Better than the other option across the street Gualala Supermarket. It's pricey, but probably expected for the Sea Ranch area. Produce is organic and there are local goods, which is nice. There's also a sandwich / premade hot foods area where selection is pretty small. There's also BBQ in the parking lot on some days. read more

Amazing selection considering location though most things are quite expensive. Large selection of wine. Decent selection of fruits and vegetables with meh to high quality depending on the item. I got some organic kale that was very fresh and a good price. I opted not to buy the salad mix I usually purchase as it is too expensive here. Service is fine and ambiance is good. read more

For a small market, they have an enormous alcoholic beverage department, larger than our local full-service grocery store. The selection is quite impressive. We bought a couple of made-to-order sandwiches at the deli. The price was reasonable for the size and quality. The prices in general were in keeping with the remote and isolated location. In other words, high, but with the cost of getting items to Gualala, worth the cost if you need something. read more

I went here this morning during my stay in Gualala. This place has organic produce, similar to those back home, such as Sprouts and Whole Foods. The ambience was nice and pleasant, making it a pretty chill place to go. They have a variety of foods to choose from, such as Mac salad to sandwiches, there is something for everyone. The people who worked over there were friendly, incredible service. Even the BBQ smelled amazing and the lady who was cooking it was kind as well. read more

Excellent supermarket. Very friendly and knowledgeable employees. They have ways of sourcing for items that I have not seen at home. We must've visited 5 times over the course of 3 days that we were here in Gualala. We tried their white lightening apricots sourced from Washington. OMG!!! Missing out since they were super yummy and sweet. They also carried a lot on imported goods from Japan. Didn't get to try their deli sandwiches but we did get to try their bbq ribs. They have a setup in front of the store and you get see the ribs, chicken and tri tip cooking. Awesome store... wish we had something like this here at home. read more

We wanted to create a charcuterie board to take back to the hotel and enjoy. The items that we got here seemed hit or miss. The local cheeses and olives were great. But the cured meats were pretty bad. I should've took a picture but I was hunting to find good looking meat. Some of them were old and moldy. Even after finding the best looking ones, when we finally opened it- it smelled really pungent and a little sour. To add salt to the wound, everything was super expensive. read more

Great spot for locals and vacationers alike. I head here for an artisan, higher end ingredient trip. If you're just passing through and looking to grab something quick, you can find ready made options, picnic charcuterie and cheeses right as you enter. Keep walking back to peruse their (impressive) wine collection. Smallish supermarket, but high quality, mostly local options. They have a solid meat/fish counter at the back, left-hand side of the store. Heftier price tags for most items, but with the remote location and gourmet food options that is to be expected. Only reason it isn't getting a 5 star review is the fresh produce section. For all the farms in the vicinity, this section is sadly lacking. Extremely limited selection of fresh fruits/vegetables, and wicked over-priced. With that being said, the Surf Market is still my go-to, one stop shop spot. read more

This is a very very nice little Super Market, but honestly I didn't stop in here to shop or even to pick up a few odds and ends or a bag of ice or anything else behind the store's front doors. I stopped here for the exceptionally amazing baby back ribs grilling in the parking lot directly in front of this little grocery store. This rib cooking mad man is throwing down some of the best baby back ribs I've ever eaten, yes ever eaten and they are having a blast doing it, it's definitely a party atmosphere. This giant open pit is filled with cords of real oakwood charcoal that has the pork fat sizzling on these pigs sides and has the locals lined up around the corner, there were cars zig zagging, horns a honking, people jockeying to get a parking spot it was total chaos, at first I thought they were giving away bags of gold nuggets or something. Well let me tell ya these are the real deal, finger sucking, lip smacking pork ribs and on this day I swear I saw pigs fly because these charred tender fall off the bone ribs were flying off the grill. Twenty-five bucks a rack or a half rack for thirteen dollars and if you throw the pit-master and I never used that word lightly a few extra bucks tip he'd toss in a few extra bones for your eating pleasure. The accommodations here are a little more than you might expect, they have a few picnic tables set up under the store's front canopy and although napkins are supplied you may want to get a few wet ones before you dive in because when you are done you are going to look like a kid eating chocolate ice cream and this sticky sauces doesn't wipe off without some effort. The atmosphere was festive as I understand it this is known as "The Saturday BBQ" but I can't telI you if this is a every Saturday thing, I do know this guy was rolling in the dough and the supply of ribs seemed endless. They did have other offerings, I think I saw some tri-tip, some chicken maybe some sausage but every customer I witnessed was going for the ribs. GREAT sandwich. I ordered a turkey, swiss, avocado, and sprouts with other veg on Dutch crunch. I am pretty picky about sandwiches and almost never order Dutch, because it is usually dry. This was not. The whole sandwich was damn delicious and I would eat here regularly if I lived here. The market is well stocked and has a lot of fancy/pricey items. I will say that I recommend really checking prices before putting them in your basket. Some are mostly normal and some are completely insane. All in all a good market for regular and specialty items. This place has it all for sure and at a pretty penny. It's more of the higher end market compared to supermarket across the street. This place has a larger meat counter, larger wine selection and larger cheese selection as well. If your looking for fancy smancy place to pick up some dinner items to woo your honey, this is the place! Customer service is always pleasant. We were in search of some baguettes and they were nice enough to pull some from the back for us that were freshly baked. On a side note they have a BBQ station outside the market and the tri tip and ribs are worth every penny! read more

Cute little store, parking is free but was tight. Easy to find in the center of town, on the main highway. Lots of organic and local items. Like other reviews have stated, not cheap. Which is understandable since it's a small store in a tourist town far from bigger cities. Open a couple of hours later than other stores in town, but still closes in the early evening. read more

I brought my kids to the deli to pick up some lunch to eat at the beach. When we arrived, there were 3 old, dried out pieces of fried chicken sitting under the heating lamp. My kids were ecstatic when one of the workers brought out a fresh batch of fried chicken. She moved the old pieces to the side, presumably to throw out. I got a bad vibe from the lady helping us, like maybe she didn't like the way we looked. This was confirmed when my boys ordered the fried chicken and she served them the old dried out pieces. When I asked her to give them the fresh pieces instead, she responded sternly "it's all the same!". I also ordered the Reuben sandwich. Unfortunately, the same lady made my sandwich. This was maybe the worst store bought sandwich I've ever eaten (see pictures). Just to add...I later saw the same deli worker in the parking lot making phone calls, and get into her friend's car during her break. Then she went back to work. Why mention this at all? She was wearing the same food-handling gloves the entire time and she went back into the store to work with the same pair of gloves on. read more

While taking our time driving up 1 the California coast highway, we were getting hungry around Gualala California. Turns out there are not a lot of options to eat in Gualala so we decided to stop into the Surf Market to see what we could find to eat. Turns out they have a deli inside the market. Wow what a surprise! I had the Not Just A Tuna Sandwich and my wife had the Veggie Sandwich. Mine was definitely a solid 4 and my wifes would have been a 5 if she had picked a softer bread. Not their fault. Very good, friendly service, meat and seafood selection looked awesome etc... Definitely worth stopping in and checking this place out for sure. read more

Decent grocery store, kinda high end for the area which is a nice way to say brand names and high prices ! This review is actually for the BBQ stand they have outside the market on Friday-Sunday. We finally broke down and bought a full rack of ribs - grilled not smoked (sadly) and a whole tri tip steak. Together they cost $65 which isn't cheap and they don't come with anything other than what you bought. No plastic silverware, no plates and no sauce. Don't expect a side of slaw or even napkins. We asked and for a few and that's that. The ribs were tasty but lacked the smoking I prefer. They were $35 for a full rack and I would have liked a side and some plates for that kinda $$. The tri tip we saved for dinner and I heated it on a Weber grill over coals for a few minutes on both sides and it was a full sized grilled tri tip - easily 2.5+ lbs of meat. The winner of the order. It was massive and we have enough for a few more meals,...which at $30 for the full tri tip was a better deal IMHO. Next time we will get some salad stuff and round out the meal. We were staying at a nearby hotel and most places in town shut by 8 PM so we had to buy it and figure it out on our own. All and all decent BBQ but the ribs needed a smoker and the tri tip was fine. We will probably be back for that. read more

This is an amazing Market for local fare. We found local olives, local pickles, local cheese, local cake, and enjoyed the Saturday BBQ. Everything local is identified clearly with a sign or sticker. When you first walk into the store they have a picnicker's dream of both small (serves 2) and large (serves 4) containers of sides from quinoa to mango slaw. We tried the mango slaw and the macaroni salad both were delicious. Moving down the cold case you find yourself In front of an amazing cheese display with such accoutrements as fig jam and quince paste as well as about any kind of olive you could ever wish for. We chose 3 local cheeses, some smoked olives, and some fresh pickles. One more step to the left you find bakery items from the local bakery that included slices of several different types of cake, 4 kinds of mini cheesecakes and at least 3 types of pie. We tried both a chocolate cake and rocky road candy. Both were delicious. They have an amazing selection of wine and all the fresh produce you could ever wish for. This is a great market! read more

Surf Market is our " go to " store when in Gualala. Superior options abound in their butcher shop, and wide variety of fresh veggies. Local sourced farm eggs are not to be missed. Last night on our last day of a short holiday we went to the BBQ in the parking lot ( a very popular spot with the locals ) and had a full rack of Baby Back Ribs...and a lovely Tri-Tip. So good. This gem along the southern Mendocino coast is SPECIAL for so many reasons. THE FOOD: You can literally find everything you might want here, but it's curated which I like because so many grocery stores offer 2+ options of every product that are essentially the same, only different packaging and prices which leads to consumer fatigue pretty quickly. They've done the hard part for you, offering only the really good stuff worth your $. I love their cheese selection, yummy grab-and-go snacks and desserts (don't pass up the rocky road bites, made by Trink's just up the road -- everything from there is also 100), and they have lots of options in their deli, too. You also need to check out all the cool Surf Market sauces, dressings, and condiments like bacon onion jam. They also have a crazy good selection of chocolates, and tons of gluten free and other special diet foods. Check out their local Thanksgiving brand coffee, too. Annnnd amazing BBQ most Fridays and Saturdays served outside in the parking lot. THE WINE/BEER: Again, curated so you're only seeing great picks, and many are locally made. Good choices for every price point, too. THE ENERGY: It's a chill local vibe that is both clearly a neighborhood gathering place but also very welcoming to tourists. THE ORGANIZATION: The store is very well organized, yet open especially for a small grocery store. It's also very CLEAN. Of course now everyone wears masks, and hand sanitizer is there for you at the entrance. But they clearly care about maintaining high standards and keeping customers safe beyond that, too. THE PEOPLE: Again, friendly and chill. They clearly love where they work and deal with us tourists and passing-through crew without an eye roll (even though sometimes that would be warranted). GIFTS: They have lots of nice gift and souvenir options, from hats to magnets and specialty foods and mugs, all with cool coastal/Gualala logos. Clearly, I love this store.
