I really like DesAmis I am amazing with my gluten allergies (Celiac) that I can eat there, they have a really good Mediterranean plate and buckwheat crepes YUM!, its a very laid back atmosphere, could use a real floor though, I would never take an elderly person there for fear of them falling on the gravel. Wowza! The flavors here are poppin. Such a groovy funky little restaurant. Sitting on the patio is super relaxing. It's like a little beach shack in here. Love, love, love this place. This is a cute cafe set in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Paia. It is such a change from the average restaurants you go to. A great meeting place to spend time with friends lingering over a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a yummy crêpe , great for lunch or romantic setting for dinner. In my eyes, quality food and place to eat in Paia. The food is fresh, clean and made to order. Seems simple, but restaurants don't operate like that anymore. I have read that the staff is a bit snarky in other reviews. I can attest to that in a way. Seems most of the staff has come down with RBF (Resting Bitch Face Syndrome for those of you that didn't attend Med School). Kameron helped us, and she was real cool, nice and didn't suffer from RBF. Overall, great place to eat. I can empathize with the claims that the staff is a bit high maka maka. Some truth to that. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here including a Mediterranean style shared platter and the most delicious Sangria... The atmosphere was bohemian and comfortable with a refined twist. Seating was available inside; but we were pleased to dine al fresco amid a real mix of a crowd (returning beach goers and surfers, couples, families with children). Cafe des Amis has great food but what's up with the avocado shortage? Whenever my friends and I have tried to order something with avocado they are always out of it, time after time after time. This island is full of avocados and the best health food store is right across the street. This has been happening for far too long now. Wow. Horrible food poisoning from this place and I'm not the first one to experience it. I just had the veggie curry but something seemed off when I ate it. So I had the rest to go. And within 4 hrs I felt fluish and two days later, I'm still dealing with it. I'd stick to the coffee and maybe a dessert crepe but don't get their savory hot foods. Used to like this place too. We loved this place, probably went there 4 times. Sincere attentive service. Good food - we usually had crepes, didn't try any curries, but did have a side of potatoes & loved them. I'm a super coffee snob, and enjoyed the iced coffee (didn't venture into the espresso) my husband (less snobby but still discerning) enjoyed the mochas. Three words. GET THE CREPES. Man they were good! I got the chicken curry and it was just okay. Kinda bland actually. My wife liked it though. I devoured her ham and cheese crepe and it was fantastic, as was the strawberry crepe we had for dessert. Nice outdoor courtyard with umbrellas so you don't get cooked by the sun. We love this quaint little cafe. They make a full bodied Americano that equals any I've had in Europe. Love the chicken and avacado crepe plus the baby kale was a welcome addition to the organic salad. My husband had the Bombay breakfast burrito which will certainly guarantee our return to this cafe next trip to Maui. I love Cafe Des Amis. Its not easy to find reasonably priced restaurants on Maui unless they are of the "fast food" variety. Cafe Des Amis is local, one-of-a-kind business that specializes in crepes and curries, and they excel in both. For $10-12, you can get a delicious lunch or dinner crepe with a salad, and feel completely satisfied. And their dessert crepes are "to die for". Curries are only served during the dinner hour. The portions are good enough that I often take home leftovers for lunch the next day. They average $14-17 and are served in a large bowl over rice. Cafe Des Amis is nicely situated across the street from Mana Foods, the best health food store on Maui. Visit both! read more

the Mediterranean platter is amazing! I get it every time I go there. The servers are super friendly, but sometimes service can be a little slow due to being so busy. The food is great, and the atmosphere is laid back, clean, and comfortable. They have good musicians on a regular basis, and the happy hour special on drinks is good! Came in for an early dinner around 5.30pm. Lovely space outside, relaxed vibe, and attentive servers. We ordered the veggie curry and the lentil crepe (after asking for recommendations). The crepe especially was tasty and well presented. Happy hour was on so we could also avail of half-price drinks. Good all round for food and service. it's a lovely setting... probably why people still go, it's the only ''pretty'' spot in Paia. However, the food is another story. They MICROWAVE all the dishes, they take a tupperware of whatever you've ordered and pop it into the microwave and voilà! First: I never eat microwaved food, second: I most certainly do not go to a restaurant and pay $20 for a microwaved tupperware meal . Interestingly enough most of the people who eat there are completely unaware that they are eating microwaved food. Their crepes are ok. nothing to write home about. Oh and sacrilege of all sacrileges: the feta they serve is cow feta... which basically is not real feta. I know it's cheaper but common... cow feta?? read more

Food here is quite good, but it's also good in lots of other places in Pa'ia and around Maui. What sets Cafe Des Amis apart is the terrible, terrible service. Plan on waiting 15 minutes before you're acknowledged by the bored waitstaff if you want a glass of water, then another 20 minutes before they'll ask if you're ready to order. Food comes out at a decent clip, but bring your running shoes so you can chase your waitstaff down for the check. A quick bite at a cafe becomes a 90-minute ordeal every time. Once I finish off this gift card I was given, they'll see my business no more. (Cafe Mambo next door is much better!) read more

We went at 8.15, just before the restaurant closes. Food was good but the service was not up to the mark. They were hesitant to re-set the table inside, then they messed up the order and got us wraps instead of the curries (and then refused to change them since their kitchen was out of rice). We went to this restaurant on a Monday for dinner, it was pretty crowded. It is a cute place, we sat in the outside area. I had a lilikoi margarita and chicken curry. The margarita was okay-ish. I have definitely had better. The chicken curry was flavorful but not the best. My husband really wanted to try their crepes and we ordered one but it never made it to the table. We eventually had to cancel the order and ask for the check. I had read really good reviews for the place, hence checked it out. I was definitely disappointed. read more
