My husband and I stopped in for lunch this afternoon. This is a really neat cafe that has a variety of Filipino pastries and tea as well as a variety of coffee drinks. They offer two sandwiches: grilled cheese and turkey pesto. We ordered two grilled cheese sandwiches with a vanilla latte and a zebra latte both poured over ice. It wasn't long before the grilled cheese sandwiches with potato chips and our coffee drinks arrived. The grilled cheese was ooey gooey yumminess with thick Swiss cheese oozing out of it and each bite was thick and hearty. The potato chips were delicious and the coffee drinks superb. The Zebra latte had chocolate and vanilla mixed together in it. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere is lively. It is decorated with repurposed wood and other things he has found to give it a second life. There is a industrial urban vibe inside. This cafe is one of a kind and very unique. We enjoyed our meal and relaxing. I recommend this lovely cafe if you want to try something different and have delicious drinks, pastries or sandwiches. read more

After seeing Cafe 86 all over Instagram, they've finally set up shop in Las Vegas. Mrs. Q and I have been here twice so far, and we're fans! Service is pleasant, and we've never ran into the situation of anything being 86'd (kitchen lingo for an item that is sold out) which is what I originally thought the "86" meant (It is actually an homage to the owner's husband's 1986 Toyota Supra) Cafe 86's GRILLED CHEESE is simple, straightforward, and delicious... The UBE MONSTER MILKSHAKE is perfect for any ube addict braving this Vegas heat... Surprisingly, I wasn't a fan of the popular UBE FLAN CUPCAKE. The flan layer was dense and very sweet, and the cupcake was dry. This is what they're known for, this is what people come in and hoard. It's one and done for me. Philippines meets Mexico as calamansi and agua de jamaica combine in the HIBISCUS CALAMANSI COOLER...(Free with your Yelp Check-In! GO!!!) Deliciously refreshing, and a lifesaver after each bite of the ube flan cupcake. The UBE CHEESECAKE is very decadent and use caution when biting into the crust as it is pretty solid and thick. I like that they've taken the national dessert of the Philippines and made it their own by incorporating a cereal milk slushy layer with frosted flakes, giving a different flavor dimension in the HALO-HALO. I have been meaning to try Cafe 86 not only cause of the hype but it literally down the street from my house. Not say Ube crazy fanatic but nothing wrong with getting your Ube kick on. Cafe 86 without doubt took care of that in four different ways. It only barely touching the surface with the menu. I came in the afternoon. I took other yelpers advice because the later you go the more they run out of stuff. Not that unheard of concept in Vegas besides peeps bakery the best time go first thing in the morning! The smell of all that fresh baked goodies. No doubt walked into Cafe 86 had that beautiful smell to kick start ones day. I was torn apart where I should start my first Cafe 86 visit? I went little Ube crazy went for two each. I got the Ube cupcakes with flan, cheesecakes, ube bars, and ube macaroons. All the stuff out in the display got covered. heehee. Plus had get ube drink. Forgot the name of it. I got the most popular one the worker told me was the hot seller. I started with macaroon. Talk about HUGE for macaroon. Nothing small of tiny about the ones at Cafe 86. Not that one dunk my macaroons in anything. But put size in perspective need extra size coffee mug dunk it. It was amazing. It was nice soft, fluffy, moist, and right balance of Ube. I went for the bars. It hearty bar. Just to finish one was pretty filling. The cupcake for me stole my ube heart. The combination between the flan and the cupcake. The different textures was out of this world amazing. To take both components separate would die for and could order all day. The cupcake was nice size and the flan on top or custard perfect. It had nice golden brown color, rich, creamy, and combine that with moist perfect cupcake. Cupcake that blows one mind. I never had cupcake like that before. The cheesecake was good. Nothing that really stood out for me. Honestly I had so much Ube and different ones might have killed the taste for me. One thing found consistent in all the goodies I order. The balance of the Ube was spot on, great portion size not fancy high end tiny tease bits of desserts, and you know bit into it the freshness everyday make new batch. The interior is pretty cool. It definitely spot that you could hang out chill with friends. Two spilt levels that can hang out. The second level more open area that have oversize jenga blocks, and one more think oversize game. Notice they had couple board games that you play too. I enjoy the way all the pastries are displayed in glass cases. The way they package everything appreciate they have special containers perfect fit for cupcakes and cheesecakes. If want take them home eat looks the same when you left. The menu chalkboard style nothing electronic. The artwork on some of the walls enjoy old school true art. They have couple little interior decors that gives the place personality for me. The hype is not real with this one. I don't get this place. Given how they advertise themselves on IG, I came in here thinking this was more of a bakery with a few drinks here and there. But nope, it's apparently the other way around. Cafe 86 is more of a boba/coffee shop with a few pastries. I don't know about you guys, but I came here to try their pastries.. and 2 out of the 3 times I have gone there, they barely had anything left. If you're going to heavily advertise your pastries everywhere on social media, maybe you should focus on having them readily available. First visit, they had no pastries available.. and we came around 3pm. Since we were already there, we decided to go ahead and try a drink. I asked the cashier what she recommended, and she said that the Ube Monster was popular - so thats what I ordered. I guess it's supposed to be like a Ube and Cookies&Cream milkshake. I hated it. It had very little Ube flavor and just tasted like milk. The cookies weren't even throughout the whole drink. All they did was put some cookies at the bottom of the cup, and on top. Pretty lame. Super disappointing and do not recommend. 2nd visit, they had only ube truffles available.. and we came around 5pm. We also did the Yelp check-in for a free Hibiscus Cooler. The ube truffle had good ube flavor, but the texture wasn't to my liking. My toddler ended up eating it all though. The Hibiscus Cooler was pretty terrible - it literally tasted like water. Another disappointing visit. 3rd and final visit, we came in around 11am and was finally able to try the Ube Leche Flan Cupcakes. We also ordered the Mermaid Drink with Boba (Sea Salt Green Tea), an Ube Truffle, and got the free Hibiscus Cooler again (hoping it wouldn't be watery like last time). Was super excited to try the cupcakes, since that was what this place is known for.. but was pretty let down. The cupcake was hard and dense! I felt like I was eating play-doh or something. I'm sorry, but that's not how a cupcake should be. The only saving grace was the flan, but even that was just okay. We ended up just eating the flan and tossing the "cupcakes" away. Both drinks we got tasted watered down yet again, and the boba had no flavor. Yet another disappointing visit. Also, what is up with the the theme of this place? It's all over the place. It's like they just took everything they like and threw it all together, even though it makes no sense at all. Star Wars, cars, Filipino sun, mermaid drink, _____ monster drinks, zebra drink? So happy to hear that they opened a location here in Vegas. My sister and I waited and drove by occasionally to see their progress and were so excited for them to open. We came during their opening week and was so happy that we live so close to the location (Jones and Russell). The ube cupcake with leche flan is a must have! Although I've been on a diet, don't eat too much sweets, this was one thing I could not turn down! The ube cupcake was cooked to perfection, soft and just melted in my mouth. The leche flan was perfectly sweet. (*eat using a plate or with a napkin because the syrup from the flan does leak and tends to get all over the place) I brought a few cupcakes to work and my non-Filipino coworkers who have never had either ube or flan fell in love with them also! Such a cool vibe in the place with tons of games and decorations to play with and look at while waiting for your order. The teas!!! I also asked for a Seasalt Coffee (coincidently forgetting I am non-dairy). I brought it up to them. They were super understanding about it and switched it out for one with soymilk. Chill spot. Friendly staff. We loved everything we tried- Ube Concha Cupcake, Skyflake Crack Cookie and the best was the Ube Crack Cupcake. It's cool to find place that's selling something different than your average coffee shop. They had quite a selection of Hot and cold creative drinks as well but we were too full to try any of them. Although they are located away from the busy streets of Chinatown, they are pretty busy! Got there right before busy time though. When we got there, there were just a few people in line, like 3 people before us. As soon as we got our order in, boom! Everyone decided to show up. I turned around and then see about 15 people standing in line. Not surprised though, everything there from decor to service to food was great!!! Just a bit disappointed that they didn't have high chair but we dealt with it. It has finally arrived! Thank you Cafe 86 for finally opening your doors to the Las Vegas valley! I had to see what the hype was about and so glad that we came and it did not disappoint. We arrived yesterday at 11AM....as soon as they opened to ensure we had a good spot and there wasn't a long line. Let's just say that was a good move. My family and I stayed for 2 1/2 hours yesterday. Just enjoying the food and playing Jenga. The restaurant was spacious and in my opinion, it had nice decorations. The atmosphere was nice. It was CLEAN! Yay! We tried a couple of things ..... Ube bread pudding...OMG! It will change your life! This is a MUST have! I don't usually like bread pudding but my sister insisted we get one. I'm so glad we did. They warm it up and then put a big scoop of Ube ice cream on top! The consistency was not like your typical bread pudding (I think that is why I liked it even more). The flavor of the Ube just came right out even without the ice cream. Ube Flan Cupcake - not a fan. It was nothing special. The cupcake itself was dense. Not moist. Lacked flavor. Truffles - LOVE IT! it was sweet but delicious...no wonder why it was small but honestly the perfect size! Ube Monster - nothing special - honestly, I've had better Ube shakes elsewhere. Halo Halo - not the traditional style. It didn't have the "beans" like a real halo halo does. They had Jello type mixtures but it was still delicious. Churrochi - Another, WOW! It's not a typical churro where it has a crunchy outside. It looks like that but it's not. It tastes like a churro but it has the consistency of mochi. You have the option of getting Ube ice crea on it or not. If you do, it's an additional $1.50. I personally don't mind not having the ice cream as I had it on almost everything else. I loved it! It wasn't as sweet as it looked. It had the perfect sweetness. Hibiscus Calamansi - so good and refreshing (free with Yelp Check-in) Thai Tea Brownie - too rich! I have a sweet tooth but this was way too sweet for my liking. I didn't even think it tasted like thai tea. The staff from what a noticed were a lot of younger "kids/adults" but there were very nice. Met and chatted with the owner and she was also very kind. She was very down to earth and even gave my sister and I a little background of the couple. All I have to say is, don't give Cafe 86 a bad rating just because they run out of pastries. They just opened. They didn't know how much of a hit it would be. I paid $17 to Uber from The Cosmopolitan to Cafe 86...expensive I know but it's totally worth it! What to Get: 1) Ube Leche Flan Cupcake: THESE ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Super moist cupcakes bursting with ube goodness. I love it served cold as the flan on top of the cupcake provides such a rich and creamy caramel layer to the "already perfect" pastry. This new spot is perfect for the Filipinos out there wanting to try something new. Don't get me wrong, other peeps should come to, but for you Filipinos wanting nostalgia, check it out. We ordered a coffee boba, cookies boba, and halo halo. The top of my halo halo had ube and instead of pinipig they added a crunchy cereal topping with a slice of Flan. It was absolutely amazing. It all tied in magically. I won't lie, I wasn't a fan of the liquid part of the drink, but everything was great. My cousin's and boyfriends were much better. My favorite of it all had to be the ube and flan cupcake. Can you tell I'm a fan of the two? It's frigging UBE (taro) and FLAN. Who wouldn't love that? I practically devoured it. So glad they made it to Vegas! Open airy space with lots of tables and chairs, as well as jumbo jenga. They always play good music too! Staff is always super friendly. They have a nice selection of pastries. My fave is the thai tea brownie. Super moist and chocolatey brownie with a hint of thai tea flavor. Ube Madeleine also are great. Sweet and moist with hint of coconut. Red velvet glan cupcake is a must try this a great combo! You get silky smooth flan and dense cake with each yummy bite! I came in as recommended by others and want to see what the hype was about. Umm...it was just ok. I like ube, so I got the ube monster drink. First of all, it took about 10-15 mins to make me the drink...really, did they boiled and blend the actual ube to order? I saw the workers in the back just taking their sweet time and chatting with each others. Then the taste of the drink was ok, the oreo cookie crumbs kind of take away the ube flavor, but it was a nice touch tho. I also got a piece of ube butter bar. It was also just ok, taste good but not exceptional which I would come back for more. It is a relaxing environment to hang out. Definitely if i ever return, I would try the halo halo drink instead. Their ube latte does not contain coffee. Yeah read that again. Their. Ube. Latte. Does. Not. Contain. Coffee. If you were dumbfounded by that statement, then you share my confusion when I ordered an ube latte from this place. I ordered the ube latte and the kid asked me if I wanted to add espresso shots to it. Being a coffee fiend myself, I was a little taken back but I asked, "well how many shots are in it normally?" He responded, "there's no coffee in it." Here I am, dumbfounded thinking I'm hearing things I asked slowly, "...your ube LATTE...has...no...coffee...in...it.....?" He said, "yeah." By definition a latte is espresso with steamed milk, yet their ube latte has no coffee?? Then what's in it?!?! So I said to put 2 shots of espresso in it. When I finally got my drink, took my first sip.....I said out loud, "wow. Wtf am I drinking here?" It tasted neither like ube nor a latte. McDonald's $1.69 coffee tastes better that their ube "latte." This isn't my first encounter with this chain either. I first came across them in so cal where I had their monster ube shake. Again, was not impressed and never felt like visiting again. This location has been here for several years now so I caved in and tried because I said, "hey, they stayed in business this long somehow right?!" So now I've tried two locations in two states and both were just unimpressive. I've had ube latte throughout the west coast from Washington all the way down to California. I've had ube lattes that tasted exactly how you imagined an ube latte should taste and I guarantee you that this ube "latte" from cafe 86 is the worst I've had. Steer clear of it!! read more

Great inventive and fun menu. Everything I ordered taste delicious and had it's own signature taste. The Thai Tea Brownie is very tasty, well balanced richness of the dark chocolate brownie with the toned down thai tea cheesecake. Good choice if you're looking for the fudgy rich dessert. The Skyflakes Crack Cookie was also really delicious. I can understand why it was named that. I dont have the biggest sweet tooth so I thought all of it was sweet, but then again it's a dessert place. Still, the sweetness balanced well with the flavor. The drinks were also good. The Hibiscus Calamansi tasted great, sweet with a little of tart, very refreshing. The Taro Latte was also very good, though it bordered on too sweet for a latte. They didnt have an extensive food menu (just two sandwich choices) and the grilled cheese was nothing special, so that was a bit of a letdown. The one I would definitely come back for is the White Coconut Creme Hot Tea. The loose leaf tea had really great flavors, subtly sweet, strong coconut flavor. Definitely recommend that. The venue had a pretty hipster vibe, laid back and chill. Though, I wouldnt recommend coming here to work. I came to write my novel and it was loud. It wasnt the establishment's fault though, the music was a good level. There was just a huge party that came in and made the place loud. It seemed however that was pretty common. I love the layout. Plenty of space and tables to hang out and chill. A lot of options for drinks- and of course the ube/taro root heavy desert menu. My favorite so far is the flan ube cupcake. Ube is a so/so flavor for me...not really a favorite. I usually go for the pandan/coconutty stuff, only because it takes a lot of root and probably sugar and crap to really bring out ube flavor. With that being said- I'm impressed with their bakery. You really get the UBE flavor from this flan cupcake. Flan is also on point, & together with the little ube cake- is just worth the detour i made from my diet. We also tried the ube cheesecake, Thai tea & matcha brownies, & a cookie topped with potato chips & i believe Nutella. I forget what they call it- but it was the bomb.. everything else listed above is good, but didn't stand out as much to me. The winner overall is the ube flan. They ran out of the ube bars which was kinda disappointing. I was looking forward to it. We were still in line and watched the last of it chip away while we waited. You figure if it's a real popular item, they'd keep up with the demand but ‍. Oh- I had the sea salt coffee- it just tasted like coffee?? Nothing special, but my sister did say the ube shake is really good. My son is also a fan of the cookie butter shake. I'd come back! The ube flan is worth another visit. So wifey had been waiting for this place to open for a long time... finally we went in today. Wifey had a Halo-halo craze so we went for it. They didnt have the traditional style, in where every ingredient are intact. Basically the blend some of it, then boba was added some red and green jellies and on top, ube ice cream and leche flan. I mean it tasted pretty good, but i feel like it lacks more of the stuff that you actually chew. The "halo-halo" concept isnt really what it is. Ordered in on a Sunday, 4:06pm as per my receipt, after placing my order they put my order slip on a que. There was a lot of orders to be made, but the cashier didnt mention any wait time. Came back to check on my order after 25mins and still wasnt done. =/ yes, i looked at the time difference as i was getting frustrated. Then couple of more minutes finally came. Service was horrible as far as getting the orders out, yet staff were friendly. I feel like they werent prepared yet as to handling huge crowds walking in. Absolutely need more than 2 blenders because its not enough. Looking forward in a few weeks that they have better service and more control over the flow of business. read more

Mabuhay!!! So proud to find a home away from home (CA) away from home (PH). Been looking forward to see you Café 86 after our Mr. Mamas the other day! I knew this is a Pinoy spot after checking out their Yelp menu (Uber overload in all their food) Love their Ube butter bar (that kind of Ube that would make you crave for more) Milky Ube!! (heard me clapping right?) Actually this is way better than couple of Ube's I've tasted back in the Philippines while growing up! We ordered the Halo Halo too which is good and heck yeah! serving is HELLA HUGE! GET their halo halo ok?!!! We also had their ube leche flan and this is the kind of ube (old school) you would always have from ube makers back home! Love the leche flan on the top! One thing i notice was even though you'll see Ube mostly on their food, it would surely offer you different kinds of taste, whether its a milky type, a sweet style or an old school pinoy ube. They suprised me! Thanks for bringing me home Cafe 86! *Suggest: -check the sofa (i found a used spoon) -as first timer, we didn't notice the spoon/fork area so its better to always, always point where we can get it. (didn't get any tissue when we took our order too) -if order is for here, better to have the food in a lil plate/saucer (less mess for us when biting it) -soon try to dim the window near the high chair, it would be cozier for us Cafe 86 fans apir! Instagram photos do wonders for a business's following, especially a Filipino Ube cafe originating from LA and finally opening in Vegas. At 4pm on a Sunday after they first opened doors, there's no line, there's also no selection of pastries. Make sure you get here early if you want dibs on that Leche flan ube cupcake. Luckily we were able to snag the last one. Their sky flake cookie is pretty delicious. Doesn't taste like sky flakes but has the texture of a cracker. My ube milk tea was okay. Tasted like halo halo milk soaked in cereal. I think I'll try the Ube Monster next time. With all the Filipinos in town wanting to try halo halo, because it's halo halo, they need to get more blenders and an ice shaver into the repertoire. 2 isn't cutting it and causing a back up for blended drinks in this 100 degree weather. I'm sitting here now at 4:30 pm and my friend has been waiting 30 minutes for her non-halo halo drink- the Ube monster. While the drink is delicious and refreshing, hopefully once the hype dies down and kinks in the system are worked out, then it won't be as patience testing of an experience. read more
