Awesome food at this small, cozy Peruvian restaurant tucked in the corner of Esposito Shopping Center and hidden behind Carabba's. Very unassuming place but big in flavor. The price is slightly on the high end but the ingredients are solid. The ceviche is a must try. I've been here several times and tried different dishes each time. You won't regret any of the ceviche. This recent visit which I remembered to take photo, we ordered Cilantro Lamb Stew and Chicharron de Pescado. The tartara sauce that came with the fried seafood was so good that I had to request for more and our friendly waiter was more than happy to oblige. The red onion was so mouth watering. Cute lovely spot on a generic strip mall. They've enlarged and improved the patio since my last visit. Great friendly and prompt service, however prices are a bit high for what it is. Ceviche was under whelming, fish sliced thin sushi size, not really bite sized, and usual accompaniments were scarce. For $25 not a best pick. Appetizers were all good, sampled three, and drinks also good. I've been to many Peruvian restaurants in my home town and this one can't stand up to any of them. But that's what we have here. The restaurant is very welcoming and cozy. The desserts welcome you right as you walk in and then are seated. The food is very good and definitely the best Peruvian food in Tallahassee. There are some of the classics like Lomo Saltado and Ceviche, which everyone must try. Price - I understand the external pressures on small businesses, including inflation and supply chain issues, however, in my personal opinion, this Peruvian food spot is overpriced. Coming from south Florida, there are countless Peruvian spots that are properly priced and equally delicious. Those places don't exist in Tallahassee and why I think it's priced this way. Not saying it's NOT worth it, just that it's not fully accessible to everyone how this dish originally is enjoyed. Clean, inviting space, with open kitchen, comfortable dining room and patio seating. The service was exceptional from the initial greeting through the settlement of the tab. The menu is packed with tempting options, but for my first lunch here, we split an order of the ceviche de la casa and a chicken sandwich. Every bite of both dish was expertly prepared, perfectly seasoned and delicious! We ordered the ceviche "medium spicy", which was spot on. We have been twice. The first time we went they were very busy. The service was slow, but that's understandable. The owner was there and working hard (talking to patrons, bussing tables, sweeping, etc.), and he was friendly/welcoming. We ordered the empanadas and Cilantro Lamb Stew. The empanadas were cold and not very flavorful. The stew was amazing! We wanted to give them another try. The second time we went, there were only two tables with customers inside and one or two outside. Three waiters walked around and no one helped us. We waited 10-15 mins. We finally gave up when some one new came in, and he was helped him immediately after being sat. If you're extremely patient and don't order empanadas, you'll probably get a nice meal. read more

After a few visits, I decided it was time to give Café de Martin some love. The first visit, I went with a friend and ex chef. I had the empanada to start and it was good. I just wish it had been served with some sauce. I also had Asado de res that had some very strong red onions in it. The dish was very well presented and very good. I chose to have it served with mashed potatoes which was a good choice. Since it was a cold day, I ordered a Mochaccino (which I had mistakenly read as something else). I was pleasantly surprised at the chocolate taste! My friend had the Aji de Gallina, which was Creamy shredded chicken, in a mild cream sauce. Served with rice and potato. He loved it. We also sampled the purple corn drink but I don't remember the name. Very sweet and tasty but one is enough to share. I returned again today and started with the mushroom soup. What a great idea! It was very flavorful with blended mushrooms, topped with croutons and micro greens. I think I sold three other people to order it because I was slurping so much! I thought about ordering another empanada but glad I didn't. For lunch's main course, had the Spaghetti Huancaina con Lomo Saltado served with Spaghetti noodles with Huancaina sauce. I had to google a recipe to see what to expect. The beef was tender and the noodles in the sauce were pure comfort food. The red onions were a bit aggressive though. If I had onions that strong, I would soak them for a few minutes to get that "sting" out. My service was good and I will return! read more

I would have loved to be able to review this restaurant based on the quality of the food and service but we weren't even able to eat there. We were visiting our daughter over the weekend and found this restaurant online, even though it was a little further out than other restaurants in the area, we decided to take the drive since they seemed to have good reviews and we love Peruvian cuisine. The closing time posted online shows 10pm on Saturday, we got there at 9:22pm and the doors were locked and closed signs were up. There was a server that looked over to the door but just turned their head when they saw us at the door. We didn't want to make a big deal and question why they were closed when it was half hour prior to closing time but although I understand having to serve half hour before closing os not ideal they should post the closing time half hour before they want to actually stop allowing customers inside the restaurant and not place the inconvenience on the customer. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I love going to this place everytime I'm in tally. The service is very nice and amiable. Went here around 7:30 and wasn't too busy. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant is very colorful and unique. Lots of little decorations that really pull the place together. They even have a garden seating area that is adorable and serene. The food was absolutely delicious. We got the appetizer Causa De Langostinos, personally it wasn't my type of taste but my family loved it. For dinner I got the Pasta Huancaina with Con Lomo Saltado which was absolutely amazing. For dessert we got the normal tres leches, it was a bit dry but overall yummy. My wife and I were in town this afternoon and decided we should get some lunch. We were going to Carraba's when I remembered Cafe de Martin was right behind Carraba's. I commented we should try it as I'd seen some nice posts about it over the last year or so. It was almost 3 pm when we walked in and were shown to a table. there were no other guests in the dining room. We were presented menus and iced water. Our server came back shortly and asked if we were ready to order. my wife inquired about a lamb dish or a chicken stir fry. She was steered toward the chicken dish. i ordered the Asado Sandwich but the server said it was a lunch item not available past 3pm because the bread is baked daily. It was 3:04 pm and on the lunch specials menu we received when seated. I didn't argue, but felt it not customer friendly. No other patrons in the place - she could have said, let me go check with the kitchen and see what we can do. I perused the menu, so much was accompanied by rice and potatoes which is not good for us diabetic people. I saw crunchy shrimp appetizer and asked of they were good and popular - oh yes sir, very good. I ordered those and an Campesino Salad - chicken salad with vegetables topped with a creamy vinaigrette. Our server gave me the thumbs up sign for that item too. We watched as the two line cooks in view were busy preparing mise en place or our orders. My wife's stir fry arrived, it was piping hot. She took a bite, commenting it had good flavor but the chicken was a little chewy. A few minutes later another server delivered my crispy shrimp appetizer. There were 6 or seven frozen panko cruses small shrimp, a smidgeon of spring greens, a little ramekin of dipping sauce and some under cooked krinkle cut fries. The shrimps were 50% breading and probably were at best, 36-40 count sized. I ate them as I was starving, they were disappointingly tasteless and small - not what I'd expect from a Cordon Bleu trained chef. We Sat awhile wondering when my salad was coming. It never did. When the server asked if she could take our plates, I said yes, and I never received my entree salad. She apologized and said she was very sorry. Another server brought the bill which I paid the $40 and left an 18% gratuity - way more than actually earned. Won't waste my money here again. Not sure what all the hype was about but I didn't feel the magic at Martin's. Your response that you're small and locally owned means nothing in this case. Authentic frozen shrimp? No entree salad delivered. Server never followed up. Raise your standards! read more

This Peruvian restaurant is an amazing gem in the heart of Tallahassee! We've been here before, and have never had a bad meal. Today was my son's birthday, and he really wanted to go here for his favorite dish. Looking on the website, he saw that the dish wasn't on the menu anymore, so I contacted the owner asking if they were going to bring the dish back. The owner texted me back letting me know that they would make an exception for my son's birthday, which was totally unexpected. Tonight, they not only made him his favorite dish, they also surprised him with a piece of cake! Everyone from the owner, the manager, the kitchen staff, and the wait staff, went above and beyond to make this evening so special for my son. Their dinner menu is not my favorite, mostly because of the price and I feel like the quality is lacking. I really enjoyed their drinks and the ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy. I have been here quite a few times and the service isn't the most amazing. I understand that people can have good and bad days but I have been abandoned many times while dining here but they have always made it up to me by giving a free dessert. From the second I walked in I knew I was going to love virtually everything and I wasn't disappointed! Two of us ordered the Aji De Gallina which is shredded chicken in a creamy sauce with potatoes nestled in the bottom. Topped with walnuts, the flavor was simply delicious and altho I couldn't tell you the spices, they were perfectly balanced. For a starter I had their homemade mushroom soup. It was top notch, lots of puréed mushrooms in a cream sauce with cheese in there some where and topped with croutons. Highly recommend! A friend ordered their Cilantro Lamb Stew, it was perfectly cooked and a also pretty dish. Another friend ordered the fried seafood that had squid, octopus, shrimp etc. and not a bite was left. Small touches like banana chips resting underneath the seafood are what makes this restaurant interesting. The rustic atmosphere was offset by lots of string lights and colorful accents. Service was top-notch, we really enjoyed ourselves and will be back many times!! Our servers gathered for a photo, if they're not family, they are like a family and they certainly made our experience wonderful :-). For drinks we had margaritas, pisco sours, the bird, ceviche and the vegetable spring rolls for apps, and many entrees.
