BREAKFAST I have been here quite a few times before, but this was my first breakfast experience. This was also one of my first ever experiences with crepes. Overall, I was quite happy. I highly suggest doing what we did and order one breakfast crepe, one sweet crepe, and one savory crepe, and then split all three items with another person. Breakfast crepes are sold until noon and it appears they open at 8:30 am daily. We had to get the breakfast burrito, and it was tasty with the potatoes and curry inside. It also had eggs and cheddar cheese for $11.50. For $7.95, we tried the strawberries and cream for our sweet crepe and it was probably my favorite of the three. Our savory choice, for $11.95, was the chicken, avocado, mozzarella, tomato, and Caesar dressing. I also drank a bloody mary and smoothie (strawberry, blueberry, banana for $5.95) and both were above average. I highly recommend trying one of their smoothies. I know some reviews give this place a bad wrap regarding their customer service. I have personally never had a bad experience here. Sometimes the service can be a little slow in comparison to the mainland, but average to above average speed as far as Maui time goes. I prefer their covered outdoor seating. No kama'aina discounts offered. Next time, I plan to try the Cinnamon and cream, bananas and chocolate, Italian lentil and tomato stew, pesto, and mozzarella, and maybe the ham, eggs, gruyere cheese, and tomato. EDIT: My friend paid his tip in cash while I tipped via credit card. Today, my friend informed me that they charged his card the tip instead of mine. He called to have them correct the error. This is probably an isolated incident and I did not lower my rating due to this mistake, but just something to keep an eye out for if you are splitting checks. UPDATE 9/1/16 - My friend informed me that the $7 tip was still not taken off of his credit card. This is just not OK. When he called, he was reassured it would be taken care of. This is terrible business. I love this place but charging the tip on the wrong card and then NOT fixing it when someone called and you told them it would be taken care of??? Come on! I work in the industry and this is unacceptable. When in the Paia area, I will likely go elsewhere due to this issue. I will keep my rating at four stars in case this is an isolated issue, but will hesitate before risking future credit card issues at this place again. read more

My favorite spot to meet up with friends for a glass of wine or a meal. The ambiance is perfect. The food never disappoints.

I still love Cafe Des Amis after all these years. You can find me in there this month with an Italian Lentil crepe, a side of their spicy habanero chutney, and a double shot cappuccino. Last month it was the Spinach and Feta crepe I was after, the the previous month, the Ham and Gruyere. These are my favorites, and go-to's on the menu, although I have been known, from time to time, to enjoy the chicken curry, or Mediterranean platter (to share.) Service is mostly good. Another one of those places where everyone wears sandals (a seemingly hazard to me) and some appear to be overly concerned about their socializing, but honestly, mostly good. read more

We came here as a part of a large group and it was fantastic! I had the vegetarian platter and cleaned my plate. They have a great selection of smoothies and other people at our table tried the fish and the curries and all got rave reviews. The patio area was very nice, it's always great to sit outdoors when you're on Maui. We had a member of the party who was having a birthday and the staff was very accommodating when it came to assisting with the cake. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in paia town... the menu offers a nice variety of cuisines from crepes to curries as well as options for those looking for animal proteins, gluten-free, or vegan/vegetarian friendly dishes. All in all, I think they really do a great job of offering a little something for everyone without having a menu that's too overwhelming. Really good. Fun, memorable food at decent prices. The menu is interesting. It features a fusion of Mediterranean, Indian & French influences. At first I was skeptical, but this fusion really works. I tried 4 dishes during 2 visits & all were very satisfying. The mahi mahi Indian curry was legit. Spicy but not overwhelming - complimenting the very fresh mahi mahi (perfectly filleted). The 'wraps' are created with a french crepe type shell, which contrasted the curried filling. A great combination. There's outdoor dining in a kind of make shift courtyard between two buildings. The general vibe of this place is not overly polished or finished. In fact it's kind of thrown together & no frills. I think it works. It feels relaxed...like you should feel in Hawaii. Unfortunately, my wife and I separately saw both a mouse and a cockroach scurrying along the floor while we ate - we told our server, and she was surprisingly nonchalant about it. Back in Maui again. Our trips here always include at least one lunch at Cafe Des Amis. Although the crepes being delivered to nearby tables are very tempting, our favorite thing is the shrimp curry with mango chutney. Delicious, every time. If you like crepes, you have to eat here! Crepes are served with a side of salad with pesto dressing and a dollop of creamy cheesy crime fraiche. My husband and I ordered the Mediterranean veggies with feta and pesto and the chicken mozzarella tomato avocado crepe. Both were made to perfection. We also heard other patrons who are regulars mention that their curry based dishes were also amazing. We both thoroughly wish we had a restaurant like this at home. Had the chicken curry. I really don't know what's so great about this place. The chicken was tender, but the sauce was too tomato-ey. Maybe it's bc I like my curry to be more cream-based. It doesn't come with naan bread, like you'd expect. Instead, you get pita bread, but you have to ask for it and it's not complimentary. Also had Strawberries and cream crepes for dessert. It was way too tart, sweet and too large as a dessert. Thank goodness I shared it. Overall, probably won't visit this place again. Favorite place to eat in Paia. I love love love the chicken avocado savory crepe. The sweet crepes are all delicious and very affordable.Seriously I've had every single one. My boyfriend is a meat and rice kind of guy but he really liked the ham and cheese crepe. I go for take out sometimes when I need a fix but don't have someone to sit with. The only bad thing is that there is no parking in Paia. So be prepared to circle around or walk a little. Either way it's worth it!! The samplers are perfect for sharing. Cafe Des Amis caught our eye immediately. What a perfect place to go for breakfast on your way to Hana in the town of Paia. It's a cute little cafe with the word "crepes" on the outside - who wouldn't want to stop. The menu was written colorfully on chalkboards mounted above the cash register, with displays of fruit and available drinks. Even though we'd already technically eaten, the food looked and smelled so good, that we got something to share. The cashier was perhaps South African, and helped us order. We decided on a savory crepe - ham, greuyere, basil and tomato. It was served with a side salad and sour cream (? didn't eat that part). I don't know what yummy goodness they added to give it a much more complex flavor, but whatever it was, I could have eaten another! They gave each table a unique shaped and colored bottle of water, which gave it an added touch of funkiness. We debated driving all the way back from Kaanapali to get more food later. This is the third visit to Cafe de Ami.Of course covid19 made this take out only for us but others were eating inside.Their inside is a covered patio.Tables were separated well but no one wore masks during their time inside We have learned to keep masks on,take small bites under the mask but oh well. THE FOOD IS MORE Indian with wonderful fragrant spices,lots of vegetarian options.Their medditeran dishes are also tasty.I particularly enjoyed the butternut squash wrap with small art of greenbean but too much rice.For those of us watching carbs the rice should be a choice to leave out. Curry dishes are pretty darn yummy. It irks me that their prices have continually crept up. When we started going there the chicken curry was around $8.95....yes that was quite a while ago. But what hasn't changed is the flavor; still yummy. The curry is more of a British curry and not hot and spicy, although you can get a side of habanero chutney or a milder mango chutney. The fish and shrimp curries are also outstanding, but my go-to is mostly chicken. They make an outstanding Greek Salad that is large enough to share. Im glad I came here again. A must stop for sure, but not necessarily a 'dine in' kinda place. The place is cute and I like that a major part of the restaurant is outside. The venue itself is cool but the vibes are weird. I couldn't tell if the waitresses had drank too much salt water while surfing or maybe the Maui high isn't as strong as it used to be. The girls were getting the job done, but NO ONE smiled. They all seemed a tad bit miserable. It kinda makes the food not taste as good, if that make any sense. After a day of exploring the mountain side I came in by the recommendation of a friend that lives on the island. In full disclosure I am not a crepe eater but I saw that they had wraps and curry on the menu so I agreed. The location is right on the main road and great for people watching. The waitress quickly came over with waters and menus which was good because I was on the verge of becoming "hangry". We ordered a half order of the humas plate and some Mai tai's from the happy hour menu. The appetizers arrived quickly along with our drinks. For the main meal I ordered the beef mushroom curry wrap based on the flavorful aroma in the air, my friend ordered the bacon Brie Apple wrap. The portion sizes where good, she said here's was good, I was slightly disappointed in mine expecting it to be as flavorful as Indian food should be but it did the job as I was super hungry and the cucumber sauce on the side helped to add more flavor. I give 4 stars because it was a pleasant experience and the was good just not as good as I know Indian food to be... They had an outdoor eating court yard that looked lovely so if you are in the area it's worth checking out but maybe stick to the sweet crepes full of crepe stuff lol.
