Benn going here since it opened. In the beginning I loved this restaurant, however in the last year have become very disappointed...new management? I meet friends here for lunch and have had numerous issues. This last time...portions were big but beans were watery, rice luke warm, chips stale and tortillas barely warm Our server got our ticket wrong charging for full order when the lunch special was ordered, this was fixed after some convincing. The bathroom was not clean and no paper in one stall. We have decided to go somewhere else. Hopefully management will take note and act upon the many concerns. read more

Used to be one of the best in Mesquite but they have gone to pre made food that's microwaved within an inch of its life. Disappointing.

Worst first experience. Went on Margarita Day and was quoted an hour wait which actually was a two hour wait since they seated smaller parties first. (I had a party of six) I was very disappointed and expressed how much time was waisted and how I could've been at On The Border across the street. After that, we were seated. The margarita was overpriced at 2.99. Should've been 0.01. I have never in life left an alcoholic beverage filled to the top of the glass. Then to top it off the food was horrible. This was our first time to here and we will never be back. I decided to order one of the favorites. What could go wrong. I asked if there were onions in the cheese enchiladas and was told yes. I love onions in my enchiladas. Not only was there no onion, but the enchilada was so thin I didn't even think there was cheese in it. The service was awesome but the food had no flavor to it. We started out with chips and queso, the chips tasted stale and the queso was low quality cheese with uncooked jalapeños and cayenne pepper on top. The "top shelf margaritas" were by no means top shelf quality. The beans were burnt. The enchiladas we decent but not very flavorful. The flour tortillas are made in house and we're very good. I give it a 5 star only bc of the bartenders there!!!! I'll be honest, only eaten there once but the bar staff, especially Meagen, was amazing!!! Food was pretty good too!!!! Kudos to the jalapeño ranch!!! Meagen is a badass at swirl drinks and her costumes on theme nights are on point! She works hard, and keeps her customers happy!!! Great smile and personality!!! I am all about great customer service and these folks have it. I know I know I know its really prissy and picky to want specific small things. This day I wanted to sit outside on a patio and have a margarita with my mother. The spot down the street and a few other places I called said they had a patio but weren't using it at the moment. Anyway, came here and said we wanted to go to a patio and would get a starter here and go somewhere else. I did not have to leave because they opened the garage style windows so that the patio could be a patio! The service was great! Diocelina, Chris and the manager all gave great customer service without being all up in our grill but checking on us at a good pace. The food is good. The drink specials are cool too. read more

The food was pretty good. I like that they bring 3 kinds of salsas for your chips. The decor is good. The food could have used a little more to it, but, overall a good experience. The service, however, was flawed, my drink refilled 1 time in a 1.5 hour period. Also, when the check came, it was about $33.12, for 3 people, we asked for the change back, and she brought us nothing. The waitress basically stole money. I got the three enchiladas as usual one chicken, beef, cheese it was terrible they must have change chef. They use to be so good service good but the food was cold and awful. This is the best Mexican Restaurant in Mesquite. The poor reviews are complainers that want something not normally served in Mexican Restaurant. The food is great the service is great and the price is competitive. Highly recommend for Lunch or dinner. However they do have lunch specials. Stopped there for dinner...was driving by, saw it, and had to try it out - always excited by a new Tex-Mex place to check out. Salsas were good and fresh (2 choices) and their habanero ranch dip was very good. I've visited here four times within the past few months. I always order the ground beef tacos with the Spanish rice. The portions are so huge. You get a lot for the price. There's always extra to take home. The staff is always welcoming and I love the music they play there. My husband and I speak to the owner each time we go. He's such a great guy, always smiling. The last time we visited was less than a week ago. I had the tacos and my husband had a steak quesadilla. The food was perfectly seasoned as usual and this time I decided to order dessert. I had the tres leches cake. Oh my gosh! They give you such a HUGE piece for a very good price! It was so, so delicious. Literally the BEST tres leches cake I've ever had in my life! The best! Oh and their margaritas are scrumptious and they have this spicy ranch dip for your tortilla chips. 10 out of 10 on that one! We take a bowl home with us every time. It's that good!!!! We were going to be at the AMC nearby the restaurant, so we decided to try this place out. I drive by it at night on my way home from work. Boy am I glad we tried It. Started off with an appetizer called Flameado. You can get this with taco meat but strongly suggest to upgrade to beef. This also will sate the cheese lover. Large portioned was appreciated, as it was shared. My brother in law and my son decided on the chimichanga. Looked awesome. I took a different path for my taste buds, choosing the Flameado. It is a breaded meat, cheese filled pepper. For my side I elected for the vegetables. Mixed squash, zucchini etc. I was not disappointed. Very well cooked and spiced. Vegetables were very fresh. Almost forgot chips and salsa were also on par with meal. Definitely will be going back. Not to forget our waiter Jonathan, as he did an awesome job and a pleasure meeting. Cafe Del Rio is a great place for mexican food. The food is very tasty. My wife is from Mexico and she loves this place. They give you alot of food. My wife and I ordered the large combo beef and chicken fajitas FOR ONE and there was plenty for both of us and enough leftover for my wife's lunch the next day. We were sooo disappointed with the service today. It's usually pretty top notch. Food was cold when it came out, my son's food was wrong, and the tortillas were cold like they had been sitting there for awhile. We have eaten here at least 4 times, and each time the service and food was great. we have taken out once for work and the food was great also. the chips are wonderful they are thin and easy to eat for people who have problem eating chips. I came in with family on a Friday at 10:30 unaware of the 11:00 P.M. closing time. Upon arriving we received complimentary chips and two different kind of dips. About fifteen minutes later we got our food and drinks. When we finished our drinks we asked for a refill on our margaritas, they denied us the refills because they already did there last call for drinks. Dude....you have no clue....I predict you will be out of business in 6 months...There is NOTHING that differentiates you....YOUR FOOD IS BORING AND YOUR DRAFT BEER SELECTION IS THE PREDICTABLE COORS, SHINER, BUD LIGHT and NEGRO MODELO...you are boring...predictable...and lack any originality. Food was mediocre at best. Fish and seafood aren't worth a try since they are a frozen white fish that lacks taste and small shrimp over cooked wrapped with bacon and a greasy side dipping sauce. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday the other night. First I ordered a Mudslide. It taste more like a chocolate Sundae, but hey I like Sundae's so OK, I'm alright with that. Then we ordered. It's just okay. Prices are cheap and food is not spectacular. Best part for me was the madori margarita it was very refreshing. I paid with 100 bill and the manger came over and said ms we can't accept this it is not real. I said what i assure you it is I received it from my bank. He then said it passed the paper test but doesn't have the strip inside that's why it's fake. Piece of advise to him unless your 100% sure it's very rude to tell someone there money is fake seriously. I just pulled out another and he was happy. Anyways he was some young guy I hope he was born before 1981 however maybe not. My bill was from 1981 too a young person I guess they look fake however to an older person the new ones look fake. Anyways I went to my bank the following day and told them what happen they said he's crazy it's common practice for any type of management to know these things about money. They then told me no bill made before 1990 or 1993 can't remember anyway none before that time have security thread inside. She then asked if I wanted to keep it or trade it for a new one I said I will trade it. Then that night I came home and started investigating money from 1981. This is the same food style as jalapeño tree was before. Who in their right mind calls habanero ranch a salsa for dipping chips into. The ranch was good just strange to have with chips. The chips were old also. It wasn't even spicy, so if you you like things on the mild side go for it it won't bother you. Rice had no flavor to it. My chili relleno was nearly a cooked pepper closer to raw, and had all the crust falling off. The crust was almost like a chicken fried steak batter but crispier. I always thought that those peppers had an egg batter on them that was slightly fluffy and fried. When anything says a chili sauce on it they really mean is that they put a sauce that's very close in flavor to wolf brand chili with no beans. Everything had beef in it which was on the dry side and is spicy. I'm guessing I was just hoping more of the real Mexican style food than American version of it. I won't be going back. read more

We decided on a whim to try a new place to eat. The food was mediocre-some things were good, other entrees were not. The biggest problem we had was with the staff. My daughter left her stuffed animal on the table and when my husband returned 30 minutes later to retrieve it, he got the run around. Everyone acknowledged that they had seen the stuffed animal but could not seem to locate it. The hostess tried to get my husband to leave stating that they would call us in a few days if they found it. Really? He insisted on staying as the restaurant was not busy. Finally, 45 minutes later, the manager on duty brought the animal out and it was torn to pieces!!! He could not explain what happened and tried to suggest that since they found it in a trash can, perhaps a beer bottle did it. Really! My daughter was so upset. Fortunately, I was able to sew it back together but the point is, is that the staff, whoever it was, was intentionally malicious and the other staff tried to cover it up. May I suggest that you go across the street to On the Border to eat if you want Mexican food. read more
