Loved this brunch spot for our sleepy Sunday morning in Mendocino. My husband and I had the Beaujolais Benedict which comes on crunchy sourdough and the Beaujolais breakfast sando which comes on a spicy cheddar biscuit. Both plates came with a healthy side of crispy home potatoes which were deliciously seasoned. Our fave was the Benedict with its perfect poached egg and creamy take on sauce (not quite hollandaise, but still yummy). The sando was huge and the flavors are more elevated (Gruyère, spinach) than a classic fluffy breakfast biscuit. I would look forward to trying the chilaquiles next time. What probably is the best restaurant in Mendocino this longstanding quanit establishment is full of charm and exceptional cuisine. Four of us visited and we had a reservation which I highly recommend. We waited about ten minutes after arriving and a line of people behind us did stack up. The place isn't large and we got a cozy table in the center of the dining room. The menu is interesting and the wait staff was very helpful and professional. I started with some soup which was delicious. It was a corn based soup and perfect for the season. My entree was the black cod, which seems available in these parts, and it was prepared perfectly. So tender and delicious; seasoned just right on a bed of greens, mushroom, beets and a light emulsion sauce. I was quite pleased with my selection. Although the place is supposed French cuisine I would offer that it is more French influenced than traditional French. Spending a long weekend in Mendocino and booked dinner for two at Café Beaujolais. Super quaint ambience, we were seated in the Garden room, which had a liovely garden view as the name suggests. Tour server was super knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. The menu was seasonal and freah. We started with a local melon salad that was on their daily specials menu, which was super light and refreshing. We then had the octopus which was tender, and served over crispy. Polenta. For our entrées we split the pistachio crusted halibut special which was served over risotto I'm a very tender and pistachio provided a nice texture. I thought the risotto was a little bland. We also split the black cod which had an interesting preparation with char bok choy and beets I thought it was delicious. We finished the meal with a chocolate cake which was just so we're all a great experience, good enough to come back the next day for brunch which was also tasty. My biggest complaint is the restaurant, the brewery, and the coffee shop share a single stall so the waits are long! read more

The manager who greeted us was warm and welcoming, and the setting feels classic and charming right in the heart of town. Everyone at the table loved their dishes. Such a great spot for a romantic dinner in Mendocino! We were staying in the area for a Valentine's Day getaway and came here for a nice dinner. The restaurant is set in a converted 19th century Victorian farmhouse and the ambiance is really cozy without feeling stuffy. It was a rainy evening but it still felt warm and relaxed inside. We got a bottle of local Trousseau Noir to share. It was a pretty light red and easy to drink which was exactly what we were looking for. We were served complimentary bread and butter to start and then shared the Wild Mendocino Mushroom Gnocchi and Braised Pork Cheeks for our entrees. Both plates were delicious but the pork cheek which was covered in a super rich pork jus stole the show and the sauce was just perfect on the creamy risotto. Service was lovely as well and we really enjoyed just taking our time having dinner inside on a rainy night. Started the meal off with their special of a meatball on top of a perfectly balanced polenta. Cleared the plate and then some. I decided on duck and my wife had the gnocchi. Inside is very cozy, and all the tables have white linen table clothes, which makes the rustic interior feel more elevated. I was really impressed with the food, and the bowl was packed with seasonal fruits including peaches, cherries, figs, and strawberries. An excellent choice for an anniversary celebration dinner. All of our selections were top notch in taste, quality, uniqueness, and freshness. Service was superb and attentive. It's rare to have every expectation met on such an important day. Either we're lucky, or Cafe Beaujolais is just that good. Take a look at my photos. They bring you house baked bread first which was average, but a nice touch. Foie gras was as expected, fatty and seasoned. One and done for me as the ducks are treated inhumanely. Not too many places serve it as this particular one was flown in from New York. The black cod was cooked perfectly. Agnolotti under the cod was a bit too al dente, but flavors were great with the beets. Paired with a glass of sauvignon blanc, it was pretty good. A new favorite breakfast spot of mine in Mendocino. So after going to Mendocino a bunch of times we've had to hone in on the breakfast options. After all, breakfast is the wifey's favorite meal. So we've been trying Cafe Beaujolais since it's usually near one of the Inn's we like to stay at, and my is it tasty. I like how it's open somewhat early too. 9:30 isn't too bad. The goal is usually to get to breakfasts spots right when they open so we can avoid peeps but even though this place usually fills up right as they open the doors, I do love the vibe. There is an elegance to it which goes with the name. But yet at the same time it does also have a homey feel like an old mom and pop breakfast spot in the Bay. For some reason out of all the times I've gone, theres always this older gentleman who seems like he's a customer but he's always just walking into the kitchen. Luckily he's never too loud or obnoxious. I just figure he's a regular who is close to the people that work here. Ultimately he always looks like he is having a good time. I mean when you think about it, the food can't be half bad if I continuously see this dude here... But the food is actually really really good. Ive come here a few times and the food always goes above and beyond. I really look forward to the breakfast every-time I go because I know it's always going to be a good meal. That's just how consistent they are. Recently I tried Benedict and I was super impressed. Both of the eggs oozed out the golden goodness when you put the knife through. The Hollandaise sauce was light, lemony and creamy. I loved the amount of Ham they give you too. Potatoes are scrumptious. The portions are pretty solid. Great service too. My wife and I felt that their flavors were off in essentially all their dishes. I had a lamb shank and my wife had the fish. Both were mediocre with an off taste. Came to Cafe Beaujolais for dinner on a Thursday and Brunch on a Sunday and while overall pleased, left with some thoughts. For brunch: I would come here again and again for their pancakes. I don't even like pancakes very much and I so rarely order them but their special had peaches and I'm a sucker for peaches... turns out I'm also a sucker for slightly crispy pancakes and Cafe Beaujolais delivered! Mine were delicious but I also had a bite of a blueberry pancake from a friend and I believe those were somehow even better! The eggs Benedict was so so. The flavors were excellent but the eggs were inconsistent (one was runny, one was overcooked). The sourdough was tasty but slightly difficult to cut/eat. Weeknight spontaneous dinner as tourists from the Bay Area. We were lucky to snag a table with about a 15 minute wait. Vibes are romantic old cottage, special occasion dinner type so dress accordingly. We felt a little out of place not as dressed up, but we were hungry after finding out the Italian place next door was completely booked and so here we are. The berry cake was bursting with fresh berries, and was a very out of cookbook berry purple color (not yellow sponge cake layered w/fruit pebble type) so kudos to the dessert chef too! We are in Mendocino for a week, and have eaten out every night. I've already reviewed the other restaurants we visited and some of them were given 5 stars, so if could, I would give Cafe Beaujolais 5.5 stars. The food was the best of all the places we ate at. I got the black cod and my husband got the cioppino. Both were very very good. The frangipane tart was excellent too! Our waiter was a bit on the serious side to start with, but seemed to loosen up as the evening progressed. But polite and helpful. The hostess was very professional. We probably would have been labeled "difficult" because we wanted another table that wasn't so tightly placed and in the corner and asked for another table. The others were not occupied but were reserved for other customers. She handled it all very well and didn't blink an eyelid or take it personally. And this is another reason for the 5.5 stars! We ended up waiting in the Waiting Room coffee shop/bar for about 1/2 hour. The bartender was especially friendly and very helpful. Well done, Cafe Beaujolais! My fiancé took me out for an amazing birthday dinner at Cafe Beaujolais. They have a very interesting menu! I was surprised to see Vietnamese prawn salad and foie gras in the same setting, but it just ensures there's something for everyone here. They were crispy and fluffy. If I could go back, I'd probably order their king salmon tartare appetizer, another special of the day.
