Cafe 57 knocked it out of the park today. The double pork roll breakfast sandwich was outstanding and puts the chain breakfast places to shame. The Taylor ham was stacked both above and below the eggs, with creamy melted cheese, salt, pepper, and ketchup on a fresh Kaiser roll. It was loaded and absolutely delicious. I also tried the Italian hero without the bread, made into a chopped salad piled high with all the meats, cheese, and toppings. It had all the flavor of a great Italian hoagie without missing the roll. The real bonus was the blueberry cobbler muffin. I saw on Facebook that they had just come out of the oven, and about an hour later I was heading to Cafe 57. It was fresh, moist, packed with blueberries, and every bit as good as it looked. Great food, generous portions, and the kind of quality and freshness you just don't get from the big chains. Highly recommended! read more

Wow, just wow. It's hard for me to give a 5 star review. This little family run shoppe deserves the best ratings and views. My wife and I stopped for a lunch, needed some food. Grabbed a good ol "Jersey Meat", egg, and cheese for my first stop ever at Cafe 57 in Washington, NJ. Met up with my friend Jen for lunch but I had breakfast heavy on my mind. Decided to add a hash brown (I always do if it's an option) and rounded it out with a Joe's tea (rare to see the diet ones so I was pumped about that). Came to $10 total. The sandwich was solid. The meat was sliced thin and there was a decent char to it. I think for the cost they could have tossed on a few more slices, but I'm not mad about it either. I'd like to try some other items here in the future, I've heard a lot of talk about some of their lunch sandwiches as well as their baked goods. Either way Cafe 57 - Didn't Suck! read more

Years ago there used to be a community feel with good deals and a welcoming environment. Until one day I was greeted by the owner and some delivery man getting into a shouting match in front of all the patrons. Slowly the business went down hill and not only removed all the deals but the owner got increasingly more agitated. The straw that broke the camel's back was the owner decided to direct his napoleon complex onto customers. Food Network's Sunny Anderson vouched for this place so I HAD to try it out. They're known in the area for their cheesesteaks and lately, for their chopped Italian hoagie. But they're also known for their awesome baked goods, more specifically, their cinnamon buns. That's what I woke up craving so to Cafe 57 I went. So many varieties of rolled up goodness to choose from. Nutella cheesecake buns. Apple buns. Run-of-the-mill cinnamon buns. But what caught my eye was the blueberry cheesecake crumb roll. There were blueberries so they HAD to be SLIGHTLY healthy, right? Craving satisfied! Boy, was it delicious! At first, I thought there was a lot going on but it was just so good! It teetered on the edge of undercooked in the center but I'm a lover of an undercooked cinnamon bun! I intentionally save the middle because I like that underdoneness. With all honesty, I really liked the bun but I hated the price. As good as it was, it wasn't worth the price. I have never, ever paid $8.50 for a cinnamon bun. Not even in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. With every bite, I kept thinking about how much it was. Sad, I know. The owner & his daughter were warm and friendly but unless I'm in my 2nd trimester and DYING for a cinnamon bun, I can't see myself going back anytime soon. Meh. I'm guessing a bulk hamburger patty is what, maybe $2, and a Kaiser roll around 75 cents. Add in a forkful of bland coleslaw, a pickle spear and a can of Diet Coke. Let's not forget the gas to cook it, and the time of the chef, maybe $4 to cover the 4 minutes. My price, $14. Oh, and as has been pointed out elsewhere, the cook def is a very cranky guy. read more

Went to go visit my friends over the weekend and our first stop was here again from Maryland. This time around, we ordered the classic cheesesteak and it didn't disappoint. The portions are huge so we were prepared this time. I split the sub with my husband at had some water to wash it down. Because we left around 3am, we missed out again on having their pastries! Review: Cafe 57, 486 NJ-57, Washington. Solid 4.5. Only thing missing is good homemade sides (potato, Mac, coleslaw salads). All about the sub, it rates a 5.0. Minimal parking out front but sufficient for the area. Limited area to sit and eat, five tables I think. Not much in the area of side salads but fresh bakery goods. The ones they have are Thumans. They serve breakfast entrees. This sub-shop is a gem. It's been around for five years but I just tried it today for the first time. I figure I'm behind the curve on trying it for that first time but just in case any present has also been missing out I'm posting about it. Its just south past the Warren Community College campus and across the street from it. The place is obviously well maintained (clean) and the counter folks (I believe they are the owners, I'll ask next time) are friendly. 10 inch sub for $11. Not bad. The Italian sub I had was on fresh sub roll, fresh produce (lettuce/tomato/onion) and almost twice the meat I've seen on similar subs at the same price range elsewhere. True quality. Shop-Rite Greenwich deli is a bit cheaper but this is better, and faster in and out. Though S-R @ Greenwich still has the add of all those side salads and bread choices. Cafe 57 is the better sub style sandwich and easier to call ahead to have ready for pick-up. 10" and 20" subs. Well worth checking out. read more

Everything we've tried here so far has been fantastic, served piping hot and nostalgic. - Reuben sandwich - burger cheesesteak - classic cheesesteak - breakfast burrito - caramel pecan cinnamon roll - apple cinnamon roll Their menu is pretty expansive. They have a chalkboard with specials. Very friendly folks that work here. The baked goods are made in-house from scratch. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with all the smells; it's hard not to get a cinnamon roll, cupcake or cookie. Will definitely be coming back to try other items. read more

So I've been there twice and both times the food was great. I had a cheesesteak and a "chicken" cheesesteak. They stuff the sandwich with everything and I wasn't disappointed at all. The food was fast. The people working was nice. I guess the owner is the cook also and his personality is pretty typical NJ. Nice guy. The inside is fine. Definitely clean. I wish it was better. When they first opened they were really good and they listened to your order and executed it well, unfortunately they consistently get it wrong now. Over the past few years I find us going here less and less often. The owner is no longer as friendly and often is gruff answering the phone for orders and just overall hard to read. The phone etiquette alone usually prevents us from even calling in an order. He has also expanded his cinnamon bun menu so much that they have lost quality and instead have only quantity and type as the impressive factor. The original was dry and the blueberry lemon was a soggy sponge. Disappointing that he broadened his horizons and forgot the basics of being approachable and putting out something of high quality. I hope to see them improve and make customer service a priority. read more

What a treat especially in the barren wasteland of eateries in Warren County! If you have a crazy idea, they'll make it if they haven't already thought it up. I had a Taylor ham, spam and fried bologna with a hash brown on top of double eggs and cheese. A crazy idea I came up with that they cooked up with ease! To be honest I never thought I would find an old school italian deli / french bakery located on a small highway. When you first come in you are greeted by a case filled with pastries and cupcakes. But what gets you is the delightful smells from the grill YUM. The menu is expansive. I had an old school sausage and peppers with onions and cheese on garlic bread roll. It was sooo good. Brought me back to my childhood. Simple but oh so good. The star was what my husband ordered. A hot roast beef gravy cheese burger. It was soo delicious! The roast beef tender and flavorful! Not too much salt. Honestly a winner. He has a pastry that is half eclair half Italian cannoli. Serious its baked and so good. He is a master at pastry cream. The owners are soo nice and personable. This new little spot popped up in town right across from the community college. As a former Michigander one thing we miss is amazing middle eastern food.
