One of my favorite restaurants! Been going since I was young. Everything they make delicious and always comes to the table hot.

First time visit, service was attentive and food was great. Will invite my family there again.

I had a very unpleasant experience with the manager, Karen. Friends of mine had a wedding reception there, but the manager didn't reply to "table arrangements" request through emails prior to the scheduled time at all. All they wanted is making money. We had reserved the time from 3:00-5:30pm for the wedding dinner purposes. But we were unable to decorate the tables at 3:00pm as scheduled because they had another baby shower party there. We were requested, and the only request, to have the "head table" facing the guests against the wall for the better photo shots. Karen refused to accommodate this request for the beautiful couple on their special day. But she was able to moved around tables for the other baby shower party prior to ours. I wonder why? So unfair? So unprofessional? read more

Be careful what you order here. We have been dining here for a long time. Even followed from when they were on Torrence Ave in Lansing. The food tonight was unfortunately terrible. I was told I was the only person who disliked the entree. . Very disappointed. When discussed with server he asked if we wanted to order something else we said yes. He did say then we had to pay for the unappetizing dinner and whatever else we would want to order. So what does one say?!!!!!! Extremely disappointed. I have eaten here here twice, once with a small party of coworkers and once by myself. The food quality is a great dine dining experience. The portions are very filling. And the warm bread served before and during the meal could almost be a meal by itself. Love my meals so much I tend to over indulge with the food. The service is great. My glass was never empty. We just flew into Midway from Austin and were looking for a nice place to treat our daughter for lunch. I would like to give 5 stars but the waiters weren't very well informed about the drinks or menu. This could be a Covid thing, new hires? Also, there was not a lunch menu. The food was 5 star, fresh pasta and bread to die for, but too large a serving for lunch. It was well worth the $$ price but obviously was not attracting a lunch crowd. read more

I'm never eating here again. The food has gone downhill but the primary reason was the treatment I received from the owner. We arrived very early to eat on a weeknight, around 4, and I accidentally parked in the curbside pickup as the space was unmarked. We sat inside and happened to be located directly where I could see the curbside pickup spaces. The whole time we were there no one parked in any of those spots. We were at the end of the meal, had paid the bill, and were finishing our coffee when the owner came up and yelled at me to move my car immediately. I pointed out that the space was unmarked and his words were "well in all this time no one has mistaken those curbside pickup spots for regular parking". Needless to say his behavior and disrespectful tone were totally uncalled for when I had made an honest mistake. As far as the food goes, the pizzas are gloppy and no better than getting Pizza Hut or Dominos, I had the steak that night which had a tasteless wine sauce, mashed potatoes and broccoli that was either mush or raw depending upon the bite I took. Stay away from this poor excuse for a restaurant. Went there twice, first time was pretty good, but the second time the salmon Alfredo was horrible it was like a soup more than a pasta. The owner will not take any food back and you will be charged for that nasty dish. This place would not last a minute in a big city. Never in my life have I heard "if you won't like it we can take it back but it's staying on the bill" don't believe me try it go there order something and see if they take it back I dare you :) read more

Food is not good. Woman manager is rude. I ordered food that tasted horrible. Waiter and manager said: "You read the menu, you knew what you were ordering." They offered to have me order something else, but I'd have to pay for both. We spent over $200...but I won't be back for that Prego tasting Italian mess! read more

Saved by the Food.. Have to start with 1/3 of the bill component which included the drinks. Tried the Rose Sangrias, and that was a bad move as these tasted more like Shirley Temples, than any type of a sangria. We let our waitress know that we were displeased, but instead of offering another type of drink she responded with, "What do you want me to add to it"? Upon our recommendation to actually add liquor to this $14 alcoholic beverage, our waitress said that she could add shots but be charged for them, and the substandard drinks could NOT be removed from our bill. Upon asking to speak to management. Our waitress responded by saying that she is the Bar manager. She remade both drinks but only seemed to add more grenadine to the Shirley temple tasting drink. Okay, so customer service is not the best. We had calamari for our appetizer and they were pretty good, with a light batter. Our entrées were very good. Baked lasagna and shrimp and shells were the choices and they didn't disappoint with ample amounts of meat, pasta and flavor throughout. In addition to the bad attitude, our waitress seemed to be in a hurry and rushed throughout the meal. Again, this could have been a nice experience, but when 1/3 of your bill component is failing that only leaves you with 67% being good. I just feel bad that I had to pay for $28 of a mostly nonalcoholic drinks. I rarely condone not tipping, but the food was paid for, the service was substandard and she should have paid for those drinks. read more

I was warmly greeted by the host and given my choice of dining in the cafe, the lounge or outside. Usually, when I am by myself, I sit at the bar, so that is where I headed. I was warmly greeted by the bartender as well. She promptly asked me if I would like to eat at the bar or just have a drink or two. She grabbed a menu for me and pointed out the specials and went to get my root beer. When she returned, she didn't just sit the beverage in front of me, she poured it for me. That was a nice touch as that was all the time I needed to figure out what I wanted to order. I got the Mushroom soup, it was heavenly!! Easily the best mushroom soup that I have ever had. All the mushrooms were very fresh! The soup was clearly "built" in house and was not out of a jar or quickly made. It had several layers of flavor. Then I had the fried calamari. It was OK, but not really what I was expecting from an Italian restaurant. They were overcooked/deep fried and not flash fried. They had the aftertaste of fish, not calamari. Old grease? Dunno. I won't order that again. The fettuccine Alfredo with Salmon was good, but it didn't taste like it was made with the expensive cheese that I am use to. It was still quite good though. The next time, I will ask for the Salmon on the side. I didn't care for it being broken up into pieces and tossed into the fettuccine. I prefer the salmon whole so that I can eat it separate or together as I wish, per bite. All in all, it was a excellent visit and I will return soon. The service could not be beat! I just need to be more familiar with how this particular chef cooks & plates his dishes. That was the only thing that threw me off.... I would Highly Recommend Café Borgia!! read more

Why on God's green earth would you own a restaurant and then treat your customers terribly? A friend and I arrived early (5:30) for dinner. They do not take reservations. We were seated promptly in a half full dining room. From the second we sat down, we were continually pressured to hurry. We could not have a conversation without being asked if we were ready to order. This is so unusual for a pricey, romantic Italian restaurant. Plates were practically snatched out from under us. The server hovered waiting for my credit card. It was truly creepy. I ordered around 5:40 and was in my car at 6:30. Nuff said. Food wise it was ok. Overpriced house salad. Chicken in smoked chicken rigatoni was chewy. Flavors were good. I just couldn't enjoy them. I think if you arrive at 2 PM you might be able to enjoy your food leisurely. read more

This rating is not for the food. The food at this restaurant is excellent. My rating is for the lack of Covid-Precautions. I stopped at this restaurant today and NOT ONE precaution was in place: masks were not required to enter or to dine (when not eating); there was no social distancing of any kind, unless you waited for the restaurant to empty & then found an isolated table (there were 30 tables in this restaurant & all were set for service & more than 1/2 were filled at the lunch hour); no wait staff wore masks or gloves & they certainly didn't keep a distance when taking orders. Finally, there was no sanitizing items of any kind (wipes or hand sanitizers, much less anyone wiping down anything at the entrance doors or bathrooms). I will go back to this restaurant but not until there is herd immunity. I just regret that this establishment has such little regard for its customers. read more

I have been a customer since they were in Lansing. Went for lunch early on Saturday, was not crowded and still the service was terrible. Waitress acted like she didn't want to be bothered. one of our orders was completely wrong. Soup was not good at all. Salad just adequate Not much flavor. Waitress neglected to ask everyone in our party of 3 if they wanted dessert. Seems what they do best is raise the prices. quality of the food has gone down. I won't be returning. DO NOT SUPPORT CAFE BORGIA! @Chef Mike Jesso your partner Karen is putting your professional profile at risk with her atrocious business practices. My guess is that you take pride in your work and that if you knew this food left the kitchen like this you might want to rectify the situation immediately??? I've never once filed a complaint or left a review on any place of business that I frequent. I've always found a middle ground with any discrepancies I might have. I've been a customer of this restaurant since they were in Lansing, IL. I've hosted a wedding shower, multiple baby showers, large Birthday parties, and order food every month at this place. Thousands and thousands of dollars have been spent in this place.. After decades of placing special events and monthly dinners at this restaurant, I will never step foot in there again. *We ordered dinner for our family (includes children) - for curbside pickup. *I left a generous tip and drove home (I live 4 minutes from Café Borgia) *Got home and started to plate the food and my kids immediately asked why their food was burnt. *I looked over all the meals and they were all visibly burnt. They took a bite or two since they were really hungry and this was our dinner we waited an hour for. They could not stomach more than a bite. *I called the restaurant and was passed from bartender to bartender and had to restart my case with each person, who said hold on. I was then hung up on. I called back and they told me they can't do anything for me, they had a lot of customers to service instead of me, and to file a complaint online. I would never find this an acceptable response for any situation. I paid them for a service they didn't provide. I work really hard for my money and being told they are busy and to deal with it, didn't sit well with me. * I called back and demanded to speak to a manager or someone who can help remedy the situation. What the bartender did next was the worst move you can do in the service industry. She said "WE HAVE A STRONG SUSPICION THAT YOU TOOK THE FOOD HOME AND COOKED IT BECAUSE THEY HANDED ME THE FOOD RIGHT WHEN IT WAS READY". A few things to note about this statement. 1. They are accusing me of paying for food, driving it to my house (4 min away), cooking it more and creating this nightmare of a situation, then calling them 6 minutes after picking up the food to voice my concerns. Yes this really happened. She accused me of overcooking the food at my house 6 minutes after I left with the order. 2. The lady on the phone couldn't process in her head that I was telling the truth and that the food could have actually been overcooked like I was referencing. I had pictures and offered to send them, to which she said we don't know what you did with the food after you left and we don't receive pictures. Make a complaint online. * After no refund, no new food, and being accused of burning everyone's dinner at my house after I picked it up- I headed to the restaurant hoping to address this accusation in person. * I pulled Pablo to the side and said I would like a word with Karen (owner that still has no clue who my family is after 20 years of loyalty to her business). * Karen came to the door entry and I started to explain who I was so she would understand the landscape and that I was a 20 year loyal customer who was just treated horribly and I wanted to fix this situation because I felt taken advantage of. She said ok, can you take a seat right here. She then proceeded to usher in new guest and take them to seats. I couldn't believe my eyes. GAVE ZERO CARES ABOUT ME BECAUSE SHE ALREADY HAD MY MONEY. Just cared about the new money coming in the door. WHEN WOULD ANYONE ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM???? * I explained what just happened and she said they are doing their best. If this was their best, I feel strongly they are in the wrong business. *She wouldn't even look at the gnocchi I brought in as an example of how BURNT my food was. This was a HUGE SIGNAL that she didn't want to fix this situation. I told her I wanted a refund. She told me she was going to call the cops on me. I invited that notion because finally maybe someone can sort this situation out. She took my money and I have NO edible food. She started yelling at me and took the same stance as her bartender, which was how do we know what you did with the food after you left. I couldn't believe my ears. No empathy that my family had no dinner or that she took my money without providing the service I paid for. If you choose to spend your money at this place - just know who's pockets you are putting it in and what kind of people they are (literally the worst). I'm a reasonable person and ANY EFFORT they would have put forth would have been appreciated. Instead, they issued no refund, no food that wasn't burnt, accused me of burning the food (6 minutes after picking it up), and told me she would call the cops on me for finding this completely unacceptable. Since we couldn't get into Three Floyds AGAIN(too crowded) we stopped here since it was down the road and we were starving. Great bread, good drinks(but pricey) and pretty yummy food. Love this place! A complete and pleasant change from all the traditional fare and bbq joints in the area. Service was very attentive on Sunday late afternoon when husband and I visited after a play. Walk in and be transformed by an eclectic, somewhat boho menagerie mural whimsy on the walls. The ceilings are high with beautiful glass lighting fixtures. Outdoor seating available if weather is nice. Rigatoni with smoked chicken sings and so too the braised boneless beef rib. Killer cheesecake too and a fresh prepared peasant salad. Bread galore during entire meal, portions are more than adequate with enough to take home for pasta. read more
