I went to this restaurant on March 19, 2026, after a really difficult day. I just wanted to relax with my girlfriend, enjoy a few glasses of wine, and have a good meal but, the experience was extremely disappointing. The service, in particular, was frustrating. While we were still enjoying our appetizer, the waitress kept coming back to our table every few minutes at least 8 to 10 times pressuring us to order our main course. It made us feel rushed and uncomfortable instead of relaxed. At one point, around 9:02 pm, she even mentioned that the kitchen was closing, even though the restaurant closes at 10 pm. That completely took away from the experience. We couldn't even enjoy our dinner properly. As soon as we finished, she brought the check right away without offering dessert or coffee, which made it feel like we were being pushed out. Found the little restaurant, which is attached to a large mid-Beach condo, when we were in Miami a day ahead of a cruise. We were able to catch the free trolley from our accommodations to the cafe. Most of us hadn't eaten since breakfast due to a long travel day so we were hungry and ready for an early dinner. We greeted by the friendly staff and quickly had our cold cocktails. Two friends decided on a pineapple margaritas but they both thought there was something off with the drink. Perhaps the pineapple juice? It wasn't very busy since we weee there on the early side. The drinks (watermelon cosmo $16 + $4 grey goose & Casamigos resposado with club soda $22) were good but pricey in our minds. My husband and I split a grilled pompano meal ($ 46.00) l. Our starter, guacamole with homemade chips (stale), didn't arrive until after the entree. The portion sizes were also a tad small. This was such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere in which to have dinner. The menu is quite varied - spans American dishes to tacos on Tuesday to Cuban-inspired. I actually had the burger and it was great! It is located on the ground floor in the back of the condo building. I was offered a small bowl of fried plantain chips initially. It is rare that a restaurant offers anything "on the house." It was taco Tuesday! There were several tacos offered, skirt steak, grouper, mahi mahi, pork and vegetarian. My crispy shrimp taco was an excellent blend of flavors. It was truly outstanding. Hidden away in the lobby of a condo building is a little oasis of waterfront dining with a view of the Intracoastal Waterway and tasty tropical dishes. I'd seen Cafe Bernie's mentioned on another Miami Beach social media page and had a chance to stop by for a quick weekday dinner. You drop your car off at valet (or rideshare) then sign in at the front desk. There is inside dining space but try to access their waterside patio for your bites. (I heard they also have a weekend brunch menu) Niko my server was super friendly and on-point with suggestions. After ordering a chilled glass of Pinot noir and enjoying some complementary mariquitas (green plantain chips), I ordered straight from the main course. (Yes, I previously researched the menu). Although their menu seems to emphasize seafood, their beef courses are just as yummy. Personally, my dinner was their deliciously messy and sticky guava bbq ribs. Served with a side of basmati rice rice & a dish of black beans (frijoles negros), these are the kind of ribs you eat by hand at a picnic or your favorite sports bar with a generous lather of tangy sweet guava bbq sauce. Your fingers will get sticky - even though you're in a nice condo go ahead and lick them. Yes the ribs are that good! (They do have lemon scented hand wipes to clean your hands and phone screen). I also enjoyed an extra side of lightly crispy & thick yucca fries with ketchup. A slice of pistachio-dusted & whipped cream garnish key lime pie with a thin graham crust and lime scented jigglyness closed out my meal. I made reservations to have dinner at Cafe Bernie for my bday! When I say I enjoyed everything here! The owner Bernie greeted me at the door and treated me so nice my entire time there. The restaurant was packed and he made sure I was seated outside to view the oceanfront as I requested. My food was delicious , I ordered the shrimp scampi and the fish and chips (red snapper bites). My chicken sandwich here was absolutely amazing. So we were staying down the road and didn't want to eat at our hotel. Fun fact, the bike path leads to more hotels and condominiums. I thought there would be cute little cafes or bistros or some sort of food place and no. Nothing. My SIL saw this place and at first we were confused where it was located. Across the street, inside a condominium building. Parked our bikes, signed in at the front desk, walked past some beautiful & very expensive art work and found the restaurant! Chose to sit outside since the weather was prefect. Friendly staff, fabulous food and some maintenance work being done on the building. The Lobster Quesadilla fared better in terms of flavor. Unfortunately, service was slow, and the restaurant seemed understaffed--it took about 25 minutes just to get our bill. I've only been here for lunches. Both myself and whoever I'm with always loves Cafe Bernie. This is a very unassuming location. You have to pay for valet parking ($5+tip) unless you're strolling in on foot. If you're staying in the area and want a quiet place to enjoy a nice lunch at a good price...walk on in. This is your place. I highly recommend, as your meal, their famous seafood chowder. It's very filling. What I've also done is split their Cubanazo sandwich (which is amazing) with someone and you'll be perfectly full. Their drinks and desserts are ok. I'm more about the food, and the food here does it for me. The service and cleanliness here is always amazing. Figure you'll spend $35/pp for lunch including tax and tip. read more
