After a morning of canoeing Big River, we stopped in for lunch. The Harvest Burger, tuna melt, Reuben, and Chipotle Chicken Sandwich were all incredible. In fact, we loved it so much that before heading home a few days later, we made one last stop. This time we tried the Philly cheesesteak, BBQ chicken sandwiches, and I couldn't resist getting the Chipotle Chicken again--it was just that good! This place makes Mendocino Farms look like Subway. My boyfriend and I walked past it, and we were intrigued by the line of people going out the door. We decided to go right at opening the following day. I ordered the chipotle chicken on whole wheat, and my boyfriend got the crab cheddar on Dutch crunch. The chipotle chicken was so savory and amazing. The bacon, chipotle sauce, and tender chicken all went together so well with the veggies. We also got a cup of clam chowder that was delicious and hearty. Super fresh seafood that would warm you right up on a cold day in Mendocino. Opted for two sandwiches - a cold, albacore tuna salad sandwich that was loaded with tuna and well balanced in flavor, as well as a pastrami coleslaw sandwich that was also packed with meat. It was a really nice lunch to finish off our trip and left us feeling fully satiated for the long drive back home. I would highly recommend the rockfish sandwich on rye (get both tartar sauce and pesto) and the seafood stew. We also got the grilled crab and cheese which my boyfriend felt was a bit dry but otherwise also tasty. We are newly relocated to Sonoma County and are living in Sea Ranch and took a quick day trip to Mendocino. Late afternoon stomach grumbles had us looking for a fast casual late afternoon sammie and we found ourselves looking for this small home converted into a deli serving hot and cold Sammie's and salads. We got the classic Italian on Dutch crunch ($12) and the hot pastrami Ruben ($12) also on Dutch crunch and both sandwiches hit the spot. Two diet cokes and a seat behind the deli at a picnic table and we were set and quite full for less than $30 for the two of us. A few outdoor chairs are available, more of a few small bistro sets. This is more of a pick up food and enjoy the sites where you are staying or picnic vibes at a great view location. While on a day trip out to Mendocino, we ducked into the city to grab a quick bite to eat. Due to covid challenges, many restaurants were adapting to not having dining areas, and we weren't sure where to go for our lunch so this is where we ended up. My first impression was that the exterior of the restaurant was too busy. They had dozens of signs stuck to the wall in different kinds of handwriting and different styles about soups that they had and pastries and appetizers and types of bread and the list goes on. I felt like it was really overwhelming because you didn't really know where to look or how anything was organized and as a consumer I felt like that was something that could have been done differently. Once we decided what we wanted after reading all of their flyers on the walls, I opted for the crab melt $13.50, and a cup of the clam chowder $5, and he ordered the rockfish sandwich $13, and a bag of chips. Despite us being the only people there ordering at the time, it took them a good amount of time to put together our sandwiches and I thought that was surprising. While we waited I tried to get a glimpse of what the interior looked like before they moved to an outdoor dining setting and it seemed quaint with a lot of local offerings. They called our name and we took our food to our car and dug in immediately. The first thing I tried was the clam chowder and it tasted so bland I wasn't sure if perhaps I had gotten the wrong item. The only thing that I could taste was spicy but it wasn't anything particular like jalapeno and I definitely couldn't taste any clams or any of the herbs or spices that it looked like it had in it which was sad. For the sandwiches, my crab melt was very squishy, however I do have to say that the bread seemed very fresh and the veggies were also fresh. His rockfish sandwich was the best of the three, but even that was not very interesting, and the tartar sauce could have used a little more kick to offset the fish and the bread. I think probably this place has done a better job in the past pre-covid, and when people are able to see more of their daily and local bakery items, I think they have a closer connection to the food and the purveyors. Ultimately we ended up throwing away our sandwiches and the clam chowder into the trash near the Mendoza market. Then promptly we sat in our car and watched a guy pick them out of the trash and drink the clam chowder so I guess somebody ended up enjoying it? Prices were fine for the area, however I feel like they need much more attention to detail in terms of seasonings, and construction of their sandwiches to get around the sogginess. Parking is easy and plentiful on the street and the people working there were very friendly and ultimately our issues were really the quality and flavor of the food. read more

Saw rave reviews on their crab sandwich and clam chowder, so had to stop by and try them! Stood in line for about 5 minutes, ordered at the window, waited in the back porch area, and waited for our names to be called. The crab in the crab sandwich is the legit stuff!! Looks like they scooped it right out of a claw! It was so sweet and paired perfectly with the saltiness of the cheddar cheese and the crunchiness of the dutch crunch. Clam chowder was also delicious. Got a few sandy clams, but the consistency is more liquidy than thick, which I personally prefer, so 5/5 from me. Ordered to-go and ate on the beach!! Such a wonderful lunch!! My friend got SO SICK. What was supposed to be a scenic drive down the coast back to SF was spent pulling over on the side of the road every 20m for her to throw up straight clam chowder or have liquid diarrhea. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Clearly safe food handling and/or storage is not being followed. I will NEVER come back here again. DO NOT EAT THE CLAM CHOWDER. Wowee! The BEST meal that I had in Mendocino! Yuuuup. It came from right here at this tiny little market. A total hidden gem! I made it right before they closed and was able to grab lunch for a day at the beach, and these guys at the Mendocino Market did NOT disappoint. I came with the intention of ordering their crab sandwich. Um, wrooooong! That bad boy had been sold out for hours before I even got there. The nice gentleman working at the window recommended that I try the rock cod sandwich instead. You know I love me a good recommendation. And he def did right by me. This sandwich was the BIDNESS babaaay! So fresh and delicious! I also got a cup of their clam chowder and he also convinced me to ty of their cookies. Y'all... this ENTIRE meal was heaven. HEAVENLY! Took it to the beach and grubbed like it was my last damn meal on earth. The rock cod sandwich was one of the best fish sandwiches that I've ever consumed. The bread was nice and soft, the fish had a nice buttery pan fried taste that I just couldn't get enough of, and the flavors were just so on point. The fish was flakey and filling. This was an excellent showing of this sandwich. I can only imagine what their crab sammy tastes like. But just from know how they get down with their fish sandwich, I'm already knowing that their crab sandwich is bombsy. The clam chowder was warm, thick, and flavorful. It was packed with lovely chunks of potatoes, clams, and crunchy celery pieces. And that COOKIE! Dear Gaaawd. It was literally orgasmic. It had me wishing that I had purchased a few more. It was large, soft, and super chewy! Loved that damn chocolate chip cookie. These guys work hard here too. They were so full of energy and provided excellent service. Although their posted hours say 4:30, they sometimes run out of things and may end up closing early. I came around 3:30 and ended up being their second to last customer. Just call ahead if you're cutting close to closing time to see if they're still open. Right now their serving their food out of a pickup window during COVID. I'm sooo glad that I stopped by here for lunch! This is definitely going to be a regular stop off now during my future trips to Mendocino. read more
