Came down for the weekend and stumbled upon this place close to APU where my family friend goes to! He said this is a popular study spot, so I wanted to check it out. Cafe Bungalow is located next to a McDonalds with plenty of seating inside. The interior is fairly open with a bunch of wooden tables. There were outlets and food/snack items, which made it no surprise as to why people would want to be here all day. Menu has a great variety with items like fresh tea (green, black, oolong) topped with cream, smoothies, milk tea, and the ever famous strawberry matcha. Prices are moderate. I opted for the oolong tea topped with cream and boba. Their boba was a bit chewy, but did not have much flavor. You couldn't really taste the oolong either as it was more of a sweet cream drink. My sister got their strawberry matcha, which was a let down. It was more of a strawberry milk drink as the "matcha" portion was just poorly mixed in and maybe a half of a teaspoon of their powder??? I just wouldn't get their matcha here. Their fries were yummy with that seasoning powder and crunchy! Good portion. Same with their popcorn chicken, but it was a bit rubbery. Overall, I wouldn't really go out of my way to come back for their drinks specifically. Looked like a cute place to try. We've come a couple times for a late brunch and it's so good! A little hidden gem! The food is excellent but most especially the chicken pesto sandwich, not sure if they make pesto in house or what but it's very tasty. I used to love this café. As a college student, I was a regular and would come here all the time to study. The main reason I stopped coming is because of the consistent unfriendliness from the barista with colored hair and glasses. She is always rude for no reason and communicates everything with an unnecessarily harsh tone. For example, since I came so often, I expected at least a little bit of patience. One time, I came in to study while waiting for my boyfriend to arrive so that we could order together. She came up to me multiple times as I was sitting down, rushing me to order, and was rude even after I explained I was waiting for someone. The drinks here are genuinely good that's why I always chose this place over every other boba spot in Azusa. However, my most recent experience is what pushed me to finally leave a final review. It was 8 PM, and they close at 9 PM. My boyfriend and I wanted drinks with honey boba. She said, "Let me see if we have boba," which was surprising because boba is their most popular topping. With an hour left until closing, how is there not enough boba? She checked and said there was enough for two drinks if we got "light boba." I found that insulting because why would we pay full price for the topping but receive less of it? If they're giving less product, there should at least be a discount for the inconvenience. We decided to take our business elsewhere. When we let her know, she responded in a rude tone again, insisting we "could still get boba," even though it wasn't the amount we wanted. There's no reason to pay for a drink that wasn't going to be made how we wanted it. The way she handled the situation was dismissive and unprofessional. Overall, her attitude and lack of customer service completely ruin what used to be one of my favorite boba spots. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back because her behavior reflects poorly on the business. I finally tried it with her while waiting for a show to start at the school and now I'd say we are regulars. We came to Citrus college for an event and happened to find this place on Yelp. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and shown the large menu of choices. After ordering, we found a seat in this cozy restaurant, which was well lit and clean. There's free WiFi and it's a nice friendly atmosphere inside. The food came quickly and was the perfect temperature. The flavors were authentic and exactly what we were hoping for. They give a frequency card for the drinks too, so come back for more bonuses. I visited Cafe Bungalow today with my sister. The sweet potato fries and vanilla latte were great, which is why I'm giving it three stars. However, I'm not rating it higher due to the customer service. My sister took a small table to read, and I took a larger one nearby to work, since it had more space for my stuff. When I first arrived, the large table was dirty, and since the barista was busy, I decided to clean it myself. But the barista then shouted at me, telling me not to move the plates and to put them back. I think there was a more polite way to handle that, as I was only trying to help. The situation got stranger when she served us our drinks. She asked my sister if she wanted to move to my larger table to make room for more customers. My sister and I were already settled in, with all of our things out, and there were hardly any other customers in the shop at the time (see attached picture). There were 16 seats open. We were confused and didn't move, but the barista seemed annoyed. I ended up staying for a few more hours, and the shop never got crowded. This interaction made both my sister and I uncomfortable. I'm so glad to have Cafe Bungalow be near my work place! More excuses for me to grab boba and snacks whenever I need a pick-me-up. My usual go-to order is the Popcorn Chicken (extra spicy), Fried Tofu (extra spicy), and 50% sweet White Peach Oolong. Both fried items are always crispy and flavorful. Individually, the portion size is good for an afternoon snack, or even a meal if you order both (like I do haha). For the White Peach Oolong, at 50% sweet is perfect for me without it being too sweet. Sometimes I'll order it with the sea salt foam depending on my mood. Overall, a really solid spot for boba and a snack and/or meal, and the space is great for people who want to go out and study. Service is also always friendly and welcoming. I'd rate this cafe 2.5 stars -- the pros: plenty of seating, staff were friendly, and there is a variety of both food and drinks on the menu. However, the cons were the drinks were not made up to par -- they were either too sweet or SEVERELY lacking in any real flavor. For example, the pumpkin chai latte, both hot and iced, tasted more milky and creamy than anything else; it needed more pumpkin syrup and chai flavor. The sour cream and onion fries were anything but! Instead of the flavor you'd typically associate with 'sour cream and onion,' the fries tasted like they were dusted in cinnamon. They were sweet! The curry fries needed more curry powder -- the staff seemed to have dusted only the top. So when you dig in, the fries at the bottom are devoid of any curry seasoning. How about coating the fries more evenly? We had to ask for more curry powder. The fries in general could be crispier -- most of them were soggy ... who likes bland, soggy fries? The fried mushrooms had a very strange, CHEWY texture. Flavor was OK, but the chewiness may throw some people off. What kind of mushrooms are these?! The beef lumpia were very thin, and honestly for the price of these food and drink items, nothing here is worth the money. We don't mind forking over money if the items we spent on are actually GOOD. I was very impressed with the woman working in the front. I'm not sure if she's the owner. She's hardworking. She took my order: a spicy popcorn chicken plate. She asked me how spicy I was, and I would like the popcorn chicken, and I said it was spicy as it could be. She also let me know that there's a plate special. For $2 more, you're able to add a regular size milk tea or a regular size tea with or without boba. I opted in for the boba milk tea. While I was deciding where to sit, she prepared the milk tea with boba. She then took it to me and ensured my popcorn chicken plate was being made. Once it was ready, she brought it out. The spicy popcorn chicken plate was spicy and delicious. It made my lips red. The amount of popcorn chicken was also very generous. The cold veggies were also good. The rice was a nice addition to the spicy popcorn chicken. The milk tea was good. It wasn't too sweet. I actually forgot to change the sweetness and ice level. I had an extremely frustrating experience. I went in and asked for just a cup of boba, and the employee told me they didn't know if they could give it to me because the people behind me might want boba. I was honestly shocked by this response. I was there first, I was ready to pay, and I was still a customer like anyone else. It made absolutely no sense that my order was refused based on what other customers might want. If boba was limited, it should have been sold to the customer who ordered first. We ordered to-go, so we expected the food to not be crispy when we brought it home, and that wasn't a factor in my rating. Popcorn chicken rice plate: The portion was okay for one person, but the chicken was really powdery, dry, and tough. It felt overcooked. Dish came with some rice and and a little bit of cold slaw, but the rice was hard. I can't comment on the cold slaw, since I normally don't like it and didn't try it. Milk tea with boba: boba was a bit hard and undercooked. Milk tea itself was decent-right amount of sugar and milk at regular sugar levels. Sour cream and onion fries: It was really salty. I couldn't taste the sour cream or onion flavors because it was overwhelmed by the salt. I like that since I purchased a meal, my tea was only $2. This is one of my favorite place to come study at. I always order a boba for myself and study for a bit. However! the 25 cent service charge for not ordering more than $10 is a bit steep especially if you are coming consecutively. I've sat there long enough on days I have to study and seen people come and go and order their food. The one this that I makes no sense is the 50 cent charge for ranch or sweet chili that people order along with their food. To me it would make sense if they asked for an additional sauce on top of what was given to them but its not. Blaze pizza doesn't charge for ranch or extra ranch. I would say the surcharges here add up, and the boba to me is not the greatest, and the place always smells like fried popcorn chicken. read more
