When everything else was starting to close, this little oasis was still open. Dining Experience After a long day of doing the usual touristy things, we accidentally stumbled across Cucina Verona--and what a pleasant accident it was! It seemed like the whole town was closing down around 5 PM, which happened to be right when Cucina Verona was opening for dinner. We were looking for somewhere to eat and, more importantly, somewhere we could relax and unwind after a long day. The moment we walked in, you could feel the warmth of the room. Everyone was incredibly friendly and greeted us with genuine kindness. The service was wonderful, especially our server, Giovanni. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and personable. His service really matched the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. We ordered quite a bit: Antipasti di Formaggio, Garlic Bread, a bowl of Minestrone, Wild Mushroom Risotto with added Salmon, the Surf and Turf (lobster and steak), and the Pizza la Carne, which we took home. Yes, that's a lot of food! Everything was prepared and presented beautifully, and the portions were exactly what we expected for what we ordered. More importantly, the food tasted as good as it looked--which, believe it or not, isn't always the case. My wife and I enjoy ordering a variety of dishes so we can experience different flavors throughout the meal. We usually end up taking quite a bit home because we rarely come close to finishing everything. This time, though, we ate almost everything at the table. The only exception was the pizza, which we intentionally ordered to take with us. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and Giovanni had a lot to do with that. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was excellent, and the food was both well-presented and delicious. I don't like to focus too much on pricing because there is a lot of context that goes into how restaurants price their meals. If that's an important consideration for you, I'd recommend checking out their menu online before visiting. For us, it was a great find, and I'd definitely recommend giving Cucina Verona a visit if you're in the area! read more

Uninspired, misleading menu w/ undertrained staff and overcooked food. Such a shame - came for the Tuesday evening special dinner (family night) where the owner wrote a history of L'Aquila & food from the region, and then the dinner aligns with that. While a table was booked for 6:45 they didn't seat us til 7:!5. The waiter was awful - didn't introduce himself, didn't care about anything (other than maybe his girlfriend in the bar area), knew nothing about the L'Aquila tasting menu and provided no insights to the dishes, charged us $14/martini despite menu stating $8/drink. While the owner's write up and online menu included a dessert (Ferratelle Dolci), no dessert was offered or included at the actual dinner and the server said 'nope - no dessert'. This is so misleading and unexcusable when the promoted dinner menu includes it. Overall a disaster of a dinner - and sadly the food wasn't good either. The tomato starter was uninspired, the pasta cheese sauce hinted of Kraft or pre-packaed, and the lamb skewers were overcooked to the point of being almost jerky. Clearly an owner who spends more time writing his articles than he does training staff, providing food that matches the actual online menu, and ensuring some level of quality. So, can't recommend this place until substantial improvements are made. read more

We were in the mood for pasta/italian. Okay....I wasn't going to write a review this time because small towns and local restaurants need to survive so I didn't take any photos. I was just expecting decent. But I think what's unsettling is the price point so here is what we thought so you can make your own decision. I had a starter, the PAN SEARED DAY BOAT SCALLOPS. With this dish you get 3 scallops. I imagined typical-sized scallops but these were super small, about the size of a quarter (coin). The sauce and fennel salad tasted fine but for price I was imagining bigger. I think these were $24. The scallops were not that "fresh off the boat" taste, but edible. For price, I would say $18 at most. To be fair. The pasta with marinara was decent, but for boxed pasta and most likely canned sauce, $30 is a bit much to ask. We Asked for extra Parmesan cheese, instead of freshly shredded at the table, it came in a dish. That's more about being an Italian restaurant than cost. But to far, $20-$22, with fresh Parmesan! Not $30. We also ordered a mixed green salad, which was more like a side salad for 1. Again overpriced. The waiter said it was enough for 2 but it's not that big! Maybe 1 person eats and the 2nd person gets 2 bites. We did like the dressing. So in the end, the food was just okay (not fresh) but what made it all hard to swallow was the price point for quality ratio. WOW !!!! The food and the service were even better than the great reviews I'd read looking at options for making reservations. The Linguine Viareggio was absolutely fantastic!!! Shrimp and the day boat scallops were cooked to perfection, with the scallops almost melting in the mouth. The fresh basil strips topped off the very flavorful and perfectly 'light' cream pesto blend. The butternut squash lasagna too was combined with great flavors and much love in the prep! Horrible experience. First they gave me extremely dirty utensils (see photos). The spaghetti carbonara was extremely salty, I took two bites and could not bring myself to take another. The waiter was kind enough to take it off my bill. My son ordered their Prime rib special, and while he enjoyed it, they gave him weird tasteless black beans instead of ranch style beans that he asked for. We also ordered mussels as an appetizer, and they served it the same time as our meals. Most of the mussels were spoiled and rancid and unfortunately I swallowed many because I had nowhere to spit them out. I am now extremely ill and have been vomiting and in the restroom all night. Terrible terrible dinner, and it's my birthday! I'll have to spend the remainder of the night in my hotel because my stomach is churning and in pain and I'm now starting to get a fever. The service and the restaurant were phenomenal! From being used to places filling up around dinner time, a Saturday night is not a bad night to come here! We loved the atmosphere which they have live music playing! Our server was very kind and gave us recommendations. We were able to split and share a Cesar salad and they gave two plates to share which was kind instead of one big plate and we appreciated that. I give 4/5 stars for the quality of the food only because I felt the spaghetti noodles were a little salty along with the sauce being salty. I love love love spaghetti and this was the first time I've been to an Italian restaurant and felt something was salty because I'm never one to complain. It could have been an off day but from the time we ordered to the actual dinner entrees to come took more than 20 minutes and it wasn't too crowded. Also, we ordered cannolis and the shell didn't seem crunchy/fresh but the flavor was there and the texture of the ricotta was smooth! For a couple who ordered 2 appetizers , two main entrees, one bottle of red wine , and two cannolis to share, we spent about 200 which was a little bit pricier than we usual experience at a typical Italian restaurant so just a heads up. We've been coming here for decades and it's gotten progressively worse. Not sure if it's the ownership or staff but the food and service are severely lacking. They are now doing a special steak menu on Wednesday and Thursday nights so we thought we'd try that. The prime rib and ribeye were good and cooked to the right temperature although the ribeye was very thin (see picture). The bigger issue though is that the sides were atrocious. They had ranch beans listed as a side and the wait staff brought saad instead. When told it was supposed to be rach beans, he said that wasn't on the menu so I pointed it out to him. When he asked another staff member, he was told it's ranch style black beans. When they brought out the beans, they were not seasoned and tasted like they came straight out of a can. The baked potato had zero butter or anything on it and we had to ask for some. The prime rib was supposed to come with horseradish but we had to ask for it. The ribeye came with green beans that were rubbery and tasted and looked like they came out of a can. Three wait staff waited on us and it's like they weren't communicating at all. One dropped off steak knives and our dishes came with knives so we had 4 steak knives on the table. Their house wine smelled and tasted sour and awful. Luckily we swapped out for a nice cabernet. That said, we had to wait about ten minutes just to get some water. After all the mistakes, our waiter never came back. We will not be back. Some of the dishes on the menu are actually quite good, but it's very hit and miss and not worth the risk. Eat somewhere else. read more

This was our first trip to Cocina Verona, both the restaurant and their store. Both places have a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant has some of the nicest staff and the food was absolutely some of the best I've ever had. We were so excited to go for the specialty mixed drinks but didn't realize they were only served at dinner. Our waiter came back after ordering our food and gave us complimentary cocktails that he made just for us! Was one of the kindest things I'd experienced on that trip. Not mad you Cucina Verona, just disappointed! Came in for the MIL's 70th (which was stated in the reservation) we were seated promptly, told about special cocktails etc. and given a few minutes to look over the menu. Off to a good start! We then ordered a bottle of the house white, which was just one of the regular bottles on their wine list, the Fig and arugula salad with Gorgonzola, and entrees- pasta vongole, Black truffle gnocchi with shiitake creme sauce, sorrento style margarita pizza and fettuccine Alfredo. Wine arrived shortly, no issue. Followed by our "fig" salad. It was disappointing due to the fact that the figs were dried (during fig season?) and the Gorgonzola was minuscule crumbs. The flavor was just okay. While waiting for entrees, we noticed a few tables getting baskets of bread so when our server came by to top off waters we asked for some bread. He immediately said he could put in an order for garlic bread, I politely declined and asked for regular bread. He shrugged and said I can put an order in for that too.? He came back with a basket of bread and evoo. It was stale and seemed to be a two different kinds and reminded me of Safeway French bread. Kind of sad and we were charged for it! Nevertheless we had hopes for a great entree, wrong again. The vongole was very salty and seemed like the garlic and onions were burnt when the sauce was made. Black Truffle Gnocchi, not a truffle in sight or salt... the sorrento style pizza, while it had good flavor was not the sorrento style crust we've had there in the past. It was flat and didn't seem like it was cooked in the epic pizza oven they once had. The Alfredo didn't have any complaints but for $32 it was mid at best. There was no parmigian or peppers offered for pizza and pastas. No happy birthday wishes. We ordered a lava cake to share it was okay, one of only 3 dessert options for the night. All said and done it was a $200 dinner that didn't hit the mark. And to top it off our server told us to enjoy our stay in town. We're not tourists lol. At that price point we could have gone to the MacCallum or Ledford. Not sure we will return anytime soon. Not mad, just disappointed. read more

I walked up as a solo diner and sat at a small table in the bar area. Recommend making reservations if you're more than 1 person. Service was good! You could tell it was a little busy and hectic but I wasn't in a rush. Food had great taste! I'm picky on my carbonara- this was a little garlic heavy and you can tell they didn't incorporate the egg properly (had some chunks of egg when it should be smooth), but overall was very happy! The flavor was good (I don't mind some extra garlic), pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. My server recommended the limoncello mascarpone cake and I'm so glad I went with it! Not overly sweet, light subtle flavors. Cake was deliciously soft and pillowy. Oh and I did start with a cup of minestrone- DELICIOUS! I almost ordered another cup. Had reservations through the Yelp app. Was greeted walking in. Our table was set and being prepared as we arrived. Our host came a got us from the bar area once it was ready. The interior is bright wood finishes throughout and black table cloth service. Great place to enjoy a good meal with friends. After giving the menu a good look we started with a dozen Fanny Bay oysters on the half shell, half raw and half grilled. Both versions were good but my preference was raw. Next the Beet salad, this is a huge salad and our server split it beautifully three ways for our table. A good fresh mix of greens with beets and goat cheese. A nice vinagerette drizzle. Flavorful and fresh. For my entree the Veal Marsala, with mash, and a medley of sauteed veggies of squash, broccoli and carrots. An absolutely beautiful cut of veal, cooked to prefection covered in sauteed mushrooms and served over a nice mash with a rich marsala sauce. This was a great choice for dinner. For entrees we got the Chicken Piccata and the Scallop Risotto. Once again; both were delicious and the portions were huge. We were both stuffed; but we got a Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert to go. We reheated it later and added some vanilla ice cream. What a treat. Overall we were so pleased. Came here for dinner while vacationing in Fort Bragg. While searching for restaurants pre-trip I came across a Yelp review raving about this spot so I figured why not give it a try? I had heard most food in the area was just okay, and was excited to see some high praise. After much contemplation over the vast menu, I decided on the spaghetti carbonara and my mom the veal marsala. We enjoyed the fresh complimentary bread while waiting for our food, which took about 30 minutes to come up, and felt like a lifetime since we were so hungry. At least they kept the bread coming while we waited. Both meals were pretty good portions. The spaghetti carbonara was good, though not the best I've had, I still enjoyed it and ate every bite (only because we were leaving the next day and didn't have a place for leftovers). The veal was a little tough, but the Marsala sauce and the potatoes that came with the meal were both great. Our server was friendly and eager to answer any questions about the menu. We made reservations on Yelp the evening we planned to go, and it's good we did because the restaurant became pretty full! It seemed to be a good mixture of locals in for a date night and families on vacation. The prices seemed high for the pasta dishes, but since they were so well prepared we were OK with that. Portions were huge! Service was a little bit erratic.
