We had a very poor experience due to the manager of Matins. Their hostess sat our party of 12 at a table reserved for someone else, by mistake. When the manager realized their error he asked us to leave since there was no place for us to sit. No apology. No regret after we all made our drink orders. He proceeded to cuss at two of the ladies in our party. He said "F you and F your family". How can a manager speak to customers like this? No doubt, Martin would be appalled. read more

The patio environment is very nice and we had a lot of servers as well as the owner checking up on us to make sure we were doing well. Loved the live music. I didn't like the ceviche compared to others that I have tried due to the fish being very tough. It seemed to not have been marinated very long and I couldn't taste any citrus. It had way too many red onions for the portion of fish. The Lomo Saltado was delicious. The flavor of the sauce was fantastic. read more

We started off with an empanada. The powder sugar on it is not for everyone but I like it. For my main course I had the beef sandwich with potato wedges. They were very good! Have been back several times since the last review. The updated patio is very nice and as always the food and service were great. Our waiter (Osvaldo) was engaging and friendly. Met a group of friends here for a birthday dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was cooler than usual outside and the restaurant inexplicably left all of the doors open and the ceiling fans on high. This was less than ideal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good. Our server was alright and kept everyone mostly refreshed with refills. The manager kept walking past the table leering at us without saying anything, it was strange. The food came out very quickly and our apps, salads and dinner entree's were pilling up on the table. The apps were ok. The temperature of some of the dishes was cooler than one would expect for something coming out of the fryer. The yuca fries had a long black hair wrapped around a few of the fries and was neither removed by the server nor was an adjustment made to the bill. The main courses were not executed well, at least not by someone that highlights their training from Le Cordon Bleu. The paella was under cooked, the sautéed redfish was soggy and the cilantro sauce was heavily salted. The dessert was the high point. The Tres Leche was very good. Overall a solid three stars. Still a lot of room for improvement. read more

Went here to celebrate a birthday dinner. The staff noticed we brought a cake and immediately asked if we wanted them to store it in the back for us. Which we loved because the birthday girl did not know we brought her a cake. The service was wonderful. I forgot a candle, and they noticed and happened to have a gold candle that matched the cake perfect. They came out with the candle lit and sang happy birthday. Replay used to like this place but is too pricey for what it is, nice locale and atmosphere but after ordering it in and then going to restaurant where no prices are on the menu and they removed the lomo saltado sandwich which was pretty much a staple. Great food with even better customer service. Such a treat to have culinary options in Tallahassee besides BBQ and southern fare. Didn't have any drinks but their cocktail menu looked amazing. Fantastic outdoor patio but make a reservation if you want to sit outside. However, they were nice enough to move us outside when a table opened up. We will be back! read more

I strongly recommend this place! I had the ceviche bravo and the pesto pasta (tallarines verdes with lomo saltado) and it was soooo delicious!! The pasta was some of the best pasta I've ever had. From what I'm told, this is a relatively new restaurant in the area. Naturally, I'd expect a few hiccups. First. The food and its presentation is 5 star. Lots of different flavors, good value for the portion and all dishes are beautifully plated. The Lomo Saltado de Carne / Beef was flavorful, colorful and served piping hot. Fries are really potato wedges and they were nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfectly seasoned. The Oriental salad didn't have a traditional Thai vinaigrette, but it was very good and most likely "Peruvian style". The salad was fresh, crisp and had enough variety to keep in interesting. The Asado Sandwich slightly edged out the chicken sandwich. Both came with wedges and a spicy sauce. The Causa de Langostinos Shrimp and Avocado salad was not the expected a ceviche type dish. It was more of a mayonnaise based shrimp salad. Good, just not was expected. The breakdown, was a young staff. Our waitress got our food order correct, but missed an ice tea that was ordered. (They did not charge for it). And she was invisible after the food was served. When we finally flagged her down we requested pepper for the table. She never brought it. And long after our beverages were empty, she finally came along asking if we'd like refills. By then, we were ready for the bill. Still, Cafe de Marin is an excellent new spot that should be tried to experience the fine food of this culture. Service will improve with a little seasoning. But out of the gate, this Cafe comes close to hitting a grand slam. read more

We really loved the food & service. The ambiance is good, especially the decor. Now for the bad. We were locked in! Yes you read that right. When we went to leave, the door to outside was locked. Of course all 4 of us tried it & probably looked like idiots. Finally someone pushed a button or something & the door opened. Later I wondered if people thought we were trying to skip out on the bill. It was embarrassing. Also if you want wine you have to buy the whole bottle. The FOOD. Good lord it was so tasty, everything was fresh and the portions are giant. Here is what our group got: - Tallarines Verdes: some of the best pesto I've ever had in my life, in love. - Aji de Gallina: so creamy and the combo of ingredients may sound very different but the flavors together are amazing. - Asado sandwich: very filling, big fresh steak. They have literally the best ceviche in town, hands down. I love their white fish, not so much a fan of their prices though. The outside seating needs a rework, as it's extra hot in the back with no fans running. The servers are nice when you're inside the restaurant, but iffy when you eat outside. read more

I was excited to go here for lunch. I ordered the Ceviche Mixto (raw) and my mom ordered the Chaufa. The prices at this restaurant are extremely high for unoppressive food. Additionally, the service was horrible! The waiter didn't even check on us once. I would never recommend this place to anyone and if I could give it zero stars I would. The only good thing this place has going for it is its clean and had a nice outside area to sit. read more

Went to try their new bar, which is right next door. While you can get food at the bar, and now get cocktails inside the restaurant, patrons have to go outside to move between the 2 spaces. They also added a number of additional outdoor tables in front of the bar. Sat at the bar and had the speciality of the house: a pisco sour. It was delicious. Also had an order of fried yucca with sauce Huacaina. It, too was fantastic. We then went next door for our dinner reservations. They were getting busy and service was a bit hectic. We ordered the vegetarian spring rolls , ceviche mixto and Jalea Marina (fried mixed fish with a creole sauce and pickled onions). The spring rolls were disappointing: kind of mushy inside and not much flavor. Both fish dishes were well cooked and very flavorful. The only negative with dinner was that they had a singer performing but the speaker was pretty loud. It was hard to talk. For dessert we took home a box of alfajores: flaky cookies with dulce de leche in between. Delicious. read more

I'd been excited to try this place, between the Yelp reviews and the feedback from friends, I expected this to be a slam dunk. Went on their website three days prior to arriving and clicked the reservation tab. I filled out the form and asked for a table for four for Saturday night. I never got a response, but went with friends anyhow (one couldn't make it). We were sat quickly and we were excited to begin. It started a bit slow as we waiting for service for close to 15 minutes. When the server came, we ordered drinks which came quickly. We then ordered fried yuca as a starter and was asked if we were ready to order our main meals, and we were. I ordered the Cilantro Lamb Stew (Seco de Cordero con Frijoles), my wife ordered the Lomo Saltado, and our friend ordered the Arroz Chaufa. The meals came out without the starter, so we cancelled it. My wife and friends meals were good, but while I found the portion of lamb to be generous, it was slightly warm and quite dry. We did come in 1.5 hours before they closed, and they were quite busy, so I'll return again to see if I can get one of those 5 star experiences everyone is posting about! read more

I love Cafe de Martin! It was first recommended by a Peruvian friend, and we met with a couple of other friends and my dog at the restaurant. I was very impressed with how welcoming they were for my dog outside. Marimar provided excellent service to our group of four friends, and we loved how friendly and helpful she was throughout our evening! We ordered the chicharrón de pescado, a couple of ceviches de la casa, and a ceviche, and the food was fresh, fabulous, and beautifully plated. Ceviche is a staple in Peru, and Cafe de Martin's ceviche was fantastic. Our entrees ranged in price from $16-20, so it seemed quite reasonable for what we enjoyed. We all got the delicious chicha morada (corn-based beverage) to drink as well, then after enjoying our evening outside in a lovely ambience and closing the place down, we went inside to get our desserts to go.
