Went to cafe 4 right when we got to Knoxville. Place was busy but we were lucky enough to sit at the bar and have Ruthie as our bartender. She was great and very attentive. We went back the next day and we had Nate. He was full of energy and we had a great time talking with him. We were even more lucky to have them both for bunch that Saturday. Food was really good, but interacting with the two of them really made for a great experience. read more

Love love love Cafe 4! Sitting on their patio while observing Market Square is one of my favorite things to do in Spring! My go to meal is the grilled cheese dipper with tomato bisque and the mac and cheese! When I'm with girlfriends, we always share a huge punch bowl of sangria. Love the environment and after trying many different menu items, I haven't been disappointed with one yet. I will note, after COVID, I felt like there was a shift in the food quality and management, but hopefully that issue has been resolved. Highly recommend! read more

Ordered takeout - truffle fries, chicken and waffles, grilled chicken sandwich, bread pudding, and coffee. Total bill came out to $75 (including tip). For a $12 truffle fries, we literally only got 12 pieces of fries that had no truffle shavings or oil, just a few dusting of kraft-like parmesan cheese. The bread pudding with ice cream, they placed it at the bottom of the takeout bag, under all the hot/warm food, which melted the ice cream.... The grilled chicken sandwich was okay. It was lacking flavor. The chicken and waffles were pretty good. We got a big piece of chicken breast that was crispy and spicy. Enjoyed the whipped potatoes, that was really good. read more

We have loved Cafe 4 since we were in college years ago, and made a recent visit while back in town since we live out of state. Service from Tesla was excellent! This place is still the best truffle fries I've ever eaten, and our Mac and cheese was also excellent. My wife had the lobster Mac and cheese, and I had the Nashville Hot Chicken Mac and cheese. Highly suggest this place if you're on Market Square! read more

I'm being generous giving three stars, and to be honest that's for the atmosphere - because it's absolutely wonderful as far as that goes. Our waiter never brought out our appetizer despite reminding him several times. He never checked on us, not a single time. There were four of us there on a Monday afternoon. The food took just over twenty minutes to come out. And it looks so delicious, but it's not and it is so disappointing. Just a bummer! read more

The food in the service were great. The variety of offerings was excellent and it's just a fun place to be.

First of all, the photos of the food are what helped narrow down our decision to go here for date night. Everything looked so dang good and we knew we wanted to explore Market Square and the surrounding streets. We made a reservation and the restaurant was located really close to the Market Square parking garage. Cute little outdoor patio and a beautiful interior. We were greeted and seated (rhyme intended...enjoy) quickly. The ambiance was perfect for a date night or girl's night out. And may I add that the lighting at each table is MADE for awesome IG pics? Now for the "meh" portion of the night and I will end on some high notes. Since we were planning to order the fried green tomato app, I decided to order the Pecan Salmon dish to keep it a bit lighter. This was a bad choice...at least on this night. *sigh* The brussel sprouts were way too crispy, charred and the salmon overcooked as well. The carrots were undercooked and crunchy (I needed a steak knife to cut through them) and my husband laughed at the raw crunch noise they made made while I attempted to gnaw through them. The pecans simply sat on top of the salmon with no sauce or detectable glaze binding everything together. My husband had a bite of all and mentioned that they seemed to forget seasoning anything on my dish. It desperately needed salt, pepper, and a sauce. What a disappointment as one of our first post-COVID meals out, especially since it was a fairly pricey dish. They were also out of lobster mac and cheese, which was a main reason we chose this restaurant to begin with. The fried green tomatoes were very good with a cornmeal coating. The relish was okay, but the balsamic and goat cheese were the amazing additions. They came with 5 in the order, as an FYI so no one fights over them. ;-) My husband got the shrimp and grits dish and it was incredibly flavorful and well-cooked. I definitely had food envy and looked at his longingly until he had pity and gave me a bite (which he normally doesn't do willingly. ha!). His only complaint was that the shrimp tails were left on, which is messy and challenging with so much sauce and there weren't many shrimp to begin with. read more

Cafe 4? more like cafe forever never getting your food. To be fair, the food can be decent or just okay depending on which city you're from...but really really really bad service! We went with a group of about 10 people, and waited for at least an hour for our food. They never came to give us water (had to ask for it), or give us updates on our food, even after we checked up on them multiple times. After the food was finally served, and we complained about the wait, they NEVER came to apologize either. Maybe they did to one of us but I did not see any of them come and apologize to the whole group. They did give us a discount on our food but I can't believe the quality of service was so bad. A discount was simply not enough. read more

We were promptly sat at a table on the patio. It was a nice night out. It was actually pleasant absent the street performer screeching the same 4 notes over and over just outside the fence line. He went at it the entire time we were there. Short story short. Service was okay. We asked about a hazy IPA the waitress brought us something that was not an IPA and it was not good.
