Absolutely the worst cup of espresso I have ever had. Stopped for a coffee while driving up the coast - the individual drip coffee was tempting, but didn't want to wait and the espresso sounded good anyway. No line . . . fast brew . . . nice foamy top to the coffee. I paid, left the counter and took my first sip. Ugh, it was so bitter! By this time there were eight people waiting in line, so I went to the car. I asked my wife to confirm my opinion - she agreed and I poured it out. I have been here 2 times in 2 weeks. My experiences are as follows: The first time I came here was a couple of weeks ago. I stopped here with some visiting friends on our way to Fort Ross. My friends ordered sandwiches and I ordered the salad. My salad was just a lot of lettuce and not enough dressing. So I decided I'd add some toast (the sign said toast was 2 dollars). It took a long time for my toast to come. My friends were already finished and waiting for me. I had to go to the little window and remind the guy. When he handed it to me he said, "you ladies don't have a good day." I think he was joking but it was sarcastic and rude. The next time I visited was yesterday. We ordered coffee and sandwiches. When we got back to the car my friend realized the guy had only filled her cup 3/4ths full! The sandwiches were good. The Focaccia bread is delicious. read more

Funky little place just off Highway 1 in Jenner serving some tasty pour over coffee. Recently on a drive up the coast that coffee hit the spot. Add to that coffee a couple of moist flavorful muffins and it was a good morning stop. There are other breakfast sandwiches and also several different sandwiches for lunch. Staff were friendly, but the food so disappointing. The clam chowder was warm milk with large undercooked chunks of potato and salt, way to much salt. You have to make a roux or blend the potatoes to give chowder it' s body. Such a waste of money and we were really craving chowder. This coffee house is an oasis on the Hwy 1 drive. However, we just stayed in Jenner for the Thanksgiving holiday so we were able to enjoy the coffee here daily and I have to say it could be SOOOO much better. Perhaps having no competition has led to some slackness on the proper way to make an espresso drink and/or perhaps their machine needs servicing. My coffees each day were WAY TOO hot and they lacked the appropriate flavor for the drink ordered. On our last day the mocha I ordered was just undrinkable. I would have asked for a remake but we got the coffee to go and were on our way to the beaches to run the doggies. What this place does having going for it are the delicious homemade cookies and especially the scones in the am. We did not have lunch there but it looked fairly good from the menu. The staff was always great. Met you with a smile and they were pleasurable to chat with. The music in the cafe was great and the interior was clean. The place had very limited inside seating for the cold months but lots of outdoor seating for the warm days. The view and the seating outside were great on the days it was warm enough. You could sit by the riverside and watch the seals. Of all the things I can recommend to this place it would be first and foremost to get a thermometer to use for heating milk. Stay cool. read more

We arrived in Jenner for a day of kayaking and outdoors in the pandemic. And discovered Cafe Aquatica as we waited for our rentals across the street. Delicious, organic fare - wonderful for me as a vegan/vegetarian - the freshest ingredients and savory flavors. I'll be dreaming of the "savory scone" for months. The outdoor eating area overlooking the Jenner estuary is simply magnificent. And loved that they were stringent about pandemic protocols, inside and outside. We don't patronize businesses that aren't stringent, because we believe in protecting everyone's health; this cafe shows you can be careful, responsible, AND provide wonderful food! Drive up the windin' 1 and you'll pass the town of Jenner, CA. Keep your eyes peeled - you may not even realize you passed it! "Downtown"(population under 200) can't be more than 100 yards long, but there's a hidden jewel tucked away along the Pacific coast. The jewel's name is Aquatica, a small shack that serves up some delicious and super fresh clam chowder and crab sandwiches! We accidentally stopped in Jenner on our way back to SF from Sea Ranch and saw our friends taking snacks in this little cafe. They recommended us "must try" fantastic sandwiches from this place. The barista was very pleasant and friendly and food was definitely excellent - crab, tuna and salmon sandwiches on home baked ciabatta bread were fantastically tasty. Large selection of loose leaf teas, and good coffee. Limited seating area inside compensated by wooden waterfront patio with many tables, wooden furniture and nice view. One little inconvenient thing: they accept CASH ONLY. There is an ATM right on the premises, but the maximum amount dispensed is $20. Definitely will stop by again next time. read more

Like some other reviews here, we stumbled onto Aquatica on a coastal drive while on vacation from Phoenix, Ariz. We were planning on just grabbing coffee and moving on to find a traditional sit-down breakfast place. The barista made us our Americanos and then a fresh quiche came out of the oven. We decided to stay. The quiche was good, with avocados, amazingly red tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. YUM. The Americanos were delicious. What a lovely spot. Plenty of patio space to relax and take in the morning. Can't wait until I can come back again. read more

I almost don't want to tell anybody about this place, because it's my favorite and I want to keep it all to myself. Hwy 1 is obviously incredibly beautiful, but there are really not that many great food options along the way (sorry, cute B&Bs, your food is just not good). But this place is everything. I'm a sucker for great coffee + homemade bread + the California coast. On a lovely, foggy day, I ordered a coffee & a lox sandwich on their famous focaccia bread. The sandwich came with a delicious hummus, was loaded with lox, and had lots of greens. I was so full. The coffee was fantastic. We sat outside and the view of the river meeting the ocean was beautiful. The service was friendly and kind of slow, but when I get out of the city, that's exactly what I'm looking for - a place where life slows down. Next time, I'm getting a muffin. The vibe of this place is very "hipster California" - complete with our favorite buzz words - fair trade, hand poured, organic, local, homemade, etc. I love it, but I can see how this might not be everybody's cup of tea, but definitely at least grab a coffee before you continue your trip. read more

Went today for lunch based on a trip advisor reviews. Had the dungess crab sandwich on foccia bread. Had very little taste and the bread tore up the roof of my mouth. Cute little place on the bay and the ppl are great but the food we had wasn't worth the $28 we paid. Oh and be sure you have cash, they don't take cards. I'm thinking this place is probably more for the organic peeps. Dog friendly though!! read more

Wow! Amazing place. If you're driving up the coast, I highly recommend stopping by here. Coffee's good, and the food looked great too. My favorite part was chatting with the girl who bakes all their pastry/cookies. She's fantastic. I asked her what the trick is to such amazing scones (she had fresh banana, kiwi, raspberry scones and strongly suggested we take one). She explained some tricks, and (probably because we were riveted), went on to tell us she likes to commune with the dough. I melted. The dough definitely talks to her, and she can speak its language well :). We also stopped in on our way back down and had a cardamom snicker doodle. Yummmmm. So huge, so delicious, so perfect! There is practically no parking but long, slow lines for this super hipster cafe on the beach. I'm scoring it poorly because of slow lines, cash only policy, and watery chowder, but still would visit here again just for a coffee and a snack. Can't beat the view, the live music, and the overall vibe of the place makes it a great rest stop on highway 1. read more

For such a tiny rag tag staff and funky little waterfront hippie shack, this place is beyond what one would expect. While I can't give a glowing endorsement to every item on the menu, I can highly recommend the pour over coffee, expertly sourced, and the sandwiches--not all of the sandwiches, but most of the sandwiches. What makes these 'wiches unique is the delicate, lightly pesto'd focaccia that they are served on. The focaccia is made in-house and it tastes like it's fresh out of the oven. My favorite is the smoked salmon, but their egg salad is pretty tasty in a Northern California home style hippie kind of way (packed with herbs and probably made with vegannaise). Oh, and they have a jam band playing Dead songs or other folk acoustic rock in the backyard, near the waterfront, every week. A friend of mine who lives in the general area referred me to this place so I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did. It has nice coffee, pastries but the best part is the views of the water. I would have given this place 5 stars, but there was a not-so-pleasant woman who was talking to another younger male coworker while I stood at the counter waiting and waiting for someone to take my second order. I felt that I would be rude for me to interrupt them, but she just wouldn't stop talking as I am waiting to order. Not that I was in a rush, but I had someone watching my stuff outside while I went to order. But beyond that, I recommend this place any day. I almost missed Cafe Aquatica being distracted by the breath taking views of the ocean and the inlet for the Russian River! Having never been to the West Coast before let alone this secluded area of a town I've never heard of before, I wasn't expecting much when I parked the car next door to utilize the restroom. I was insanely surprised when I was greeted my three amazingly friendly and patient staff members. The smell of their home roasted coffee beans peculating and pastries within the glass encased counter was absolutely captivating in conjunction with the salty ocean breezes rolling in off the coast, which mind you was like 10 feet away!! My wife and I shared the open faced lump crab meat, eggs Benedict on foccacia bread which was fresh and superb, in addition to a mocha. We took the food and drink around back and enjoyed the breeze coming in from the coast at one of three picnic benches facing the water way. Sandwiches were pretty good until a few more bites because it gets pretty salty. Sweet little cafe with a great location. Coffee is good and the salmon sandwich on focaccia bread was amazing. The real reason to go here, though, is the view/deck. Sitting on the deck while enjoying your food/drink is a great way to spend an hour. There always seems to be ample seating in the deck area. Kids can scramble down to play on the shoreline, so the adults can relax and enjoy the view. Service has always been sweet. You order at the counter and pick up your food and drinks at the little window on the side of the cafe. Cash only. Do yourself a favor and go to this place. It really is that beautiful. read more

My wife and I have been here many times once discovered. Great food and atmosphere. I'm disappointed by some of the reviewers complaining that not wearing masks was met with sharp response. One, it's the business license at risk if the facility doesn't follow quarantine mandates. Also, one doesn't know how many times people pushing a non-mask agenda caused issues. We are all having to deal with this pandemic and we need to be socially responsible. Wear your masks and enjoy the wonderful Cafe Aquatica. We highly recommend it. read more
