I've always frequent the french workshop at Bayside so I am aware of all their offerings! What's better at Astoria is all the seating they have! The location is bigger, more spacious and as you walk in on the left, you see the kitchen, which was pretty neat. Came to Astoria to meet a friend and spent some time here. I usually pick up bread or dessert but this time, we had some breakfast sandwiches and bakery items as well as some drinks. Food was good- heated when requested. Croissants were also very good. I ordered a matcha latte and they have two options- sweetened or unsweetened (powder) and I chose the sweetened which felt a little too sweet for my liking. I enjoyed the pastries I got from The French Workshop! I got their pistachio croissant, tiramisu, eclair, and tres leches bomboloni. The pistachio croissant was super creamy and flaky. I loved the pistachio cream they created. Usually, I find most other bakeries' pistachio cream to taste a bit too artificial, but I enjoyed this one since it didn't taste artificial to me. I also think the bomboloni was tasty. The dough tasted like a donut and the cream inside was also tasty, but I wasn't 100% getting tres leches. It was still tasty regardless. The tiramisu is light and sweet! I was surprised by the glass container. I do think they added quite a bit of the cocoa powder on top, which I personally liked but it may be too powdery for some people. Overall, the service was also good and people were friendly. They had a lot of seats in the cafe but it was packed when I got there. Seems like it's mostly casual with lots of small and big groups. It was quite loud so don't expect a super quiet cafe either. This upscale bakery in Astoria with cute, bright white indoor seating has a fine selection of baked goods and sweet drinks. I wanted a nice pumpkin spice latte during the cold winter and I made an excellent choice - the pumpkin flavor came out nicely despite how it was a bit too sweet. The cookies were solid - normally I like them smaller and right out the oven but the amount of butter in this cookie made it fun to chew and taste. I liked the almond cookie more for it sweetness level. The absolut vanilla was a nice combination of vanilla (I didn't see the beans?) and was quite lemon-y. Let me tell you that this pistachio gateau vanilla cake with caramelized pistachio, pistachio ganache and pistachio mousse really is made perfectly! Just right with layered notes of pistachio in a rich vanilla cake. It's nice for birthdays or any day for cake lovers. We went to the French Workshop in Astoria and will come back to try other desserts when we are up for it. Worth revisiting for sure! There's a LOT of seating, most of which has an outlet near it - perfect for those needing a place to work. I came here both yesterday and today and I ordered the same thing each time: a medium Lavender Lemonade. I'm not happy to report that the lemonades differed in taste each day, yesterday's being better... Today, they left out the lavender syrup that is supposed to sit at the bottom. Additionally, the lemonade has a TON of pulp in it today, whereas yesterday it did not. I've yet to try their coffee or one of their endless varieties of scrumptious looking pastries, but I'll definitely be back to try them soon. Overwhelmed is the best way to describe the French workshop. I was looking for a cozy bakery/cafe. Instead, I found a huge cafe, almost the size of one of those Shake Shack, with an enormous amount of seating, cakes, and desserts scattered throughout the space, so given the limited time I was there, I would say that my first evaluation may be a little biased, as I felt very rushed. There was too much to choose from in such a limited time, and they were set up in such a way that makes you want to sit there for hours drinking expensive coffees and eating desserts, all the while using your laptop for work or schoo/ The eatery is embedded in a ground-floor, almost basement-like dwelling. I do not remember what was there before, but they sure hollowed out a very large dining area with lounge-like seating. I did not find my little white chocolate cake terribly exciting, but that could have been just due to the mood I was in at the time. So my conclusion is somewhat limited. I think three stars is the right grade for now, but I plan to certainly pay them another visit. All I can say is that they are worth a second chance! read more

I came here with my husband and my sister for dessert. It's a cute bakery with plenty of seating. We all thought the desserts we had were just ok, and not good enough for a repeat visit. We had some cookies, a carrot cake, a chocolate cheesecake, a cheesecake brownie, and some other chocolate dessert. They were all just ok with the chocolate cheesecake being the best of all, but still not great. The worst was the cheesecake brownie. It wasn't chocolaty and the cheesecake on top tasted off. Finally checked this off my list! So glad there's one that's more accessible now than Garden City whenever we used to go to for Mazda service. This space is huge, clean, and has plenty of seats! I love how bright the whole area is. I've only ordered my usual go to Americano and chocolate croissant and a Nutella Beignet and it was pretty good. I especially appreciate that the Americano was done thoughtfully and didn't seem watered down. Their music selection is also pretty relaxing, so much so that I even felt compelled to just take off my air pods and listen to their selection. The staff seemed warm and friendly and at one point, they also offered chocolate truffles to try so that was a wonderful touch! Lastly, there are 2 toilets both of which seemed clean and maintained well. I hope this branch stays pretty consistent! Pros: I absolutely love their iced honey latte and most of their baked goods and even sandwiches were delicious as well. It is pricey but I justify it with the quality because I'd rather pay 2 extra dollars for a good latte than a shitty one from Dunkin. I used to go to the location in bayside but since I don't have a car anymore this location has become a lot more accessible for me via bus and train ( yes I take both to get here ) This location in particular has a lot of seating and I've come here a few times during the morning, afternoon and night and I've always been able to find a seat for myself no problem. Environment is relaxing and seating is comfy for the first 2 hours. Cons: I have not been here since the summer but I did come here a lot during then ( for the coffee and AC ofc ) and they had multiple outlets where I can actually get work done/ watch a show and even read a book if I'd like. It is now January 9,2026 and I see the outlets are bolted shut. Super super disappointing as I love coming here to hang out by myself most times and also very confused because what is the point of having a huge cafe with seating a lot of single seating if you're not going to allow them to work while enjoying a coffee. Perhaps they implemented a time limit? Perhaps there were people abusing the seating/outlets? Maybe. All this to say, the coffee is great the food is great but come with your own portable charger or don't stay longer than an hour unless you want your devices to run out of battery. read more

When an outpost of the French workshop opened up down the block from work, I knew I had to try it out because I love their Bayside location. I certainly was not disappointed. The chicken pesto sandwich hit all the right notes and had all the right flavors and the iced Nutella chocolate never disappoints. It's hard not to give French Workshop 5 stars! The space is clean, the service is pretty quick and it's all-around a good spot. I've had ALOT of their items and i'd say enjoyed 75% of them. Which if is honestly really great for the amount of food/drinks they offer. That being said, i still go once every 2 weeks on average. Mocha latte and a Nutella croissant. Every time. Almond croissant is good too. Some sandwiches are good, others could be better. I really like their yogurt parfait with strawberries and Nutella. It's in their front case where the juices are. From the moment I walked in, the manager's behavior was completely inappropriate..he made sensually charged comments and gave lingering, uncomfortable looks that made me wonder if i could just get through my order? like a normal person.. in a place that's supposed to be welcoming? DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED. PERIOD FULL STOP. Was kicked out ten minutes ago for trying to order to go while I had my nine pound dog with me. I've been there three previous times to order to go, each time with my dog in tow and have seen other dogs there as well. I was never under the impression that dogs were not allowed to enter AT ALL, but understood I couldn't sit and eat with an animal. Instead of being warned, a manager I'm assuming, rushed from behind the counter to kick me out after my dog barked once. Didn't seem to notice that his staff paid me no attention the entire time I was there. Had someone acknowledged me, I could've ordered and been out the door in three minutes with a warning to not bring my dog in again. Instead he asked me to TIE MY DOG UP OUTSIDE. The rest of the staff here is amazing BUT the MANAGER here is so INCOMPETENT I don't even know why he has any leadership position when he is unqualified due to lacking ANY work ethic, charisma and fine motor skills. He made me a coffee, didn't put the lid on properly, then I walk out and while having gloves on I sustain a second degree burn after it inevitably spills due to HIS MISTAKE... for a second degree burn it has to be above 140 degrees why are you making coffee that hot and then not closing it properly? Then when I approach him to tell him it's a safety issue and can cause harm... he just shrugs, gives me a half assed apology and essentially says "my bad". You at least owe me $35 because of the supplies I had to use for my burn and the cost of the coffee? And maybe some accountability after you PHYSICALLY INJURED ME. Instead when I walk away he tells me "have a good day" and yes I tell him off because he has NO customer service skills on top of his poor grooming and haggard appearance. The lemon meringue tart was a big disappointment, the tart shell was soft and soggy , the lemon cream lacked real lemon flavor and the meringue was too much . The chocolate tart was a miss because of the ganache it had an unsettling flavor not sure what it was the tart shell and the crunch layer were good but the ganache ruined the final taste maybe it was a miss that day .
