Oh yes, once again here for business; was going to try another restaurant in town due to a review about a smell from possibly bad plumbing. Thought I would go anyway. The best Tomahawks ive had ever!! Been coming here religiously for the past 5 years now. Pork chop is pretty good as well. Don't forget to try the coconut shrimp as its to die for. Food and service was excellent last night. We went early as we had our sons who are in a perpetual state of starvation. Our server was courteous and very attentive and it was busy so even though he had multiple tables, he still made us feel as though we were his only table. He never left our drinks empty. We had the Latino egg rolls for an appetizer and they had very good flavor and were crispy and warm. Hubs had the Mar y Tierra and I had the chipotle milanesa and they were cooked to perfection. Great and a different take on Mexican food. Fresh made ingredients that is added to their salsa, salads, and other foods. Their burritos are out of the world and if you want something different get a quesadilla. Their tap beer selection can be better but they have a great drink menu with terrific selection. The Argentine Steak salad with Chimichurri sauce was amazingly fresh and fantastic. Our server Brittney was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. My friend and I had a seat in the bar. Our server (I guess you could possibly classify her as such) dropped two menus off and bolted. No words. Not a hello. No water. No chips. No obligatory pleasantries. Just. Rude. Being someone who was there with a clear agenda I went to the bar where a friendly girl took my simple order: "2 margaritas, on the rocks. No. No Patron!.. No, I don't drink Patron.. fine Cazadores..." Then the blessed beverages arrive... The "margarita" (if you call it) tasted like triple sec and lime concentrate. Cafe Bravo has a great atmosphere for a small town. I would consider it more of a Tex Mex restaurant rather than a Mexican restaurant though. It has a wonderful flow with the bar when you enter and seating off to the side. They also have an area that would be great for a larger group. The menu has multiple options and everything I have ever had at this restaurant has always had an unexpected twist. I love that they use fresh mango in their salsa. They also have great portion sizes that I never feel overly full or hungry at the end of the meal; however, the presentation of the food has always been exceptional to me over the taste. Where everyone knows your name...except if you are not from here and just driving through town...I came here when we stopped overnight in Oakdale before heading to Yosemite. The food was just okay in my opinion or maybe it was just my dish, I had a pork dish w/ rice and beans. The food came out super quick after we ordered which made me wonder if they actually cooked the stuff. I still ate everything, and ate too much! We even went for the chimichanga dessert which was yummy...but ouch, tummy hurt. Anyway, it seemed like a fun place for locals to come, they have tvs and showed the nba finals when we were there. We were headed back from Sonora and found this little gem hidden in a strip mall on Yelp. We got in right before noon on a Sunday and the place was almost empty but there were a decent amount of patrons by the time we left. The service was friendly and we got our drinks and orders putt quickly. I got the pollo fundido after reading some other Yelpers reviews. I was not disappointed! It was rich and flavorful with tons of gooey cheese. The rice and beans on the side were also cooked just right. My only issue is the saltiness of the food as other have mentioned. As awesome as my fundido was, they probably could've cut the salt down by more than half so be careful if you're on a sodium restriction. My other dining partner raved about the bacon wrapped shrimp. She got a large serving of plump shrimp wrapped in perfectly crisped bacon. The only complaint I heard was my fiancés shrimp in his Mar Y Terra was bland and under seasoned. We'll definitely be back next time we pass through. The menu looked great with more unique items than your typical Mexican fare. read more

Here in Oakdale, every one raves about Cafe Bravo. It's a very nice place, the service is very good and the people very nice. But the food leaves something greatly to be desired. I've had dinner there numerous times at the bequest of friends. Each time I had hoped that the food would have the flair and flavor that I've come to expect from the very good Mexican food available in the area. Every place is different, but each time I come here it's simply too bland. Having spoken to the staff at our last outing, they admitted that the food was toned down for the local palette. Went to Oakdale for an event and needed dinner first. Drove around then saw the neon lights in the window. Lots of cars in the parking lot so we decided to give it a try. What a find! Hubby's Bravo burrito was excellent and my "chicken with pesto openface quesadilla" was delish! The only thing my dish had in common with a "real mexican" quesadilla was that is on a tortilla -who cares, it was yummy. The service was superb! All of the waitstaff and bus help checked on every table not just their own "section." The owner even came around then sat with us while we finished our drinks and we told him how much we liked our new fav restaurant. Not joking at all- strongest at the door but also smelled into one dining area, how they've let that continue is beyond me. Restaruant was packed so maybe locals can't notice? I would definitely not call this a "Mexican" restaurant. Its an eclectic mix of Latin-inspired and fusion dishes. For being Oakdale, I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the flan since I never get that other than on special occasions. It was very yummy (we asked the waitress, the secret is some Kahlua and Barclay's ( I thought maybe she meant Bailey's?? Who knows.)) It was creamy and very good. The caramel sauce with the sprinkles of fine raw sugar and the spice was a nice touch. Anyways all of my family's dishes looked good. The only thing I saw that wasn't very appetizing was my uncle's taco. It looked like they used an Old El Paso taco shell -_- gross. He was displeased. So don't order the tacos haha. I would love to come try some of the other dishes. I am Mexican so sometimes I get tired of the same old flavors.
