    Egg sandwich was outstanding
    James F.

Making the drive up highway one and found this beautiful cafe in the small town of Mendocino , California. Stopped in for lunch and had a great experience. The inside of the cafe is cozy decorated with beautiful art pieces. There is also outdoors seating available. I also watched people just buy stuff out of the bakery counter and also take to go orders. We\nWere seated almost immediately in our server was over minutes after that. She was very efficient and helpful. The menu has numerous choices , including multiple veggie and vegan options. We chose fresh berry , french , toast and meat , egg sandwich. Both were absolutely phenomenal. We\nWere in and out in thirty five minutes start to finish. Would highly recommend this place for a quick lunch or brunch situation.

We were only in Mendocino for one night and absolutely loved our stop at Goodlife! When you walk in, the line to the left is counter service and the line to the right is to be seated. We decided to eat in the cafe and even though it was super busy, we didn't have to wait. We ordered tea with honey, the avocado toast, and a couple other things. Everything was delicious and fresh. Would definitely recommend.

    Breakfast sandwich and fresh fruit!!

We've been coming here for coffee and breakfast for years. It's one of our favorites and must places to eat breakfast. The pastries are moist and delicious, including gluten free too!! Much appreciated!! Great service and atmosphere. So happy they're in the process of expanding. They need to, the line is constantly out the door, but worth it. They work like a well oiled machine as a staff. Love sitting outside, when the weather allows. They do have heaters as required. I highly recommend them!! Enjoy!!

We came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. There was a short wait of around 10-15minutes before we were able to get seated. I got the omelette with a side of salad and bread, and it was a yummy and filling meal. I especially liked the jam that came with the bread - me and my friends got different jams so we swapped amongst ourselves and tried them all out, and they're all great.

10/10 coffee and food. Sometimes I worry breakfast spots won't have good lattes since they aren't just a coffee shop, but I loved my latte and would definitely come back. I loved the smoked steelhead trout eggs benedict and would definitely come back to try more items. But also I would order that again.. We were seated quickly for a Sunday morning and I thought the indoor and outdoor seating were both nice options. I'll be back for sure!!

My family and I came here on an insanely busy day last week and we knew the wait would be long but honestly we were patient and the staff got us a seat right away. We were warned food would take up to an hour but our breakfast came out in half that! The staff worked so well under pressure. We ate a little past closing but didn't feel rushed at all. I had the most amazing Mocha i've ever had highly recommend. Some people were complaining about the birds outside but hello, you're outside there's gonna be birds. Definitely coming back on my next trip up so much small town charm with amazing flavor and surprisingly large menu selection.

Veggie scramble with side salad- very delicious
    N S.

My food was delicious - veggie scramble with side salad (vinaigrette dressing). Partner has Ruben special and sadly it had more sauerkraut than pastrami on the sandwich... also had a side salad with ranch. The side salads were quite yummy unto themselves as they were fresh greens with radishes, cucumber, pickled cauliflower, carrots, beets and more! Meal - no drinks (with credit card service fee) $51.11 4 star due to service being mediocre...we were on the tail end of the lunch rush. We would definitely eat here again if we were back for a visit in Mendocino.

Bit of a late review, but I went to Mendocino during the New Year and GoodLife Cafe was COMPLETELY PACKED even on a weekday. It was a bit confusing as they had two separate lines; one on the left for to-go coffee / pastry orders and one on the right for dine-in, which was wrapped out the door and spilled onto the sidewalk. There were about 6-7 parties ahead of me for to-go orders, which ended up translating to a 30 minute wait. Morning Bun (4/5): While this didn't have a light crunch on the outside, the bun was definitely super flaky with great lamination. Delicious pastry dusted with cinnamon sugar, what's not to love. Blackberry Cruffin (4/5): This is an absolute mess to eat and is quite sweet, but I enjoyed this wayyy more than I thought it would. This has a harder crunch on the outside compared to the morning bun and the custard is luxuriously thick with a generous amount of blackberry jam to add a bit of tartness (and more sweetness of course!). Definitely an item to share with a friend or two, but undeniably delicious!

It's been many years since visiting GoodLife Cafe. Their set up has changed a bit since I last came here (7 years ago) in that it's now full service sit down for any orders in. They also now close at 2. On a sunny weekend day, even at 1:15, the line was out the door for both dine in and take out. It wasn't a long wait and they were accepting new tables right up until 2. They have a large covered patio seating area, which is quite popular, but we got seated inside. This time around, I tried the veggie egg sandwich which had a mushrooms and greens, on whole wheat toast. Their bread was quite good and the sandwich held together quite well. Service was lovely and it was a nice brunch in between adventures. They feature a small array of locally made art for sale as well as jewelry, honey and more! I was tempted by the pumpkin walnut muffins and kind of regret not getting one-next time. This spot is deservedly popular and a wonderful dining option in Mendocino.

Cute and cozy café that gets busy quickly. Service is pretty fast and the portions are big. My favorites are the hot toddy(non-alcoholic) and the maple pecan cinnamon bun. There is seating indoors and outdoors, but if you do get a chance to sit outdoors, you get to enjoy watching the local birds, fly around staring intently at your food. There is a mini gift shop in the café that is made by local artists and overall the vibes of this café/bakery is one that supports their community while also providing delicious food. I would recommend coming here if you get the chance.

I went here twice during a weekend stay, which says everything. It really was that good. Loved the chilaquiles. The huevos rancheros were also excellent, and their habanero sauce takes it to the next level. Spicy, flavorful, and memorable in the best way. The toddy was unexpectedly good, and the overall vibe made it an easy place to linger. One small heads up if you're eating outside: the birds are bold. They will absolutely harass you and try to steal your food. Still worth it, just be prepared.

Nice service, really good environment, I had a blast doing takeout and exploring the vicinity. The bathroom was clean and well maintained and it was overall a great time. Loved my breakfast sandwich which was on sourdough with bacon bits, cheddar and egg scrambled with a side of potatoes, definitely stealing that when I get home. Portion sizes were generous. Matcha latte was also great too.

This place is popular. You'll likely have to wait for a seat. But it's worth it. The food is great. We had a great server too, Daniel. He was fun and right on top of it. We sat outside, but they have inside seating too. This is our favorite breakfast place in town. We will be back again and again.

The look is very much a country cafe vibe, yet somewhat upscale too. The lunch outside was so enjoyable. The space and garden is delightful. Seating is far enough apart so you don't feel cramped. I started with the soup of the day which was wonderful. Then I chose the Rock Fish Tacos and oh my goodness, some of the best tacos ever. I liked that they didn't automatically fall apart when you picked it up. Plus the flavor and tenderness of the fish was spot on perfect. For dinner during a subsequent visit sitting inside at a cozy table was equally enjoyable. Four of us had a tough time choosing entrees as everything on the menu looked appealing. We started and shared the cheese board which was fabulous. Local cheeses were the highlight and ever so good. For my entree I chose the Gnochi with vegetagles. I very much enjoyed the overall dish but the gnochi were somewhat sparse and not that good in texture. Surprisingly that didn't impact the overall impression as everything else in the dish was satisfyingly delicious. It was an adequate portion and the price point good for the quality. We went through two bottles of wine, one suggested by the server. It was spot on. This is a delightful restaurant and if you're in the area definitely make it a stop for either lunch, when available, or especially dinner.

Loved the food, the wine, the bath amenities, and the setting is nearly impossible to beat if you like a quiet retreat for a vacation. This year we decided to go back and stayed in Heron. Again, we were so happy to be here. Tremendously relaxed, barely looking at our phones, taking walks and having incredible conversations, etc. Eating breakfast on the balcony and looking out into the gulch and onto the Pacific Ocean was incredible. With the room provided binoculars we saw whale spouts out in the ocean. I didn't believe it when my wife told me until I saw it with my own eyes. Mendocino is lovely with a fun selection of great places to eat, the park overlooking the cliffs is a great place to run and walk, etc. One other thing I wanted to mention - I got a somatic Reiki experience with Alex, and it was truly profound. I've gotten Reiki for years but this was on another level. I am deeply grateful for that experience and it's continued to resonate with me for weeks after my return home. So if you go, I highly recommend this experience.

I've stayed at this B&B several…read moretimes over the past 20 years and the current (offsite and very distant) ownership group is quickly putting the final nail in the proverbial coffin. I'll start with the biggest issue. A total lack of transparency. When we booked our multi-nite stay, there was no notice of ongoing construction on the exterior deck AND the desk clerk said nothing about it when we checked in. The noise was off and on all day, including weekends. I'm not simply referring to hammering and sawing. The crew was playing music and SINGING along...right outside our windows. When we complained about this to 3 different desk clerks, all claimed ignorance and/or that they had "no control" over the situation". Similar situation during breakfast, when we were told they were out of 2-4 items on the menu EVERY morning. Regarding the menu, the entre descriptions were generally incorrect as what we were served never matched the entre description on the menu. Update the menu! The lack of communication among and between staff was remarkable and led to missed accommodations, confirmations or simply not getting a response at all. We learned quickly that we needed to tell every single staff member that we could find about any concern or question we had. Ridiculous. Regarding staff, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and simply assume that they are struggling, greatly, obtaining and/or retaining staff. The staff seemed very poorly trained on most functions, including basic customer service. They were pleasant, but uninformed often incapable, and totally unaccountable. This is a management issue, 100%. One of my fondest memories of the Brewery Gulch Inn has always been the setting and the current management is systematically destroying it. A casual look around the property, let alone a stroll, and you will see piles of debris, construction, or otherwise, dilapidated or decaying sitting areas, unkempt landscaping, and a general lack of attention. For those of us who remember the Brewery Gulch Inn from years past, this is one of the saddest parts of my review. On the positive/neutral side, the rooms are fairly well maintained (shower fixtures, light fixtures need attention), carpet is overdue for replacement). Housekeeping is attentive and thorough. For an Inn on the Mendocino coast that's charging upwards of $800-900 per night, depending on the room and season, it's shocking the entity that owns the Brewery Gulch Inn is allowing this to happen (and after talking with some other establishments in the area, I felt like the last to know). In summary, there are many locations to choose from in the area that provide a setting with service that match the price. The Brewery Gulch Inn is not one of them. Buyer beware.
