A warm, bright spot in an otherwise bleak part of Reno. My wife and I needed a break from a multi-day volleyball tournament and were thrilled to find a Cuban coffee spot down the street. Immediately loved the vibe; colorful, mural filled space with many seating options, a lunch counter and an outdoor patio area. Super chill, friendly staff serving an eclectic clientele. I'd give it five stars if they were a bit more on point with the Cuban end of things. My wife and I are Anglos, but we're both Miami natives, so we're kind of purists when it comes to our Cuban stuff. This was definitely more "Latin inspired." We were looking forward to traditional pastelitos, but found they had more Mexican sweets and a guava and cheese brioche, which was delicious, but not authentic. Our Cuban sandwich had no pork and the wrong bread (and came with tortilla chips?), but the sandwich itself was quite tasty. And our cafe cubano was a nice coffee, but a bit thin and had only the amount of sugar a sane person would add, which is about a third of what would be in the real deal. So if you want authentic Cuban, this isn't really it. But if you're looking for good coffee and food served by cool people in a warm, funky environment, this place rocks. read more

Giving 4 stars as I originally wanted to order the cafe con Platano half sweet, but I was told it was premade and could not make customizations. Beware: We showed up at 9:15Am, there was one couple ahead of us, we were a party of 4, we order 4 drinks and 2 bagels with a Cuban sandwich. We got our beverages about 25mins later, ok fine we get it she was alone and got more guest coming in after us, that were ordering food and drinks. Then it was 10am and no food still she just making drink after drink. we were wondering what happened to our food, the barista made the couple ahead of us food and served them in a timely matter. She was getting a lot of people and taking order after order doing drinks and not doing anymore food, I understand she was alone but she should complete full order la before taking on more orders and getting her self overwhelmed with drink and food orders, So she finally got some relief with another guy 15 mins in and still nothing so we just went up to the counter and asked for a refund for the food. No apologies no here take your drink on us sorry for the wait you know something a place with some type of hospitality would do but maybe cause it's a small business and they don't care about making sure the customer is taken care of regardless of the costs of the transaction. We wasted over a hour of our time we popped in wanted a coffee and a snack because we had plans and thought this would be a quick transaction. This Latin coffee shop in the heart of downtown Reno is a hidden gem and having its own parking lot is a huge plus! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting perfect for relaxing with a good drink. I tried three drinks: the Strawberry Horchata, which was creamy and refreshing; the Banana Bread Latte (hot with oat milk) which truly tasted like warm banana bread in a cup; and the Pumpkin Horchata Latte (cold with oat milk) smooth with a light pumpkin flavor. For dessert the chocolate cake slice was rich and satisfying and The Maria's bread which was banana bread topped with Cajeta was absolutely delicious. There was a bit of a wait for my order but it was totally worth it once everything arrived. Customer service was excellent. Just tried out this locally owned coffee shop down the street from work for the first time! Wow! First we were greated with a warm welcome and smiles. You could feel the eagerness to serve us from the second we walked in the door to having our order taken and coffees handed to us. Absolutely love this. They make some great Lattes. I ordered the Pablo which has pistachio and matcha in it. I was blown away with the combo. It had the perfect balance of pistachio and matcha with coffee. I have yet to find a place that can pull this off. I've always been a fan of matcha but most didn't offer it with a coffee base and when I added a shot of espresso to it, it just never did it justice. But this drink is exactly what I've been looking for. I felt like this recipe was made just for me lol. I love that it is locally owned. Such a cute little spot too. I love all of the wall murals they have inside and it had a cozy vibe that you can sit and enjoy your coffee. There were even people doing work on their computers while enjoying their coffee. I stopped in here last week and loved most of what I ordered. I got both the savory (elote style), and sweet (banana and caramel yumm!) toasts. Loved both of them. I also had an oat milk cortado which was excellent. There was a water dispenser and cups, which I needed with the sweet toast. Without getting into details, the team went above and beyond for me today and delivered genuinely world-class hospitality. The Cuban Sandwich although very tasty (and it did taste like a Cuban Sandwich), it was more of a Cuban Pannini when compared to the size of a real Cuban Sandwich. You'll know what I mean if you ever had a Cuban Sandwich before. Anyway, the place has a private parking area. It is cozy for reading, working on your laptop, studying or socializing with friends. When you search for Cuban food Cafe Con Papi does not show up so I didn't know it existed until I drove by yesterday. I had to stop and try it today. Inside small quaint cafe with great murals on the inside and out. A few casual seats around the cafe and bar. Great sweets and pastries to go with your coffee and a Cuban sandwich on the menu. We had the Cafe con Leche and the Cafe con Platona. Both were exceptional. If you like banana flavor the Platona is great. We also got a pastry which was very nice and fresh. I had to try the Cubano Sandwich and though I've had better, in South Florida, it was very good. Wish I knew where they got their bread from - love making sandwiches at home out of Cuban Bread. Supporting local coffee roasters and coffee shops is imperative, and you will always find something delicious and distinctive! As a suggestion from one of my colleagues, we went to Cafe Con Papi for a quick caffeine boost. She suggested I try the Cafe de Olla (which I got hot but she mentioned that cold is amazing too), and it was DELICIOUS! Great spices, well balanced, and it helped warm me up during the cold afternoon. Note that the Cafe de Olla is a labor of love and is brewed in a single batch, so the earlier you get it, the better! As another note, I came back a few days after and got the Cafe con Agave (iced) and I could recommend it enough, it's the best coffee I've had! Nestled nearby the old Bavarian world, this coffee shop is cute with great theming and wonderful seating areas. A big plus! I noted the pastries for sale, at a decent price too. We don't come to Reno very often, but this charming coffee shop is a must-visit for us whenever we're in town We typically order the Cafe con Platano - either iced or hot depending on the weather outside. The Maria's Toast seems to be a house special, which is toast topped with Cajeta, banana slices and walnuts. Wow, did this touch my taste buds with flavors of my childhood. This is a little bit off the beaten path for me. If you don't know where it is you might miss it. I came with some friends who knew about it and have wanted to go back every day since. The inside is nice but has limited seating and allows dogs. The service was great and I was greated everytime I walked in. They have an assortment of pastries and a few sandwiches. I feel like the couple times I've been the pastry selection changes which isn't bad for me because there is something new to try. The lattes are good but I found a little sweet. BUT their Cubano breve is the best I've had. It is really smooth and not to bitter. I tend to like a lot of cream in anything I drink and I didn't feel like it needed any. Returned back to this place for a coffee run! This is perfect for college students looking for a local coffee spot to support - it's super close to the UNR campus. There's a small parking lot behind the building as well as street parking. It's also awesome to see a Latin based coffee shop in the area; there's a lot of variety on the menu, it's hard to pick what to order! The space was an intimate area with limited seating. The coffee shop is pretty roomy with its own parking lot. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well. I visited Cafe Con Papi on a Saturday morning and was one of two people in the coffee shop. Cafe Con Papi has a cool interior and is a great place to get work done or meet up with a friend. The coffee, in my opinion, is just okay. I ordered two coffees and two quiches and my total was over $30, which feels too expensive for what I got. The quiches were delicious and warrant another trip to Cafe Con Papi on their own. The service was just okay. For being so close to a college campus, I would think that the coffee shop would be geared towards a college-aged crowd, but the prices don't seem to be for college students.
