When people outside the USA imagine an American restaurant, they should imagine something like Caffe de Olla. Established in a repurposed fast-food building, Caffe de Olla is undeniably a restaurant where people sit in chairs and are served food. The plants are fake; the waiters are all courteous, rushed, and hispanic; each glass of water is served with a lemon slice; overhead speakers play quiet music and loud advertisements. The menu makes a good attempt at offering as many dishes as possible with the as few unique ingredients as possible. It is a forced trifecta of american-italian, american-mexican, and american-american cuisines. Only a few narrow beams of culinary light break through the lowest-common-denominator haze. I ordered the {I can't remember the name}, which was a sort of tex-mex stir-fry of meat, zucchini, mushrooms, and, of course, nacho cheese. It wasn't delicious, but it was slightly daring. read more

Totally shocked to see an Italian restaurant take over the former Bojangles in Robbinsville! Extreme western North Carolina is known for it's natural beauty, curvy roads, and wildlife. Tennessee and Georgia are just a few miles away too. We decided to visit for dinner with car club friends and family in tow. Nice renovation, solid menu, and friendly staff. Portions were huge and fed my kiddo for a few days. The chicken, mushroom, onion, and ricotta calzone was lovely. Mom's lasagna met her approval as well as multiple friends ordering the Greek Salad. GF had the Chef's Salad also with equally tasty results. For Yelp purposes I nibbled a few bites of the calzone as I'm not a regular dinner diner. The restaurant is also working on it's permits to serve alcohol; something new to this area. Last year beer, wine, and liquor were not available in this town. We just stopped in for coffee at 4 PM and they were very gracious to brew us a pot of coffee and provide us what we needed. Can't say anything about the food because we didn't have any. But the staff was very helpful and friendly. read more

Anyone that gave this place anything but a 1 star review are absolutely clueless when it comes to Italian food, or food in general. Nobody cooking in this place has ever seen a garlic bulb, any basil, or other Italian spices. Folks leaving 4 or 5 stars for this place have only eaten spaghetti Os or chefboyardee junk out of the can their while life and obviously think The Olive Garden has the best Italian food in the world. White Pie with unripe raw tomatoes, spaghetti and bland frozen meatballs are not what we expected. I should have thought something strange when we walked in the old Bojangles building, with all the same tables, chairs, and carpet. The second red flag was the menu of Mexican and Italian cuisine. I'm sure the folks that run this place are nice folks, and perhaps they know how to cook Mexican food. They have no clue about Italian food. read more

This was such a nice surprise to find open on a Sunday evening. I was about to start driving home back to Charleston SC and needed to find somewhere to eat first. We've been motorcycling by this place for months and decided to take a chance and give it a try. It says Italian but it's also got Mexican food. The lunch menu had a lot to chose from. We went with Mexican and were quite surprised by the both the meal and the price. Excellent value and way more than I normally eat for lunch. read more

Given the options available in the area, this place is an absolute savior. If you've ever been to a northeastern Italian diner, the menu and food are going to be effectively the same. Should you expect the best Italian food you've ever had? No, but again, this place is successful in serving good hot Italian food in a mountain town where the few fast food chains around are effectively what you have to eat beyond hitting up Ingles. Partner had spaghetti with clams, which was very very good, and I had the chicken parm, which I enjoyed well enough. Our server was very nice and made sure we were well taken care of. Such incredibly good food. Nothing I've ever had here has let me down & that's saying something! I realize that while it may not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, you may count it out, but that's a mistake. Give it a chance, especially if you like Italian cuisine. I do, I'm hard to please & have a LONG track record in my past of Italian chefs and this place is right up there with those guys. Apart from being able to gather the same meats & cheeses they do in New York, this spot is REALLY GREAT!!! Heard so much about Cafe De Olla that moved across the street to their new location. It's fabulous, we're from Atlanta area and their pizza rivals all those well known big city pizza parlors. The dough is thicker, but very light with great sauce and the toppings were all flavorful. Caleb was our server and he was friendly, courteous and attentive, but all the servers there were hustling to tables catrering to their customer's every whim. The salad was fresh made, not one that sat in the cooler. All the dishes that passed by our tablhe looked delicious and guaranteed no one went home hungry. "To go" boxes all around due to the generous helpings at very reasonable prices. This chef truly knows what he's doing!
