On our way back from Groveland, we stopped in here for lunch and it was quite good. The 5 stars is based on that it was a quick stop and we were in Oakdale- it met all of our needs. We had Chili Rellenos and enchiladas and they were very good! Tasted authentic. The service was great. So they make a torta with meat on one side and the veggies on the other then slice it right down the middle in between both... eating it was confusing. I also ordered some "taco truck" tacos, two of them. They consisted ONLY of tortia, meat, and canola oil for seasoning. I got this $$$$30$$$$$ (THIRTY!!) dollar order to go. A couple of years ago I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars. I was excited that they have a vegan menu. I went with my family back in October 2025. I was appalled by everything...the service...the food...the PRICE!!! First, my family arrived before my husband and I and already had their chips/salsa/drinks. When my husband and I sat down, we were given only a menu. We were not offered chips/salsa or asked what we wanted to drink. We sat and looked at the menu. Finally, we put in the drink order but were still not offered chips/salsa. We sat and waited. There were only two waitresses, and the restaurant was crowded. We stopped a waitress and asked for chips/salsa. We then realized we did not have any silverware/napkins. We had to ask for everything because the waitresses weren't paying attention. When we got our food everything looked good...but...I did ask for a side of vegan sour cream and guacamole when I ordered my food and didn't get either. I told the waitress; she said she would get it, and it never came. I was halfway through my meal, and I had to ask again. They finally brought it out. THEN...the Bill...OMG!!! I couldn't believe my eyes. They charged $3 for guac and $6 for a tablespoon of vegan sour cream. For 2 people, it cost around $56. I was so disappointed. Also, we asked for to-go cups for our refills. They used to give large cups, but this time they were small cups. It didn't stop there...they charged almost $2 to use debit/credit. Take cash if you plan to go, but it's not worth it. I won't return to this restaurant and don't recommend it to any vegans. read more

While traveling home from our mountain get away we stopped here, because of other Yelp reviews. We were initially a bit nervous stopping with a van full luggage (thanks to the Bay Area "bippers"). But the parking lot was spacious and the area didn't appear to have much traffic, so we took a chance. The restaurant was a nice size, clean and not too busy at the time - just a few families enjoying their meals. I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas, and they were ok-not well seasoned, just ok. Because of this I requested more salsa (which was quite tasty), but I had to ask several times before it was eventually delivered to me by another server. I chose this place due to a previous review bragging about the salsa. In small town mid America where I am from the salsa taste like whatever the local supplier dumps in a jar and sends to the restaurants so this I had to try. The salsa here tasted homemade and fresh. Chunks of onions and peppers to please the pallet along with a little kick to sting the tongue. Add to it some fresh chips and this place was off to a great start! First time at a New Mexican restaurant I have to go with the standard combination plate. No apples to oranges comparisons but rather taco to taco. And this taco did good! Meaty insides with shredded lettuce and their cheese made it a very good taco. I combined that with a carne asada enchilada with green sauce and a chili rellano also with green sauce. All very tasty! I couldn't stop eating. I kept wanting more. The restaurant is a small one with indoor and outdoor dining. It's along the main drag through town heading up towards Yosemite or the gold country. I was there on a Monday night with few people eating in but a steady stream of to-go orders. There was a bar with a $10 36oz margarita but I passed this time. I liked it! The server was friendly, the place was clean, and the food was tasty. We were driving through and looking for a lunch stop. I chose Cocina Michoacana because I saw they had a vegan menu. I chose the 2 tostadas with beans and my husband chose the 2 tamales, both were on the vegan menu. My sons chose the bean and cheese burritos. The first things we tried were the chips and salsa. The salsa was great. It had flavor and enough heat to be interesting and keep me coming back for more. My tostadas were good. The green salsa over the top was a little lackluster but it wasn't anything the addition of some hot sauce didn't cure. The beans were fantastic! I eat a lot of beans at Mexican restaurants and these were some of the best. My husband was a fan of his tamales and agreed with me about the beans. The service was marginal at best OVERALL. Ambiance had only country music playing what a shocker in oakdale.... My burrito was less than desirable and my girls she though was ok... the service was good when we came initially in for chips and salsa and to refill our water cup.... the chips came out hot... the salsa had a good flavor big peaces of cilantro mostly stems.... (Yuk) so i base a Mexican restaurant by there chips and salsa partially .... So nothing to repot to bad on that part... my girl got identically to what i got pollo and me carne asada wet burrito only difference is i like mine on the side so i asked it for on the side he attempted (server) to have me get the burrito that has no wet sauce.... I expressed i want the same burrito just with the sauce on the side... i no that places will attempted to drown a burrito in sauce for a lack of spice or flavor to there meat. This is my place to stop in Oakdale when passing through. They have an entirely vegan menu (ask for it). I love tamales but rarely get them at a restaurant because they are usually only made with meat. Since tamales need to be made ahead of time, there's no special-ordering them with beans or veggies. But at Cocina, they have them ready to go and they are great. The salsa is good, too. We had some with our chips and then asked for two more servings for our main dish. Highly recommended! read more

The vegans in the group liked the food. I got the chili Relleno Burrito. Not super impressed. I was missing the spice. They give chips, salsa, and cabbage slaw.
