Ordered: Mushroom omelette A + Homemade quiche with goats cheese B - The goat cheese flavor was good and herby but not the best we've tasted. We were also comparing between the omelette and this dish so this fell a grade in terms of flavor Each plate of food was served with shoestring fries and a nicely dressed leafy green salad. Many tables inside are too close to the others which is my only BEEF with this place so I'm taking off a star for that reason read more

IMHO, things have declined since reopening from COVID-19 shutdown. This have been the restaurant we have eaten at the most over the past 19 years in the neighborhood so we aren't rookies dining here. We were celebrating a birthday for my daughter and asked to have a table reserved in the patio for 5PM on a Wednesday. Now I can understand if this was a Saturday or Sunday when they do an extraordinary amount of brunch business but this was a weekday early enough in the afternoon or evening to accommodate a request for table of 5. Met with resistance, asked if we could have them place balloons on back of chair prior to our arrival , resistance again. Now only one table was occupied when we arrived so it's not like we were imposing on them. Not what we have been accustomed too, it has alway felt like coming home to eat with family, but this staff didn't make a good impression on us. Food was good which was steak, salmon, crab cake sandwich and pasta with chicken. No complaints about the food. Menu has changed We get the check and in large letters it's read " SERVICE NOT INCLUDED". Not sure what kind of crowd frequents this establishment maybe weekend brunch crowd has stiffed the wait staff being it's so busy. I'm certain we were the largest check of the evening and being in the hospitality business would never not tip was taken back again with the statement written on the check. A friend of mine was visiting from the west coast & what's the best thing to do on a Sunday, but go for brunch! I headed to yelp to find some options and we decided on meeting at Cafe Luluc - and I am SO HAPPY we did. This place was packed! And if the weather wasn't so gloomy we would have sat outside, but it kept drizzling on and off and we decided to wait a little longer to sit inside. Since we were a party of two, it was easier to sit us and took about 20 minutes. The inside reminded me of an old school diner vibe. I started off with a Bloody Mary - it was more on the clear side and I prefer a thicker consistency to my BMs. However, it was a strong cocktail which I didn't hate. For my meal I was set on getting a Benedict and then I saw the couple next to me just get their pancakes and I made a game time decision to go with the pancakes. I usually never get them but these looked amazing. And they did not disappoint. They were perfectly cooked and so fluffy. You get two in a serving and they are a hefty portion. Came here on Saturday for brunch, and it was packed! The host originally told us the wait time would be 50 minutes but we only waited 20 minutes. The food wait was about 30 minutes. We ordered sangria, 2 ojs, famous pancake, black angus steak, spinach ricotta ravioli, western omelet and a side of bacon. Famous pancake: one of the best pancakes I've had! The ends are a bit crunchy and the inside was fluffy. Black angus steak: my friend had this and he said it was cooked to medium just as he requested, but the only down side is that it was cold by the time it reached our table from the kitchen. Spinach ricotta ravioli: my boyfriend had this and he said it was not too rich, and it was very flavorful. Western omelet: my boyfriend also had this and he said it's just a regular omelet you can get it anywhere else. Side bacon: it's too crispy, you can't actually taste the bacon meat anymore, the texture was chips like. Overall, if I'm craving for pancakes I will definitely return. I would give it 5 stars because our main waiter and the other waiters there were super sweet and attentive but the young blonde hostess on Friday was pretty nasty She didn't even greet us or help us move tables but had the nerve to point to my boyfriend who's hands were already full and told him to pick up the glass bottle they gave us. I thought she was annoyed since we asked to move to outdoor seating (I was getting cold inside) so I apologized and she just looked away. She was all smiles and talkative with the THREE OTHER TABLES around us and asked them if they needed anything but she just glared at our table and kept walking even though our cups and water bottle were already empty. The food is good the service is bad. They sat us at a tiny corner table underneath the bar. And kept spray cleaning supplies on rags next to us as we ate. Our food took long to arrive. Another woman who they seem to know personally came in and was sat right away when we waited an hour to be seated at that horrible spot and her food came out in under 10 minutes. I like the fake cobble stone flooring as well as the current magazines for those waiting in front. Service is quick but not overbearing. I LOVE this place and have already taken 2 other people here after being introduced to it in 2010. The pancakes as everyone says are AMAZING! Fluffy and golden pancakes are served up in elbow to elbow seating on weekends. We arrived just before 11am and it was a good thing, too. Shortly thereafter the line outside the door was well on its way. Service was good but it was not a relaxing experience with folks lined up in queue right behind us as we were eating hence the three star rating. Also, while price points were generally fair I expected my $3.00 Orange Juice to be fresh squeezed and not tasting like Tropicana. It's the little things that make a difference. Still, if all you care about are the pancakes then you're good to go. They will be served up promptly and your chair will still be warm from the last patron who came in for the same. I picked this brunch spot for the pancakes and my god was it a good choice. The pancakes were so fluffy on the inside and a bit crispy on the outside--they were the best pancakes I have had in my life. My friend ordered poached eggs with salmon, which I do not recommend because the salmon was really salty, rubbery, fluorescent red, and I'm not even sure if it was salmon. As for everything else, the two of us got seated pretty quickly even though the place was crowded, and we fortunately were not bumping elbows with the people at the table next to us. We had to wait a while for the food to arrive, but all three items we ordered came at the same time. They said they could give my friend half of the French toast but charged more than half of the original price, so take note of that if you want to order more things with smaller portions. I think I might be one of the only Yelp reviewers not impressed by their fluffy pancakes. Here's why: Yes, the pancakes are fluffy. Yes, the pancakes are instagrammable. But would I come back here for the pancakes? Absolutely not. While they are fluffy, the insides are extremely dry. Like really dry. Even the small amount of fruit can't cut through how dry the pancakes actually are. I think it's also ridiculous that you have to order a separate side of whipped cream, which we actually did order, because the pancakes needed something else to make them tastier. I don't understand why people enjoy these pancakes because they're dry, they have no flavor, and you need a ton of syrup and whipped cream to eat them. I've honestly had better pancakes at iHOP/B than I've had here. My main issue with this place is the way they charge for the food! I don't mind old fashioned cash only and hand written receipts but at the very least I would like them to be legible. In total the bill came out to $45 plus $5 tax and $4.50 in additional charges. RIDICULOUS! We ended up spending $63 on BREAKFAST. That's a bit too pricey for my taste. Whenever my pancake cravings real it's head, I know coming here would satisfy that craving every time! This place is small and they utilize every square inch of space in here so it's tight. Considering how they are open from 8am to midnight yet still have a line out the door should say something about this place. I've had a few items here but I have to say the pancakes are my absolutely my favorite. It's the fluffiest pancake I have had and yet has a crispy outside so that crunch plus softness combo is A+ in my book. It's pretty big too portion wise, almost the size of the plate it's served in and it's a short stack of 2. I have seen other people eating higher stacks so maybe you can tell them to add or double your order for an extra fee. The calamari salad was a miss, so don't bother getting that. Their chicken paillard was also good, tender and not dry. The side salad that came with it was better than the calamari salad so if you want or feel like eating a salad, go with the arugula beet salad or the house salad. Overall, a lovely experience for me. The staff was friendly and pretty quick with their service despite being packed to the gills. If you don't want to wait long, go early. Even at 10am there was a 20min wait. I originally thought we messed up by coming here for dinner (and not brunch or "drunch"). But nope, the food was still amazing! If you have a choice, I would recommend coming here for weekend brunch or for their weeknight "drunch" (4pm to 7pm, which is a $20 prix fixe menu). They also have separate weeknight dinner specials that are pretty good: -Mondays: pasta -Tuesdays: Mussels -Wednesdays: Burgers -Thursdays: Wine/champagne Unfortunately, we came on a Friday after 7, so the only specials we got were $6 wine (pinot noir) and one specific cocktail (mojito at the time). That $6 pour of wine was a hefty one and pretty damn good, though! Anyway, for food, I had the crab burger. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved it. It came topped with a watercress and apple salad which was just perfect. And more fries than any reasonable person could eat (note: I am not a reasonable person, so I ate them all). Also tried the fried calamari, which was solid. Loved that it wasn't just boring rings and there were some tentacles involved. How do you make an octopus laugh? With ten tickles. Finally at Amal D.'s suggestion, I came to Cafe Luluc for a much needed brunch with my friend Chris. The cafe is conveniently located in Cobble Hill which made for a great little walk through the neighborhood. We got here around 12 pm on a Sunday and luckily there was no wait. We actually were able to score a table at the outdoor patio in the back which was quite nice... until a bee decided to torment me by hovering around my face every 5 minutes. I get it, you think I'm sweet, but buzz off before I curse you with CCD. It was one of those Sundays where I wanted a drink. Hm something spicy or something sweet? Let's go with spicy. I had the Bloody Mary to ease my headache which I must say was pretty good. Not the best I've had but it was definitely made from scratch with some good L&C. For food I ordered the Tuna Fish Club sandwich, he got the poached eggs with gravalax salmon, and we got an order of the famous pancakes to split. Now my sandwich wasn't bad by any means, but I didn't think it was delicious. I felt like it was a little dry and I forgot how much bread is in a club. Three slices of bread people!!! I wish the salad had had something sweet/with texture to make it a little more interesting like apples or cranberries... Again, not bad by any means I just felt like it wasn't fully satisfying me. However, the pancakes with fruit and maple syrup were great! I don't think I could ever eat the whole plate by myself as it would just be a total sugar/carb overload but these were so yummy. I don't know how they do it but the tops of the pancakes were slightly crispy. I'm just going to blame it all on butter and the Devil. The inside was so soft and fluffy that you just wanted to lie down and take a nap using the pancake as a pillow. Those little qualities really make these pancakes stand out in my mind. They also topped them with freshly cut bananas and strawberries. So freaking good. I think everyone should get an order of pancakes to share; they are the true winners. Overall I enjoyed my little trip to Cafe Luluc.
