Not sure it was even lamb. The tzatziki tasted like it was out of a jar or was just mostly mayo with little or no cucumbers or garlic and the potato wedges were just meh. Will not go back, especially since there was little concern when we told our waiter the kabobs were inedible and we were taking them to our dogs. read more

The food is amazing. My wife and I showed up 30 minutes before closing. The waitress was very kind and didn't mind at all. We each ordered the gyro platter with the lamb/beef mix. I had the potato wedges as a side and honestly everything blew us away. The potato wedges had a ton of good seasoning and flavor. The gyros were loaded and juicy. People rave about the fries here so I had to try them. I was curious so I asked the waitress how they prepare the fries and she said they come frozen they tasted ok but I don't understand the hype. They taste like they have a very light batter on them that increases the surface area to make them more crispy (but also more oily). The falafel salad costs like $17 but they only give you 4 little falafels! Might as well get the meat! I get that inflation is rampant but does this salad look like it's worth $17??? This was my first time eating at Cafe Athens. The atmosphere had a pretty Greek decor to it. Service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food, on the other hand, was just ok. We found their food to be pretty bland across the board. Their baklava was YUMMMY. Their portions were very generous. We ordered the sample platter, beef and chicken gyro, BBQ Chicken pizza, and a salad. The chicken gyro was extremely soggy. The chicken BBQ pizza had way too much chicken on it. My husband weighed 2 slices when we got home, and they weighed over a pound. LOL! We might give them a try again, but we're not rushing to go back. We'll see.... read more

Service was super quick. I came on a Monday around 4PM and it's pretty slow. Waitress was friendly. They will sit you first. Parking was easy lots of spaces. I was looking to relax but the cooks/workers were watching videos on their phone loudly and it was very distracting Feta on the rice was a nice twist. The size was pretty big I had leftovers. I ordered the chicken Souvlaki kabob platter. The chicken was juicy and seasoned nice. Waitress was so nice. She kept checking up on me and just had a really nice demeanor. The restaurant is very open, a lot of natural light. I saw someone working here which I would agree would be a nice place as long as it's slow and the workers on blasting their phones lolol. read more

The service was awesome. We were seated and served promptly and with a great server. The fries were really good. Disappointed there was no saganaki on the menu. The olives were very weird and gross and I tried two to be sure I didn't get a fluke bad one. I usually love Greek olives. The feta was not the greatest, chunks would have been better. The gyro meat on my salad could have been slightly more browned as it was mushy but it still tasted good. Portions were decent. The tzatziki and salad were on point. I've worked at many Greek owned restaurants in Detroit, and was very excited to look over the menu. So much so, my boyfriend and I spent well over $160 on our carry out. I never leave reviews but I wish I had read what I'm about to write before deciding to go here. I think their food is bought in bulk from Costco and heated up in the kitchen. It's not restaurant quality- I'm actually very confused because the photos looked great but what came out was totally different. The chicken looked like it came from a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store and the veggies were steamed broccoli and carrots from a frozen bag. The hummus could have been used to tile a floor it was so thick and flavorless. Again I never leave reviews but I wish I would have known this before- the food was the worst food experience I've ever had. The good: solid lunch spot for a quick and fresh tasting meal. The gyros salad is large, hearty, and healthy especially for the hose of us who prioritize high protein/low carb meals. The bad: the interior and menu need a serious renovation. The restaurant feels like an outdated 90s diner that is only catering to senior citizens. At a minimum they need to refresh the decor, the tables, and get the caddies with condiments and sugar packets off of the tables. What is with the huge, unused bar counter space at the front of the restaurant? The food and menu need help, too. We don't need a 2 page, small font menu to explore how many ways you can serve us gyros meat. Cut it down and make it look special. The food is lazy, too. My kid won't even eat the soggy, pathetic, precociously frozen fries. Try harder to make some good hand cut fries to serve with a gyros wrap. The hummus looks and tastes like any you would buy from a supermarket. If you're a Mediterranean restaurant maybe try to make some awesome homemade hummus for a table to share. It's fresh, warm, has a drizzle of oil and fresh herbs on top and it's served with some warm pita and veggies. Then you tell us how good your homemade hummus is right on top of your menu. Every time I have gone in the past, this place has always been great. This last time though, their sweet tea was rancid, the calamari was rubbery, and the souvlaki euros were beyond soggy. Really really wanted to like this place....and I believe they actually may be better than my recent experience. Service was excellent and prompt. The restaurant was clean, with a decent atmosphere. I ordered a beer and it came right away...ok selection. I then ordered Souvlaki Kabob Platter with chicken...so chicken may not be in the menu (I can't remember), and may be the reason it was very dry and not really edible. The flavors may have been ok, but really couldn't and didn't eat it. The salad that came along with it was ok, but didn't finish it. I guess what was annoying was that the kitchen staff was horsing around which may have lead to the extra dry chicken. I ordered fries...they were coated. Nothing wrong with them...that's just not the way I want my fries. Also ordered dolmades...I'm sure they weren't, but tasted like they were microwaved as the stuck to the paper on the plate and fell apart. Not a great experience. Wow! Great Greek food! Stopped in because I'm new to FOCo and wanted to try something new. I was not disappointed. I got the gyro platter with fries and everything was tasty! Fresh salad, juicy gyro meat, soft bread, and crispy fries! My only complaint if you can call it that would be that my beverage came out after my dinner, though dinner came out in probably 3 minutes, so that makes Up for it. Almost a year into a pandemic, most restaurants have mastered takeout... vent your good gosh darn fries! If you put hot fries in a styrofoam box the condensation makes them soggy! I appreciate hot food but a melted styrofoam container with soggy fries was disappointing! There was a decent amount of meat in the gyro platter, however the olives don't have the pits removed and the feta allotment was laughable. The falafel balls are half the size they should be and even though I ordered extra pita we still wished for more pita. My family and I have been coming here since they opened, and even before when they were Runzios at foothills mall. I grew up on this food. Its delicious, amazing quantity, and great prices. Dont come without ordering the gyro meat, always. That and the tzatziki sauce together are like heaven! You'll never leave hungry. Ordered out for the first time this weekend, I only got the sampler platter (which you should always get) and the gyros platter. That food was enough for 5 meals (which I did HAVE to share with my family). Not to mention, they were so quick to have it prepped that I had to ask for more time because fort Collins traffic is now so outrageous (am I right??). The restaurant itself is nice, open, and bright. It can get a bit noisy. I love the views of the kitchen so I can drool while I wait. The staff has always been friendly and helpful as well. This is irresponsible and dangerous at a place disseminating food to people. In addition, the food was not fresh and had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp. My husband and I stopped because we wanted lunch. There are several restaurants in the area, so we did a little walking and checking things out. This place was popping, so we thought it would be okay to take a chance. I've been to Greece, and I like Greek food so it seemed like a good move. None of the food was authentic. In my opinion, it wasn't even good. The pita bread tasted like chemicals - probably to keep it unreasonably soft. The saganaki had a weird chemical taste as well, which the lemon did nothing to dispel. The French fries seemed to have been rolled in fish batter before being fried: crusty in a way they shouldn't be. One doesn't need to embellish the amazing potato. I don't need extra starch on my French fries. No one else I know would make this complaint, but I had too much chicken on my gyro ( I know: my own fault for ordering chicken ). There was almost no lettuce or onion or anything but a big full scoop of boiled bland chicken on a soggy chemical pita. Our waitress was nice. Hence the two stars. This is a miss for me.
