Got home from another wonderful Bodega Bay trip but opened up a pack of your smoked black cod from your counter and the stench of rotting fish hit me in the face. Yes, it's been kept cold in my fridge for three days and yes I do smoke a lot of fish myself so I know the shelf life is quite a bit longer than that! Super overpriced and under performing. Used to eat here as a kid years ago before the major remodeling (go back 50+ years) and their red clam chowder was gold standard. Now it's a fancy tourist trap. The clam chowder now is the white New England style which I don't care for. Their Seafood Chowder last time I was there was the red and was very good. But that's been some years ago and for all I know they don't offer it anymore and if they do it's probably $20 a bowl. Sure you get a nice view of the harbor in the dining room but not worth what you pay for expensive mediocre food. read more

Food- didn't purchase anything pre-made. All of the ingredients were delicious and when combined, made one heck of a paella. Service- seemed just fine. We went on a weekday so there were very few customers besides us. Nothing plentiful but that'd also be unwarranted. Ambiance- very clean, which is a good thing for a seafood monger. Nice high ceilings and everything was well spaced. The sea air permeates the entire location as it's on the water. Yup, it's a little on the pricey side. You pay for the presentation as well as the location and freshness. Strange how it costs less to get it at your local market but these are the breaks. We had great service here and bought some good food. The seafood was excellent. It's not cheap - but this is an out of the way place and for this location I thought the quality and price were fine. My favorite thing to do when visiting a new beach town is to stop and pick up some fresh seafood to make a delicious dinner for everyone. I stopped here and was not disappointed. They had a great selection and everything looked super fresh and clean. Despite quite a few random "foodie" items they also had more than a few local goods including fresh local sourdough. The market is connected to a restaurant and gift shop that I didn't check out. They had a lot of wines and a few beers although they could beef up their beer selection. My folks really wanted to come here because of the movie The Birds. Sooo we did a quick day trip to Bodega. Some cute shops with local offerings. I bought my husband (who decided to remain home) some of their local confectionery items. It's a cute gift shop and market with smoked fishes and cheeses amongst locally made items. There are also clean bathrooms for a pit stop and a restaurant onsite (which I didn't eat at since we had other plans). Good place to get out and stretch your legs and snap some pics! read more

What a letdown by mediocre unfriendly rude staff. Many fond memories coming here 35yrs ago as a small kid in the 1980s. My parents used to come here back in the late 1960s after the Hitchcock movie "THE BIRDS" was filmed here in 1963 with tippy hedren. We made a special stop here and were pretty excited. Opened the door and it was like walking into a mausoleum. Remodeled but Very empty / quiet. Major negative vibes from the cashier girl at the gift shop. Who COMPLETELY Ignored us not even a hello / smile nothing. Super sour attitude. The whole time she was using a price gun stamping things at her register never turned around to look at us. We had to get her attention to BUY SOMETHING. Never got her name but she had some chin hair/stubble and she is in one of the photos (with her back turned!) Another older employee lady came up to her and right in front of us said frankly THERES A MAJOR disgusting mess in the ladies room that needs immediate attention and the chin stubble girl shrugged it off not caring in the least. We walked out back and some random elderly customers were chatting us up. Again maybe 2 people in the whole joint. I dont know who's running this place, but its a damn shame. Felt like i was in a bad part of eureka california jerome AZ / or the twilight zone. We were planning to eat here. But got outta here as fast as we could. This is our go to stop every visit to Bodega beaches. The market has one of the best fresh clam chowders on the west coast. Full of clams and flavor, easy to go, I recommend the large to share with your partner. I also love the smoked fish selection and occasionally include a small slice along with my order. We take our chowder in its compostable container and spoon to our favorite beach and enjoy, and of course to green ben when we get home. read more

My brother had driven up from dealing with the fires in socal. I'm a local, with plenty of meals in Bodega Bay. Took my brother to lunch at the Tides on 3/26. Worst meal I have ever had in Bodega Bay. Crab sandwich had almost no crab and the purported "Sourdough Bread", tasted like white bread. My fish and chips was burnt, both fish and chips. View might be great, but if the food isn't up to any decent standard, the entire event is a failure. I will never eat at the Tides again. read more

The customer service here is a free for all. Even though there is a line and folks waiting their turn patiently, the staff randomly picks who to assist next. Very odd. Very chaotic. If the staff can't remember who is next line or unable to assist folks in order of the line, possibly they should utilize the tab pull number system. read more

I try to get away to Bodega Bay a couple times a year, given the pandemic I was only able to get up here once a year. It's good to be back. I frequent lots of places in Bodega Bay and The Tides being a place that is always consistent. There are GREAT options for food up here, and many of them have long lines of groups waiting to place their order. I skipped a bunch of places I would usually frequent given the long lines. Driving by the Tides I noticed the parking lot wasn't overpacked and pulled into a vacant front spot with a 15 minutes limit: perfect, just enough time to pop in and check out the gift shop and grab chowder from the fish market. The Tides Fish Market consistently carries fresh seafood for cooking at home, as well as gourmet food items (pasta, sauces, chocolates, snacks, wine, etc) You can also order Clam Chowder to go, in three different sizes. There is very rarely a line and if there is the friendly folks working the counter are efficient and you won't wait long. Their chowder is consistently good. Came in here yesterday with a Yelp friend and got chips, The Daily Crave, Veggie Chips, Breaking News. After trying them today my daughter and I loved them, nice crunch, incredible flavor and I'm pretty sure we'll finish the big bag in no time, that's just how addicting they are! The shop carries a lot of cheese, well fish obviously lol, pasta sauces, condiments, apple butters and various snacks etc. I would definitely recommend stopping into this shop! This review is for the fish market. I bought a crab advertised as cooked. We ate it right after we bought it. It was soft and flaky with little flavor. I'm not sure if it had been frozen, overcooked or just sat too long. It is the worst fresh crab I have ever had. I will not buy seafood there again. I bought the largest cooked Dungeness they had and a pound of smoked mussels. Took these back to my campsite to enjoy. The crab tasted very good. No salt added as far as I can tell. As for the mussels, it goes perfect with a glass of wine or even a cold brew. The mussels are so good I went back the following day for more. read more

Been here several times. First off the clam chowder. Very good and thick, the way I like it. Second best chowder I've had (first is in Monterey). The fish market has a wide variety. You can definitely tell the difference from the fresh fish caught here vs the kind you buy at typical stores. I don't buy a lot of fish here because it is pricey. In France the wine is super inexpensive because it's readily available, but it's just different here. We bought coffee and a few other things in the market on our way to Sea Ranch. Our car had a fresh bag of Hog Island Oysters in the back, so no need to purchase any seafood this time. They carry your standard small gourmet market variety of snacks, savory provisions, fancy sweets, bread, etc. The ladies working there were friendly when we walked in and chatted with us as we checked out. Then I went to the apparel and gift shop across the way, I was drawn in by the unique and attractive wares on display. I purchased the softest crew neck sweatshirt, very pretty. The ladies in that shop seemed bored and way less interested in engaging with me, just talking with each other. It was a Covid-era Tuesday afternoon in December, so we had both stores to ourselves when we visited. I would go back for gifts or to shop for myself next time we drive through Bodega Bay. read more

We were excited to eat at the "Tide Wharf Restaurant on 835 Hwy One Bodega Bay, California. On a positive note, we didn't have to wait long to be seated and served, and this is where the positive ends. First I had to ask to have my water cup replaced, it had a nice set of lipstick lips on the cup, they were kind enough to change it and I received a fairly clean cup. We received our food, my wife ordered a hamburger and it was okay, and I ordered PRAWNS & CHIPS. When I received them they were burnt and dry and the fries seemed hours old. The waiter asked how it was, and I told him it was a terrible meal, he said okay, and never asked another question and went and got the check. Didn't offerer any thing to correct the problem and just handed me the check. It was the worst 60+ dollars I have ever spent at a restaurant. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. read more

You would think if you spend $320. that they would at the very least answer our questions about if they had a specific $75. bottle of champagne available. Years ago the Restaurant used to be fabulous (80's & 90's) and a nice place for brunch or a special dinner. The food is below par and the wait staff unfriendly and not helpful. There was a hair in my food and they barely apologized not even offering me dessert for free . We stayed at the hotel across the street and the people we spoke with had similar experiences. Everyone we spoke to looked elsewhere to eat and vowed never to go back. I will say the gift shop is great and the girl working there very sweet. They need to get Gordon Ramsey in there to revamp and start from scratch!!!!! read more

My review is based solely on the market located inside. We were on our way home from our trip and realized we had tons of seafood that weekend (cause when in Rome, right) but no clam chowder ohh I know the travesty! So while we gassed up in Bodega Bay we asked the gas attendant where the best chowder is. He pointed right across the street and off we went. I was a little standoffish as first, there's a novelty store and snack bar to the left, small market and restaurant to the right. Not the sit down style place I was envisioning. However, after looking over the restaurants menu, we found ourselves in the small market to order the clam chowder, not the restaurant and we ordered the biggest container they had. Between just me and my husband we polished off a quart of chowder and half a loaf of sour dough! We even went back and got more to go so we could enjoy it when we got home. It was that good! It was thick and hearty with proportionate amounts of clams and potatoes. It was a little pricey, but worth it. And of course, consider the area. There is a seating area outside also which I recommend enjoying your chowder at if the weather permits. It sits right on the bay and has a beautiful view. read more

The crowning top or more accurately bottom of our dining experience was the tiny print on the bottom of the menu, informing us that the restaurant was charging us 2% to supplement the pay of the servers. Charging $19.95 for a bowl of clam chowder. that cost eight dollars at spuds was an insult. With the ridiculously and insultingly high prices for the food at a mediocre restaurant certainly provides the owners with enough money to pay their workers directly. Charging their customers to pay their workers is truly an embarrassment, and should not be allowed. read more

I'm shocked by the review for this place. We drop here at least twice every time we're in Bodega. The clam chowder in the market is SURPRISINGLY good. Will be getting every time I visit from now on. The bakery counter behind the deli has some DELICIOUS desserts, almost everything I've tried has been amazing. The little store is cute and there is always parking available. The public restrooms are a god send with everything going on it's close to impossible to find anywhere to use the restroom so we really appreciate these being open to customers. read more
