Cons - small portion for broiled salmon like two table spoons of greens and beans as a side and ceasar side salad that was barely average. They charged me a nearly 4% fee for using my debit card, which is ILLEGAL. CHARGING ME TO US MY OWN MONEY? A CC, okay but NOT a debit! See research in pictures. Plus 18.00 tax and gratuity it put me over another 50.00. Will not be going back, they care only about giving less for more. Stood at front in waiting area for awhile til anyone acknowledged us, to say "just give me a minute." Sure not in a rush, we can wait. We were seated. Girl handed us menus and asked if we were ready to order. (I hadn't even taken off my coat yet.). We said we would need a moment. Several minutes later she asked what we wanted to drink. 2 ordered only water and 2 ordered a soda as well. They brought some water about 5+ minutes later. And took our orders. 5-10 min later they brought bread (it is very good.) That was consumed and we sat with our waters waiting on the appetizers we ordered. Which came and went (being fair the fried mozzarella cheese was delicious). When the apps came, I reminded them 2 of us had ordered soda. The girl gave me a line that she knew guest X in our party had ordered a soda (she hadn't ordered one, only water). And the waitress said she didn't hear us order any sodas. Then she also pointed at Guest X's empty water glass and said "she drank her soda already.!" --- again she never ordered soda and never got a soda. After asking 2 more time and eventually a different waitress walking by, we got our 2 sodas as we were halfway through the meal. So in the middle of all that we did get our soups/ salads, which I believe have been mentioned in prior posts. The pasta fagoili was somehow very spicy but lacking all flavor, not to mention it had obviously sat in a pot all day (maybe even from day prior as it mushed like baby food.). The salad my Husband got was literally lettuce a handful of cheese and a cherry tomato. After appetizers and soup/salad there was a lack of interaction and awkward pause, making us question if our food was coming. Eventually it came and was ok. ResoectAble but nothing on its own to make up for the awful service. Around the middle of the meal a second waitress started helping and she asked if we needed boxes and such. We had just asked our server and said she was supposedly on her was with them. Waitress #2. Was very friendly and helpful. She went ahead and took our food to box up and waitress one never came back except to hand us the bill. My daughter had ordered a meal that came with dessert. We had to remind waitress 1 that, My husband delayed paying til she got the dessert (it was rice pudding and waitress one put all of a quarter cup of rice pudding... idk if that is what the restaurant considers a serving.) It is a shame, the restaurant is just stunning. The food overall is not bad at all (just soups and salads, pre prepped foods were blah.) The bread was very tasty too. I think they would do much better with some retraining on customer service and time management so people don't sit the for 1 1/2 hours for a meal that they were getting because they were hungry and passing by but didn't want junk food. Let me start off by saying the food and hostess were great. Although, the biggest issue my girlfriend and I ran into was how we made a reservation at 8:30pm, then didn't get sat down until almost a quarter till 10, their closing time. When we arrived, there were about 20+ people in there that all had the same 8:30 reservation. So I'm not sure if someone completely overlooked it or just didn't realize everyone would show up for their reservation, but either way it was completely unprofessional. read more

The food is superb here. This is why my wife and I come back. Our favorites are the Seafood Linguine and Charred Rib Steak as well as the hummus and pita and lamb. The service at the bar here is mediocre, at best, considering the rest of the environment feels a little more appreciating. It has gone downhill within the past year or two which is why we stopped visiting with friends. We visited twice in two weeks to see if it improved. Once, it was just the two of us and another couple and this past weekend when it was slightly busier. It was the same bartender that was always disappearing to the back, hard to get drinks filled and seemed aloof and inexpert to her guests. We can't recall her name. Red hair and jumpy. Seemed like a fish out of water. We really enjoyed Sherry when we would visit but were told she left the establishment because of the owner and staff. We may be back to dine in the restaurant area but the bar here needs work and adequately staffed with appropriate bartenders. We felt sorry to see the decline in business. The food was good and reasonably priced. Our server, Vanessa, was great. We had our drink order taken very promptly. She continuously updated us, refilled drinks and offered additional service. The big fail point was the kitchen. It took about a half hour to get our grilled octopus for our appetizer. It took almost an hour to get our entrees. I ordered salmon Benedict and whomever cooked my dish made the biggest error you can make with eggs Benedict: overcooked the poached eggs. They remedied this about 10 to 15 minutes later and fortunately was tasty. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and hoped that those who remarked about the service lacking was wrong. I don't know what was or wasn't going on in the kitchen. For a Sunday afternoon and not being very busy, it really shouldn't have taken that long. read more

My husband and I have been to this restaurant many times: I feel it may be our last. In the past we have enjoyed their 3 course meals. He always gets the pork chops and I get the Haddock with greens. Yesterdays dinner was worse than the time my husband got meat binder twine mixed in with his mashed potatoes. Even though they did nothing to apologize for the error, we returned. But this time I need to vent. Starting with his Pork Chops. Is it enough to say we brought most of them home in a doggy bag. After smelling them while I was chopping them up , for the dog, I decided to throw them away. There was no seasoning on anything he had. On to my meal: I had the worse greens I have ever had. They tasted like they had been boiled in water, no seasoning at all, then dumped on my plate. The fish was ok. Lastly, we waited for 20- 25 minutes from the time we finished our main meal until we got our dessert. REALLY PEOPLE!! $64 dollars later . . . I wish I had gone to the Hot Dog Shop. We tipped our waitress, in her defense she had no control over having a reserved party of 15-20 people and being given other tables. There were a couple "supervisors " walking around who could have stepped up to help her but they did not. read more

We went there tonight with a group of 14 people to celebrate a wedding anniversary. I can say without reservation that the food was excellent and the service very good. And given the quality the pricing is very reasonable too. And above all, the tiramisu was the best I have ever had in the United States ! Manager was teaching us how to use plates as if we don't know how to eat and constantly making the room feel very uncomfortable and reaching over us and touching us when doing so! We got off to a bit of an odd start. We were waiting at the hostess desk and a very frazzled looking woman ran by and said, "be with you in a minute". We waited several minutes and a guy showed up to seat us as the frazzled woman came running back and grabbed the menus. We ended up sitting in the bar as we wanted a booth. Our waitress came a few minutes later and took drink orders and said she would be back with waters. The guy who originally tried to seat us showed up a minute later with water. So far so good until the waitress came back with our drink order plus the promised water! Worried about the lack of coordination, we ordered an appetizer (calamari) and entrees. The food was very good and we were served pretty quickly. Calamari was nicely cooked and the entrees done well. I had the sea bass special that was a tad peppery but still good. My husband and I have been here many times before, and had great service/food. The last two times we have been here in the past month (sat at the bar both times) were horrible!! The food was good, but the service was substandard. We've been treated better at O'Charley's! Back in Oct. 2018 my husband's pizza came out waaaay before my tuna. He was done with his meal before I even started mine!! And last night it was the complete opposite! My tuna came out, I ate, I finished and he still was waiting on his pizza. Never mind the baked potato appetizer he ordered - never came out. It took us over an hour to eat at the bar, and the restaurant wasn't even that busy! Sad to say we won't be back. Skip this place. Ordered a black and blue salad on mixed greens. What came out was cold steak cubes on top of cold soggy greasy fries on a bed of romaine. The romaine was the bottom of the bag, I'm certain. It was largely the stalk. Not much green. I quickly removed the potatoes and ate most of the rest. Stopped in for a quick lunch. Along our drive. We were greeted by the owner who shook my hand and sat us. We sat in the lounge. And the bartender was covering the whole bar and lounge herself. So she was a little overwhelmed it seemed. ie. we weren't brought waters unless ordered and service was slow. However to her credit We could tell she was really working hard. So kudos to her. As said before their homemade bread is to die for. Made fresh every morning, accompanied with their FAMOUS hot peppers and oil. I ordered their pastrami sandwich and Allie got one of their famous dishes. Chicken francaise. Both came out fresh and hot and tasted delicious. The francaise was a little too lemony for our tastes, it was still mouth watering good. For you salad folks 422 balsamic vinegarette is made in house and is amazing. I buy it by the pint and take it home. Better than anything store bought. I love how the owner stepped in to help our server and he stopped by to check in on our meal. Something doesn't happen as much as it should everywhere else, it nice to see an owner involved, whole-heartedly, to always be visible and making rounds to all the tables to thank his customers for their business. I will most definitely be coming here any chance I get. Their menu is awesome. No wonder this place has been around for so long. 2014 marks their 75 anniversary. I want to be there when hey hit 100. We eat out often in the Youngstown area, with all the great food choices available here we thought Cafe 422 would be no exception and be as good inside as it looked on the outside. Believe me if you are driving by, continue to do so! The greens, beans and sausage appetizer was overcooked to a soup like consistency with a small chunk of sausage slapped on top. We both ordered the Surf an turf special, mine with a caesar salad that they charged $2 extra for anchovies and then gave me none. My wife had a medium well steak and a lobster tail, the tail l was so over cooked and dried out it was beige colored meat and flat, the steak was medium rare and when sent back came out blackened but pink inside. My scallops, both of the little things were chewy and salty. We ordered a to go order of fettuccine alfredo and pumpkin cheese cake, when we got to my Mothers no cheesecake. We tried to tell the waiter who was obviously new or just tired of people complaining constantly about the crap they were served but all he said was I will tell the chef,to which I replied you barely have a cook. We will continue to drive by Cafe 422 on our way to Micheal Alberini's, Niccolini's, Steamers and many other great establishments in this area. read more
