kind and they're so knowledgeable. I asked them about their espresso roasts and they were able to provide me details of their flavors and give me their recommendations. My favorite is their cappuccino, which they make traditionally. Their seasonal drinks are also delicious and they sell out pretty fast. The aesthetic of the coffee shop is bike themed, which in my opinion, suits Madison. I definitely recommend this cafe to those on bike trails since it's really close to the trail. The art work is also very impressive. The coffee shop is small and there isn't much room to sit, especially with the pandemic going on. read more

I love everything about this cafe: the coffee, the artwork, the bicycles, the service. I usually get their brewed coffee, but if it's a hot day and you need something cool and refreshing, their iced Canadian coffee (made with maple syrup!) will definitely satisfy all your needs. I usually get pastries from Batch next door and come into Cafe Domestique to enjoy my baked goods with a cup of coffee. Fun tidbit, the portraits on the left are of cyclist before a race (can't remember which race). The photos on the right are taken immediately after the race. read more

Cute coffee shop in Willy Street with a bicycle theme. Friendly service, intimate inside, great drink! I ordered the Rosemary Brown Sugar Latte after reading yelp reviews. I forgot to ask what milk it came with and the woman at the front had already put my card in when I inquired. (My stomach doesn't like dairy as much as I do... :( ) I said it was fine to re-run but she said it was OK and gave me almond milk. They have an option for tip on the machine, so I made up for it with a tip :) They also have oat milk, which is a nice option. The latte was really good! The rosemary was subtle, not overpowering at all. They use intelligentsia coffee, and the drink was smooth without being overly sweet. Yum! I came here to study, and it's probably a better place for a meeting or catch up. Not overly loud but just a little close together for studying. I still got some work done though, and there were a few other people here with laptops. Because of its location, parking took me a few minutes to find. There's only street parking. Overall, really nice people and a cute shop. I'm sure I'll be back! read more

I live nearby and love it here! Everything is of high quality and delicious; also, the staff are very friendly. I am pregnant and drinking decaf, which I usually don't enjoy, but their decaf espresso is great. The Ube latte is amazing and so pretty! There are so many things I enjoy about Cafe Domestique. I love that they serve/carry Intelligentsia coffee (they also offer other brands), they make their own syrups and they take the time to craft a delicious beverage. Their space is sparse, but in a good way - on a sunny day the light shines through their windows and makes everything all bright and inviting. On my most recent visit I tried the rosemary brown sugar latte with oat milk and it was perfect until my last sip. I like coming to Café Domestique. They have great hot coffee, and wonderful staff. The staff is very nice, and will greet you with a smile! They will take care of you and will help with any questions you may have. I throughly enjoy the flavors of the hot coffee they serve, but I always have to wait a few minutes to enjoy because it is always fresh. The only downfall with this Cafe is the fact there is only street parking available. So you may have to walk a little bit to enjoy their delicious coffee. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Daniel C.

As a lifelong cyclist and Madison native, Dan was inspired to open a bicycle cafe in Madison after traveling the world and seeing the connection between coffee and bikes. Everywhere he traveled there seemed to be a coffee shop that catered to the needs of cyclists, offering not only great espresso but cyclists-centric events and services. Upon returning to Madison in 2014, he found that there was no great place in Madison to roll up on your bike, enjoy an espresso and meet a friend for a ride. Cafe Domestique was born in 2016 to fill that need.
