Came on a Sunday morning and the cafe was poppin!! Tons of fresh and packaged vegan pastry options, which is refreshing to see. A couple of indoor tables as well as a few outdoor seats as well. I will say, however, for your iced coffee fix, this maybe not be the best spot, but, the people, the ambiance, the food are all worth it. I wish their hours were longer and they had WIFI so I could WFH outside here! I've tried quiches, and crumb cakes, bagels and yes, the avocado toast and more. They also have a punch card where if you purchased 10 coffees, you get the 11 cup free, and guess who just got her tenth coffee stamped, *points thumbs at self* yep, it's me. When I visit my aunt I always try to make a stop here in the mornings. I truly enjoy their food and beverages. I highly recommend pretty much anything on their menu. I usually get their spinach quiche and Shitake mushroom Empanada. Their lox bagel needs more texture because otherwise too mushy..You can request cucumbers as well to add in. Perfect little spot for a morning cup. My best memory at Aubergine is when I came here on New Years Day - my husband and I ventured out for a brisk walk and made our way to Aubergine for a hot drink and we split a ham & cheese quiche that came with a little side salad. Perfect little morning. Their bagels are good, croissants are buttery and flakey, and I'm not sure it's always there - but they cheddar and chive biscuit is to die for. They also have some prepackaged baked goods that are gluten free, which my niece loves. I usually opt for an iced coffee, but they have a board with fun seasonal drinks that strike my fancy every once in a while. Like their hot cider! Lovely little Sunnyside staple. read more

Everything is always wonderful about Aubergine but today their staff took things to a whole new level. I was very distracted after school drop off this morning when I came to pick up my coffee and mindlessly left my empty stroller on the sidewalk and walked home. It sat on the sidewalk from 8:30am At closing, the staff brought it inside and locked it up. They could have very easily said to themselves that it was not their problem. I am so grateful that they were kind enough to do that. I loved Aubergine before but they absolutely have a customer for life. Thank you 100 times to the staff for being so kind. read more

Wow, this place has really changed within the last few years. My younger brother and always loved this place, the food was great quality and staff were friendly! It's been about 2 years since our last visit. We came here not to long ago and decided to order our usual, roast beef sandwich. The quality of the meat was horrible, it was like chewing on rubber. It was stiff and didn't have a great taste to it. We literally did not finish our meal due to the texture and quality. This is such a lovely cafe and they've definitely stepped it up the past couple of years! It's a cozy cafe with a variety of drinks that are extremely delicious! The people at the register are so lovely and sweet! I usually get an iced matcha with oat milk or one of their super cool sounding espresso drinks, iced. Their pastries are incredibleeeeee and if you used to love the City Bakery (RIP!) apple turnovers, they have some here just like them! Highly highly recommend. Everything served at the speed of light! Great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Came here on a Saturday night, near closing time and the staff were warm and eager to provide us with food! They've got a lot of pastries to choose from. I love sweets! I got a large fresh squeezed lemonade and a berry tart to go. Many places make lemonade, but not many do it right. Here, the lemon flavor is strong! I liked it after the ice melted a little bit. It wasn't too sweet and was the perfect amount of sourness. (10/10) for sure. The berry tart is deeeeeeeelicious. It has a perfect crust and is glazed on top. There are seeds in the tart so you know it is made with real berries! Mmm! Definitely need to come back here and try all the cakes. Chocolate chocolate cake, white chocolate mousse, vanilla cheesecake, marble cheesecake, flourless chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake, vegan wheat-free brownie, coffee cake, lemon bar, espresso chocolate chip cookie (YUM!), and many more! My boyfriend got a "stray vegetarian" which consists of hummus, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, green leaf lettuce on honey wheat bread. The bread looked amazing. He also got onions with it. The chunks of avocado were huge and there was a lot of hummus on it as well. Other nice things I noticed about this place is that it has doggy bowls and books around for patrons to read! There are very few coffee shops in Sunnyside; this is one of them. It is popular it appears. I would say that is due to scarcity in the area and not a testament to its quality. I'm talking specifically about their lattes. If you are a drip coffee drinker looking for a 'cuppa' or you have never had a real latte before and just want convenience-here you go. The very rare handful of times I have been here my latte has been made in about five seconds. That's not a good thing. If you go to a real coffee shop you'll see a barista with a proper espresso machine actually handcrafting and pulling the espresso shots, steaming the milk carefully and making you a delicious latte that takes a little time. Aubergine does not take the time with pulling the shots carefully nor steaming the milk properly. The taste certainly reflects that lack of care and quality. Again, I think the majority of the people who come here and who make this place popular probably aren't looking for a real latte. The location on the corner is great and the café itself with the chairs outside is cute so for some people, it will be lovely . read more

Nestled along the lively strip of Skillman, this place is an ideal place to grab a casual lunch, do a little people watching, order a drink on the go, or a solid place to catch up with a friend. This is a good option for vegetarians and is an overall solid venue with an easy going vibe. They definitely have the 4 S's of cafe life down: soups, salads, sandwiches, and service. The menu is pretty simple, but the highlights for me are: the quiche + salad ($8), cobb salad ($15), chicken caesar ($12), smoked turkey panini ($10), and turkey club ($12). The food is good, but extremely simple. Nothing earth shattering here, but good enough for the casual lunch goer. Their coffee and drinks are a big seller for them, which has most of the usual options (love their chai spiced latte), but a few standouts that folks might not expect are their Arnold Palmer ($4.50/5.50), strawberry lemonade ($5.50), or the Ghiradhelli Chocolate / mocha frappe ($6). Last I checked, the coffees are from Irving Farm Coffee from upstate. Besides caffeinated drinks, they also serve a fair amount of adult beverages; wine and beer respectively. I usually rock a Harpoon cider and/or a glass of their seasonal sangria. The latter is pretty good and is a good beverage to sip on while enjoying their Sunday evening jazz sessions. If there was any knock, it might be the prices. Lots of the sandwich options are $10 and anything with smoked salmon commands a hefty price for this part of Woodside. Rent isn't cheap in these parts, so I wouldn't blame them for it. Service wise, they have it down pat. The Asian owner (?) is super welcoming and the young staff is always trying to do their best with the random crowds that come in here night in and night out. It would be fair for me to assume they're beloved in Woodside, which is why I still find myself coming back every so often. read more

Located on the corner of 49th street, it draws many locals for the weekend brunch. The menu offers good vegetarian options. The vegetarian sandwich tastes delicious when paired off with ice tea. It comes with a mixed salad with dressing. Aubergine offers chocolate cakes, and pastries. Even though the place is small, the arrangement makes it comfortable. The front features an espresso bar. They have different espresso flavors such as Gingerbread Latte and Mint Mocha. Near the middle, a black board shows you the espresso flavor of the day. The wait staff rocks! They make you feel comfortable and right at home. When a customer first arrives, the wait staff greets you with a friendly smile. Aubergine reminds me of a small European cafe. Sweets! A quaint neighborhood favorite where a good selection of food options and sweets is nested in Woodside. I always enjoy local businesses. Seating is ample in a dark ambiance of dark wood tables. With a friend as sweets are to be shared, one Chocolate cake at $3.95 and to calm the mindset one Chamomile tea at $1.70 was a sweetful delight to end a long day. With great resistance, I added one mixed berry tart at $4.25 which the waitress was kind to heat it which totals $10.78. The chocolate cake was very light as it was not overly rich or heavy just to my liking. The berry tart was okay as it was not fruity as I hoped. Staff is attentive to refill my tea as I am a avid tea drinker (note: I do NOT drink coffee). Thankfully no TV exist to obstruct the quaint ambiance nor disturb one's in-depth conversation. Aubergine Café is good for couples on date night for sweets shared as a ice breaker during awkward moment of dead spots when one works hard to engage in a conversation for the other is uninteresting or unresponsive. No comment on food as we did not consume any. Facilities is relatively clean. I would surely return to taste their food. read more

I went here on Sunday morning, 7/17. I got a banana bread and an almond croissant, both items were really old. I gave the cashier a $20 and she handed me a few singles, I don't know exactly how much I paid but these items were over $10. I took a bite of the banana bread and it tasted old and dry. The cafe itself looked very cute from the outside so it was definitely on my list of places to try. Finally decided to try it out today. First off, it's very cool inside and dark, which was nice since it was such a hot day today. I had initially thought of grabbing something quick, but the waitress at the cafe asked if I wanted to sit, so I sat. Or, as the previous reviews have said, this is a cafe trying to pass as a restaurant. It's kind of annoying. Peeked at the menu but nothing was super appealing. Still, I went with the Tuscan Chicken sandwich and a small iced green tea. Did not love both. The sandwich was hot panini type thing and one side was grilled pretty darkly and the other side was not. Bit into the sandwich and instantly thought the chicken was too dry. There also wasn't much flavor. The sandwich came with a side salad and it was blehhhhh - as in it only had a few (2-3) pieces of red onion and grape tomato, not to mention the greens were not fresh. There were apparently a few choices for dressing. I went for oil and vinegar but received something way different; I think it was some thousand island dressing. As for the vibes inside the cafe, I wasn't feeling it. They were playing Top 40 songs and it just didn't make sense with a cafe setting and the crowd that it was drawing in. I should probably try their coffee drinks, but I don't really feel like coming back after today's experience. I definitely won't be back for an actual meal. read more

What a special gem of Sunnyside. I recently started working in the area, so I was new to the food/coffee scene of Sunnyside. As someone who is use to working in Manhattan everyday with cute cafes on almost every corner, I was reluctant to find Aubergine. Cute cafes like Aubergine are my absolute weakness. So, it easily is becoming my second home away from home. They have a fantastic selection (lots of healthy options too) of drinks, sandwiches, salads, paninis, and baked goods. Their baked goods are to amazing not to get. You'll come ordering a salad and leave with two vegan brownies. How could one resist? I would say its the best spot in Queens to grab a coffee with a friend or to chill on your lunch break (the chicken salad was pretty great). Super casual. They even have live jazz on Sundays for those who live in the area. How adorable can you get? The only downside I could find is...the price. Honestly, I ended up paying a lot more fro a salad than I would have any where else in the area. Not what I was expecting, but I suppose you do pay for the comforting warm atmosphere.
