Service was amazing! The barista was very kind and openly expressed how happy she was that we popped in. The prices aren't bad, they're pretty typical. However, the drinks tasted terrible. I ordered an iced americano with a little sugar-free vanilla syrup. The taste was just strange, like an odd spoiled sour flavor. I ended up tossing it after forcing myself to drink a bit of it. My friend got the mango matcha and the drink refused to mix at all. I didn't try it so I cannot comment on the flavor, but my friend also ended up tossing about 3/4 of it. Because we were on a schedule, we did have to leave right after getting the drinks. But perhaps if we could've stayed longer, something could've been done to make the drinks taste better. Wanted to give this local place a try instead of Starbucks or blank street. I had just gotten off a jog and had my AirPods in and wanted a quick coffee. Unfortunately, was not able to complete my order. The barista was extremely rude to me and bullied me about ordering while having my AirPods in. Mind you I did not have any music or the AirPods turned on. I asked her to repeat something in which she assumed I was not listening to her because my AirPods were in. If looks could kill... This coffee shop is no less than a gorgeous art gallery. Moment u step in, it gives u a feel of an entirely different world. It's a family run business by a couple, we met the wife who seems to be super nice and hospitable. They serve great quality coffee and large variety of pastries, croissants and quiches, makes for a good breakfast option at UES. Let me start by saying the woman who made my beverage was very nice, but the beverages---oh honey no. I'm fairly certain my drink was all milk and sugar. This is no place for the coffee aficionado. I don't consider myself one..but I could not stomach more than 2 sips. As a heads up, the chai tea is made with that synthetic tasting powder people get on Amazon. Lastly, this wouldn't be a big deal--sometimes coffee isn't great; however, if you're paying $9 for a coffee with REGULAR milk...it needs to at least be edible. I expect spending $7 on coffee in the UES and usually it's at least okay--but this was just painful. There was also nowhere to sit--there was two tables, but they were 'reserved' This isn't a fancy place so I don' know what that was about. It's highly rated but I am having a hard time writing this review because of uncomfortable vibes coming from and something that was said to me by the employee behind the counter. This particular day I was looking for a light meal to take home for my brunch. The Cafe caught my eye from across the street. I thought I had visited in the past. I saw the fairly extensive menu in the window and figured I surely would find something to eat. The quiche sounded great. When I entered I was amazed at how cute the place was and the decor was old fashioned homelike. I noticed the lighting immediately too. The place is very appealing to your eyes. I was greeted with a unsmiling face that peeped out from behind the counter. "May I help you". I definitely was excited asking how long they had been here and saying I can't believe I haven't seen the cafe before. I was told it's been here a long time. I had already been taking lots of photos and I said I would like to post them on Yelp. It was a good time since I was the only customer there. When we were talking she gave me the business card and appeared to dismiss me like her job was done. I started looking over the pastries and telling her what I wanted to eat. Basically anything with cheese and spinach. She mentioned things that I said I was allergic to and sweet items. She had a ham and cheese croissant that looked good but one Ham and Cheese croissant a week is enough for me. When I was hesitating trying to decide she interrupted with, for lack of a better word, advice about my behavior. She proceeded to tell me what I should or should not be doing when I enter a business. I was so deflated in spirit and felt like I was two years old being chastised by an adult. At that point I agreed with her and found a way to close the conversation and exit. I'm not sure why I'm giving this place three stars. I think it's because I may not have communicated clearly about the menu. Bottom line her out of the blue criticism gave me a lasting uncomfortable feeling about this business. When she finally came to the front, she said, "what do you want?" Third and final red flag...After picking up my dinner from Café Blériot XI, I arrive home to Bklyn only to find mold on my sandwich. Note, I had pre-ordered my food through an app, otherwise, I would have left the restaurant at red flag #2. Mold on food can indeed be a health hazard.
