Soooo I was excited about this place. I got tigers blood stuffed with ice cream and nephew got fruit punch stuffed. The place is very cute with a game system inside. It was served in a styrofoam cup and it was immediately started melting and was filled to the top very messy. Sooo the flavors were good but the ice cream was not sweet it was very strange. Not sweet ice cream. The syrup taste was good but the quality of ice was hard and idk not like a traditional New Orleans style snow ball I was expecting. The service was fast, the ice cream was good, and the people were nice. I really liked that you can really make any combination you would like. A fun take on snowballs or as I call them "snow-cones". Located on the perimeter of the lake Ella; this tasty treat is ideal on a hot day strolling around the park. There are multiple size cups available and an overwhelming number of flavors to choose from. You have the choice of traditional snowballs to decadent snowballs stuffed with ice-cream in the middle. You know I had to have decadence. The strawberry berry shortcake was de-li-cious! Although sweet, as expected, the ice-cream in the middle was a nice touch. A taste of New Orleans in Tallahassee! Growing up in Wisconsin, I only ever tried sno-cones and always felt a bit underwhelmed by the idea. This meant that when I moved to Tallahassee and saw a few snowball places scattered, I never gave them a second thought. Well, I'm glad I finally gave (real) snowballs a try and came to Big Easy Snowballs! These are nothing like the sno-cones of my childhood and have easily become my new favorite summer treat! You start with base of finely shaved ice, add in a scope of ice cream at the center, and drizzle on your favorite syrup flavors, including cream ones made with sweet and condensed milk for extra sweetness. I love the strawberry and blackberry with the ice cream center, but the more herbal flavors are probably my favorites now. Even the small I had was a bit large for me, though, so choose accordingly, but I've sure you'll love every bit! read more

"Are we there yet?" turned into "Snow cone, please!" on our Texas-to-Florida family road trip. Luckily, we stumbled upon a snow cone shack that was the highlight of our vacation. This wasn't your average snow cone stand, though. These were massive, fluffy snowballs made of perfectly shaved ice. I conquered the "White Wedding," a mountain of shaved ice, vanilla ice cream, sweet syrup, and a cloud of frosting like cover. My wife couldn't resist the "Key Lime," a tangy masterpiece that tasted like a frozen key lime pie. The portions were so generous, we shared and still had enough for a second round. For the price, it was very yummy and refreshing on this sunny, hot, summer-like day. My one complaint is how messy this thing was - and because this mess was entirely preventable by the business, it is why this review comes with just 3 stars. The poor presentation/delivery of this product itself practically ruined my experience. I can appreciate the fact that this establishment is adhering to social distancing guidelines, however, there was virtually nobody inside (other than workers), yet they advised me to wait outside and that they would hand deliver my treat. This didn't sound horrible except for the fact that they handed me the giant cup with just ONE napkin surrounding the cup. Did I mention that it was hot outside? So I had barely taken ten steps when I realized that the treat was profusely dripping a yellow colored sticky mess all over me. Picking up on the vibe that the staff/employees did not care about their patrons' needs, I felt no other choice but to hustle home so that I could clean up and enjoy the treat in comfort with more than a single napkin. I'm glad I got to check this place out before I relocate from Tallahassee, but I am not sure that I'd come back until this business is operating to the extent that customers are able to enjoy a pleasant experience. read more

You have to go to Lake Ella for a walk and a snowball aka snowcone. On the Monroe street side of Lake Ella in one of the super cute cottages, you will find this hidden gem. There are a variety of sweet treats but today I am going to share my experience with the snowballs. I cannot go to Lake Ella and not get one. Heck!!! The whole family gets one while we walk the dogs and enjoy the environment. I love to get the small raspberry as it is the perfect size for me. It is huge and well covered with the crazy good raspberry flavor. You order in the building and go outside to the pickup door. After a short wait, a taste of heaven is handed to you. Great little place that adds some flair to Tallahassee's otherwise boring culinary scene. The idea of a New Orleans snowball is sort of like a snow cone but not. Don't call it a snow cone, either. I used to work at a snow cone place and I thought we had a lot of flavors, but Big Easy Snowballs really kicks it up a notch. If you're overwhelmed or confused by the different types of snowballs and their flavors, just ask the people working there. They will gladly let you sample any flavor you want which I thought was really great since Big Easy offers so many different flavors. I got the sugar free red velvet cake but I tried the piña colada, tiger's blood (a snow cone classic) and green apple. All were really good. I felt in the mood for red velvet but the piña colada was a close runner up. The place was pretty busy when I went in and for a good reason. Big Easy is open with social distancing policies of only 5 customers in the shop at one time, which was comforting for me. I had never had a "stuffed" (soft serve ice cream intermingled with frozen flavored ice of your choosing) snowball before visiting Big Easy, and now I don't know if I can get anything else. Just a tip, if you are getting it stuffed, get the kiddie size because the servings are hearty and filling. I never knew there were so many options with frozen ice before visiting. You can get it stuffed and mixed with evaporated milk for a rich sugary experience or just get the traditional snowball if you like. They will let you try up to three flavors. I'd been given a recommendation to go to Big Easy and heard that it was a staple location of Tallahassee. So after I finished eating lunch one day, I decided it would be a good time to take a walk around Lake Ella and test out these fancy snowcone concoctions! As I mentioned, this place is located in one of the shops on Lake Ella. It's a small and simple store, but packs a lot of flavor. When I first walked in, the staff was busy making snowcones, but they stopped briefly to greet everyone and do their work too. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, which is nice to see for a change. They have an extensive list of things you can try. You can put flavors and toppings together or buy some pre-made recipes. I decided to go for the Smores. The sizes they boast are true to the depictions given on the wall. Very big, very very big. And the prices are great too. One person could get full off of one of these and pay less than $5 dollars. The flavor of the smores was very interesting. The design of the cone and height that it possessed was a bit mesmerizing at first. When I first dipped my spoon into the mountain of flowing flavors, it was like they erupted out and I had to eat it as fast as I could before I lost all of the sugary goodness. (Descriptive right?) Of course I wrapped my cup in napkins and took a walk around the lake enjoying my treat. Not quite impressed. I bookmarked the big easy snowball awhile back and finally got time to try it out today on a whim. I ran into a friend and dragged her here to get her a birthday snowball when I learned it was her birthday. We ordered two mango stuffed snowballs in kiddie size. I like how they show the cup sizes on the wall. Let me warn you even the kiddie size is no kiddie. I can't imagine ordering a large. We got our snowballs and later found out they were not stuffed. It was my first time trying a stuffed snowball so I was a bit disappointed. We walked all the way back to let the staff know about that. They had to check our order first then admitted that they made a mistake. Kinda annoying but hey no biggie. We finally got our stuffed snowballs, yay! I did like the stuffed ice cream part a lot and the snowball was refreshing on a hot summer day. However, the flavor tasted very artificial and a bit too sweet towards the bottom of the cup. This isn't your normal sno-cone shop. Located in the heart of the Lake Ella shopping district, the area around it is beautiful, and the shops are unique and special. Therefore, so is Big Easy Snowballs by association. This cute little shop is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. There isn't much seating inside, but that may be because they encourage you to sit outside at the tables by the lake. I didn't take a super long look at the offerings, but it was an extensive menu. My friend ordered a snow ball with ice cream inside (WHAT?) and it was amazing. The watermelon icy goodness and the creamy vanilla inside was a perfect combination. We ordered the small and we still couldn't finish it... yikes. But it was the best ending to a hot and humid Tallahassee day. read more

I grew up in the dry heat summers of California's Central Valley, where I would have snow cones (or shave ice as we call it, Hawaiian style) every Thursday night farmer's market. Now that I live here, I can literally get one every day... but I restrain myself. I am a tiger's blood purist, but the flavors at Big Easy is enough for you to come back every week for a year and you'll still have more to try. The prices are county-fair cheap, even for the large (I think $5+tax), and the staff are friendly and quick. They have kids movies playing on the tv in the back, most recently Encanto and The Lion King. I've seen people of all ages come in: babies, old people, teens, college students, and they all come walking out with colorful, delicious snow cones. The ice isn't too fine (unlike Italian ice) and they put just the right amount of syrup in so that the ice isn't drowning in it, yet all of it is seeped through with that sugary flavor. This is a must-go whenever I'm at lake Ella, which is like 2-3 times a week. Crunchy, cold, sweet! Everything you need for a stroll around the lake. Just don't litter. Catch me coming back here for the next 4-5 years and then crying when I have to move to do a post-doc. read more

I was SO excited to try this place and finally talked my husband in to stopping today. We ordered a Mounds and a Strawberry Shortcake, tipped. My medium came in a small souvenir cup cause I guess they are out of medium cups- whatever, it's cool. Took our treats outside and had a nice time people watching, threw our garbage away and went home. Imagine my surprise to get home, open up Facebook and see a photo of my car posted by this business that went on about "these people" and complaining where we had parked. We had no idea it was an issue- no sign at this building, no cones, we simply parked where the car had left from when we arrived. What I do know is that I spend way too much time working to have to deal with that on a weekend. After the business deleted my response (noncursing, reasonable) on their page it finally took reporting the post to Facebook to have it removed. Under new ownership and by far the best Snowballs in town. We have tried other places and while good, they don't compare to Big Easy. Quality syrup that doesn't leave a weird aftertaste in your mouth. Also, they have the biggest flavor list I have ever seen. The possibilities are endless. I tried the Wedding Cake Cream which was wedding cake syrup topped with sweetened condensed milk- not too much though- just enough to give it a great creamy flavor. My kids ordered the Pina Colada and loved it. The kiddie cup was the perfect size for all of us. Big Easy is doing a great job limiting the number of customers in the store and have organized a system of allowing 5 customers in at one time and then waiting outside for your snowballs or waiting for your turn to order. I love this somewhat "hidden gem" in Tallahassee and look forward to a summer of Big Easy Snowballs with my kids. read more

I think the idea sounds better than it actually is. A massive, sugary snow cone filled with vanilla soft serve is enough to satisfy your sweet tooth for the next month. I got the pink berry and it was decent, a little too sweet for my liking. My friend got the dragon'a blood and she enjoyed hers. The location is awesome for family's because it's right along Lake Ella and you get direct access to all the ducks you can see!!
